Violence is like a storm. For Lucas Cole, life is more than he could have ever hoped for. Daily Muay Thai training sessions with his best friend, a progressive career as a mechanic and married to Helen, the love of his life. All of it comes to an end on a rainy Saturday night in London. When Helen is ripped from the world by the notorious Drayton family on a visit to the capital and the police, including the prodigal Officer Starling, do little to bring them to justice, Lucas sets out to put things right himself. As the body count rises and the ripple effects of the escalating violence reach further than he could have imagined, Lucas has to confront his dark past, his continuous grief, a nationwide police hunt and, of course, the Draytons... One by One is a revenge thriller like no other and will take you to a place where betrayal, retribution and vengeance are the only currency. Lovers of The Punisher and Man on Fire will love this amazing, exciting and gripping novel.

The start of One By One is pretty Gripping stuff and then, which this is my only issue with this book is that it did seem to take it's time to really get going, but once it did, boy what a book!
Right from the start the reader knows something awful has happened to Helen, Lucas' wife. It just takes a while before we get to know what actually did happen to her. As soon as we know though the story really picks up pace and I was well and truly hooked.
Lucas's story is one that does make the reader think about what they would do if they were in the same situation as him, would we take matters into our own hands or would we leave it to the police?
Lucas and Helens relationship is a very solid one and apart from friends and Helens sister, Helen literally is Lucas's world. You can really feel his pain and loss throughout the story and I have to say I was a bit of an emotional wreck by the end.
The Drayton family, even though very much dominated by Curtis one of the siblings, the one sister and the other brothers are all as bad as each other. At least now with Lucas on their trail the tables have been totally over turned and now it is their turn to feel some of the pain and fear that their victims have had to go through.
One By One really is not a book for the faint hearted. I really am not a big fan of violence and this book has quite a lot in it. If I was to watch this story on television I would have been turning my face away as I would not have been able to watch certain parts but as the story is in the form of a book I had no choice but to carry on and read.
One By One is a tale of love, loss and revenge. It is a dark and gripping read that challenges the readers thoughts and emotions and above all else a blooming good read.
Many thanks to the author for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I think this would make a fantastic movie! The entire time I was reading the novel I was casting the different characters in my head. A Sam Worthington would make a Awesome Lucas! One by One is a gut wrenching revenge book that has you rooting for the Vigilante. The characters are so well developed I felt like I knew them and I was heartbroken, angered and revolted right there with them. I ultimately found myself cheering when vigilante justice was dished out. The only reason One by One did not get a 5 was I found it to be a little slow at times. Even though that ultimately just built into more character development (which is spot on) I wanted the action to keep going. One By One isn't the typical novel I read, however I would highly recommend it to anyone who likes vigilante justice novels....Sara
Wow! A superb combination of graphic violence and moral dilemma which is equally very emotional in places. Plenty of twists and turns - some shockingly good and while its certainly not everyone's cup of tea, if you like gritty revenge thrillers, then do not pass this one by. Very highly recommended!!
A story of violence and vengeance. Pretty graphic in places but a cracking tale of one man's grief taking him to dark places and a catalogue of violent, tortuous deaths. Not for the faint-hearted.
Firstly, this book moved me so much, I can't find the words to describe this.. You have to read it to know my meaning. I wondered why the first 8% of the book was so intense, building the characters, and you get a glimpse of the control the main character instilled in his life. Then the horror exploded and so we were led on a pulsating, heart breaking path with a man on a vengeful mission , consuming the reader right to the end. It is one of THE best books I've ever read. I found my heart aching when I wasn't reading it...it really had that affect. The but though is due to the grammar mistakes. When I'm reading a book, I want it flow and if a comma isn't where it should be or there's the odd spelling mistake, it's annoying. I had to repeat sentences which you shouldn't have to do. I normally would take a mark off my star rating but, because the story, plot and characters were so compelling and utterly believable, even the sadistic Dayton Family, I just had to give the full 5.
If you can remember the movie Death Wish you have a rough idea of the story of this book. Lucas Cole's wife is kidnapped, raped and then stabbed to death and Lucas spends the rest of the book exacting violent and bloody revenge over those responsible. The story certainly keeps you gripped from beginning to end and I always hoped that Lucas would get his revenge. I feel sure that this story would make an excellent movie and I wish the author every success in his future writing.
