There is something to be said about using a bigger bat
The galaxy is getting a little crowded, especially when everyone is fighting. Sometimes the wrong people get into power for all the wrong reasons.
Sara is a power that can not be stopped... She will make herself known to any who are determined to snuff out her people, and they will know the wrath of a War Mage.
Come join Sara and Cora as they continue to wrestle the galaxy into submission.
This time however they could be poking a bear too big to fight...
The Teifen are making swift work of the Elif and their weaker Empire, and the humans may not be able to do anything about it. This is a time to keep your head down, but Humans are not known for keeping out of everyone's business.
This is the second book in the War Mage Chronicles. Be sure to start the journey with Genesis War Mage: Book One.
This is the second book in *The War Mage Trilogy.* The first book of the trilogy is * Genesis.* I really enjoyed this fun, light-hearted, yet exciting space opera with high fantasy elements. Like the first book, the main characters are "War Mages," a type of "aetherically-sensitive" mage-warrior unique to the human race (a kind of racial secret weapon). Humanity is caught between a interplanetary war with the decadent "Tiefen" (space Tieflings), and the enigmatic "Elif" (space Elves). The first novel was about the War Mage, Captain Sara Sonders, who is probing and developing her new powers and coming to understand her relationship with her familiar, Alistair (a cat). This second novel introduces a second War Mage, Isabel Boon, whose shy and hesitant personality is at odds with her growing power and aetheric potential. There is also a new concept introduced: "bonding." War Mages can rely upon magically-bonded guardians who help keep them safe from overextending their power (these guardians--Baxter and Gonders--become important in the story). The first two thirds novel, more atmosphere and skullduggery involving political conspiracy, set up an epic conclusion: a giant space battle and an assault on a massive dreadnought-class ship. This series doesn't aspire to be anything other than an entertaining new pulp sci-fi spectacle. On that level, it succeeds.
Interesting developments after book 1. Always fascinating to witness how authors work with earth mythology to give a sense of realism, or at very least of possibility. More great battle scenes. Story well paced. Though it would be interesting to learn more about the characters. Too much detail would drag it down. So I guess we get to look forward to more story. For example, what are things really like for Cora? How are her circumstances changing heutqmz 2F
Great read. This tale was easy to read and the universe very understandable. I love Sara's attitude of if it is in the way just beat the tar out of it till it's not. She's not trying to ask anyone for permission to do what she knows needs doing although she does try to take in others considerations. A cat lover myself it was easy to relate to her familiar, as all cat lovers know you do not train the cat they train you. Looking forward to the next in series.
Good series so far. The humans are just learning of war mages... And their power. Their enemies, however, are not waiting and set traps to find and ensnare humanity. This second book in the war mages chronicles humans relearning about war mages and the tech that goes with them. Everyone , it seems, is against the humans and their back is against the wall... But that when we do our best work.. Looking forward to more books.
Book 2 carries straight on with its fast paced syorytellling, Sara and Cora continue to fight for humanity I like the wsy the author is sneaking in some of Earths legends and putting a of a twist on it.
A great second story in this amazing war mage series. Three war mages, two familiars, and two bonded companions against thousands of vessels in the enemy fleet. What could go wrong? Read this and see. 😉
Sara and Cora are growing in their skills, and just in time! Earth has officially joined the war, and things are hot. We learn a little more about humanity’s hidden history, and the heat is turned up.
This book almost ended on the DNF list. I found parts of it quite hokey and again, the military culture part of the story is distractingly bad. That said, I really like the whole War Mage concept and the final battle scenes/action was very entertaining. Enough so, that I wanted to finish the book and move on to the last entry in trilogy.
Right after the first book I started reading the second! I am enjoying the story more and more as I read on. I love the characters developments as well as the “love” going on I am already starting to read the third and final book and am excited to read on!
We have new war mages battling to save humanity. We have different villains and not to sure who our friends are but it looks the new kids on the block will save the day.
Excellent second book in the series. Everything the first one promised, and more. No scifi or fantasy fan should miss this series, go get your own copy, and read it, you won't be disappointed.
