Cumple su cometido. Es un estudio cuantitativo del desarrollo capitalista, del que para da una opinión más completa tendría que entrar en lo verosímil de las estimaciones -ir a las fuentes primarias. A lo sumo, puedo opinar sobre el tratamiento de los datos. Las explicaciones teóricas son simples, como lo son las que hace del pensamiento de otros autores. Ahora bien, no hay que perder de vista que el objeto del libro es el estudio empírico, y que éstas están en la medida en que son necesarias. Sea como fuere, Maddison no está en el podio por nada: es un trabajo esforzado y, sobre todo, honesto.
