Some forget why she was called the Queen Bitch. Not anymore.
Bethany Anne is going stir crazy after more than a decade of having to be "The Empress". Now, her advisors have to deal with an Empress who is determined to be on the front line.
The Ixtali's come to the Etheric Empire, hat in hand.
Nathan decides that the best way to handle soft intelligence is to create a new company. What they name the new company should give a clue what it is about.
The Skaine are able to finally get Ranger Tabitha's group right were their missiles can attack. The problem is, who is sucking whom into a trap?
Strap back in, because Bethany Anne is putting the Queen's crown back on.
This series is as pulp science fiction as it gets! I am a big fan of the gritty and exaggerated style of writing, but we all have to admit, a these books can get pretty repetitive and a person can appreciate them best in small doses. I enjoy the pedestrian-like prose, but even I, a person who grew up in a part of the World where cussing is an art, even I can get a bit exhausted by every sentence containing snark and curse phrases... In the beginning I loved the idea of coming up with creative swearing, but as in all things, less is more! Use it as an ornamentation, not as the bread and butter of the story...
Saying all that, having gotten to the 17th book in the series, I have grown attached to elements and characters of the story, so I will keep going with it. There are some very creative elements and a brassy quality to the characters which makes it uniquely American... There is a very strong sense of what our protagonists perceive as good and evil, always trying to stand up for the weak and fight the bullied... There is always a lot of humor and tender moments, mostly provided by little humans and animals. The trade mark for the series is some good old-fashioned ass kicking , from minor hand to hand to some major space battles. .. But my favorite theme is friendship and loyalty.
I hope we get a bit more moderate in some areas and more diverse in others as we go along with the main story. I am looking forward to the future 😈
Ok in this book we see BA and her bitches take on an aggressive race who have been updated and enhanced by the nasty Kurtherian. It's weird because they attack according to a schedule. Not a minute before nor after. The exact time they have been attacking this planet for the past seven years. It's awesome to see the Queen Bitch is back. Hey she's been an Empress for the last decade and she always leads from the front.
Nathan has set up a new company and is presently recruiting members. Bad Company is mainly formed to gather information. He forms the company with his mate Ecterina and his daughter Christine. Now he is on the search for others with the required personalities and skills.
Ahh nearly forgot..Gabrielle and Eric are now proud parents of twin boys. It was amazing. The twins were put into the pod at five months gestation. Tom and Adam then took them to full term while they sorted the nanosites of the twins. Hey I'm not going to give everything away. You need to read this series.
Again the language is both inventive and hilarious. Even Christine has developed a very extensive and impressive use of language. Ok so it is not maybe language you would use around kids. But here is the point, don't read these if you are easily offended by colourful language.
This is yet another incredible instalment. The world would definitely be a better place with BA in it. Enjoy!
I can't get enough of this story. I absolutely love reading this series. I know I still have a way to go in finishing the series. I wish everyone I meet would get hooked on the series and become a fan of Mr. Anderle like I did.. well off to the next read.
Normally I would give the book five star for the awesomeness, but I gave it four because of the repetitions of paragraphs, and some of the names misspelling. That's what I didn't like and hope Mike will do something about it. Now what I liked! The author is catching up and setting up actions for the books of miss Ell with her Ascension series, Nathalie Grey and other things. I would advise reader to read the series of the kurtherian world to really understand what's going on. I want to know what happen politically with the Ixtalis and Thorcellian who might join the empire. It was a good book but it felt transitional for the next one who I hope will be about more fight with the Kurtherian 7.
Another wonderful masterpiece. Love how we get to see more of Tabitha, and poor Jennifer always seems to be getting the short straw 🤔 so looking forward to reading the next book.
