This is the second book of author which I read. First was the “The last chai”. This is markedly better than the last one. The characters are repeated from the last book and some are new additions. Though it is not necessary to read the book in order but it is recommended.
The story moves far and wide n the globe. India, china, USA, Israel, middle east, Japan, North Korea etc all are involved in in capacity or other. USA and North Korea are on a brink of a nuclear war. Dalai Lama, supreme leader of Tibet has endorsed China and this is a huge setback to India. How will the Indian PM, Doshi tackle this?
The book has some interesting theories and details of espionage and media. The expanse is as big as possible and there lies the problem. The book goes hay wire after initial thrust. Still it is a once time read with good pace. 3/ 5 stars.
Checkmate was the kind of an average book. I wanted to finish it, and yet the story dragged a lot.
The storyline was good, but the writing style sometimes turned way too monotonous and boring.
The characters weren't well developed at all, and left a lot to be desired. I wish there'd been more content to the story.
I don't really know what else to say. I didn't hate the book, but I didn't love it either. It's one of the few books that I can't decide whether I like or don't.

While there are still some men who wants to attain a peaceful environment in the countries but the issues are significantly getting worse. First, the rules set by Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar for Dalits have been followed by centuries and lately, some have converted to Buddhism which is preached by Lama. His followers were Chinese which are now freed.
In the book, the author has conversed about the issues and his point of view to subtle the problems which were not thought by the actual leaders.

The book is set in 2020 and it revolves around the Indo-China war and the uprising enemity between the countries. This book also deals with the cold war between countries, fear of the uprising war, conflicts, patriotism, etc. The plans plotted by the Indians to defend the country, the intervention of Lama, the war against Israel plotted by every other nations were all top notch of the book. Further the book is built upon revealing the answers for what was the role of Lama in bringing back the peace?? What if the war is unavoidable?? Were the officers capable enough to succeed in the missions alloted or the nation has to pay for their defeat??
The gripping tale reveals the hard work done by the author to bring out an engrossing fiction. The plot is seemingly realistic and the narration makes the plot unfold infront of our own eyes. The plot is plotted in the year of 2020, story is captivating and thrilling in narrative view. Story is constructed in a manner of easily understandable. But author took some serious issues to move story like Dalits being treated as untouchable (which is almost not happening in nowadays) I didn't liked author took this concept, also directly using a name of Dalai Lama to move the story is also little unacceptable only as a fictional story it is acceptable and other India-China, India-pakisthan, USA-china, Tibet-china these countries conflicts and political unstable relations which everyone knows that author made use of it.
Language used was simple but usage of adult words at a made little uncomfortable. Characterization is done well even though lot of characters author justified everyone's role.
Overall, Checkmate is a good book as it viewable as fiction. Let's talk about the cover and title first. The best I I liked it about cover itself representing two nations with the symbol of their national animals and it was put intentionally for the readers. The title checkmate does justice with the plot and one can easily get the idea of story with title. Checkmate is a word used in chess, while playing the last chance, used for exclaiming victory. Coming to the plot this book is the sequel of political thriller the last chai. Book is set into 2020 and is about Indo China war. The best of the the plot was intervention of lama, and plan of war against Israel by Indians. This book is a result of much research and hard work. Continuing to the language and narration. Language is the simple and easily readable while narration is gripping, author beautifully crafted each page and turning each page increases our suspense to know more about it. More like a 3.5. A fictional story. A decent one time read. Fast paced and a real quick one, similar to it's prequel in these aspects. Coming to the story itself, it delves a little into the future compared to it's previous timeline. The author narrates about some events in the year 2022. It's all about how close the world has come to world war 3 scenario with some high stakes events being triggered in both, the eastern and Western parts of Asia simultaneously. India and the Indian government which are in the prime focus of this series play a major role in all of this. The book concludes with the narrative about how things come back to normalcy after such a grave situation and what part India has had in the whole matter.

Checkmate by Varun T is something apart from ordinary romances or thrillers. It gives you a touch of emotions along with strong characters and solid storyline. The title might confuse a little bit at begaining but it surely relates to the plot of the novel. If you loved the previous one (The last chai) from Varun, you will surely love Checkmate too.

