In The Tale of Thorne , Ryan Tannen weaves a story of heroism and bold self-sacrifice in a battle of good and evil. Thorne, an unwanted orphan, discovers that an ancient prophecy has destined him to be the hero who can save his land from an ever-growing threat of darkness. This threat manifests itself as Halghoul, a servant of the evil King of Darkness. Halghoul is determined to reunite five ancient spirits, which will ensure the King of Darkness' return. Alongside an unlikely band of friends and rebels, Thorne must fight to save his world from the evil forces that would destroy it. Along the way, he may just discover the value of unbreakable friendships and what it means to be a true hero. About the Author The idea of a story hit Ryan Tannen out of nowhere. His fantasy world of conflict was inspired by how our world values facts over philosophy. Additional inspiration came from J.R.R. Tolkien and C.S. Lewis. Writing gave Tannen a better idea of who he is, as well as his own religious beliefs. He is excited for his readers to lose themselves in a world of adventure as they confront evil forces alongside his hero, Thorne. He looks forward to relaying many more of Thorne's adventures in books to come.
The world that Ryan Tannen creates is full of adventure and magic. This adventure has theme elements similar to Lord of the Rings. If you have children who love playing adventure games similar to "The Legend of Zelda" this would be an excellent way to introduce them to the fantasy worlds that books can create. The book is very fast paced and it keeps the reader guessing from one chapter to the next which path Thorne will take.
Thorne is a young orphan that finds himself in the middle of an adventure. He discovers an ancient secret and only he can unlock the key to saving his friends and possibly his world. He shows bravery throughout the book by always jumping in to fight evil and save his friends whenever he can. Thorne shows the reader what it means to be a true hero while also showing kindness to others and leaning his friends for support.
This would be an excellent story to get, or read, to a boy who is wanting to escape into a world of fantasy and magic.
Thorne is a young man who is alone in the world. He has no family or friends, and he is shunned by the villagers. When Thorne learns of Halgoul's plan to kidnap the five ancient spirits, one of which is in the form of Elana, a girl from the village he likes, Thorne discovers he is part of a prophecy, and the only person that can stop Halgoul. Thorne is lead to a tower where he finds the sword from the last great hero, but it has been stripped of all of it's power. The spirit of the forest enchants it, and instructs him to find the spirits of the mountain and desert so they can do the same. Along this quest, Thorne forms unlikely friendships and alliances, and learns what it means to be a hero.
I thought this was a fun story that is great for young children who are just discovering fantasy books. It's fast paced with very short chapters, which is perfect for children with short attention spans.
