Anytime I have the chance to read another book by Beth Carpenter, I jump at the chance. Her characters are always well-defined and warm – including the state of Alaska which is a supporting character to this series (and appears warm-hearted in spite of the frigid temps). The breathtaking scenery is easy to grasp hold of with the imagination, and it only fuels my #lifegoal of visiting Alaska.

Another thing I love about Carpenter’s stories is the way her love of dogs shines through in the furry supporting characters she includes in each novel. In An Alaskan Proposal, Tal and Boomer – and their adorable friendship – completely stole the show. Carpenter gives dogs (these two in particular) the kind of human-like personalities that true dog owners know their pets possess and I grinned besottedly every time Tal & Boomer were on the page.

Speaking of grinning besottedly… Leith. I am not an outdoorsperson in any way, shape or (especially) form, yet Leith had me swooning all the same. From his can’t-help-himself dazzling grin to his big heart to his love for his family (including his precocious niece Emma) to the way he teaches kids first aid, I can easily see why Sabrina fell for him. And, in spite of her 1st-season-of-Friends-version-of-Rachel-Greene outward appearance, there’s a lot more to Sabrina on the inside and I can easily see why Leith falls so hard for her in spite of himself. In fact, Sabrina became my favorite character in the story (besides the dogs, of course) for her resilient spirit and determined attitude.

Bottom Line: Carpenter weaves another compelling story in An Alaskan Proposal – the setting, the characters, the writing style all perfectly on point. I loved the banter between Leith and Sabrina, their developing friendship, and those kisses! Tal & Boomer absolutely delighted me, and I hope we get to spend more time with them (in Volta’s story perhaps?). It’s always great to visit with old friends from previous books in the series, too, but this book works nicely as a standalone if you’re just starting here. Perfect for fans of Dani Pettrey’s Alaskan Courage series or Susan May Warren’s Montana Rescue series!

It was the Alaskan setting of this series that initially drew me to it, and it’s Beth Carpenter’s smooth writing, warm characters, and creative storytelling that keep me coming back to her books. Northern Lights is a great series of stories with connected characters that you get to revisit, although each story stands alone. The stories are clean and I’ve greatly enjoyed each one.

First of all, the setting is fabulous, and I love visiting Alaska through the author’s eyes. From vast landscapes, to local places and outdoor activities, to special events like fishing for king salmon, Carpenter creates a vivid sense of place and imparts some fascinating tidbits of information at the same time.

Another strength is rich characterization, with Leith and Sabrina being warm, talented, caring, and so very real. Both had been hurt in the past and were wary of romantic relationships. I made Leith’s initial mistake in thinking that Sabrina was superficial at first, for “he suspected her biggest talent was looking good” – but a world of complexity slowly unfolds. Because of Sabrina’s past, she had “discovered that security was an illusion. That counting on someone else for love and support was a gamble.”

All he had to do was teach her a few basic camping skills. How hard could that be?

The chemistry and banter between Leith and Sabrina make for great reading, and the humor is delightful. The camping trip scenes in the beginning are downright funny, and as for the nickname Explosion Girl … just read the book to find out! And be sure to notice the shadows in the tent on the cover. That’s the two precious dogs, Tal and Boomer. I may be a cat person, but these two stole my heart – as well as the show.

There’s also a serious note that I loved, a good life lesson about finding your purpose in life. Sabrina’s design skills that have lain dormant come into their own, and Leith left a previous career to become a survival trainer. This is just a great series that I wish could go on and on, for there’s many more stories to tell. Maybe the story of Leith’s sister, Volta, will be next?

Highly recommended.

An Alaskan Proposal is the fourth installment from Beth Carpenter’s series, Northern Lights. It is, also, my first introduction to the series, as well as, her writing. It is fun, delightful, and sweet. I just loved the chemistry between Sabrina and Leith. They were so fun together and I could not help but to giggle at some of the scenes. Just a wonderful beautiful and adorable story. I could not put it down until I was finished with it a few hours later.
I am giving An Alaskan Proposal a very well deserved five plus stars and I highly recommend it. I can not wait to go back to read the previous books in the series and look forward to more by Beth Carpenter in the future.

