This is the first book of Dave Case that I have read and was so impressed with his creativity that I jumped at the chance to purchase and read his second book, STAND for the DEAD. A great move on my part!!!

Dave is a master at bringing you, the reader, into the action of his books! And the action in OUT of CABRINI is never-ending! Whether it is from ducking from the gangs, bullets and the drugs being used and sold or from watching how Cabrini Green was turning into a massive hellhole where its majority of residents were innocent bystanders and survivors of terrible situations, the reader is never bored.

Can't wait for its sequel, CHICAGO JUSTICE!

In STAND for the DEAD, the reader is put into the center of the actions as the main character pursues the commitment to his mother as he seeks out justice for the dead and the lost brother that he truly hopes is not one of the killers. And there are plenty of conflicts with killers, Indians, and bad lawmen to keep the action going!

I really enjoyed this book. A friend of mine recommended it, and he said that I'd be hooked after the first chapter. He was right. The author switches back and forth between the police point of view and a group of gang members chasing a misplaced stash of drugs, and the whole time he's drawing you into the story, building up tension until the two story lines collide.

His situations seemed authentic, the dialogue was good, the cops seemed realistic, and the bad guys were suitably bad. It had the feel, to me, a little like the 87th Precinct novels by Ed McBain, and I loved those. I'm looking forward to reading the follow-up, which I understand will be out soon.

Chicago cop Dave Case pens an action-filled police procedural that ranks high on authenticity. The details are dated, however, far older than the 2006 publication date, perhaps a decade earlier. Case is still learning the craft of writing, but his story is dead on target.

Really cool modern day Chicago crime story written by a Chicago cop. Especially fun for Chicago readers because it mentions such locales as The Exit, Boss Bar, etc.
