About the author

Balakumaran was born in Pazhamarneri village near Thirukattupalli in Thanjavur district in 1946. As a child, he was highly inspired by his mother, who was a Tamil scholar and a Siromani in Sanskrit, used verses of Sangam and other ancient literature to motivate him when ever he was emotionally down. This created a deep interest in Tamil literature which made literature his passion. His first stories were published in a literary magazine called ‘Ka-Sa-Da-Tha-Pa-Ra’ and for which he was also a founding member, a self-anointed militant literary journal that had been launched with a mission to blaze new trails in modernist literature.

He has also contributed to Tamil periodicals such as Kalki, Ananda Vikatan, Saavi and Kumudam. Later he became a famous Tamil writer, author of over 200 novels, 100 short stories, and dialogue/screenplay writer for over 14 films. His writings are noted for a distinct philosophical and religious tone. He is fondly called 'Ezhuthu Sithar' by his fans. He is a disciple of "Sri Yogi Ram Surath Kumar".

In his many novels he shows immense interest in enlightenment. He is considered as "Maanasiga Guru" for many individuals, who are in search of the formless almighty. His lucid but powerful expressions of man-woman relationship and human-God union is a tribute to mankind.

வாழ்க்கையின் விசித்திரதன்மைக்கு எடுத்துக்காட்டு இந்த புத்தகம். முடிந்துவிட்டதாக நினைக்கும் போது புது மலர்ச்சியை கொடுக்கிறது, நிறைவாக உணரும் போது சருக்கலை உண்டாக்குகிறது வாழ்க்கை.

கணவன் இறந்த பிறகு சில வருடங்களில் ஒருவாறாக தேறி தந்தையின் வற்புறுத்தலுக்காக சமுதாயத்தை தைரியமாக எதிர் கொண்டு திருமண வாழ்க்கையில் திளைக்கும் போது முதல் கணவன் உயிரோடு முன் வந்தால் எப்படியிருக்கும்??

தன் அனுவனுவாய் நேசிக்கும் அல்லது பொக்கிஷமாக கருதும் கணவரை வேறு ஒரு பெண் காதலிப்பது தெரியவரும் போது அந்த பெண்ணின் மனநிலை எவ்வாறு இருக்கும்?

எப்படியோ மாதம் ஒரு பாலகுமாரன் புத்தகம் படிக்க நேர்கிறது எனக்கு..வரம் என்று தான் சொல்ல வேண்டும். வாழ்க்கையின் எதார்த்தத்தை,மனித மனதின் எதார்த்தத்தை,உண்மையை ஒவ்வொரு முறையும் அழகாக எளிமையாக,மனதை மிகவும் அழகாக நெருடும் வகையில் எழுதுவது இவரால் மட்டும் தான் முடியும்.

“அகல்யா”-இளம் விதவையாக அறிமுகமாகி தனக்கான துணையை கண்டறிந்து,மீண்டும் திருமணம் செய்து கொள்கிறாள்.அதன் பின் அவள் வாழ்க்கை எப்படி நகர்கிறது என்பது தான் கதை. “சிவசு”-என் மனம் கவர்ந்த ஆண் கதாபாத்திரங்களில் சிவசுக்கு நிச்சயம் முதலிடம் உண்டு. “காதலை” மிகவும் complicate செய்துவிட்ட இந்த காலகட்டத்தில் சிவசுவின் காதல் மொழி மனதை நெகிழ வைக்கிறது.

எல்லாம் இனிமேல் சரியாகத் தான் போகும்,இதற்கு பின் என் வாழ்க்கையில் எல்லாமே சுபம் தான் என்று எண்ணும் தருவாயில் விதி தன் விளையாட்டை காட்டும்.அப்படி ஒரு விதியால் கதையில் திடீர் திருப்பம். அத்தனைக்கு மத்தியிலும் ஒரு காதல்..ஒரு அழகான காதல் மனதை மிகவும் பாதிக்கிறது,ரசிக்கவும் வைக்கிறது.