I received this book for free from the Prism Book Tours in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review. What is more important love or security?
An Alaskan Proposal by Beth Carpenter is delightful. I enjoyed visiting the spectacular places in Alaska along with Sabrina. Did you know that there is silicon cookware for camping? Yep, there is, and it collapses for easy storage and to fit in your backpack. Apparently, I need to get out more.

So, the story has many fabulous characters, and Ms. Carpenter does a great job of showing how flawed and yet loving each of them can be.
Sabrina Bell
Sabrina is one of those people who look put together and to some very girly. You know the type perfect nails, hair never out of place, wears fancy clothes and snobby. However, if you thought that you would be very wrong.

Although, Sabrina is reserved, as she was hurt before and that has affected her life. She is also extremely money conscious and a hard worker.  Sabrina also has a big heart which you don’t see until you get through the facade that she projects. I loved seeing her allow herself to grow with Leith and his friends.

Sabina has taken a job with an outfitting company, and they have placed her in the Anchorage, Alaska store to train. The only problem is she doesn’t know anything about the outdoors and to advance she needs to learn everything like now. This is where Leith comes in.
Leith Jordan
Leif works for a company that teaches survival training skills, along with first aid and many other things. He is a great outdoorsman and bachelor. The last thing that he wants is a woman in his life. You see, Leith was also hurt by his ex-wife.

Leith grew up in Anchorage, his family lives there, and all of his friends are there. He is adamant that this is where he will spend his life.

There are lots of things that I like about Leith, like the way his smile lights up his face, that children are drawn to him, his love of animals, and loyalty and willingness to help his family.

There was only one flaw that I found with Leith, and that was that he was judgmental. Well, at first anyway.
An Alaskan Proposal CRRandom things that I liked about the story

The dogs, Boomer, and Tal. They have such personalities, and they are a big part of the story.
Learning about outdoor gear.
Walter and his mustache. He is such a cool boss.
Fishing for Kings and tackling the fish.
That Leith didn’t just take Sabrina camping and hiking all of the time, he took her to museums and exhibits in town too.
The Jordan family. They are all so sweet, especially Emma.
The reindeer farm and wedding venue.
Last but not least, the proposal. There are a couple of things about this, but you’ll have to read the book.

5 Stars for An Alaskan Proposal by Beth Carpenter
My rating for An Alaskan Proposal by Bet Carpenter is five stars. The story was fabulously written, and descriptions of the scenery were superb. It makes me want to visit Alaska even more. The characters all had their quirks and traits.

I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves a great romance.

Another great book in the Northern Lights series! I really enjoyed the easy friendship that developed between Leith and Sabrina, although I didn't understand how they could keep their relationship casual once the kissing started. I loved the Alaskan setting and all the camping and exploring described. It made me want to pack up and escape to the mountains! Even though Sabrina begins inexperienced in the outdoors and more comfortable with high fashion, her genuine personality shone through as she was determined to gain the experience she needed to succeed. Her strength and compassion attracted Leith and even though he had issues with trust in committed relationships, he also valued the light and warmth she added to his life. The two dogs Tal and Boomer were full of personality and showed another example of how opposites could complement each other. There were some cameos of the characters from the previous books in the series which was fun, and I also liked Leith's sister Volta and niece Emma. A great cast of characters made this a well-rounded story.

I really enjoyed this story by Beth. Watching Leith get his happy ending was nice to see. I liked Sabrina Bell her gutsiness. This story was a great read for it brought together people from previous stories and brought the story to life. Beth brings her stories to life and makes it hard to put a book down. I know I was burning the midnight oil last night. Its a beautiful story of acceptance and of letting go. I love reading Beth's stories about Alaska. In this story Beth shows us that you need to be willing to go the extra mile for love. I loved Leith and Sabrina's story. I can't wait to see who is next on her radar for a story.

Such a sweet romance!

I love the Alaskan setting of this series, and the people in it are just wonderful too. I loved Sabrina and Leith, and watching them go from two people who aren't quite sure what to make of the other to friends to more was just delightful.