At first let me tell you that the title and the cover made this book more significant. The cover is so colourful and very attractive. From the beginning of the book one can feel the adventure and the action. The book will lead you towards many aspects like politics, religion. And it will also lead you towards many countries. The book talks about some critical issues, that's are very hard to describe! The storytelling process is really good. But at some points the book seems slow, but after that it's okay. The book Checkmate by Varun T is really mind blowing. At first let me tell you that the title and the cover made this book more significant. The cover is so colourful and very attractive. From the beginning of the book one can feel the adventure and the action. The book will lead you towards many aspects like politics, religion. And it will also lead you towards many countries. The book talks about some critical issues, that's are very hard to describe! The storytelling process is really good. But at some points the book seems slow, but after that it's okay. Narration is really good. You must read the book till the end to know better. A must read book.
There are many thriller novels which looks so fictional in the end but as I've read this. This was something magical thriller with each page it was becoming more interesting. Novel is based on indo-china disputes and all and their relations in presence of lamas. It's definitely a one time read for everyone who's searching absolute new thing to read.

The story comprises of rivalry with China, a war type situation, political conflicts and disturbed relations with the nation and moves plotted by both the nations to face a war in any case. The ever-dynamic Indian leader Mr. Doshi and his trusted officer Ajay Kaamte and their tactics is one of the highlights of the whole plot. The author bases the plot on the Sino-India relations and the Indo- China war. While the first book of the series was only limited to India, the second one has world superpowers like the United states of America, china, Israel, United Arab Emirates and other nations involved as well. The superhero in the authors books, Mr. Kaamte is saeen in a very interesting avatar and is referred to as Zanglang which is an interesting name given to him. To find out what exactly Zanglang is and why is Ajay Kaamte referred to as Zanglang grab your hands on this book. The plot, storyline, narration and the turn of events in the story was engaging and fast paced. The genre being a thriller makes the book more interesting. The language is easy to comprehend. The story borrows some famous and loveable characters from the first part of the series who make the story complete and more interesting. The characters are strong and well developed as in the first part. However, personally I find the first part to stand out as more interesting than the second one. If you have read Varun's last book: The Last Chai, you can definitely see that how much he's improved. We can say that it's sequel of his first book. Whole story plot is based on present scenario of Indian politics. I love this book because of mixture of all up and downs of politics with twist and turns. Some time readers can feel this story is belongs to patriotism. The author has written this book in very interesting way and I was able to finish it in one sitting. The narration of the book is not only gripping but the fast pace describing the events made the book a hooking read. Varun has kept his readers awaiting till the last page of the book to reach the conclusion, and still I’m waiting for a gripping 3rd part of this series. I would recommend this to everyone who loves political thrillers.

It's after 3 months that I found another mind blowing based on nation and its inner strength by the same author. Author has done a complete hard work and great job in penning down this book. After last chai this book has once again changed most of my ways to understand things. A perfect combination of thrill and suspense. A worthy read which I would suggest to readers. Just like the 2 sides of a coin checkout how this book shows different sides and different faces of the world.
The Cover includes so many details about the plot. It simply represents India because of the elements used. There is an appearance of some other elements also, which depicted China, as per the story.
The title "Checkmate" signifies the win of one over other. It is mostly used in Chess, when a person defeats the other person. It is an eye-catching word which is used by the Author to grab the attention of the readers.
Brief Synopsis: This is the second part of the Novel ""The Last Chai", which was an amazing political thriller as well.
The plot of the story may be fiction but it is based on the current ploticial situations of our country. This story is the extension to the last novel, and talks about India's relationship with China.

The story is based in the year 2020. India and China are on the verge of war and there is nothing friendly in the political relations between them. And not just this, Pakistan is on the side of China as always. These 3 things sound similar to the present situation and this was the main reason I was into this story instantly. Politics has been one of the subjects that I was never much interested in but I appreciate the way in which the author has written this story. I did not feel like putting down this book before finishing it. It is all about India, China, US, Pakistan and some other related issues as well. If you have an idea of what is happening in this world, you will not take much time to be lost in this story.
The cover of the book is great. The one who has designed this book has an eye for details and knows how to stick to the theme of the book and yet show the details. The plot is not a unique or an amazing thought that came out of the brain of the author. He is a good observer and a good storyteller. The narration is good and can keep you glued to the story. The title is good but the phrase after the main title actually tells you what the story is about.
