TO PROTECT THE FUTURE, WHAT WILL WE BECOME? The classic series returns in a reimagining overseen by creator MARC SILVESTRI. In a modern world where humanity is defined by the technology it creates, a terrorist strikes at the heart of human progress. One of the few survivors of the attack is a man named Morgan Stryker. Mortally wounded, Stryker's life is saved by his employers...but the price could be his humanity itself.
A reboot of Cyber Force that also involves Aphrodite. That's where it gets super confusing. I'm not sure what's going on with her involvement. It appears there's also time travel involved. There's potential here, but the storytelling is muddled.
Pretty rad, this was my first Cyberforce book and I really liked it, its a good starting point for new readers, with origin stories and a fresh story arc, plus stunning art style with vibrant colors, Atilio Rojo draws very attractive faces.
Showing the origin of Stryker, Velocity and Aphrodite, this first volume sets up a conflict with Killjoy and a visitor from the future. It flows along at a good pace and the artwork is clear, colourful and well-constructed to make this first volume an enjoyable experience and well worth a look if you’re a fan of superhero comics and/or you’re new to Cyberforce. Fans of the original series will probably enjoy it as well unless they are purists.
An interesting and attractive book this, but certainly not a complete success. The fact that in just four – count 'em – FOUR – issues it goes from a major attack on humanity by one entity, to the creation of a reluctant cyborg, to the birth of AI life to some dodgy timey-wimey future war stuff, shows (a) that a lot is going on here, but mostly (b) that too much is going on here. Meaty issues like these, however hackneyed they've become, deserve to be done well and at a much slower pace than in this book. Sure it's an action comic, but it can't be hyper-kinetic if it wants to discuss such things, and if it wants to be a talky think-piece then it has to forgo some of the death and needless nudity. The other thing from it being so short and curt and concise is that you can't really judge where it's at when this book closes, and what/how much is to come. So I'm not sure how readily I would jump on board for future volumes. But what we get here isn't too bad at all in the visceral entertainment stakes, so I think I'd be back.
This fast read is a good reboot for the Cyber Force universe. It reintroduces the characters and includes Aphrodite too. There is potential for something pretty cool here, but there was little room for it in the first volume which is definitely not a story arc, but an intro for the series.
A mysterious armored woman declares herself the enemy of technology. She starts her crusade against technology by bombing the tech companies she claims are going to destroy humanity. Morgan is a police officer who gets severely wounded in the attack. His daughter Carin signs off on him getting cybernetic implants to save his life. She also replaces her own legs to be able to walk again. Her mistake is revealed to her by her father when they first meet after the procedure - they are to be used as weapons by the company that gave them the enhancements. Their role against the mysterious terrorist will be more important than they think.
This was my first introduction into Cyberforce and I was surprised by how much I enjoyed it. I had heard of it before but never gave it a shot because I was sceptical, but this new re-write hit a lot of the marks that I look for in comic books; badass women, interesting villains, good dialogue, unique artwork... It held my attention. I really like this exploration of human vs technology and humanity having to deal with the consequences of their inventions. I can't speak for any other edition of Cyberforce, but the female characters in this one are bomb and I'm a huge sucker for badass women (hero or villain). I also love the way Velocity and Aphrodite are drawn and it was the first reason why I decided to buy it without knowing anything about this world.