I've been enjoying these books less and less as the series continues. At this point, the Empress is the worst character in the book. She is a whining, petulant, immature, entitled and spoiled rotten brat. And everyone around her not only lets her get away with it, but also apologizes for not being able to keep up with her as she wantonly disregards military strategy, chain of command, operational security and communications. She callously endangers all of her best resources and apparently believes that swearing, stomping, threatening and shouting are the epitome of leadership. If I were the head of her military, after failing miserably at leading this battle due to having no idea what was going on, I'd quit due to my inability to contribute. and ask for my memory to be wiped so I wouldn't have to see what a horror my child has turned out to be. I'm no longer certain what the purpose of these books is supposed to be. Also, I find myself progressively less able to relate to the main characters, all of whom seem to be violent, sadistic assholes. I've been pushing through the last 6-7 books, hoping to see some character archs, or different plot lines. Unfortunately, this book put me over the edge. I enjoyed it while it lasted.
Forever Defend is the seventeenth book in The Kurtherian Gambit series by Michael Anderle.
Yay! We finally met at least four(?) other alien species. The Ixtali have been seen before, but now they’re on their way to being a card-toting member of the Etheric Empire. The Yaree (or Karillians) that the Queen Bitch comes out of hiding to help defeat their suppressors known as Leath, who are being controlled by the Kurtherian Seven. Then there’s the Estarians which come into the Etheric Empires fold. These ones are my favorite since they are like tall, blue, weird-nosed humans; and will likely lead to some half-human babies in the future. And finally the badass Bastek who is a CAT-PERSON. I need more of this alien PRONTO.
I liked everything that happened in this book, outside of the final battle (which wasn’t as badass as it could have been). Tabitha and her Tontos reeking havoc wherever she goes. Nathan and the Bad Company, with their recurring missions. Along with Shi-Tan becoming apart of their fold, even after his previous part in almost starting an Interstellar War. (Badass Shrillexian ftw.)
And BOO! Because we didn’t get to kick any Kurtherian Seven ass. But, at least there were many of the Skaine species that were sent running.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It was Bethany Anne at her ass kicking best, and she really showed the Leath what they were up against.
I really enjoy these books with their mix of hard hitting battle scenes, but also those tender moments that Bethany Anne and her people live for.
She is a forceful, strong, and independent woman but, at the very heart of her, she is a protector of her chosen family, friends, people, and her new allies. This is definitely a woman who won't take nonsense from anyone - and God help any enemies, if they anger her, or hurt anyone under her protection!
I loved the way that the book ended on a note of determination, that Bethany Anne is determined to beat the Leath, and is willing to move heaven and earth to do so.
According to my list, I'm now starting on the Empress' Spies series, so I'm off straight away, to search out the book: Diplomatic Recruit, which is number one in the series.
This book is full of beginnings, having read through the series once before, I love this book! (Notice I am on the second read of the series so I obviously love all of them.)
BA is busy being all Empressy and she is getting bored with that. So, when a group approaches with knowledge of a Kurtherian enhanced race, who is attacking their planet, BA is happy to slide into her best Jean Dukes gear and stomp some alien butt!
Tabitha and the Tontos are busy beating up Skaines and Barnabas forces them into a vacation...but is it really?
Nathan and his family set off recruiting for his new group and we have the birth of the Bad Company!!!! So much action and even some downtime as we welcome two very special members to the Ethric Empire!
Still awesome! I loved the artworks! More! Write faster! Haha! *cracks whip*
I read all the Terry Henry chronicles while I was waiting for this, if you haven't read them then go there immediately!! This story keeps getting better and better. I think it was a bit quick but that could be because I read so fast and was so made up to find it ready to read after I finished the THC's I abandoned all responsibility and retreated into my quiet corner with my kindle. As always, loving the author's notes at the back and I'd like to vote in favour of all TKG authors being dropped off at Awesome Craig's house until you finish writing the whole universe 😂
I can’t recall how I found this series, but I am totally addicted. As a housewife I have more time than others to read...and I have insomnia, not helped by the fact that I cannot put down my freaking iPad while reading on Kindle.
