William Shatner played the part of Captain Wirz in an American made-for-TV drama and was given something of s sympathetic portrayal. The evil done to him as a scapegoat for the horror that was Andersonville has still not been righted, though a plate in this excellent book displays the monument erected to him as a Confederate hero.