When they first met, it was easy for Leith to put Sabrina into the same category of his ex-wife. She seemed to be overly concerned with fashion, unfamiliar with the outdoors, and less concerned with being completely truthful when the facts might not exactly help her to move ahead. The reader, of course, quickly saw through her POV sections just how wrong his first impressions were, and as he got to know Sabrina better Leith gradually re-evaluated his opinion of her to match reality. I loved that he was able to admit when he was wrong; seeing their friendship and mutual respect develop was a lot of fun.

Sabrina's had a harder life than she lets on at first, and her experiences have colored the future she's looking for for herself. She starts her temporary job in Alaska with a very specific goal in mind, and it takes her a while to realize that there might be other, even more fulfilling paths out there for her. Should job security really be her number one goal? Or is her dream job and an even more than she dreamed relationship worth taking a risk for?

This is a Harlequin Heartwarming romance, which means the romance is going to be a low sensuality one, which this definitely is--for the longest time there's nothing more than kisses between them, which was fine. The only thing I questioned was how quick Leith was to throw an ultimatum at Sabrina when they'd been declaring nothing but friendship for each other for weeks (friends who kissed good night/good bye with a little more than friendly intent, but still...) It just seemed that a declaration of *another* kind should be in order before demanding that she make a choice that involved him in her life. He does (mostly) make up for it later, and their HEA is beyond satisfactory, but still...it felt a little bit out of order.

I somehow missed reading the second book in the series, A Gift for Santa --it's on my TBR--but each book could work as a standalone. Past series characters do pop up, as they did here, but if you haven't read their stories (yet!) you will still do fine; if you have, it's like briefly visiting old friends :)

Fingers crossed that there's more to come from this series--I am loving these little glimpses of Alaska and the wonderful characters Ms. Carpenter has created!

First impressions should never last. And that’s the case when Leith meets Sabrina. The woman appears to be exactly the opposite of anyone he wants to hang out with—clueless about the outdoors but deceitful about it and high maintenance. Yet, when Sabrina strikes a deal with him, he unearths the many layers of this woman.

Despite her new job working for a large outdoor outfitter, Sabrina’s inexperience when it comes to anything outdoorsy is often humorous, but her drive and kindness are what leave the most lasting impression of her.

Through Sabrina’s eyes, Beth Carpenter gives readers a taste of the majesty and beauty of Alaska and through Leith and his niece, the readers get to experience some of the many adventures. Oh, and there’s a sweet romance full of mutual attraction and plenty of chemistry brewing in there too.

Beth Carpenter's descriptively toned voice makes us feel like we're right there in picturesque Alaska in the latest from her Northern Lights series! The gorgeous setting is divine, the characters nab our attention quickly and their sweet love story warms soul throughout. Lots of heart, riddled with emotion and just an overall fun read. A nice addition to this wonderful series!

Sabrina Bell only plans to be in Alaska for a short time, but she's determined to learn her way around the outdoors in order to win over her temporary employer. Meeting Leith turns out to be just what she needed because he's a pro at all things Alaska.

Leith Jordan teaches survival skills for a living, but when he sees this misfit prima donna, he doesn't think there's a chance she'll be able to pull her own weight against the wilderness. To his surprise, she takes to the outdoors quickly and her sweet nature has him falling for her in no time. Only trouble is ... she's not sticking around!

Sabrina moves to Alaska to be in a management training program for an outfitters store. she does not know anything about camping, the first time she goes they want her to do the beans, she put the unopen cans in the camp fire, yes the explode , Leith is a wilderness trainer, she talks him into helping her learn about camping so her boss does not find out. if you want to read a story that is well written with wonderful descriptions about the scenery and the animals you have to read the book I was given a copy of the book but this is an honest review

An Alaskan Proposal is an exceptional romance from Beth Carpenter. I really enjoy Ms. Carpenter's stories. Her characters are so human - warm, caring and just like friends. This book is the story of management trainee Sabrina and wilderness survivalist Leith. Sabrina is supposed to know about the great outdoors. She hires Leith to teach her what she does not know. There is a lot of humor - especially when Sabrina earns the nickname "Explosion Girl." This is a heart warming tale of changing life expectations and romance. I highly recommend it!

