I rather enjoyed this book. The writing was quite good. It was well paced. The plot was engaging and had enough mystery to keep me intrigued. It was pretty much an insta-love type of situation, and easy peasy relationship wise. There wasn't any OW or OM drama. Neither were virgins. The sex scenes were hot. There were a few interesting and enjoyable side characters. 
Both the main characters were likable. However, I do think this book would have benefited from also having Xander's POV. Last, it was all wrapped in an ending that I wasn't a total fan of. It was a HAPPY FOR NOW with an ominous overtone that instead of leaving me smiling and picturing this couple happy forever, left me feeling like something bad was heading their way. I assume maybe we find out more in the daughter's duet FALLING SMALL. I am super curious in that regard, so maybe one day soon I will pick up that duet and give it a read. Until then I will pretend this couple lives until a ripe old age together.

Rosie Dominquez, 23, is a waitress, scrapping by while living in a trailer park in Texas. On her day off, in a quest to get some peace and quiet from her neighbors, she sets off into the woods to read and take some landscape photography. There she discovers a dead body and meets Xander Novak, 32.
A note to the millennial readers: This story is set in 1989. Translation: the characters aren’t using cell phones, cameras require rolls of film, Willard Scott is the Today show weatherman, and Czechoslovakia is a country. Old enough to remember those days, I didn’t mind the time frame. In fact, it was a bit of a refreshing change.
This story is actually the prequel to the author’s Falling Small Duet, although it can be read as a standalone. None the less, I feel that knowledge might be prudent to some readers. See safety recap.
I swayed a little on my rating of this one, mostly because I think it depends on the genre you’re looking to read it in. It’s a romantic suspense with thriller overtones. The suspense tone and mood is developed well, and it pulled me in as a mystery more than a romance, mostly because I didn’t become attached to either Rosie or Xander, nor was their chemistry palpable. I kept reading mainly to find out what happens and how everything fit together rather than because I was invested in them as a couple.
Told solely via Rosie’s first person POV, romance readers (like myself) who enjoy the stranded together trope for its absence of OW/OM presence will appreciate the set up. I think the story started off strong, but dropped off as it progressed.

So I really enjoyed Snapshot: my first book by this particular author it really was such an easy interesting read with such a tantalising mystery at its very centre.
This was actually quite a simple story mainly revolving around its two leads Xander and Rosie.
It was also rather instalove in nature which wasn't altogether a bad thing as it did work rather well.
The story its self-takes place before the digital age which helps explain its believability.
Though events here mainly feature Xander and Rosie there was still enough going on mystery wise to keep me engaged and interested.
Though I do think Snapshot would have benefited greatly from some input from Xander's POV not just Rosies.
Because of the lack of insight into Xanders perspective, I do think it took me a while longer to feel a connection with him and also by extension his interactions with Rosie.
I think the onesided POV was mainly used to retain the mystery but in my opinion, wasn't really needed.
I understand this is a standalone prequel to a duet written about the daughter so will definitely be checking that out: it also explains the open-ended ominous feel I took away from this.
This really was a great first time experience with this author and I am happy to recommend.

5+++ HOLY FORKING SHIRT STARS!!
Life hasn't always been easy for Rosie Dominguez. At 23 she has no family, she's a waitress and lives in a trailer park by herself. On the spur of the moment, one day she decides to buy a camera and go wandering into the woods to temporarily escape from her unsatisfying life and take some pictures of the beautiful Texan landscape.
While she's focused on her task and lost in the music coming from her walkman, she trips on a cactus and discovers a dead body. She should be scared, but she's indeed so fascinated by the tortured corpse that she starts taking pictures of it. But as they say "curiosity killed the cat", and Rosie suddenly finds herself trapped into the arms of Xander, not knowing if he's the killer or her savior. Or maybe he could be both.
Xander takes Rosie to his isolated house, and unexpected circumstances force them to remain together for a while. Their chemistry is undeniable and Rosie feels drawn to Xander, even if she knows she probably should be scared of him.
This story is full of suspense and mystery, but it's also filled with emotions and steam.
I adored the fact that it takes place in 1989, because it took me back to my childhood, to a time when everything was more simple, with less technology and more human contact.
As soon as I finished reading this story I was like
Having read the Falling Small Duet, I was so shocked to find out how the stories are someway interconnected. And that's why now I feel the need to re-read False Start and Pivot Line!
I believe that it's a gift and a blessing for a reader, being able to find fictional characters you get attached to, almost as if they were your real life friends.
And that's what happens to me every time I read a novel written by Rebel Farris. I feel so connected with the characters that I become invested in their lives. And once the story is over, I simply cannot let those characters go. Last night, after finishing Snapshot, I couldn't fall asleep because my mind kept going back to the story, connecting all the dots and filling all the gaps in my mind.
Rebel never cease to amaze me with her unique talent for suspense romance and I think everyone should read her amazing books!

