Why is it that almost every romance writer these days can't write a second-chance story without Hero moving on with OW(s) and/or having a child with someone else while poor stupid heroine remains constant and true? Geez, I hate this theme!

This so called Hero is a douchebag and the heroine? Well, she is another of those weak heroines who are so in lust that nothing else matters! This one opened her legs for H minutes after he re-entered her life after a 12 year absence - with the kids nearby in the house!

H & h had a difficult family history and when they were in highschool they fell in love and had sex on the night before he left her without a word. They were each other's first. Heroine became pregnant and was fed some lies by her father but still tried to contact hero to let him know that he was going to be a father - only for him to ignore her calls and move on with his life. That life included marrying someone else and having a 4 yr old daughter and staying away from heroine for 12 yrs!

After his divorce, they start to write to each other and they reconnect only to find out that he had fathered her son.

What bugged me the most, and I couldn't get past it, is that he was so sweet, loving & protective towards his 4 yr old daughter with the ex but when he found out that the h's son was his, he didn't seem ecstatic or thrilled with the news. In fact he treated him with indifference and blamed the heroine for not telling him in the first place! That's a typical douchbag move for Hero to always blame h when it's their fault 100%.

That scene stuck with me so much and the back & forth wish-washy thoughts of his of "I love her/ I don't", "I want to re-start things/I don't", "Want to be with her/ I don't", etc. just had me aggravated too much to continue so I DNF'd after the first few chapters.

Life is too short to waste time on stupid writing. These writers are too lazy these days and lack creativity so they just put out there all the same smut. No thanks!

I'm done!!

Nothing against the writing-I didn't get far enough to judge it. But listen up AUTHORS!!! I am sooooooooo tired of the bad boy moving on with his life and having a good time, having a family, whatever while the poor heroine sits around FOR YEARS! without anyone while raising the scumbags child. I couldn't finish this book after reading numerous reviews that stated this. This author has another book I got from Booksprout to review, but it was the same without the secret child. The hero was a jerk, married someone else and lost his wife, but comes back home to his "first love" and the idiot heroine fights all of one chapter before she spreads them. Ugh!!! And the hero is still mourning his dead wife!!!!

*sigh* I just couldn't read through this one. I did get about halfway through, urging myself to get passed all the sex scenes (which are plenty) to get to the end.

And that's the problem. This couple should be discussing far more important issues like getting the heroine the hell out of her little, rinky-dink town in the Carolinas and just find another universe to be where her corrupt mayor of a father doesn't exist. I cannot believe that this woman puts up with so much abuse from her father which is far worse than physical abuse! There is nothing that says she has to take it and stay in this horrible town of inbred cretins so that she doesn't "rock the boat". ROCK THE TITANIC!!

Gah! I hate these stupid, weak-willed heroines. If I was a supervisor for child protective services, I would have yanked this kid from her because she wasn't protecting him from the abuses of her father. And, sorry, a kid like him doesn't become this "old soul" who's not going to be psychologically damaged by all of this.

So I couldn't finish it. The hero wants sex rather than just scoop her up and run out of town with his biological son through her. Whatever happened to dealing with the issue and have celebration sex AFTERWARDS?

So I give it two stars. Why? Decent grammar and spelling even though there are still some punctuation errors. I'm sure it has an HEA, but not at the cost of wasting my reading time just to get there. Sorry, Emily, but you've done better.

Eric and Olivia had a forbidden love story back in high school. Olivia's dad was against them being together but they snuck around and found ways to be together until everything blew up for them. Eric’s dad was very abusive to him and that factored into him being an outcast in their town, and also for Olivia’s father looking down on him. Olivia had her own problems with her family- her mom and dad treated her pretty bad. That’s how she and Eric found common ground and ended up bonding and falling in love. When Eric left town back then, he didn’t know that Olivia had a piece of him inside her- their son. Fast forward 12 years later and Eric’s father has died so he comes back to town and brings his daughter with him. Its then he finds out he has a child with Olivia. The story shows the strength of the desire that still exists and the love that hasn’t died. But there are people who do not want them to be together, and they start spreading toxic hate which causes Eric to doubt staying with Olivia and their son. Which kind of made me doubt the strength of their commitment to each other yet the ending was sweet. It’s a good 2nd chance romance with tons of heat and eroticism that plays well.

