Victory is on the horizon - but what price must be paid to obtain it? In this final installment of the Surviving the Fall series, Rick and Dianne will face their enemies head-on while Damocles looms in the background, threatening the destruction of all. Surviving the Fall is a thrilling post-apocalyptic episodic series that focuses on Rick and Dianne Waters and how they each deal with the apocalypse. Stranded across the country away from his family, Rick must travel from California to Virginia to reunite with his wife and children, all while struggling to comprehend and deal with the horrors along the way. At home with her three children when she experiences the beginning of the end in a dramatic and deadly fashion, Dianne Waters has experience as a prepper and survivalist, but not even years of training and preparation have readied her for the darkness that comes with the end of the world. Now she must draw upon those skills to protect her loved ones and fight back against those who come against her and her family. Surviving the Fall will feature 14 episodic (25k-30k words in length) books that are full of action, suspense and drama as Rick and Dianne struggle to survive the end of days. Episodes will be published every 2-3 weeks.
This is the final episode of the serial Surviving the Fall, the final book # 12. The end is not without cost which is great, meaning that not everyone gets out alive. I won't spoil. It's an apocalyptic tale, so it makes sense that the story requires an emotional toll. That's all I will say about that. There is emotion-- raw and evocative that reminds you of similar times in your life. I hated Red Shirt and felt for ALL the protagonists. I think the Extinction Level Event was plausible and fun to explore. I like Mike Kraus as an author and I’m interested in reading more of his other Apocalyptic Series. He clearly knows how to craft a complex plot and draw it to an organic conclusion. The fact that he has so many distinct end-of-days scenarios as part of his publishing history would make me averse to meeting him in person, but I look forward to reading some of these. This is my first one and I can unequivocally say that it will not be my last.
The last installment in this series. The author says that his goal was to write a fun and exciting post-apocalyptic story. It was that so I give the conclusion as well as the entire story three stars because it kept me engaged. However, although fun and exciting, it wasn't more than that. The writing was okay and the overall plot pretty good, but a lot of what happened was pretty implausible--just a couple of examples: who happens to have a sledgehammer in their backpack when they unexpectedly need to break down a door, or astronauts who fashion an outboard motor from spare parts to safely get their landing capsule to shore? So fun, exciting and a little ridiculous.
..... series has been one heck of an adventure!!! The first 9 books 📚 were great but the last 3 books of this series has been no less than fantastic!!!!!! The action, adventure, the love and the hate are all exceptional !!!!! I've now read just about ALL of Mike Kraus's books/series, with the exception of one or two co-written series that I fully intend on reading!!!! Thanks, Mike Kraus, for keeping us so well entertained!!!!!! Mike Hansen, Nuneaton, England (but is from Texas!).
This book was great reading I loved the whole series. Can’t wait till his next ones come out . Mike is a great author, fantastic writer. His books always leave me on the edge of my seat. Thank you Mike for another great reading experience.
This last book has been a fairly good ending to a very good series. It is different from a lot of the more standard post-apocalyptic stories out currently. It is not clear to me as to the point of the astronauts from the space station. I kept expecting them to have a relevant action to the story and they really never did. The ending seemed a bit rushed at the Waters home and then, suddenly, it is all Ok. At some point, I need to read them through again to avoid the stopping, starting and waiting when reading such small individual books as they are released.
I love this last book in the series. Everything is tied up nearly and there is a fairly happy ending, if you can call an apocalypse ending a happy event. This series makes one think and hopefully prepare for at least real emergencies likely to happen in certain areas of the United States, such as floods, earthquakes, fires, tornadoes, and hurricanes. Let us hope this book remains fiction and we can enjoy the thrills and chills this series gives.
Mike has done it again......a real page Turner. When I start one of Mike's books it could be an ALL nighter. It's so hard to stop reading,, you just can't put the book down. In my case it's my Kindle Fire. That's again Mike for another great read. Al Sheppard
I became really interested in the trio from the ISS. My main quibble was with the Russian backstory. The Russian president wanted the codes badly enough to hold hostage a man's family. I also wonder how the U.S. could provide substantial aid since it seems to have suffered first and most with the cities in ruins.
I liked how everything wrapped up for Dianne and Rick, but thought the last bit was a little rushed. I would have liked to see a longer epilogue, but I was happy with the one given.
The whole ISS thing, as I predicted, had no actual impact on the story and was pretty much useless.
What an amazing adventure! And this was the perfect ending. I was really caught up in the last battle and the arrival of Rick. Amazing resilience by this entire group of characters. This is a scary and enthralling what if scenario. Is it possible? What would you do? Let's hope we never have to find out.
I loved this series! Mike Kraus does it again. I loved the story line and the characters! This series keeps you on your toes from beginning to end!!!! You get so engrossed in the characters that you go one harrowing disaster to next along with each and every one of them.
Very good series but was originally supposed to be 14 books not 12. There were quiet a few mistakes in editing spelling and tense changes. There were also some plot problems in a couple of books where the things that happened would probably have been different in real life.

The characters were well rounded and very interesting. I could not put the whole story down. You have to read the whole series to enjoy the read. Very detailed without the boring stuff. Each character was amazing . You need to read to enjoy....
I was really disappointed in Mr Kraus' claiming 12 books when it should have been way less. Could have been 1 or 2 in my opinion. The plot was awesome. Having to buy 12 "books" were not.
Get this, regardless of the cost to get all 12 sections. The story line is very good, the books are well written and I really like the author’s end notes.
I have enjoyed reading this saga. Absolutely keeps you waiting for next book, as now finished this Survival series now looking for more to read. Thank you Mike
I consider this author to be one of the best. Between him and P.A.Glaspy I have found two very exceptionally talented writers. Can't wait for more from them.