When “Heroes” by David Bowie came on, I was lost in the rhythm of my own feet. Confident I was heading the same direction I came from, I didn’t bother looking at the compass. The setting sun was guiding enough. I sang out loud, no one but the critters and trees to hear me.
And that was when I tripped over a cactus.
I could feel the spines sticking into the flesh of my shins. I caught myself with my hands, but not soon enough. My chin bounced on the rocky ground. The pain shooting through my head was immediate. I reached up and brushed my fingers over it. There was a tiny smudge of blood, but it wasn’t gushing.
My earphones had fallen off with the jarring impact, David Bowie’s voice sounding far-off and tinny. But the sound that really captured my attention was the loud buzzing of flies. The second thing to hit me was the smell.
Once, when I was a kid, my foster mom was driving past a sewage plant. We had the windows down. She ordered me to roll mine up quickly, but it was too late. The wretched smell had invaded our car. Up until that moment, that smell had stood out in my memory as the worst smell on the planet.
This smell had that one beat, hands down.
It was like shit and piss and something else that was metallic, mixed with a sort of sickly sweet. I breathed out quickly and looked up. In front of me was blue fabric—a shirtsleeve, stained with rusty brown splotches. Dread swamped my gut. I shoved up to my feet, forgetting the pain of the cactus spines or the throbbing of my chin. I gasped at the sight before me and immediately regretted it. The horrible putrid smell invaded my nose. I swallowed hard and held my breath through several heaves of my stomach. Then I breathed in through my mouth, trying not to taste the smell on the air.
The body of a man lay there, twisted like a discarded rag doll, eyes just as vacant. Flies swarmed around his body. I was surprised that his face wasn’t bloated. I imagined that a dead body smelling like this would’ve shown more signs of decomposition. Yet his eyes were a clear bottle green, hair a dusky brown with gray patches over his temple. The cause of death: a bullet to his forehead.
But that man had been tortured. His tormentor… and I say tormentor because someone had cut and flayed most of his body. Those wounds looked much older than the one between his eyes. Some had festered and leaked a green, oozing pus, all in varying stages of infection.
I found myself fascinated. I stumbled, the dark thought rocking me to the core. But I was intrigued. Who would be strong enough to take this man down? He wasn’t small, easily a foot taller than me. He was well muscled, though, not quite fit.
I don’t know what compelled me to do what I did next, but I lifted my camera to my face and pushed the shutter release. The snap of the shutter blades made my muscles tense like it was the sound of a guillotine’s blade. Flashes of guilt and intrigue warred within me like I’d just witnessed my first beheading. I took a step closer and clicked again. Again.
I only stopped when the hand wrapped around my mouth, cutting off my ability to scream, and I was pulled against a hard body. It was then that I noticed the shovel and the half-dug hole next to the body. It was so stupid of me not to be more aware of my surroundings when finding a dead body in the woods. I pulled up my feet to kick at him. Fight. I was sure this was the killer and I’d just signed my own death warrant.
Curiosity being the cause of my downfall was not surprising in the least. Especially as he dragged me backward through the trees, away from the dead man.

