Just when you thought you knew the whole story…Once upon a time (isn't that how a fairy tale is supposed to start?), there was a sheriff who was brought to a town full of fairies to keep the naïve fairy queen in check. His abilities could crush her life in an instant. Dylan Riggs was recruited by the Sanhedrin to keep daily watch of the exiled fairy queen known as Grace Ann Bryant. They sold him a fairy tale of a town full of fairies where he could settle down and produce an heir. However, from the moment Dylan Riggs walked into town he made mistake after mistake. He found himself entangled with a dangerous and selfish fairy queen. His daily reminder that he made the wrong choice taunted him as his “partner” on supernatural cases. How did he shed the consequences of his mistakes to find himself with the only woman he has ever loved? What sacrifices were required to keep her safe as she plodded around oblivious to the danger lurking around her life? Will Dylan get his Happily Ever After ?Moonshine in a Mason Jar is Dylan Rigg’s story. You just thought you knew everything about Shady Grove’s Phoenix Sheriff. From the day he walks into Shady Grove until the days following his birthday party, Dylan’s story comes to light in this book. Moonshine is about finding the truth and realizing it isn’t always what you thought it was. Kimbra Swain’s Fairy Tales of a Trailer Park Queen continues with Book 6, Moonshine in a Mason Jar. This fresh take on the world of fairies is a sassy, Southern Urban Fantasy. The next book, Hotter Than Blue Blazes, will be released in late June.
From early in life Kimbra Swain was indoctrinated in the ways of geekdom. Raised on Star Wars, Tolkien, Superheroes and Voltron, she found herself immersed in a world of imagination. She started writing in high school, and completed her English degree from the University of Alabama in 2003. Her writing is influenced by a gamut of authors including Jane Austen, J.R.R. Tolkien, L.M. Montgomery, Timothy Zahn, Kathy Reichs, Kevin Hearne and Jim Butcher. Born and raised in Alabama, Kimbra still lives there with her husband and 5 year old daughter. When she isn't reading or writing, she plays PC games, makes jewelry and builds cars.

3.5 stars. While it was interesting to see Grace and many events prior to book one of the series from Dylan's POV, I thought it overall detracted from the flow of the series. Part of it might be that I've never loved Dylan as much as other people, however I don't hate him. Anyway, after the cliffhanger in book 5, I'm eager to get to book 7. More so after reading this, as now my heart is broken a bit more. Anyway, okay book, but I was more eager to get through it for the necessary backstory than anything else.
I really liked this one. I liked getting Dylan's take on the start of the relationship and although when other authors do this a lot of it is repeated this one wasn't. Dylan knew he loved Grace but because of her sentence each time she feel for him or worked out the truth her mind was wiped. Dylan was starting to give up when he got his opening. His feeling came across and you couldn't help but feel sorry for him.

This whole series is one of my favorites. This particular book is from the male perspective. Normally, I don't care for those type books. Primarily because they are essentially a recap of everything that has already happened! But happily, in THIS book, there is none of that! We find out lots of useful info that we had no clue about before! Yay! And also, we learn quite a few things that had ALREADY happened, that we DIDN'T know about because ....spoiler. Sorry, I don't do those.
Again, another amazing book in this awesome series. Can't wait for more!!
I have to admit it. I love Dylan but I’m super and always have been a sucker for Levi. This book definitely broke things down and shined lights on situations that softened me a lot towards Dylan. This book was chock full of Dylan- his struggles. His feats. His fears and it endeared me towards him. I chuckled at the last line “hotter than blue blazes” which I’m eagerly awaiting. I’m nervous because I love Levi, and I wish Grace could have them both but she loves Dylan so much.. Kimbra said this book will give you answers but maybe not the answers you want and it was true but in true Swain fashion, this series continues to unravel. When you pick it up you expect a pretty general plot. Girl is a queen. Girl loves guy. Girl saves her world. But with every new book, and especially this one, I’m baffled by just how complex her story and plotting actually are. You pull one string and unravel the rest and it becomes this delicious pile of intrigue spaghetti that you can’t wait to slurp up and enjoy. I love this series, these characters and this author. I recommend it to anyone who will listen.
When Grace finds out what those nearest and dearest to her have been purposely hiding from her for all this time, I guaran-damn-tee you that the shit is really going to hit the fan. Really! Personally, while I can understand the need to clarify "reality" for the reader in some fashion, I did not enjoy the method chosen. I frequently found myself struggling to remember details from Grace's perceived experiences as I tried to reconcile them with Dylan's alternate reality presented here. I personally did not enjoy being forced into that position and hope this methodology will not be utilized in the future. Especially when you end the prior book with the hope that the wedding has a chance of actually happening... Then you time travel us all over the place and do your damnedest to confuse the hell out of us! I am not a happy reader and hope to see this nonsense stop or i will desert this universe, despite the enjoyment it gave me prior to this unwelcome and unappreciated interlude.
I’m not usually a fan of hearing a story told from a different perspective, but I’m invested in this series, so I went with it. This was unique and it was done it a way that I wasn’t feeling like I was reading the same thing over again.
I loved hearing more of Dylan and what was going on in his mind all the years before with him and Grace and Stephanie.
Seeing both Dylan and Grace grow has been an epic journey, I cannot wait for the rest of the books.
What Dylan did for Winnie was brave and sad. I can’t wait for him to come back.