I received this book with the understanding that I could leave a voluntary and honest review.

In this book we meet Olivia and Eric. Eric was the typical bad boy when he was younger but there was always one woman who held his heart and that was Olivia. The years have seen them both through many things but there are some things that are about to come to light that neither thought they would ever tell. Can they find a way to their HEA or will the high school romance they had be all they will every get?

This is an amazing book. It has it's ups and downs that I really want to tell you about. I however don't want to ruin the story for any other readers. I will tell you that this book will have you hooked from the first word to the very end. I would highly recommend it to anyone and everyone.

Ruthless Daddy, this is indeed a fitting title!
I am a big fan of second chance storylines. This one had my interest peaked from the very beginning.
Eric goes back to the town he had no plans of ever seeing again many years prior all because of Olivia, the one women he had never forgotten, after corresponding through the mail for some time, she tells him he is needed back there, and she has news for him.
What awaits him when he arrives is a storm of hatred from Oliva's father and the rest of the town, wanting to blow him and his daughter right back out of it but now that he has seen Olivia he is ready to fight...
So, this whirlwind second chance romance had me up in arms quite a bit.
Their sudden sexual escapes: while intriguing, had me saying out loud, sure that is EXACTLY what I am thinking about when faced with life-changing news, OR something so scary and severe!
And while the maturity level of Eric and Olivia I assumed was a product of their environments, the whole town seemed that way in one form or another; it was like the beginnings of a backwoods cult or horror movie.
IMO of course.
Regardless, I did read this story in its entirety and found it to be descriptive, bold, and well paced. With many parts full of sweetness, and redemption, heart mending and all full of love!
While this book may not be my absolute favorite by Emily Bishop, I am sure others will love this story and mesh better than characters and storyline I did!
I suggest checking this book out for yourself, see what you think!

Who is the ruthless daddy: Eric or the fathers of Eric and Olivia? Intriguing storyline…THE BEST!
Whoa…this book grabbed me on page one and didn’t let go. I finished it in one day which is amazing for me. Ms. Bishop uses flash backs as a way to explain events and people in such a way that I couldn’t stop reading. I HAD to know what these things meant to the story.
Eric and Olivia had been friends since they were 8yo when Eric’s family moved in next door. Eric’s father was abusive and Eric found solace in Olivia. As they got older this solace took a turn. Eric becomes the town’s bad boy everyone loves to hate, especially her father. The carnival fire changed everything…Years later Eric comes back into Olivia’s life but at what cost to both of them?
This is without doubt one of the best, most intriguing stories I’ve read to date. There are multiple OTT swexy scenes between Eric and Olivia. There are bad guys and small-town prejudices. One of the most poignant scenes takes place at a picnic at an old barn. Ms. Bishop has written a well-constructed story with deep implications. This book is so beyond the average. I also liked that Eric was a regular guy, not a billionaire playboy when he comes back into Olivia’s life.
I highly recommend it and there are two more books included as well as previews of others. I was offered an ARC to review but chose to buy it for my “Bishop library.”

A Great Twist To A Second Chance 💕💕

This is without a doubt an amazing story that will stay with you well after the end. There is no billionaire in sight but Eric is labeled a bad boy because of the actions of his father. Eric is what I would say is a lost and lonely soul trying to survive his father's drunken abuse. He has found solace and a special friendship in Olivia, the girl next door. Olivia is also lost and lonely living the life her parents want, cheerleading captain, top grades and a good girl with fake friends and a controlling a* *hat father. Their friendship must be kept a secret from the small town and their fathers. Eric never had a chance in this small town and their prejudices. It's been twelve years since Eric and Olivia have seen each other due to that fateful night at the carnival, and Olivia has kept something from Eric this whole time. Even though Eric has changed the town has not. Follow Eric and Olivia through their story of sadness, forgiveness and a love that can not be denied no matter who get in their way. Emily Bishop has taken us on a rollercoaster ride through hell only to come out of the tunnel into brightness. This story is so intriguing I couldn't put it down. I loved it and if I could give it more stars I would. I highly recommend you one click now and enjoy!!

