Note:

The last few audiobooks have had outtakes of mistakes & it's pretty funny to hear what cracks up Phil. =)

Most of my fav books in this series are when you get a personal look into one of the main crew's life. This has a good part of that and I liked how BJH manipulates the whole time travel/dimensions.

My least favorite of the Space Team series so far. Basically one giant crossover with the Dan Deadman cast. There’s just too many characters in a plot that’s not strong enough to sustain it. In fact, this felt more like a series of events than a cohesive whole. Tone is off at places too, swinging wildly from really funny to dead-serious, adding to the sense of identity crisis.

Felt less like a novel and more like several episodes of a tv-show edited together.

Excellent narration by Phil Thron as usual.

I have to admit, this had the potential to go off the rails having, in effect, 3 different casts all mashed together. But it was pulled off exceptionally well, had some great twists and turns, and the expected level of humor, danger, and hijinx.

Frankly, I'm always amazed at how well Mr. Hutchison plots these out for how quickly they are written and published. It's comedy and light-hearted, but the twists and turns are brilliantly produced and executed. Readers shouldn't expect it to be simplistic or full of hand-wavium just because it's comedy.

It's your classic zany Space Team chaos, time travel, absurd missions, ridiculous allied forces but it didn’t quite land at “laugh‑out‑loud” territory. The narration gets props for keeping things energized, though I’d already reached peak enjoyment levels in earlier books .

Characters are still banter‑worthy and weirdly lovable, but the payoff felt lighter this time around. Good setup. Reasonably fun. Not the strongest entry in the series.

Even after reading so many of these, I was caught off guard at how well crafted this story is. It starts a little slowly, but it ends so well.

The story was all over the place, and the constant sexual harassment of Lauren was nauseating.

Kindle unlimited, don't review near same amount as used to versus these days, but keep up with Hutchinson and a few others. I actually own the Splurt tshirt and the collection of short stories featuring Splurt, it's somewhat an addiction, a space addiction some say....

The King of Space Must Die

The King of Space Must Die is Book Nine of the Space Team series by Barry J Hutchison. This one I'm a little on the fence about.

When it comes to time travel and paradoxes, the rule of thumb is usually to be careful. It can be hard to keep things in line. Using the line the same matter cannot occupy the same space is insulting. Most people know it does not take much time for the body to replace cells, thus the you of years ago is no longer the same person.

But Barry does address the paradoxes well. He does it by ignoring them. Smart man.

Some of the issues I have are at the start of this book as we are introduced (not so much) to a few new characters. It is like we are to read the authors mind and take it for granted that they are in the story. No, here's Lilly or such. This is what irked me a little in the read.

Something I have also noticed is Barry starting to be a little more braver with his narrative. From the start, he has used translation chip censoring to remove swear words, but they are starting to come out. And a few of the characters are crossing the line between good taste and downright silly. Humor is not used in the good Monty Python way we humorists are used to.

In the end, our hero's survive to fight another day. You would not expect anything different from Barry's writing. In this book the good guys (or nicer guys) survive and the bad guy is gone. I'll keep going through the last book I have in the series and do a compilation at the end.

Until then, I'm getting the shiz out of here.

As a take a walk down memory lane, to the far away time of January 2018, I fondly remember how I thought I might not be able to put up with Cal Carver’s obnoxious, irritating, grandiose opinion of himself. Oh how my opinion quickly changed.

I am a huge fan. The Space Team series is wildly entertaining and always brings a smile to my face, but also, occasionally, tears to my eyes. Believe it or not I am actually emotionally invested in these people. Cal, Miz, Mech, Loren, and Splurt.

In this installment Cal gathers his team, along with many of the other people he has made friends with while he travels the universe - Nana Joan, Dan Deadman, Rhonda and others. He gathers everyone because they have to fix the mess they made when they sent the most evil guy in the universe back in time. Well, they have to fix that problem and they have to come to grips with what happened to Miz.

I highly recommend listening to these stories not only because they are fun, but because Phil Thron, the narrator, is phenomenal. I find myself looking for yard work to do so I can take my book with me and listen while I work. My yard has never looked better!

I think it's partly due to the fact that I was so into the story set up in PLANET OF THE JAPES and TIME TITAN OF TOMORROW (which I think are two of the author's best books of all that I've read so far), but this resolution to the storyline established in that trilogy fell a little flat for me. Don't get me wrong, it's still Space Team and therefore still really enjoyable... but I wanted there to be a little more to the narrative. It felt like half the book was assembling the larger group and the second half was bouncing around to different characters without any of them really having a moment to shine. And the climactic battle with the bad guy that was three books in the making kind of fell flat. That said, this book still had the author's trademark humor (some of the best laughs of the series, IMO), and I will certainly be looking forward to reading on in the series.

A thoroughly silly space drama pitting the hapless crew of the Unnamed, captained by Cal Carver, against Krone, King of Space, a star system, galaxy gobbling tyrant and his generals.

