I met this author at the Romance Writers Association Conference in SF in July. I went with my mom in order to see Nora Roberts and have her autograph a book. After meeting Nora, we walked around and looked specifically at the Black writers that were present (there were less than a dozen). I chose this author's book, which she signed.
The romance was nice, although I found the story format disconcerting. I cannot think of any other book I have read in my life that did not involve some sort of conflict for the protagonist to overcome by the end. Even children's books(!) follow this rationale (no offense meant to the author). I found it slightly irritating to keep reading on and on about how happy and in love the characters were, with no real conflict to test their love - this is usually REQUIRED for any romance, let alone a good one. The characters were also under-developed so it was hard to truly care about their situation, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. I'm not sure I'll be reading any others by this author, though. Was I too harsh?
"The Sweetest Temptation" is the second installment in the "Whitfield Bride Series" and it's just an OKAY read. I enjoyed the attraction between Ethan and Faith, but it's a very slow-paced romance. It's so sluggish at times I was TEMPTED to skip ahead, in the hopes of finding some FIRE and HEAT. Once again, I enjoyed the camaraderie of the sisters during their social gatherings. However, this story is inundated with "insignificant" details regarding the cakes, the décor, the clothing, the buildings and the cars, albeit vivid and well written descriptions, IMO it's just too much; which often causes the storyline to have "dull patches". I have one more installment to read in this series, and I sure HOPE it's more EXCITING!
I really tried to like this book. I tried to finish it but I couldn't. It's about a Black woman which I am. Who lives in New York City as do I and dates. Unfortunately those three things alone can not make a good book. Perhaps I am to jaded, the story just plodded along as the characters fell in love. Halfway through I wished an assassin would come and kill off a minor character just to make it more interesting. Unfortunately I was not so lucky. It just went on and on. I wish I could tell you this was a good story. Because I feel we need more African American Romances but this one just isn't good.
Faith Whitfield dreamed she'd find her prince, but once former air force pilot Ethan McMillan comes to her aid she has given up on an HEA for herself. Ethan has a fight on his hands to prove he is her HEA.
This book is my favorite out the series. I know from experience that dealing with trust issues can be hard for the other person in the relationship, but my guy is quite special........ I am glad he stuck by me these last two years.
Faith is secure in her business and life in general, except for romance. Her serious relationships with men have not gone well, making her wary of commitment. Ethan is taken with Faith at first sight and is determined to find out all he can about her. Ethan's determination finally wins him a chance to date Faith. Letting go, Faith goes out with Ethan. As the relationship goes on they fall for each other. Ethan wants Faith for his wife and mother to any children he will have. Faith is busy working and fighting her feelings. Valentine's weekend her struggle ends and she married Ethan. They a church wedding, a second wedding for family and friends, for a little later. Ethan got his wish, his 💘. Good book.
This was a good read between Ethan and Faith's coming together. I loved and enjoyed reading their story,I would absolutely recommend reading this book, however it is the second in a series of 3 I read book 1 and then 3 then I read book 2 with that said,I loved them all. Great job Ms. Alers please keep these wonderful stories coming and thank you. 👍🙏❤
Excellent read, I enjoyed the characters and storyline. Ethan and Faith are a great match. Ethan was instantly attracted to Faith, for him it was love at first sight. This is their journey to love and happiness.
I enjoyed reading this book of the series, "Whitfield Brides". I appreciate a love story to be just that, no dissension or discord. I am entertained by this author and have liked the writing since reading, "A Younger Man".
This book put me to sleep at times but it was a sweet story of Ethan, a car and airplane service owner and Faith, a culinary pastry chef. I have had this book on my read shelf for years and I am now trying to finish reading books I have purchased.
While I didn’t like this story as much as the first installment, it was a nice continuation of this series. Awaiting the library to contact me when the third is available.
This is the second book in this series. Faith and Ethan find each other in an unlikely place and don’t necessarily hit it off but grow to love each other and tie the knot.
This was a very good story, but Laws have mercy, I wanted to just choke the ish out of Faith and Ethan a few times!!! This couple worked my last nerve, Faith was just a bit of a shrew at times, and how do you love someone and not trust them, I understand that you've been hurt before, but Damon, he's not them, now Ethan ,(sushi understand not wanting to divulge your financial status in the beginning, but after you've started fantasizing marriage and babies, it's about time to be completely honest, how do you wanna make a home and family with her, and not have enough trust to let her know you're very rich?! Just too much silliness for two mature, advice giving, business savvy people!!!)
When you least expect it love will creep in your life. You wonder what it is but you really know, because you have been their before. What is worse is when you fight it and then you have to give in. This is what has happened with Faith Whitfield business owner of a paltrier and professional chef. When doing an engagement party for WJ Raymond's daughter she was faced by WJ's drunk son. Ethan McMillan came and handled the situation with his godson. It was almost as if neither one could believe what they were seeing. From then on Ethan wanted to spend as much time with Faith as possible, he found every to do so. Both had had bad relationships but for them it wasn't the same as the others. When love sticks it is a surprise to both.
