Nadia was always destined for a career in illustration—as a child, she would doodle on her exercise books, while as a student she would doodle on her law degree notes. Then, when working as a journalist in London for pop music bible Smash Hits, she would doodle all the time on anything. The good people at Smash Hits didn’t fire her for doodling furry animals - instead they let her leave early to go to evening classes in illustration.
This was followed by a MA at the prestigious Anglia Ruskin University. Drawing and writing for a living is very much Nadia’s dream come true and we expect great things from this promising new author and illustrator.
This picturebook is charming, adorable and funny, and it also has a really lovely message about choosing your own identity and being who you want to be, not who other people think you are (or should be). It appealed to both my 3-year-old and my 7-year-old, and I loved it, too.
3.5 stars. Cute story about a bear who disguises himself as a bee to get closer to their honey stores, the discovers that he actually quite likes going to bee school, practising buzzing and flying around flowers. Cute illustrations and a storyline that raised a few giggles from the three-year-old I read it to!
This book has a lovely message about how there is a place for everyone and that everyone is good at different things. At first Norman doesn’t fit in but then something happens and he is seen as a hero who has a special job to do! It also promotes everyone being different, a lovely story to share with a class.
Very sweet and funny tale of a bear going to bee school to get to the honey, with lovely illustrations. Little guy loved it too. Full marks for this one!
I love this story and the message it tells. It really brings across the sense of being different and trying to fit in to be just like everyone else. Norman the bear desperately wants to be a bee. It explains that it’s okay to be different and you shouldn’t have to be a particular mould to fit in. Lovely story about friendships and loyalty with great witty details.
Great story about identity to share with a younger class. Lovely spread page of Bee School planner that could be used to show the day and timings of a school day. Can they create their own Daily planner along with times?
A very quick and fun book which displays how someone needs to fit in with a different group. This book could be a great way for children to make up different noun phrases which make sense. This book is perfect for the target audience of reception and year 1 children
great for a whole class lesson story time or even just little groups, would relate well to RE and British value tolerance as well as accepting others and internal and external differences and similarities
This book has been given to every reception child in the uk this year by the Booktrust. Brilliant story, great pictures, the children I have shared this book with have really loved it
I loved this book! It portrays such a good message that they’re is always a place for everyone and even though you’re not the same it makes you stand out and makes you unique