Between the nonsensical conversations of the crew whose dialogue is laced with creative cursing, the pomposity of Krone, and the fantastical space beings, the story challenges readers (or in this case listeners) to stick with the 9th adventure of Space Team Universe.

As always, the talented cast of voice actors at Graphic Audio http://graphicaudio.net make the story come alive.

In which our hero kills the king of space, but not before adventures happen.

If you're reading this, I'll go ahead and assume that you've read the other books in the Space Team oeuvre and don't need an introduction to the storyline or the characters.

Suffice to say that this tale, like the once that came before is funny, sad, a bit confusing (time shizz), and happy. Read it and enjoy it as you've no doubt enjoyed the rest, then beg for further adventures to be written about Cal and the rest of the Space Team.

I call this one Space Avengers Assemble?

yep, sticking with space avengers assemble... seriously, this book is easily the best yet. I just... I... It... It has blown my mind.
If you are reading this I guess you have read the previous books. If so stop everything and just buy it now. Maybe you haven't read them, in that case buy all of the space team and deadman books and read them.
Either way stop reading this review and get this book... it is that good 😁👌

This incredible series races on apace.

Our intrepid space team together with some old characters take the fight to Geronimus Krone, the most evil entity in the universe(s).

Needless to say space crazy things happen when their plans go awry (of course😑).

A fabulous teaser leaves a great opening for Krone (who knows he is dead, or is he?) and the Unshuk another evil being hated by many races, who was bested by Miz, who makes a great return!

Great plots with great humour and funny characters, Arthur is a welcome new addition.

Another wonderfully funny book!!

I tore through this book as soon as I started. I've laughed and I've cried and loved the trip down memory lane seeing the assorted cast of characters from books past.

I started this series to try something different and I've not been disappointed.

The characters are lovable and so easy to cheer for. I've loved the world building and the interconnected lives that were written.

In short I fonking love this shizz!!!

Spacetastic

Another absolutely brilliant space tale by my favourite space author. Barry has done it again but on an even bigger stage by bringing all the characters together for one epic Space Adventure.
These Space novels are crying out to be made into a film or T V series, I for one, and millions of others would be glued to my Space TV every week as we have been glued to our books and tablets during the whole Space Team series.... Go Barry, go Space Team

Goodbye Space Team

I have enjoyed this series very much and it pains me to give it two stars, and I am being generous here. Worst book I have read in a long time, too much going on, dialogue is stale, out of the deadman series he focuses on Artur?, Introduces characters from other books just so you will read the other books, then promptly forgets about them. And don't even start me on the Scottish speaking dwarf, I am Scottish and half of it is gibberish to me.

Losing air

The series is winding down unless the minor characters can be made major elements of the stories. The main character's carelessness is becoming irritating and his self-centeredness is on full display and it's not a good look.

Douglas Adams managed to create characters that were not so obnoxious but still retained a bizarre worldview. Will consider another volume but not sure.

As usual a hard to put down read

Side splittingly funny with the whole range of emotions added in. The depth of the universe and development of the characters makes it seem so real. Like all this is really happening, as if Barry is just writing his own experiences and drips them off every so often to party for his earth bills while he zooms around saving us all whilst we are all blissfully ignorant and happy believing in it all as fiction

While having its fonking hilarious moments, I felt like this installment was more on the serious side. If a comedic space opera can be said to have a serious side - yeah, I'm going to say that it can.

Cal, Mech, Miz, Tela and Splurt are joined by many of their previous friends and acquaintances such as Dan Deadman, Ollie, Artur, Nana Joan, Rhonda, and all the other Cals. Their mission is of course that the King of Space Must Die!

Fun, wonderful story with excellent narration.

This one had a character from his other series in it and I'm curious as to that series. It won't be done by GA (at this point), so not jumping on it yet. The book itself was normal. I laughed at loud a few times, which is always fun. This had a feel of the current movie out the Adam Project if you catch my drift. I'm curious as to what the next book holds because of the ending, but trust Barry to not change things too much as it could effect some relationships in the series which I enjoy.

Fonking awesome read!

Just read this whole series. Trust me it's worth it. Special thanks to Barry Hutchison for not letting Team Space Team down with the Miz bit. I did mention to read the whole series right? Only then will you totally understand what I mean. Kudos Barry! Write like the wind 😁

Yet Another Beaut

Loved this book. As the series progresses, the jokes get funnier and the emotional undercurrent becomes more... uppercurrent.

My only issue: I didn’t read the Deadman novels, so the beginning left me confused until I was up to speed with characters from that series. Once I got past that, the book was delightful.

Another great space adventure

So this was another great space adventure by the Space Team. I must admit it got a little confusing in the second act but came together nicely in the end, earning a rare (for me) five star rating. No spoilers here, but you will enjoy it!

Thank you, Barry, for another great read in The King of Space Must Die. You are a fine Space Author.

The Space Team return and the fate of the universe is in there hands!! We are all doomed, Space doomed! This continues the story from the last book with the team coming to terms with there loss and embarking on a recruiting mission in there quest to stop Geronimus Krone. As usual the character interactions are what make these books and Barry is on top form.
