Drew Avera

Drew Avera is a Navy veteran, musician, and the bestselling author of the Dead Planet series and the Alorian Wars.

He was born and raised in rural Mississippi and grew up with a deep affection for comic books and science fiction movies and television shows. At one point he boasted a comic book collection with more than 1,000 issues. His love for comics inspired him to pursue a career as a comic book artist, but an injury to his hand ended that dream permanently.

Still, he was inspired to create in one medium or the other. He picked up a guitar at fifteen years old and began writing songs almost immediately. That “obsession” as his parents called it put him on the path to rock stardom…in his bedroom.

It was when he turned sixteen and bought the novel “What Savage Beast” by Peter David (The Incredible Hulk) that he caught the bug to be a writer. Unfortunately, it would not come to fruition until fourteen years later.

Drew enlisted in the US Navy as an Aviation Electricians Mate at seventeen years old. He served twenty years and deployed on four combat deployments to the Persian Gulf. During those deployments he would spend his free time reading books. He loved reading books in a series and that inspired his journey to becoming a fiction author.

In November 2012, at the age of thirty, Drew began his journey as an author by participating in national Novel Writing Month (NANoWriMo). He published his first book in March of 2013 and the rest, as they say, is history. With more than twenty books published in the space opera, military science fiction, cyberpunk, and dystopian genres, he has built a backlog with something for everyone who enjoys science fiction adventures.

After retiring from the Navy, he began an exciting new career in the simulation field. Drew is now focusing his efforts on building upon what he learned in his first eight years of publishing. He has plans for an all-new space opera and military science fiction series as well as new collaborations with other writers.

Skye Byrn - a review by Rosemary Kenny

Skylar Bernard, aka Skye Byrn a bounty hunter, is chasing Trudy, a bail jumper at the start of this epic futuristic novel by Drew Avera.

After taking her captive to the precinct and booking him in, she returns to see her mentor Sammy P. Arriving at her office, she learns of a mysterious package delivered by hand for Sammy. When she's told who delivered it, she realises - too late - it's a letter bomb and Sammy's opening it as the resulting explosion kills her boss, office manager Artie and everyone else in the location of the device. Skye learns what she can from Boone, the office AI who's recorded the whole incident and gives Skye her revenge target - an organisation called The Triptych.

Who runs The Triptych? What are its aims? Where is it based? What does Skye enrol Trudy Martis to do next? What did Trudy do formerly for Sammy P?How does the Triptych's leader control the 'troops' it employs? When is this person killed and what happens as a result?
How does Trudy get wounded? Who inherits Sammy P's estate and what do they do with it?

With plenty of thrilling action all the way, a feisty female protagonist and other engaging characters, who develop throughout the story, the intelligent fan of urban sci-fi and space opera will be more than satisfied - more please!

Received as an audio review copy from Story Origin, this is an honest review. Beautifully narrated by Rebecca Cosme, Skye Byrn turned out to be this wild, roller coaster of a space opera adventure. Skye's world aboard station called Ter has always been dangerous; and being a part of a crew of bounty hunters means missions against of the crazy people within the darker parts of Ter. But when a deadly organization shatters the lives that Skye cared for the most... revenge burns deep to break them as the group's broke her. Together with witty alliance of Trudy, Skye embarks upon a road of justice for her colleagues and for those that are exploited by those bastards.

Highly recommended.

Audiobook: I found this book to be entertaining. Skye was a bounty hunter who was asked to pick up Trudy, only things didn't go the way she was expecting. I liked the unique characters of Skye and Trudy. I enjoyed the twists and turns that made this story seem like a roller-coaster with all the events that happened. I liked the Sci-Fi elements that made up the tale. Rebecca Cosme's narration was fine. I was given a free copy of the audiobook, and I have voluntarily posted this review.

Good read

Although the author tells this tale as female it reads very well, but as a male myself I feel I don't know how a female would react. I hope they would see this as a good read also.

OK

Maybe a beach read. I was only partially drawn to the main characters and the plot remained thin. A semi-cliffhanger but am not sure I would read a follow up.

This was a awesome audio and for me more than some others. The book is full of action, and suspense, as bounty hunter Skye must leaver her comfort zone to find out who bombed her station and stop them before the whole station is ruined forever, but there are not to many people she can trust to help her and the ones she can are sketchy at best, but it is all she has.

This was a great book/audio and I hope author Avera brings Skye back again, I really loved her she is the kind of girl everyone strives to be on the inside, and narrator Rebecca Cosme was wonderful bringing the whole story alive and pulling you into the world with Skye and Trudy. Please write more.

An entertaining tale on a asteroid space station that has seen better days. The place is rundown and so are some of the people that live there. We follow Skye Byrn (and Trudy) through disaster and she wants a reckoning for those that are responsible for it.

Interesting for people who enjoy reading about a strong female protagonist. She is not above doubting herself, but in the end the student becomes the teacher.

When a package bomb sent by the syndicate blows up her office and takes out her boss and many of her colleagues, Skye goes out for vengeance in this action-packed thriller set on a space station.
Fast paced and well written with interesting characters and a cool S.F. setting that is easy to imagine.

Will the Triptych survive the Byrn?
I love this story. It's gritty, and kick-ass, and filled with revenge. Some how, in all that, there is friendship. And family. There are some serious weapons, a sprinkle of destruction, and not everyone is safe. If you think you can handle the mayhem, then this novel is definitely for you!
