My Review:

Mary, Jesus' mother had a very important job to do. Her life was truly meant to glorify God in every way. She was specially chosen to carry, deliver, and raise Jesus a man that was chosen to deliver us. His death on the cross meant so much to every one of our lives and some how, some way, whether we believe or not, His life&death touch us all. Mary(Get To Know), is full of interesting facts about this remarkable woman. You learn all about how she was raised and how she chose to raise her children. She was a very good example to us all on how to be obedient to God and how we are to put that first in our lives.

She taught her children to be that way. Knowing what she knew about the Lord's death and resurrection--I'm sure it wasn't easy for her each day, but she trusted God to the utmost. But because of her obedience and how she learned to stay at out of God's way, generations will benefit from that. She was a great woman of God and the best example of the Proverbs 31 woman that the Bible speaks about. This book is a great biography to teach our 6-10 year olds all about her and it is full of information as well as timelines, maps, and facts to gain further knowledge.

Having just reviewed "Paul" in the Getting to Know series, I was looking forward to seeing how the author, Nancy Sanders, brought Mary to life beyond the typical Sunday School literature and handouts. At $7 each, these little books pack a lot of information. Frankly, they are mini-commentaries wrapped in children's storybook format. As the child reads each chapter, they are presented with factoids and indepth information that is still within range for the age intended - 6-10 year olds.

This is not a "cutesie" storybook. It is indeed a reference book designed the young child in mind. It can entertain, but I do not see this as entertainment material. I see this being used during family Bible study time or in the home school setting. There is a virtual plethora of information packed in this book.

The author takes the time period customs and history along with Scripture to flesh out Mary's life. I like that the simple life of a woman in the Bible, though beloved of God and chosen by God to be mother of Jesus, is told for that alone - a Jewish woman in Bible times chosen to be Jesus' mother and the wife of Joseph.

Get to Know Mary is a biography for kids by Nancy I. Sanders. What a great book! The book makes it easy for children to understand who Mary was and how life would have been like during her time. I love the vibrant and beautiful pictures.
In addition to the colorful pictures, there are sections of the following:
Did You Know? - Which tells of small tidbits of information or facts
Eyewitness Account - Which is of historians of the time of eyewitness accounts that tell of the time about the time Mary lived.
Word Bank - This is on most pages that tell the meaning of certain words. These words are also included in the Glossary of the book
Bible Hero - Tells of certain heroes from the Bible scriptures
Timeline of Mary - Shows an approximate dates of Mary’s life and what was going on around the world at the same time
I think this book is great for kids and adults, as well. I enjoyed reading it. I was quite impressed with it. I look forward to other books in the Get to Know series.
I definitely recommend it to children so they can learn about Mary.

The Get to Know series by Nancy Sanders is a wonderful, educational Bible biography series for children. The full-color photographs, maps, and paintings make the pages appealing. Sanders shows what it was like to live in Mary’s day. In the twelve chapters, we learn about Mary and how her life intertwined with Jesus Christ. Each chapter has vocabulary words defined, a “did you know” fact section, Bible hero tidbits, and an eyewitness account proving events of the Bible. The back of the book showcases an impressive full-color timeline complete with pictures, glossary, and further resources for kids who want to study more. Children who have to do a biography book report can now study someone from the Bible. The book is even aligned with Common Core Standards. Highly recommended for kids, especially those who home school.