WHITE KNUCKLES AND A RACING HEART !!!
The intriguing mystery and burning romance are the perfect combination to make this book a five-star read. I was so invested I couldn’t turn the pages quick enough to see what happened next.
The way we were slowly introduced into the backgrounds of these characters all added to the mystery, and the author’s ability to describe the scenarios made it so visual it was gripping, full of suspense - you could totally relate to the white knuckles.
So many times, I wondered how this passionate, sensual man could be a cold-hearted killer, or was he, because there was someone else lurking out in those isolated woods. I also wondered what secrets are going to unfold as we get into the mind of this beautiful, independent woman that he somehow manages to make vulnerability a strength. She is adventurous and strong and she has her reason for that. Xander is something else, and he would make anyone swoon and their heart race. “Though even Lucifer was an angel.”
It was written in our heroines POV. There were so many good lines in this book but my favourites were: “I will protect you as long as you are in my life,” one of the many from him, and, “Even if it cost me my soul, and my life, I would forsake it all. If he was the devil incarnate, I was well and truly Satan’s whore.” I could relate to this.
I went in blind with this book, I knew nothing other than my admiration for this fantastic author. I absolutely loved it, it is a book that will stay with you a long time after you have turned the final page.
Those books are the best kind–the ones that leave a lasting impression.

It's always a pleasure to read books. What's even more awesome is that you can text the author and talk with them. It's great the connection you have with them. So good.
Rebel Farris is another amazing author that I've had the pleasure of reading other books from. Her writing is raw and intense, wild and with so much passion between each chapter. Just see for yourself.

On her day off, she thought to go for some quiet place in the woods, to read a book and take some pictures but when she sees a dead body she couldn't even imagine the turn her life was about to get.
Oh boy... This was different alright. The fact that the book took place in 1989 makes all the difference. Because no cellphones, or Wi-Fi, or stuff like that.
The book is told only in Rosie's point of view but I think it would be better if we could have an input from Xander.
Great plot, very well written, engaging and surround by a thick cloud of mystery. Oh boy.
These two share a great chemistry and the hot scenes are pretty good. You'll like that.
The way this story ended left me wanting to read False Start and Pivot Line again. I know what happened but if I didn't I would be pissed. The ending left me thinking...

This story has a slower pace of action than her Falling Small debut but that doesn't mean it was bad at all, just a little calmer with less characters to focus on. I really enjoyed it that way too, I feel like I got to connect with the characters more since it's just two of them for the most part. There's still plenty of action, she stumbles onto a dead body for pete sake, and suspense but hold onto your butts because there is a hell of a twist at the end!
Rebel is quickly climbing to my top authors list. Her ability to connect you to her stories and make you feel like you are there is phenomenal. Can't wait for the Hummingbird series to come out!!

My review is 4.3 stars.
Hmm, I must say that Rebel is definitely trying to do something that is not being done in the past and that is very unique and I'm sure no-one would have ever thought about this. I'm saying all this because just tell me who create a romantic environment around a dead-body. Are you kidding me? In real life scenario, I can't think about anything but the body. But the author had something else in the mind. I was also thinking about why Rebel decided to name the book "Snapshot" as in previous books by her the book's title is perfectly going with the book. Rebel is an awesome creator who can design something, create something that usually out of thought process of other which makes her a really good writer. I must say I can't believe that this is only her third book, no ways, this can be only the third book by the author. But she's immensely talented and she showed her talent again, the way she wrote down this one.
This book starts with a brilliant plot and there were moments when I was actually chewing my nails a bit, though I don't chew in general, but how could I control and feel what I'm doing when I'm reading Rebel's book. Okay, the flow of the book was good and the way it progressed, the story evolved I really liked that. Both the MC's i.e., Rosie & Gender. I rated this book a little less than the previous two of her book because at exactly three scenes in the book I was little confused and in the whole book I have some problems with Xander, otherwise, I enjoyed the story really well. On those three scenes, I had to read the pages twice to get hold of it, which is little new to me in Rebel's book. Her previous two books were flawless, that's why I would say that this one made me 95% happy and 5% disappointed.
But I know how immensely she's talented and how amazing she is as a writer. This book is awesome, no doubt about it and I would definitely recommend this book to Romance-Mystery-Thriller readers.

