Worst spy story I ever read...aww. Seriously, if you don't wish to do a lot of historical research as an author, simply write contemporary. At least I got four books off my TBR list and two books off my physical shelves.

Some breakdown of the errors and issues with this one:
Content:
#1 Swearing "by God" in a Christian novel, not once but twice, and turning around and quoting Scripture within the papragraph.
#2 Calling one's wife a chit

Nakedness, talk of having to wash a sick man's private parts and then doing so, alcohol and tobacco use

Now for the history, geography, and infectious diseases trivia of the day! SPOILERS may occur without warning. If actual research on these topics did occur, I'd love to know some sources...

Geography: 1814 missionaries to Uganda? Uganda wasn't named Uganda until it became a British territory in 1894, and a push to send missionaries into the region wasn't until 1844. And Uganda didn't become an independent country until all the way down in 1962.

Infectious diseases: typhus (also referred to continually as a proper noun, which it is NOT...diseases are lower case unless named for a proper place or a person) is said to be "always fatal" and they diagnose it by a "tell-tale rash" and fever. They mention it strange that some children at an orphanage survived it. In actuality, depending on which of the three strains of typhus is passed, death rates among the untreated range from 10-60%, generally around 30%. It's also not passed from human to human, but must be contracted via a bug bite. Closing a door on a sick man in a ship wouldn't contain the illness because bugs would go right past the door. Moreover, there are three diseases with very common symptoms to typhus, such as malaria, and even now it requires a skin test to see if typhus is the actual cause of illness. When a character catches pneumonia, a sore throat is cited as a symptom, which is also incorrect. And the characters evince relief that it's just pneumonia--except the facts don't agree. Pneumonia, unlike typhus, is more common, and untreated is one of the seven leading causes of death in the world. Death rates for it are close, 10-50%, with an average of 30%.

History: while mentioning the history of the country and the sicknesses, it's also worth mentioning that the time period of the mission massacre changes halfway, from her "crouching as a young girl" to hide from the attackers, to a mention of several years an orphan, and then "one year" since the attacks. Quite confusing. Culturally, she is more ready to run away with a man of questionable repute than to consent to marriage with the man she dislikes; no girl of principle in the Regency period would think it possible to be a "girl of morals" and run away with a stranger of unknown origins. This twist was highly unlikely for me and was the point that really made me break with the believability of the tale.

Editing: oh, poor me! From anachronistic terms like "come on, man" to the frequent missing commas and the continual wrong spellings, it was often hard to make out the author's true meaning. I got some good chuckles out of "bowel" instead of "bowl" and "in tact" instead of "intact," for instance. One sentence near the end actually reads, "Let that me his just deserts," which I think would be hilarious if the speaker foisted the villain into an actual desert and left him there.

I'm sorry to have to leave an entirely negative review, but this little story honestly needs an overhaul with a good content and copy editor team. I'd like a refund on my hour of reading time, please.

It is 1814 in England. Moira Kingsley has lost her parents in a tragic accident. Following their unfortunate demise, she goes to England to live with her Aunt and Uncle. They arrange for her to be married to a man she doesn't particularly like or want to marry--Baron Tyrus Kingsley. But the night of her engagement party she meets Mr. Samuel Stryker, an American spy, posing at the party. She stumbles on to his secret and he has to decide if he wants to kill her or take her with him.

Fortunately for Moira, he takes her with him and the adventure begins. I enjoyed this adventure as a whole. The romance, the setting and the travels were all good clean fun entertainment. Being a novella, it is a fairly quick read. I was ready for a book with a happy ending. . .but this one even had a happy surprise I didn't see coming. I thoroughly enjoyed the story. Moira's parents were missionaries to Uganda. However, when I looked that up, I don't see where Uganda was a country by that name in 1814 so I am not sure about how historically accurate the book is. Our church supports missionaries from Uganda so finding that fact in the book peaked my interest and research. For that reason, I gave it four stars.

Give Me Thine Heart by Andrea Boeshaar is a satisfying novella for history lovers.

British Moira Kingsly is mourning the loss of her missionary parents and is not looking forward to marriage to the man her uncle has chosen for her. Enter Samuel White, an American , who is a spy. He is trying to get back to the Colonies to warn the President of an attack. Samuel rescues Moira and then the fun begins.
Well written novella that shows the challenges and dangers of life aboard a ship traveling to America in 1814.
If you want a taste of history, this is a great read.

Moira is engaged to a man she doesn’t know and wants nothing more than to leave. Enter Sam Stryker. The only person to pay attention to Moira at her own engagement ball, Sam intrigues Moira from the get-go. And when he offers to take her away….

While the majority of this book takes place on a ship, there are plenty of waves and storms to weather. As Moira gets her spy education, she and Sam are existing in close quarters and slowly learning that the other just might be the person they don’t want to live without.

The spy angle adds some fun to the book and the surprise at the end is fantastic.

I quite enjoyed the novelty of this story, and personalities of both the hero and heroine, no matter how unrealistic some of the decisions they made were. However, I had to take a point off for the absolutely uninspired, cliche decision made at the book's conclusion... it felt cheap and entirely unnecessary. Other than that though, it was an enjoyable read all in all.

God always has a plan for His children, but the path to finding it is often full of surprising turns. Such is the case for Moira and Sam.

Moira is betrothed to a man she can’t stand. When she discovers a secret about dashing young spy Sam, he impulsively sweeps her away from her controlling family and onto a ship to complete his mission. Their impromptu partnership is one of mutual convenience, but God and their own hearts may have other ideas.

