Detective Al Warner is back on The Job after brutal climax of his hunt for the serial killer, dubbed "The Prom Dress Killer.
Ashton Kerry is furious his in-laws left him nothing in their will, but his wife’s massive trust fund provides all he can spend. Determined to have his own stash so he can ditch his family and be with his mistress, he enlists the Cuban mafia to ship cocaine via his company, packaged as brochures. Kerry is paid a nice percentage of their value. But in setting this up, the Cubans murder five of his employees, drowning them in a fake auto accident. Then Kerry’s ties to the Cubans become more complicated–and dangerous–than he ever expected.
Detective Al Warner’s gut tells him the accidental drowning of five factory workers is highly suspicious, and his “gut” is seldom wrong. It’s one of two cases the “Hero of Miami” is zeroing in on. The other is an exploding rash of deadly ODs from fentanyl-laced heroin—White Death. The drug is so lethal, he suspects the fatalities may be intentional. Soon everything erupts into stunning revelations and deadly confrontations, with Warner, as usual, right in the middle.
George A. Bernstein, now living in south Florida, is the retired President of a modest, publically held appliance manufacturer. He spent years attending writing seminars and conferences, learning to polish his work and developing a strong “voice.” George is acclaimed by his peers as a superb wordsmith and a crafter of surprise endings no one expects. He works with professional editors to ensure his novels meet his own rigorous standards, and all of his books are currently published by small indie press, GnD Publishing LLC, in which he has an interest. White Death is the fourth of his Detective Al Warner Suspense series, with the first three; Death’s Angel; Born to Die; and The Prom Dress Killer all garnering rave reviews. His Detective Al Warner has attracted many fans, with readers likening Warner to James Patterson’s Alex Cross. Bernstein’s first novel, Trapped, was a winner in a small Indie publisher’s “Next Great American Novel” contest, and received high praise, gaining many mostly 5-star reviews, reaching “Top 100” status. His second novel, A 3rd Time to Die (A paranormal Romantic Suspense) has also garnered mostly 5-Star & 4-Star reviews, with one reader likening him to the best, less “spooky” works of Dean Koontz & Stephen King. Bernstein is also a “World-class” fly-fisherman, setting a baker’s dozen IGFA World Records, mostly on fly-rods. He’s written the popular Toothy Critters Love Flies (www.pikeflyguy.com), the complete book on fly-fishing for pike & musky
I received this book from Voracious readers for an honest review. Well I like Al Warner as a character. I enjoyed the parts of the book that he was in more. Over all I found this book to be chaotic. The story was intriguing but there was so much going on that it was kind of hard to follow. From the opening with the blonde guy then it flips to Ashton Kerry - a blonde guy, I thought they were the same guy and was confused for a good part of the first book. I struggled to get through the book but I did find that once Al Warner was more prominent the book ticked along nicely and I feel it had better flow and a more engaging story. I think, actually I know, I would have enjoyed this book much more if it focused more on Al and his team as they are more engaging and the side characters should be more side characters rather than main.
I really enjoyed this book. It is an action packed, fast paced read. There are several story lines and a number of different characters to follow, which some readers might find overwhelming. However, I think it makes for a thrilling read and keeps you on the edge of your seat all the way through the book. And Detective Al Warner is my new favourite character - he is awesome! The author wove an intriguing and intricate story and he kept me guessing - wondering what would happen next - and I enjoyed that immensely. A great story and I can’t wait to read more from this author.
I received a review copy of this book from the author through Voracious Readers.
This was an interesting crime fiction. The only trouble is that there is too much going on in the story. It could have been divided into three separate stories. It was well written and flowed well. I received a complimentary copy of this story for an unbiased review from voracious readers.
I received this book via Voracious readers in return of a honest review, Altogether it was a good read. However there were quite a few storylines within the actual story so it could become a little confusing at times. I think this is a book to read twice , then it wouldnt be as jumpy
White Death takes us into the underworld of heroin distribution amongst cartels and shows how no one can be trusted and does it very realistically. Woven throughout is a man’s drive to have it all at all costs. This book has many unexpected twists and turns and keeps you wanting more.