Hmm, I must say that Rebel is definitely trying to do something that is not being done in the past and that is very unique and I'm sure no-one would have ever thought about this. I'm saying all this because just tell me who create a romantic environment around a dead-body. Are you kidding me? In real life scenario, I can't think about anything but the body. But the author had something else in the mind. I was also thinking about why Rebel decided to name the book "Snapshot" as in previous books by her the book's title is perfectly going with the book. Rebel is an awesome creator who can design something, create something that usually out of thought process of other which makes her a really good writer. I must say I can't believe that this is only her third book, no ways, this can be only the third book by the author. But she's immensely talented and she showed her talent again, the way she wrote down this one.
This book starts with a brilliant plot and there were moments when I was actually chewing my nails a bit, though I don't chew in general, but how could I control and feel what I'm doing when I'm reading Rebel's book. Okay, the flow of the book was good and the way it progressed, the story evolved I really liked that. Both the MC's i.e., Rosie & Gender. A new author to me and it was a great introduction! This psychological thriller has twists and turns and don’t believe everything you see. This is an awesome storyline and the characters had depth. All it takes is a blink of an eye to miss the perfect snapshot, to miss the detail, to have a distorted view.
Rosie had her eye on a camera and wanted to go into the countryside to take pictures. Armed with her new camera, plenty of film and a PB&J sandwich she drives to a remote area. After hiking for a few hours she come to a cliff, with a stream running along below! On her return trip...she literally falls over a body, but she’s not alone. A hand covers her mouth and she’s told the murderer is not far and to stay quiet. They retreat to his isolated farmhouse, no telephone and the truck needs repairs. Xander and Rosie become close but she still has niggling trust issues! Fearing Xander is the murderer, she sets to run as far from as him as she can! Does she run straight into the arms of the killer or does she escape one? Only one way to find out grab a copy.

This is the first book I've read from this author and it was a great story. A psychological romantic suspense with the beginnings of beautiful love story. Great characters, well developed and likable.
The opening scenes involve a dead body, not your usual start to a love story but it works brilliantly. Rosie is certainly a tough cookie, what she sees woud have had me running a mile. Xander is a complex character but the nature of the story will have you questioning his motives till the end.
I will certainly be looking out for more from this fab new author.

After Rebel’s debut novels the Falling Small Duet, I fell immensely captivated by her superb writing style. I fell in love with her dark and brilliant mind. With Snapshot, she had undoubtedly proven herself once again.
While the Falling Small Duet had me on the edge of my seat page by page by page, Snapshot had this thrillingly calm pace which will leave you spinning and digging for more of the story. It's a mixture of eerie and obscure and sweet. And I love that the characters on this one are as real as they can be!
At some point, it became a bit slow and predictable, but my god, that ending!!! Who would've thought there was a bomb waiting to explode at the last chapters?! That was another awesome twist to this huge tangle of events in Rebel's crazy world and I could not wait to find out where all this madness and mystery is heading. Absolutely hooked!
Rebel is definitely one of those authors you can easily get addicted to because she writes stories so brilliantly and wickedly and the world she takes you to will haunt you forever. Not to mention her humility and authenticity as a person is outstanding. An absolute favorite author no doubt.

This is my first read by this author and I really enjoyed it.
The story was set in 1989 which I really loved. The author wrote this in such a way she sucks you in slowly, your reading along and next thing you know your sucked right into the story. I thought Rosie and Xander were two great main characters. Realistic and likeable.
A really well written story that I read in one sitting. I just didn’t wanna put it down. Looking forward to reading more from this author.

Romantic suspense at it's finest! The intricate details and weaving of this story did not disapoint. Just when you think you have everything figured out...BAM there's the twist and your jaw drops. Yes! It's that good. I can't say any more other than it's worth the click. Why are you reading this review when you should be reading Snapshot?!

Romance, suspense , twist and turns will keep you flipping the pages of this book. The author has a very unique writing style. I thought for sure I had the plot figured out. The author would then give you another piece of the puzzle and you would be back to guessing. I really enjoyed this book .

What a thrilling story that kept my mind going with so many different scenarios throughout this read. We’re given a great evenly spread mix of suspense and lust that will having you turning the page non stop. The way the story is told and the details provided paint such a vivid picture of events that take place, some with leave you panting and others holding your breath. That epilogue literally had me gasping and smirking at once. If you’re looking for a read that will keep you on your toes then this is the boo for you.