5 Stars. This was such an enjoyable story. I was hooked at chapter one. Sabrina and Leith are the cutest couple and their budding romance was fun to read. The plot is not only engaging; it’s a learning tool in camping, fishing, and wildlife. As with the previous books in this series, the author places the reader in a breathtaking setting. This story will make you smile and laugh. As a dog person, the two adorable dogs were an additional bonus to the story line. Camping, fishing, and attending a wedding with the characters from the first three books made this book a page-turner. I am looking forward to the next adventure in this must read series. Forever and Always
I've enjoyed reading Leith and Sabrina's story. He was that man "who would do whatever it took to keep her safe and happy." :) The outdoorsy experience makes it even more fun to read, especially with an Explosion Girl in the picture. I've learned couple survival skills myself in the process!

cute simple love story, none of the characters are insufferable or made loudly generic. it won't win any awards for redefining the genre, but I'm guessing if you picked it up because of the cover, you're getting exactly what you expect. bonus points for accuracy of specific camping details. fun to read and no smut, which is a plus for me.

In fact, I’ve already looked up her previous books and bought a couple of them, and can’t wait to read them. An Alaskan Proposal was an easy read, can’t-put-down type of book. I love Beth Carpenter’s writing style, and having an Alaskan setting was wonderful.

Well, this was fun.

Here we have Sabrina and Leith. She’s new to Alaska, and is also a temporary home for her; contrary to Leith, who’s lived there since forever and has no intentions of leaving.

Sabrina asks for his help in trying to fit in with her new job (‘cause she knows nothing about the outdoors) and he needs her help in a few friends/family situations.

Anyway, I loved reading about these two, how different they seemed but the more we got to know them, the more we realized they were kinda perfect for each other, lol. I loved Sabrina and how surprising she was, you never expected her to do certain things, and it was particularly surprising to Leith as well. Leith was cool as well and I liked how he opened up to her.

I also loved their trekking and camping travels, Alaska sound amazing! <3 <3

This was an all around fun and delightful story.

Another Northern Lights novel, in which Sabrina Bell, eager to get a job that won't end quickly, applies for a management position with an outdoor equipment company. To get that position, she has to endure testing by showing that she's knowledgeable about their product in their Alaska store. But Sabrina has never been to Alaska, nor has camping been one of her fortes. When she creates an accident that could have ended badly, Sabrina reluctantly asks for help from Leith Jordan. He's an expert in survival camping and he has already pegged Sabrina for worse than a novice, but he takes her on.

Although he's okay becoming her friend, he soon realizes that he wants more than friendship, but can he convince Sabrina to stay in Alaska when the dream job she's always wanted becomes available? Trouble is, it's in Arizona. Is that secure job what Sabrina really wants? And how can she sort out what will make her heart soar, not just what will pay her a decent living?

An Alaskan Proposal truly warms the heart, as do all Beths' stories. Sabrina and Leith’s story, as well as the story of their two dogs, is an absolute pleasure to read!! It was funny and I smiled a lot while reading this and I had to laugh out loud at the bean explosion incident and the fish that almost got away. As I have said before, Beth’s ability to make you feel that you are right there, is truly magical. I was so pleased to find that friends from her other Alaskan Heartwarming stories were in this one, too. To be able to visit the Reindeer Farm again with those friends, was wonderful. That was a fun visit for me!! The way she describes Alaska makes it come alive enough for me, that I am able to clearly visualize what she describes. Beth did a magnificent job writing this!!!!

I love the setting, give me a book set in Alaska and you can be sure I'll give it a read 😂

The romance was great, I loved the progression of their friendship as it became something more. Sabrina and leiths romance was fun to read about, especially once leith started to see Sabrina for who she really was.

The dogs! Omg they were so adorable, it was an element to the book that I didn't know I needed in my life but now that I've read it I need more books where the characters have pets that are an important part of the story, cause it was so good in this story!

Overall I thought this book was very wholesome and sweet and there wasn't really anything for me to dislike about it! I really loved this one!

Another wonderful book by Author Beth Carpenter.
When Sabrina’s job ends due to the store closing she takes a manager trainee job for an outdoor outfitters in Alaska. She’s never been camping in her life but with Leith’s help she just might pull this off.
Sweet and charming, will keep you reading until the very end.