Eric and Olivia loved each other and had one night of amazing passion and sex. But the next day, he was gone.  They had both suffered a dreadful childhood as a result of their vile fathers. Olivia's father was the town mayor and abused his position of trust to get rid of Eric by framing him for an accident that he wasn't involved with but the town took her father's side and wanted him gone.  Olivia and Eric do keep in touch in secret and she lets him know that his father has died so he returns for the funeral with a little daughter by his side!  That was one of Eric's secrets, but Olivia has one of her own and he is 12 years old!  A bad boy made good story and back to prove his innocence and claim the love of his life.  I love the way Emily Bishop writes.  She writes with such passion and care so that you almost fall in love with the characters yourself.  I so wanted Olivia and Eric to have their HEA but so much has happened over the years.  But they have one thing that gives them a chance and that is their enduring love and passion for one another.  I couldn't put this book down until I had completely read it all. it is a fast paced story with oodles of chemistry and and red hot love.  Will Olivia's father break them up again or will he get jis just reward?  I receive a reader's copy of this book and voluntarily leave my honest opinion of it here. I'm really looking forward to Emily's next story.

A Great Story! Definitely Recommended

What a great book. I really enjoyed Eric and Olivia's story. I was drawn in from the beginning. The things the two have had to deal with since becoming neighbors so long ago and the what happened to cause them to not see each other for the past 12 years is heartbreaking. Eric was always looked at as the bad boy of the small town they lived in because of the way his father treated him. Olivia may not have been treated as badly as Eric was by his father but she suffered as well. Her father and mother did not treat her the way you should treat your own child. In this Eric and Olivia had bonded and eventually fell in love. Tragedy strikes and Eric is blamed. He leaves town thinking it would be better than staying. Years later he returns and learns of what happened to Olivia in his absence. He knows he has never stopped loving Olivia. He will do anything to protect his family and find the HEA he and Olivia have always wanted. This is such a well written book with twists and turns along the way. Olivia has finally found the strength to stand up to her manipulative father and have the life she has always wanted with the help of Eric. I love how even though they have to overcome past and current obstacles they never let it get tear them apart. yes there is a little misunderstanding but it is quickly resolved and the two are stronger for it. One of my favorite books by Ms Bishop.

Eric and Olivia have a forbidden love that has transcended into adulthood. When they were in high school all they wanted was to be free to see each other but Olivia's dad was against it. Eric's father was abusive to him to when everything blew up for them Eric left town not knowing that his one night with Olivia had left her with a piece of him...his son. Its years later when they reconnect via letters that they explore the possibility of seeing each other. It takes his father's death to get him and his daughter Maggie back into the town that hated him. When he learns of his son he's upset but not at Olivia but their circumstances. Just when it seems like they can be a family Olivia's father starts bringing up the past and causing new hurts. Will Eric take his family away from the town that's toxic to him or will he leave them behind again?

This is an amazing story once I started I couldn't put it down. The chemistry between Olivia and Eric is off the charts hot. This is a well written and very entertaining story. I couldn't understand why a town that knew what was going on when Eric was a boy didn't intervene and help him. I would recommend his to any book lover.

This is a good read with angst, heartbreak, secrets, lies, abusive fathers and a second chance at love. Eric and Olivia have known each other since they were eight years old and he moved next door. As they got older Olivia became a person Eric would go to after getting knocked around by his father. Everyone in town knew what his father did but never did anything. Olivia's father told her to stay away from him, but she never did and they grew closer. When they were in high school they kept their friendship a secret. After one night together, it changes both their lives forever and Eric leaves town. Twelve years later he is back home and finds out he left more than his first love behind. Of course, the connection between them didn't die out, they still care about each other and never stopped loving each other. Olivia's father had always treated her son Max like crap, and Olivia has had to put up with the barbs he throws at her. The one thing she won't tolerate is how he treats Max, and she makes that known to him. Can Eric and Olivia be the family they want to be or will the past and her father get in the way? I could not put this book down once I started it. This is a great book about second chances and true love.

This is one heart wrenching story about Eric and Olivia. They have known one another since they were 8 years old as neighbors and seemed to be the one who understood them and help keep them safe. Prior to graduating high school some boys bully Eric and a tragic event occurs and the entire town blames him knowing this Eric leaves and does not return until after the death of his brutality mean father. Eric and Olivia have been writing letters to one another so once she lets him know about his father’s death he returns with his little girl, Maddie. They have some secrets that come out upon seeing one another after so many years and Olivia’s father is still very controlling and makes it almost impossible for them to find their way back to one another. Will Eric ever be able to stand up for what is right for him and his family and move forward with them? Can Olivia ever forgive Eric for running away and will she ever stand up to her father and his way of thinking? The feelings and chemistry between these two is something very special and an enjoyable story! I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book.