I don't really think this should have been a book, maybe a novella. She basically told the story from Dylan's point of view and the revelations were far less than earth shattering. Nothing we found out was really like "oh my gosh". I mean these were all things easily deduced. The writing was good, she has come a long way from the first book but I feel like this was a waste of my time. Don't get ,e wrong I am gonna read the next story because it will be in the present but this one could have been summarized like I said into a novella 30 pages or less.
This was a nice farewell for Dylan. It was kind of a flash back reel of his time in Shady Grove. You get his perspective and not all the same things you've read before. I usually am not a big POV reader b/c it is usually all the same information with just a little something new. This book was more new information. So I appreciate that. I've also been team Levi for a while now, so here's hoping. Lol
I usually hate it when an author Estella a story from another characters perspective. This tale is an exception. The story is told from multiple viewpoints and throws new lights on the interactions between Dylan and Grace along with stories and details that were only hinted at previously. The tale is about people not battles and magic and all the better for it. I am looking forward t too reading the next installment of this trilogy within a series.
Beautiful story! Fills in a lot of gaps and backstory from Dylan's POV. The trials and tribulations this man experienced were daunting. He couldn't get out of the way of Jeremiah or himself. You walk away respecting the sandy-haired sheriff so much more. Even Levi experiences an awakening of sorts. Great read!
Love this series and this book doesn't disappoint was slightly gutted to begin when I realised I would not be starting where the last book finished but it was too good to put down and definitely worth a look back before going forward it explains so much love it!!!
Dont usually like the replay bioks but this was so good
Normally i hate the retell it from somepne elses point of veiw but this book had so mich in it from behind the scenes to answers to lingering questions that it fely fresh an new an alive. I love Dylan more now lmao and Levi too
One of the difficulties I've had with this series is that there is a lot of history between the characters that we did not understand.
Moonshine in a Mason Jar is a deep dive on the characters we love (and some we hate). It brings the whole story together. I feel it was a very brave undertaking by Kimbra but it works incredibly well.
This is Dylan's story, how things were from his side. This one will explain many things left up in the air, some or most of the hows and whys. Jeremiah really is a snake, in my opinion, the things he did to control Grace are unconscionable. I highly recommend this book and am off to begin the next in series.
This series is amazing! The characters and settings are wonderful and I have not been able to stop reading since I discovered it. This would make an amazing TV series!
If you like fantasy in modern time I think you will like to these stories. I like also everything about the stories; the characters, the action, everything. Can't wait to dig into the next one.
The story from Dylan's perspective is a new twist. It made me fall in love with him just a little more. I spent the day reading Gully Washer and Moonshine back to back. I will forever have a soft spot in my heart for Dylan, Grace and their kingdom of exiles.
I really enjoy the creativity of a Fairy Queen based on Alabama, and the story has great humor. I just can’t get past the typos! So many fragment sentences and “of” instead of “in”, it details me from the story time and again.
The last book was a hard one! ( oiler here). Way too sad! And this one was a nice break from all the heartbreak. It tells a story we've already heard, but from a different POV.. Slow it all down a bit! Good read, but must-read the others first!
Love the genre - thought I'd take a look at this series. It was interesting - I liked the premise and could see the writing develop. I'm getting a sense of the characters, and I'm looking forwards to the next installment!
This book is mostly just a repetition of books 1-5. There is a little bit of new information but not enough if you read books 1-5. I would highly recommend this book if you hadn’t read 1-5 but not for any other reason.
I don't care for prequels so I wasn't thrlled with the storyline. The author is so very good I still read this in one sitting. Eagerly awaiting the next book!
This book tells bits of the story from the other characters point of view, and fills in parts of events alluded to in the other books. I like this series.
