Richard C Hale has worn many hats in his lifetime including Greens Keeper, Bartender, Musician, Respiratory Therapist, and Veteran Air Traffic Controller. You can usually find him controlling Air Traffic over the skies of the Southeastern U.S. where he lives with his wife and children.
Mr. Hale's writing just seems to get better and better! I was blown away with the first book I read from him several years ago, Frozen Past, and just continue to be in awe of this man! For me to really enjoy a book it has to flow smoothly, the conversations not be jilted, but move along naturally and finally it has to show authenticity, as if the author actually researched the subject matter. I can definitely say that Mr. Hale's writing definitely hits all the high notes on the first two and knocks it out of the ball park with the last!!! Not only has he done the right amount of research, but he makes the reader feel as if you are right there riding shotgun with Jaxon and Ray the whole time. There are few authors who can write as well as Mr. Hale. If you are a fan of the genre, I cannot recommend this author enough! Do yourself a favor and grab one of his books TODAY!
It has been quite a long wait for this latest Jaxon Jennings story from Richard Hale, but it was worth it! Jaxon has rejoined the police force as a homicide detective and is paired up with his long time friend Ray. They are thrust into a complex series of killings of prostitutes with some very strange clues left behind. When Jaxon is shot at on his first day in the job, he knows that he isn't going to have an easy time of it. and it then it gets worse! Links to a case from Jaxon's past start to show up and a tense investigation eventually leads to a very surprising climax to the book. In this book Jaxon character is developed further in this book than it was in the previous books, and we get to see behind the wise-cracks in this genuinely exciting story. I received an advance copy of the book but this honest review has been written voluntarily.
Damaged is a fast-paced mystery thriller in the Jaxon Jennings Detective Mystery Series. This book gripped me from the first page and held on tight as I raced along reading. There is so much happening in this book that I had to pay close attention to all the well-developed characters as they are introduced one after the other.
The author, Richard C. Hale, is a talented writer of mysteries and thrills. He knows how to take hold of his readers and never lets go until the last page. He also tidies everything up in a satisfactory way so there are no loose ends.
I have always been a fan of Hale’s work since his first book and continue to grab each new one as they come. I know that I will be entertained. I avidly look forward to his next book. I highly recommend all his books to anyone who loves a mystery that is fast-paced and exciting.
Jaxon Jennings is back as a Sheriff's detective partnered with his buddy Ray. Damaged is action packed, filled with a variety of plot twists, and a couple of characters from Jaxon's past. This latest Jaxon Jennings thriller is a lot darker and grittier than any of the previous, yet it also provides serious insight into Jaxon's motivations and his humanity. If you have read Mr. Hale's previous books, Damaged is a not to be missed release. If you are new to Mr. Hale's writing or his Jaxon Jennings stories grab this one, it should start you o the road to reading all the previous stories as well. I received an Advance Reader Copy of this book, and chose to provide this review.
With all the people the author thanks, you’d think at least one of them would be honest with him. The stories are getting desperate. Typical of most mediocre writers, this author is more interested in quantity, not quality. Successful series will revisit past characters, not just drop them dead in the water. Or worse, the pathetic use in using Reverb as a totally different character’s pet. Tacky. Impossible to imagine “Vick” as FBI. We are screwed if that’s how they really act. A fifty something year old man out of the game for years being reinstated as a Detective? Come on.
Jaxon Jennings is one of my favorite characters, and I always look forward to the arrival of the next book in the series. Damaged certainly did not disappoint. To call it unputdownable would be an understatement. (plus I've always wanted to use that word in a review :).
If you're familiar with this series, this latest certainly won't disappoint, and you'll enjoy the re-appearance of some old "friends". If you're new to this author, or this series, this may not be the perfect entry point. Read the whole series - you won't regret it!
In this breathtaking novel, Detective Jaxon Jennings and his partner Ray take on the case where prostitutes are being killed. Though evidence is left at each crime scene, it leads nowhere. The killer is very smart and Jaxon soon learns that people from his past are somehow tied to the increasing deaths. Well written and very suspenseful with a shocking ending. Highly recommend.
I always enjoy books by this author; good characters (although, as a kidless-by-choice career woman, I'll admit I fast-forward through the kid blather), engaging plots, believable dialogue, and endings that always satisfy. More than once, I've found myself determined to read for only an hour or two, only to find that -- once again -- it's 2am and I'm still burning through chapters. You won't regret the time or money spent!
Very unusual for a Jaxon Jennings book bus this was quite hard going and confusing....don't know why as the other 6 books in the series had me gripped from the first couple of sentences but it took me until chapter 20 and nearly a week of persevering to finish the book....Will try again in a couple of months too see if my opinion changes ......
I really like this series. The characters from past books are back again, and while their lives have changed, Jaxon is his usual self, breaking rules, breaking heads and doing whatever it takes to catch a serial killer. I always look forward to any of Richard Hale's books. They're fast, fun reads.
I started this series with Traffic. After finishing it I had to go back and start with book 1. Bought them all on the same day. Just finished Dead Last and cannot wait until Viral comes out on the 27th of March. I have pre ordered. If your looking for a good mystery/thriller detective series you cannot go wrong reading Jaxon Jennings series. Mr. Hale keep them coming.
Damaged is a wonderful story. It is well written and impossible to put down until you get to the surprising end. There is excitement, suspense and even a bit of romance. Jaxon Jennings is a character you have to respect so you easily get pulled into the story. If you like detective stories you’ll get hooked on the Jaxon Jennings novels.
Wow! This book really keeps you guessing! Just when you think you have it figured out, another switcheroo happens. Awesome writing, I can't recommend it enough. NB I received a complimentary copy of this book, but I always give an HONEST review based wholly on my own opinions
Another great Jaxon Jennings book by Richard C Hale. Great characters and interesting story line once again. I have thoroughly enjoyed each book from this series that I have read.
Again, Great book!!! The ending is unbelievable! You need to start with book #1 and read each one. I have ordered the next 2 books & can't wait to read them!
