One thing to clear up. This book was actually written by Keith Hernandez, former baseball player. In fact Mr. Hernandez played first base, which is the position which is central to this story. The story is one of friendship and being ready for your chance when it comes your way. Out hero wants to play first base, but has been put in the outfield as he a good fielder and there is another player on the team who is established at first base. Despite his disappointment he becomes friends with the other player.
This is a story children can relate to, possibly better than adults. The art for this book is well done. As well there a number of pop-ups and such that will delight younger children. All in all a great book for children, and who knows, maybe it will make a baseball fan out of them

This book is about a team filled with diversity and kids from all different backgrounds that play baseball. The kids vary in age and race but find out how to be a team by using teamwork. This book is super fun and interactive which is why it is great for young kids and even more so for kids who love to play baseball like I did as a kid. This book is a pop up book which makes it very fun to read. The book shows a lot about the benefits of teamwork and how you can't play baseball being selfish, you need your team. This book is intended for a younger audience so if I was a teacher I would use this book to talk about teamwork and I would read it out loud because I am sure that the kids would love to see all the pop ups during the story.