This is a sweet, funny, story with plenty of adventure. Moira and Sam are unique and engaging characters, and their chemistry is instantly entertaining. The journey they take to discover God’s hand in their lives is uplifting.

I recommend this novella to fans of an uplifting romance on the high seas.

Why did it feel so natural to lean into his embrace? Even the smell of him…seemed familiar.

Give Me Thine Heart is a sweet fast-paced story, taking place in the early 1800s. Moira, the eighteen-year-old daughter of missionaries, exudes an inner strength that is believable, throwing caution to the wind and running away with a stranger when marrying an unthinkable man is the only alternative. I liked how her spunk didn’t interfere with her morals, and she stayed true to herself and her beliefs in nearly impossible situations.

Sam, a spy for the United States, is also an interesting character, rather rebellious and daring. His attraction, and unusual relationship with Moira begins to erode his tough exterior and reveals a strong and likable leading man.

Much of Moira and Sam’s story occurs upon The Seahawk, a ship on the high seas, on a months-long journey from England to the American Colonies. I pictured the ship, the people, and the dangers that arise very vividly. The ending provided an unexpected twist, wrapping things up nicely, but perhaps too quickly. I wish the book had been a little longer, allowing the closing events to be fleshed out a bit more. Nevertheless, I’m happy with this story and look forward to more of Ms. Boeshaar’s work.

I found this novella to be quite enjoyable to read. The H/h are likable and well-developed. Moira Kingsley lost her parents and is living with her father’s brother and his wife. Her Uncle Tyrus has betrothed her to a man she neither likes nor wants to marry. Enter the Hero Mr. Samuel Stryker, a spy for the United States during wartime. He dances with and talks to Moira and then finds her later looking at a book that fell out of his overcoat pocket. His diary. All his spy information is in it. Now he has to decide either to kill Moira or kidnap her. He has never killed an innocent, let alone a woman, before so he kidnaps her. Moira sees kidnapping as a way out of marrying her odious fiancé.

After boarding a ship bound for the American Colonies, things begin to heat up because they are passing themselves off as husband and wife and must share a cabin. Will they be able to convince everyone they are happily married or will they be discovered? How long will they be able to keep up the pretence before their feelings become real? Or will Sam get an annulment like he plans as soon as they get to America? I believe you will enjoy this book as much as I did if you like clean, Christian historical romance. Enjoy!

Give Me Thine Heart is a historical romance novella by author Andrea Boeshaar. I am reading this ebook as part of my monthly reviews for CWA. I picked this book because I liked the cover and the title. Setting: Kingsley Manor, Periwick, England, 1814.

Moira Kingsley, a British spy, sailed to America after her missionary parents died. Her uncle arranged for her to marry a man she did not love. Her only escape was to become a spy and go to America.

I enjoyed this clean 156-page novella. One of my favorite parts was when Moira and Sam went swimming. Sam taught Moira how to float on her back. She had to learn to trust him, her spy partner. Another favorite was their mock marriage.

I love this quote found on page #135: You could never settle for a daisy when an entire flower garden lay at your disposal.

I recommend this book to fans of historical romance and spy novels.

I really love this author’s amazing stories. Her Christian fiction has just gotten to my heart in the few stories I have read so far. This is another most wonderful story and I really loved it. I loved the hero and heroine. She was used to moving around with her missionary parents. They died and now she is with her aunt and uncle in England. Her uncle is about to marry her off to a very bad man but a man at the engagement ball rescues her. This is during the time Britain is trying to regain the United States after the American Revolution.
He is a spy and needing to get back to the states to tell the President what he found out and he ends up taking her with him.
Adventure abounds, British ships after disguised American Ships, and love somehow finds its way.
This is a novella and a really good one. I really enjoyed this story, a lot.

Give Me Thine Heart is an easy read, reasonably well-developed characters and an interesting plot with a bit of mystery, sweet romance and some surprises; unfortunately it could have used more editing as there were a substantial number of typos, missing words and incorrect tenses. This was my first read by Andrea Boeshaar, and I certainly would be happy to read more by her, and would like to know more about Moira and Sam and where their secret "spy careers" take them.

I bought this story as part of a Timeless Love box-set and look forward to reading the remaining stories in this lovely set.

"Give Me Thine Heart" by Andrea Boeshaar is a very intriguing novella. I was swept up in this story's adventure from the very beginning to the end.

This was such a nice light read - and quick.

Her uncle has betrothed Moira to someone she would rather die than marry. Samuel, after she sees his diary, would like nothing better than to accommodate her - but instead, he kidnaps her (her being quite willing to be kidnapped) and together they sail to America. Most of the story takes place on the ship or at stops along the way. A wee bit of love begins to grow between the two along the way as well, and when they do get to America... well, I guess you will need to read the story to find out about that.

This is a clean read.

Give Me Thine Heart by Andrea Boeshaar
I'm not fond of Regency romance, so when the book started, my heart sank a bit, but I'm glad I stuck with it.  The time period is actually right before the American Revolution.  It was a beautiful story with strong Christian themes throughout.  I will definitely be reading more of Andrea's books

This story was so fun to read. There certainly were some tense moments that kept me turning the pages. I loved seeing and feeling the romance develop. That kept me turning the pages too (ha!). This novel is definitely worth reading. The ending was perfect. I didn’t see it coming.