Fantastic book, It brought home to me just how a person, any person would do if the love of their life was taken from them. If they had the ability and strength that Lucas had. To the book itself, a journey into a nightmare World of terror and brutal violence. It made me cry for Lucas and Helen. Organised Gangs, who live in a totally different violent world from Mr and Mrs everyday. Driven by drugs, greed and a need for power, this story embodies every emotion possible. Fab
Explosive After an unspeakable crime, dealt horrifically on his wife, Lucas Coles’s grief takes him down a dark revengeful path to Londons’ most dangerous, vicious family who think they are invincible. Until the family members meet Lucas. Robert Enright’s description of the characters which built up from the start of the book carrying on all the way through the novel left me feeling emotionally battered, bruised and in tears. Enright’s writing skills knows no boundaries even when it comes to the age old conflict of the law versus an eye for an eye.
This book was great. The only downside finding out Helen dies right at the start. It made me wait for the moment and i think it would've been better if you found out further along in the book. Lucas as a character you really feel for. I didn't feel sorrow for the people he killed.
What a fantastic book. So well written and worthy of the five stars. There was lots of action and lots of heartbreak. I have never read a book quite like this. So many of my emotions were triggered. To the author. Robert Enright, well done you have taken me, as a reader, on an emotional roller coaster ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This book wss full of emotion for me. I rarely cry when reading, but this book brought tears to my eyes. The brutality of Lucas' revenge was more than justified and I was in his corner. Once you start reading it's hard to put down, but I highly recommend reading this book.
I read this book in just under four hours, what a brilliant read, I think every emotion a person can feel was expertly delivered, I am looking forward to purchasing more books by this author, I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys a really good book
Every man who reads this book will recognise the feelings of the hero of this story. Whether you agree or disagree with his actions as a bloke I can relate to how it would make me feel if the love of my life was used and killed in this way. For me he was right.
I didn’t know what to expect after reading all of the Sam Pope series but what a great read this was. I loved Lucas and his family and friends ... but what I loved most was his vengeance.
Excellent book. I had trouble putting this down. A man who has so much determination and strength. He is doing so much damage to a family that he cannot forgive. Yet you want him to do it . Brilliant.
A variant on Enright's Sam Pope series. Avenged husband with a dark past sets off on a killing spree to bring those responsible for his wife's pointless death to count. Enjoyed the book, just took a while to get going.
If I could give this book more than 5 stars I would. The plot line was superb I felt as though I was there watching the story unfold. I have read a few of the authors other books and this one did not disappoint. I would recommend this highly.

An 'eye for an eye' progresses into a hard-core reality in this superbly-written crime revenge thriller. Debut author, Robert Enright, delivers a powerful, edge-of-your-seat read with peaks and lulls in just the right places. This author is off to a pretty incredible start in his career with this first novel.
Seldom do I feel such a strong level of emotional involvement in a fictional tale where I'm still thinking of the characters and their stories days after finishing a book, and experience an ultra-heightened sense of loss. I believe they call it a 'book hangover' in book reviewers circles. But this one just did it for me. I felt every bit of pain and anger Lucas Cole felt. Knowing his style of vigilante justice is wrong didn't matter. I rooted for him anyway. And all the other characters in the novel are full of depth as their own backgrounds and stories are unveiled in a truly skillful manner.
Throughout the entire experience, I kept thinking how this book would make an amazing movie. Hopefully, the author has some knowledge of how to make this happen because it undoubtedly would be a blockbuster with the right casting. I imagine the role of Lucas would be a very coveted one as well.
Excellent read and I can't recommend it high enough! Hope to hear more from this extremely talented author soon.
‘One by One’ is a book that will keep you holding your breath and siding with the murderer and not the murdered (which is quite backwards compared to most!). Robert Enright has written a blinding crime book which also has a romantic base-line. The way in which he has written this story is incredible and really pulls you in to the characters lives.
Enright managed to evoke many emotions throughout ‘One by One’ and I did feel myself getting a little choked up in parts. He’s written with sensitivity that truly makes you feel connected, you feel the range of emotions that Lucas goes through and it takes a very talented writer to make that happen!
My only reason for the four heart rating is because I did feel that it was a little too longwinded in the beginning. That being said, as soon as the pace picked up in ‘One by One’ it didn’t slow down and kept you turning the pages! A truly brilliant read!