Another five star book by Rebel Farris. Xander and Rosie are both complex and well written charters that you can't help but fall in love with .Great open that builds to a OMG ending that you will not see coming. Oh and lets just say I will never look at peaches the same way again.... you so need to read this book. Received an ARC for a honest review.

I liked this book but as said in the back it's a back story. I found the story a little slow to really capture me like her duet series. I loved the ending and can't wait and of course hope I get a chance at the next series the hummingbird series. Which if understood all three have a play in to get the ending and see what's going on. It has left me suspended.

The premise grabs you from the start. A love story which starts with a dead body. Rosie, out in the middle of the woods, enjoying the first day with a brand new camera stumbles upon a dead body and is immediately thrown into a wild setup which has her on the run for the vast majority of the story. Rebel Farris does an amazing job of keeping you guessing as to the mysterious Xander, is he Rosie's rescuer and protector, or is he something much worse.
If you think you know, you really don't, as the bread crumb trail of clues will have you guessing left, then right, then left again. As you go from "Girl run", to "OMG, he is your soul mate, stay," the pages will flip quickly and before you know it you are taken to an unexpected conclusion.
Although a standalone, readers of the Falling Small duet will have a very special treat buried in the dramatic end of Snapshot. (I'm still smiling).
Snapshot is but another amazing novels along with False Start and Pivot Line in the Hummingbird series.

Left me a bit shocked 😲 didn't see that twist coming
This starts out with a steady rhythm and slowly built till my heart was pounding and I wasn't sure who was lying and who was telling the truth
This starts with "insta-lust" - possibly a bit of hero syndrome - but it works so well - the story takes place when life was a bit simpler - The lack of insta information, cell phones and the like added a unique twist to the storyline
The story is narrated from Rosies POV - I'm not sure if that increased the intensity of the scenes or not 😬I do wish Xander had a bit of a say
Xander is quiet, protective and almost the perfect book boyfriend - Almost
Rosie is smart, quick to respond under pressure and doesn't back down - I enjoyed the tenacity of her character and the way she processed what was happening just made the storyline that much more approachable
This was a solid psychological thriller that kept me engaged and never quite sure who was what -Definitely would recommend

It's not what I expected and yet, it's what I've come to expect from Rebel Farris. It's difficult to top your debut duet. This is not like the first two in any way except this author has her own voice. Her distinct style may not fit into everyone's idea of romance or romantic suspense, but I liked this book.
Another winner from a writer who has a point of view that both shocks and thrills the reader.

This story suspenseful and all consuming. I was hooked and I remained glued to my tablet until I got to the very end. Rosie and Xander were EVERYTHING! I loved this story. It’s worth reading again, after I tell all of my friends about it.

After 2 other fantastic books by Rebel Pivot Line and False Start this one tied them together. Love this author and the twists and turns she puts in her books. The only problem is when you finish them it's like an addiction you need to know more.

Snapshot by Rebel Farris is a must read after The Falling Small Duet!
Farris has me hooked from the very beginning. I was completely captivated by the book and characters all day. Did not want to put it down.
I love the intricate storyline that Farris weaves and the twist she throws in that will have her readers jaws dropping open.

What do you get when you have two broken people from completely different walks of life come together? A beautiful, yet nail biting, story called Snapshot. Rosie and Xander have one of the scariest and craziest meetings. A dead body in the middle of nowhere. Rosie scared out of her mind, but Xander there to save her. Convenient, right? Yet as these two fall in love so do you. I fell in love with Xander and Rosie. I also fell in love with the writing. I was on the edge of my seat through the entire book just waiting to see what is going on. Trying to figure out if Xander was a good guy, until realizing I didn't really care.
Rosie is the type of character I love. She's strong and vulnerable. She's funny and serious. She is so much and more. You really connect with her. I can see myself doing exactly as she did it I was ever in that type of situation. Xander is a big ball of mystery that I love. He's so sweet outside of the bedroom, but inside he's a powerhouse. It's like a switch is flipped in him and I loved it! These two together help heal each other's broken parts, while at the same time making something new and beautiful.
