An ancient evil is rising. Only the Embers can stand against it.
But for centuries, their powers have been fading, and few of the flame-wielding warriors remain to push back the darkness. With the terrors of the night threatening to destroy all they hold dear, the Embers will risk everything as they venture to their ancestral lands and attempt to solve a mystery at the heart of a bitter war.
They are the last lights against the darkness. Now, the time has come to see how bright their fire truly burns.

Valley of Embers: A very well written and captivating story. Haven't been this unable to put a book down since I read The Eye of the World more than a decade ago. It actually reminds me a lot of that title in regards of structure and storytelling. Anyway, I'm glad I got this randomly and have already bought the 4th book.
There are lots of new concepts in this fantasy. The author does a good job of introducing a fresh mythos into what is basically a good against evil saga. The heroes are not always right, the Eastern Dark is not always wrong. There is pain as well as triumph. Loss is as much a part of victory as winning. The only reason this isn’t a five star review is the proof reading sometimes went wrong. Between wrong words and overuse of other words the reader can be knocked out of the story. Which is too bad as it is a a solid, satisfying story.
I really like the idea that people are blessed with powers from the world. It is an amazing concept that i can't help but fantasize about in my day-to-day life. The plot turned completely around and that was a shock as i thought i had the story figured out. I would recommend this to all my friends that live this genre
I can't believe I read the whole thing. Yep - all three volumes only to find out there is a volume 4. I found the fantasy intriguing. The plot moved along smoothly for the most part. Having another volume will hopefully bring some closure to the events. Overall I enjoyed the story. I found some elements very interesting and involving. I do have issues with two elements that I felt detracted from the story.
First, I feel like the author extends description and detail almost to the point of being distracting. I cannot put my finger on it but it just felt like he rambled at times. Some of the description and narrative could have been more concise. This is an epic story but I felt it could have been told more succinctly..Also, at times, I felt he did not adequately support some of the elements in the story. This is fantasy and he created elements unique to his realm. But, while characters were developed, as the story progressed I would have liked a little more background when they are first introduced to frame them a little better. Personalities and natures did get fleshed out but there were gaps for me that left things hanging.
The other thing that distracted me was the use of a name, a kind, a title and origins when describing events. All were interwoven but the author using them interchangeably confused me particularly when there were passages involving several characters at the same time and each was referred to by different terms.
Overall I liked the books. I felt the characters and elements where well constructed but since they were unique I would have liked them better introduced. Once I got to know the types and personalities I was comfortable with the story.
Have just finished reading the third book in this series which is what a real epic fantasy saga should be like. A war between sages ends up being a war fought by the people and we get to see the powers all the different Landkist people are endowed with. The battle scenes are fantastic and really epic, the characters of the heroes are very charismatic and those of the villains are really vile. The descriptions in the books bring every area we have visited to life be it the forest or the desert or the home of the people of the lost lake and hearth. I love Kelliher's style of writing as he bothers to go into detail to bring the story to life! This is a series not to be missed where the fight of good against evil rages right through the whole set of books!
Mediocre in every respect. Main problem for me was lack of any meaningful character development, and there is way to many of them. I didn't really connect with any of them for those reasons. Writing and world building is just fine, nothing particularly good or bad. This is a forgettable series, if you skip it you won't miss much.
This series is exactly how epic fantasy should be written. The characters are distinct and diverse and the world building has been well constructed. I look forward to reading the next installment in this series.
