Collette's suspicions and jealousies arise, but are tempered from the guilt of her own infidelity. The field slave, Tabari, finally escapes but is hunted by two saddle tramps and the law. Throughout it all, the scalawag Doctor disrupts everyone's lives, managing to line his own pockets all the while. Set in and around New Orleans, this deeply moving tale of scandal, sex, and suspense follows the voyages of these very different characters in the 1850s.

Disappointed
I find it hard to believe that the author is a college graduate. While the story was good and the characters believable, this book badly needed editing. I found misspelling, incorrect punctuation and at times awkward reading. An attempt was made to write “as slaves speak” and still was poorly done. I will not waste my time on the next book in the series.

Great Characters
The storyline is true to the time period, the characters realistic. I've been a student of this time in history for over 50 years so I have read hundreds of books, both fiction and non-fiction. This story held so much promise as I turned each page, I couldn't help but stay up late reading. I appreciated the fact that there was not a lot of "fluff" added simply to achieve word count. The dialog was authentic and realistic as well. I was very disappointed in the unexpected and abrupt ending. While I realize the author was trying to entice readers to purchase his follow up, this was not the way to do it. The ending was like a cheap trick and this story deserved so much more.

There are misspelled words, not because of dialect , just wrong word cause instead of caused, more editing mistakes. Sometimes the story just became a bit boring and I hto adx to put it down. But over all it was interesting.

Harsh realities.
The brutality of the slave trade is graphically depicted in this story of a sugar cane plantation that starts in the villages of small African tribes innocent of any wrongs done to their captors. The plantations can't survive without the slaves they buy and sell. Consequences of any rebellion, even looking a master in the eyes, can be swift and horrible, even deadly.

Could have ended better
It was a good read, but I do not like the way it ended. I understand what the author was trying to do, but the book ended at an unusual time in the plot. There was not a climax or resolution. Instead, during the center of the plot. Due to this, I will not be purchasing the second book. (This is probably why the book was on sale for .99 cent.

Good story but leave out using our God’s name in van!!
Such a wonderful story.Hard to put book down.I wanted to read forever!! But the book is laced with swear words using God’s name in vain. So regrettably I will not read the aurhor’s books again.I hope the author can find words to emphasize a point without swearing God’s name!!

Lott of history. Some terrifying, unbelievable,heartbreaking,

Oh Wow!
This book was really good and I'm so waiting for the continuation. The author is to be commended for showing that you can write a good book without having to go stupid with erotic sex. I cannot wait for book two.

Very good plot and format, but some serious fundamental errors such as they're in place of their and feint instead of faint, etc.
Recommend to any bigoted white person! Excellent portrayal of the past abominations. I became ph!egmatic at first, but later couldn't put it down.

Trash is as Trash Does
That Dr was trash. Mrs Winters was trash, trash with lesbian tendencies & money. We know the usual tale of Massa screwing the chamber slave, let's see how rest of this turns out. It can't be but so great, it is a slave story..😒

Lost but found!
Alittle difficult at first to follow from present to past. The story was good. Each character's story kept you interested to the end and then it ended! Next in the series!

Good book.
This was a very good book. I love stories of the time before the civil war in the south. Can't wait to start the second book in the series. I would recommend this book to all friends and family members.

Well it’s not Gone With the Wind. But it kept my interest and I kind of like that it’s a short book. It felt like a combination of an old western and a antebellum south book. I will read the next one.

This was a good read but part two and three when you download it are the same book as book one. No contact back from support. I hope the author gets this resolved as I’m sure people are wanting to read parts 2 and 3.