மனித உளவியல் தெரிந்த ஒருவரால் தான் இப்படியொரு கதையை படைக்க இயலும்.

நம் அனைவருக்குமே எண்ணற்ற கனவுகள்,கற்பனைகள்,ஆசைகள்,எதிர்ப்பார்ப்புகள்,லட்சியங்கள் இருக்கத்தான் செய்கிறது.இவைகள் தான் மனித இயல்புகள் என்றாலும் அதற்கு எதிர்மறையாக எது நடந்தாலும் புத்திக்கு எட்டினாலும் மனம் ஏற்க மறுக்கும்.
ஆழ்ந்து சிந்தித்தால் மட்டுமே எதுவுமே நிரந்தரமில்லை என்ற நிதர்சனம் புலப்படும்.இது புரிந்துவிட்டால் வாழ்க்கையை கையாளுவது சுலபம்.

வாழ்வில் பல கற்றும் அதன் வழியில் வரும் சவால்களை எதிர்கொள்ளும் திராணியற்றவளாய் இருக்கும் கதாநாயகியை ஏற்றுக்கொள்ள மனம் விரும்பவில்லை…. சிவசு வாழ்வின் யதார்த்தங்களை உரைத்தாலும் காதல் மீதான அவனது பார்வையும் ஏற்புடையதாய் இல்லை…
ஆயினும் ஆசிரியரின் தொய்வின்றிய நடை… சமூகத்தின் மீதான மிகைப்படுத்தப்படாத பார்வைகள்… விதவை மறுமணம் பற்றிய சரியான புரிதல் கதையினை இரசிக்கச்செய்கிறது.

ஒரு விதவையின் மறு மணம் , அவள் வாழ்க்கையில் சந்திக்கும் சிவசு, அவனின் பின்புலம்,அவளின் லட்சியமான பள்ளிக்கூடம் , இதை சுற்றி பாலாவின் பின்னல்கள். கொஞ்சம் சினிமாத்தனம் தூக்கலாக இருக்கோ என்று எண்ண வைக்கும் சில பக்கங்கள். அகல்யா, சாரு மற்றும் வத்சலா குறித்து எடுக்கும் முடிவுகள் அவளின் கதாபாத்திர சறுக்கல்களா அல்லது பெண்களின் மனோநிலைமையா

Balakumaran’s writing style was amazing. The story and its concept could have been way better though. Glad that this audiobook was just about 3 hours. May be I would still recommend this book? Yes.. No.. Not sure! Meh!

பாலகுமாரன் எழுதிய புத்தகங்களில் இதுவே என் முதல் புத்தகம். வாழ்வியலை சித்தரிக்கும் விதம் இருவருக்கு என்று தனித்துவமாக அடையாளம் காணும் அளவில் அவர் எழுத்துக்கள் உள்ளன.‌ கதை மாந்தர்கள் சிவசு மற்றும் அகல்யா இரு வேறு துருவங்கள். அகல்யா மறுமணம் செய்து கொண்டவர் தான் சிவசு. எல்லாம் இனிதே ஆரம்பம் என்று என்னும் நேரத்தில் அவர்கள் வாழ்வில் நடுவே வர நினைக்கும், தான் இறந்ததாக நினைத்த கணவனின் வருகை. தன் உயிரினும் மேலாக காதலித்து வந்த சிவசுக்கு அவர்கள் நடத்திய பள்ளியில் ஒரு பெண் மீது தோன்றும் எண்ணங்கள் என தொடக்கமே முடிவாய்... முடிவே தொடக்கமாய் ஒரு வட்டம் போல் மையத்தை தோடாமலே மையல்களை பாலகுமாரன் அய்யா கொண்டு சென்றது எனக்கு மிகவும் பிடித்த பாடல்கள் சிலவற்றையும் அள்ளி தெளித்து விட்டார்.