WOW!! What an amazing book. I’ve said this so many times but Ms. Bishop really out did herself with this one. It was different from her others in the sense that it was a much more emotional story. You may want tissues while reading this. It definitely pulls at those heartstrings.
She did an amazing job of writing the story and switching between past and present that I was totally hooked. You learn at the start that there was an “accident” at the carnival 12 years in the past. But the way she drags you along and not giving away too much about the accident, keeps you reading. I know I didn’t want to put the book down.
This was truly one of her best books. Although I will be completely honest that I was slightly disappointed in the ending. I was just expecting a little more I guess. That said, it wasn’t enough for me to think the book deserves anything less than 5 stars- it deserves more! Which is why I bought it. I know I’ll be re-reading this book!

Eric and Olivia had lived next door to each other as children, caring for each other and hiding their relationship from everyone. Eric's father was a mean, foulmouthed drunk who beat on Eric any chance he got. Olivia was there to console him, feed him when necessary and cheer him up when sad and treat him like a normal person unlike the towns people who called him a bad seed like his father. Friendship turned to love and they planned to run away together until he was framed for a starting a fire and ran out of town leaving Olivia behind, pregnant with his son. When his father died he went back to bury him and found out that he had a son. This was a tragic story of love that was almost destroyed by an over bearing father and vengeful teens. How Olivia and Eric's love survive years of emotional abuse and begin a new life together made compulsive reading!

Wow. This was a stunning, heart wrenching read from Emily Bishop and I could not put it down. The emotions that woman brought forth in each page just made my heart clench. She also added an element of mystery, not revealing the whole story until nearly the end so you are left guessing what really happened and who the bad guy really is. I don't want to give anything away here so I will just say that you have to read this book. If some of it doesn't have you in tears than I just don't even know what to say. I absolutely loved this and it is my new fav from Emily Bishop. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced copy of this book.

There were things I LOVED about this book, one it is a second chance romance with some hurts/lies in the background and we have the drama from that and with her dad who is now the mayor...but I wish there was more communication between Olivia and Eric and that Olivia could have left town sooner....her dad is just terrible.

Sometimes you find that time doesn't heal wounds and coming face to face with your past IN PERSON makes it so you can't find the words you so desperately want to say...sometimes passion wins out. We had some super hot sexy times in this book right from the beginning. You could tell that all the feelings were still there and even the hurt from all that time... (which obviously meant still caring). He sure would go alpha when he needed to but we also saw the sweet side right from the beginning with his daughter Maggie.

Overall, a good read, the story flowed nicely and I enjoyed both of these characters.

Two young small town kids suffering from different kinds of abuse seek quiet refuge in each other. As they grow older so do their feelings. Olivia's dad has always hated Eric. Everything goes up in smoke for Olivia & Eric on one fateful night. The night that forever changed them and their trajectories in life.
I really enjoyed this story. There was something about how different they were, especially in social class, yet they were each other's comfort. I loved the buildup to their union. Olivia's dad was a real piece of work! I was a bit disappointed in Eric's response after the funeral home scene. The other thing that bugged me was how Eric's mind kept turning to sex even while Max was missing. That just left a sour taste in my mouth.

What a second chance story. Eric and Olivia were childhood loves both of them experiencing a less than loving upbringing. They become each other’s support system as well as friends and loves. But tragedy strikes and Eric leaves town. They move on with their lives. Eric becomes a father to a little girl and Olivia becomes a mother to a little boy. Twelve years pass and they get in touch again via letters. Eric returns to town with his daughter in tow to attend his father’s funeral and finds Olivia still struggling to maintain her own life despite her father. Plus she has a son, his son! How will they resolve all the problems keeping them apart? I received an advanced copy and am happily reviewing this wonderful story by Miss Bishop.

Eric and Olivia have been friends since they were young Eric kept going to see Olivia when his father got abusive towards him. As they grew older Eric was known as the bad boy and their relationship eventually turns sexual. Eric leaves town and breaks Olivia’s heart but he has left her a surprise, years later Eric comes back into town because Olivia wrote to him saying that he is needed. Eric comes back to a town that he never wanted to see again there is so much hate and prejudice against him, his only shining light in all of this darkness is Olivia. This was such an amazing story this book had me hooked right from the start and there was no way that I was able to put it down. A 5 plus ⭐️ read and I highly recommend this book it’s definitely well worth the read.

