With an arsonist loose in Metropolis, Superman’s powers are almost useless in finding the culprit. And back at the Daily Planet, everyone wants to know what’s going on with Lois Lane. How can Clark hold on to the secret of what happened to Lois and Jon much longer?
A comic book writer and erstwhile artist. He has won critical acclaim (including five Eisner Awards) and is one of the most successful writers working in mainstream comics. For over eight years Bendis’s books have consistently sat in the top five best sellers on the nationwide comic and graphic novel sales charts.
Though he started as a writer and artist of independent noir fiction series, he shot to stardom as a writer of Marvel Comics' superhero books, particularly Ultimate Spider-Man.
Bendis first entered the comic world with the "Jinx" line of crime comics in 1995. This line has spawned the graphic novels Goldfish, Fire, Jinx, Torso (with Marc Andreyko), and Total Sell Out. Bendis is writing the film version of Jinx for Universal Pictures with Oscar-winner Charlize Theron attached to star and produce.
Bendis’s other projects include the Harvey, Eisner, and Eagle Award-nominated Powers (with Michael Avon Oeming) originally from Image Comics, now published by Marvel's new creator-owned imprint Icon Comics, and the Hollywood tell-all Fortune and Glory from Oni Press, both of which received an "A" from Entertainment Weekly.
Bendis is one of the premiere architects of Marvel's "Ultimate" line: comics specifically created for the new generation of comic readers. He has written every issue of Ultimate Spider-Man since its best-selling launch, and has also written for Ultimate Fantastic Four and Ultimate X-Men, as well as every issue of Ultimate Marvel Team-Up, Ultimate Origin and Ultimate Six.
Brian is currently helming a renaissance for Marvel’s AVENGERS franchise by writing both New Avengers and Mighty Avengers along with the successful ‘event’ projects House Of M, Secret War, and this summer’s Secret Invasion.
He has also previously done work on Daredevil, Alias, and The Pulse.
Surprised this is getting mediocre reviews. Maybe there are high expectations for Bendis? I always enjoyed him on Spider-Man, which probably makes him a good fit for Supes, Flash, or Hal Jordan. I love this, but won't over analyze it as more than it is - just another Superman story.
This was a really disappointing second issue and I largely blame action 1000 for that. Putting a preview of this series in that instead of a short story written by Bendis turned this into a waiting game for me wanting to see us get past that scene and see where it goes afterwords. And after the reveal at the end of the first issue of this I thought that Action 1000 preview was going to be the opening scene of this but instead it seems to be mostly flash back with us only getting a small glimpse at what was attacking Clark and his family at the end of the last issue and it honestly looks like it could be any random DC cosmic thing to me. Also, really Bendis? Parry worrying over being able to keep the planet afloat in modern day where very few people still read news papers, first redoing how krypton got destroyed and now this, do you have any ideas for Superman we haven't seen a dozen times before? I'm trying to give this series the benefit of the doubt as what is here is written fairly well, but my patience is wearing thin and we're only on issue 2 of 5.
Número 2 de seis [sic] de la versión en revistas, pero con ISBN de la rara edición argentina de la miniserie Man of Steel que seguramente replica el contenido de la española.
We get the rulers of the star system debating what happened to Krypton. They pray Rogol Zaar died with Krypton, but of course, he has not.
The new girl at the Daily Planet is asking questions regarding Clark and Lois. We know something is there, but what hasn't come to light yet. Perry White laments that the Planet has been sold and the reporters need to do more to relevant. The new girl suggests writing about Clark and Lois.
And Superman is struggling. Metropolis is burning one building at a time and he is unable to get a handle on it. Obviously weighed down by Lois's exit, Superman has internal struggles and is unfriendly to Green Latern.
Man Of Steel # 2 (2018 version !! ) is a good story , but is ultimately not necessary . Adding character who is responsible for Krypton's destruction take away from the drama of Krypton's destruction . The miniseries DOES set up some interesting plot developments , however . There is the plot element of Lois and Jon's absence , as well as the plot of the Daily Planet being in trouble . I will read the next issue , to see where this develops .
This is probably closer to 3.5 stars: at least, I liked it better than #1. It is engaging enough that I want to find out what happens, but doesn't excite me as much as I would hope. I'll probably buy #3 next week.
Bendis is off to a great start in the Superman story. It seems he is getting back to what makes Superman who he is and exploring more Kryptonian lure. Pick this series up!
Pretty good second issue. Extremely fast read but a lot going on. The mystery of Lois and Jon deepens. And was that Ambush Bug at the bar/casino in the Vegan System?
