Being of illegitimate birth, Lillian knows that her life is destined for miserable poverty and tremendous hardship.
But a number of years later when her wealthy uncle returns from a sea faring voyage, he offers to marry Lillian off to better her family standing. This leaves Lillian both excited, yet dejected. She cannot imagine giving herself away to someone who would only wed her for her uncle’s wealth.
And as fate would have it, when a young and handsome Lord named Grayson Hughes hears of Lillian’s plight… he puts forth a proposition to spare both of themselves. What begins as a ruse to ward off greedy suitors takes a passionate turn – and Lillian finds herself falling in love with a man only pretending to be her lover.
Will the mysterious Lord Grayson Hughes return her true feelings? Or will Lillian’s heart end up broken, along with her future happiness?
This is truly an Enjoyable read. Prepare yourself to just have fun and join the Season. This is a tribute to the bluestockings, wallflowers, the downtrodden, the poor relations forced to accept grudging charity and endure cruelty, the bastards, the over~looked and the by~passed poor yet smart and spunky women of the genre. Funny, but my copy did not have any misspellings or other editing flaws as mentioned by one reviewer here, nor did I see any misplaced word or phrase out of context that would have disrupted the Timeline and caused a Time Warp which is my pet peeve.
P.S. ~ I think the cover is not entirely in keeping with the story, though it is after all the contents that actually matter.
This story was truly one that I couldn’t wait to finish reading. Not because it was a riveting story, but because it was so incredibly boring. The plot was predictable. The story was uninteresting. I kept waiting for something exciting to happen. Add in the fact that the entire book was so rife with errors. Grammar errors, spelling errors, and more. All of these could have been avoided with a basic editing of the book. They were so distracting that they made the book hard to read.
I would not recommend this book and I am so glad that I am finished with it.
The story was unbelievable. And the book could have used an editor. The numerous grammatical mistakes and missing words made reading difficult. If the novel hadn't been so short, I probably wouldn't have finished it.
Loly was s bastard cold when her parents gone she was sent to the castle to work as a servamt. Grayson saved from the bullies. Years later her uncle found her and brought her back to health and love at no ecpense. Love friendship and triths
Difficult to read smoothly due to lack of proof reading. There are many errors in spelling, use of incorrect letters and words. I found myself re-reading sentences to grasp their intent. I will however finish reading as I do enjoy the story line.
A pretty thin story with far too many proof-reading errors and some clumsy writing. And the 'errant father' is simply 'the Duke' - and everyone knows who that is? err.. Which Duke?