Olivia had lost the love of her life when he set fire to the town in which she herself had been hurt and at the time had also was carrying his baby. After years of not knowing where or what had really happed he contacts her out of the blue. Eric had left the town where he had grow up with an abusive father after he set fire to the town by accident leaving his love behind, now after years he had contacted her. So when his father died he had to go and see to the funeral he was going to see her again but he was taking his daughter with him as her mother had left years ago. This story shows how nasty people can be to other who they deem as below them. But love has a way that won't be denied even if it's hard to get there it's all worth it in the end.

Sorry I just can’t with this shite.
I thought it was going to be a nice read. The blurb sounds so good like he’s an alpha daddy but he’s not. From the first few chapters, he seems like a pussy. All bark and no bite.
The way he just left without a word after meeting his son with Olivia? Broke my heart dude. If I was Olivia, I wouldn’t have him in my life or my son’s. He only cares about Maddie. I mean yea okay, but at the same time. You had a kid with someone woman but you claim Olivia was be only girl you loved? Not to mention you married this woman, too!
I’d expect you’d feel a strong emotion about finding out you have a son with a woman you ACTUALLY love! And he first time he saw her in 12 years?!! Where’s the emotions? Let me tell you where— NADA.
Ok bye. What a loser book

Ruthless Daddy is a story about Eric and Olivia. After their forbidden love in high school resulted in a pregnancy but Eric didn’t know that because Olivia’s dad found out and broke them up. Eric left town before he found out about the baby on the way. But when Eric’s dad dies, Eric comes back and Olivia and Eric have a second chance now.

This story is good. This story is for mature audiences with adult language and sexual situations. This would be a good read for anyone who likes second chance romances with lots of steamy scenes.

I’m giving this book 3 hearts

I appreciate the second chance romance part of this story. Eric, the bad boy of Randall, deserves a second chance with his childhood love, Olivia. He also deserves the chance to be the father to Max that he never was. I thought these two characters had chemistry. Bishop clearly creates a heated attraction and love between them. The story, however, made it difficult for me to care about them too much. I can appreciate it, but I thought Olivia stayed in Randall a bit too long, and Eric should have come to find her sooner. It's a good story, but I'm not sure if it is doing anything new with the second chance romance genre.

I loved this second chance romance of Eric & Olivia. I loved the strength of Olivia, the sacrifices she made for her son, and her ability to take a risk with the man who had already stolen her heart once before. Eric was broken in so many ways; the healing that had begun in New Orleans wasn't strong enough to keep him going in his hometown. The slow unfolding of the carnival incident kept me riveted. This book has all the feels, and I was glued to the pages hoping Eric and Olivia could find their way through their complicated lives. Such a great read.

Olivia has always been the dutiful daughter. Trying to be the kind of daughter that her parents can be proud of. Eric is the complete opposite. His father is demeaning and abusive. The town already thinks he’ll be as worthless as his father is. Olivia is Eric only saving grace. She gives him comfort and solace when his father abuse becomes to much. A mistake keeps them apart for a decade but after a while they began a tentative pen pal relationship and begins get to know each other as the adults that they have become. A family emergency sends him back home. A lot of things come to a head including secrets that will come to light.

Eric and Olivia have been friends since he moved in next door when they were 8. His dad was abusive so he found comfort with Olivia. As they got older their relationship changed to more than friends. He was the town bad boy and Olivia's dad hated him. An fire at the town carnival had Eric moving away. Now 8 years later he is back but people in the town are doing everything they can to ruin him. This is an amazing emotional read. There is a lot of flashbacks during the story that reveals more of their past. I couldn't stop reading this book. You must read this story I guarantee you won't be disappointed. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.

A found the romance between Eric and Olivia to be engaging and emotional. A second chance story that is filled with deep emotions and drama. I loved the connection between these two. On the out side they were very different but on the inside they had a lot in common, Even being separated for twelve years could not lesson the attraction and chemistry. Can these two overcome their pasts and the people still trying to keep them apart? Check out this book to find out. I'm posting a completely honest, voluntary review.