So it has taken me four days to read the first 17...I am about to start 18...in between painting my Kitchen cabinets...but I digress...This series is AWESOME!
Characters are beautifully fleshed out, the plot is terrific and it’s easy to just get sucked in. Thank you Michael Andersen for choosing or being chosen to write this series through your muses. I love it!
Cutting corners doesn't make for a satisfying read
An okay read but just when things get interesting it jumps ahead in time and just gives you the finish. Not a good way to go - it would be like taking Indiana Jones when he is running from the huge rock ball and then carrying on from when they get out. Also why is Bad Company being set up. Yes reading how they get recruits is one thing but a reason Why would make it better. Again it is a lot of baddie - good guy - win but not much in the way of explanation. Really annoys the heck out of me and I can't be the only one? Plus what happened to the people they were defending etc. Ughhhhh!
Solid five star rating...of course. It has been way too long without some Bethany Ann and her B's! Amazing work from Mr. Anderle. This one sets a couple years into the future from the previous installment but that's okay. I enjoyed the storyline nonetheless. The characters are still amazing. I've reread this whole series from book 1 - 16 at least three times under KU while waiting for this one to come out then I just gave up and bought the whole series. Now to wait for the next one.
I love this universe and this series in particular. Bethany Anne is my hands down favorite character. I like the themes of loyalty, duty, love, and power woven throughout the story. The irreverence, smartass remarks, and humor present throughout the series are endearing. The individual story threads running in parallel to the main story are interesting and I would expect them to come to fruition in future books. I anxiously await the next book.
Very good, I have read all of them so far as well as all at the other spinoffs I can find in the same universe as well as other books by these authors. Thank you for finding this universe and the people who live there. Bethany is kickbut awesome and Michael even more so.Despite not writing reviews on all of them thank all of the people who have written the books and the people behind the scenes, you know who they all are. Muchos Gracias and thanks much for the hours of great reading Ernie
I like these books, I think the characters are great and the story is truly epic, but the author’s writing style does irritate me at times. It’s reading for those with short attention spans, its like watching a soap opera where the director switches between characters numerous times every few minutes. Then there is the dialogue, which can be like a transcript of a conversation between illiterate teenagers. It also felt like the author occasionally couldn’t decide what to say, so didn’t say anything and just left a gap.
One more time and it continues to hold my attention. I have slammed though this series as if I have never read before! Michael, you continue to amaze me with the depth and breadth of this alien adventure. And, even for this grammar Nazi, the book errors have improved which increases my ability to remain focused instead of clucking in disgust! Lol! I wait with bated breath for future reads. Thanks for keeping an old lady happy. While it isn't better than sex, this series is as enjoyable as chocolate cake!
In just a few months time, babies were healed and fixed, many different aliens were spoken to, plans for a huge battle were made, ships were built and others were rehabilitated. So much happens in this book and so much gets accomplished. It's amazing that Beth still has her head on straight. I do like their recruiting practices.Very different. It also appears that time just flows by. Much thanks to you Michael for keeping me so entertained, I haven't watched TV in about a week. Onward to the next book.
My neighbors at the end of the hall have got to be able to hear me burst out laughing about something in this series! This book has pretty much everything you want including a lot of action that is wonderfully snarky and unique to the series in style. This book also has heart, which isn't typical in this genre. It's about family, born or made, and about helping others who can't help themselves. And it's about loyalty, who doesn't need more of that?
Great job , I have been waiting forever for this book to come out .Michael you did not disappoint. The only problem I had was that it was not long enough. It was great to see everyone still alive and kicking. I can't wait to find out what Nathan an Ekaterina are going to be doing with Bad Company. I have read every book of each series several times each book draws you in and won't let go. Michael thanks for the wonderful escape.
Wow! It's good to know that BA is not infallible. I have re-read this series many times now and the thing I really noticed the last time is Michael Anderle has come a long way from Death Becomes Her. The world building, the depth of all the characters, not just the main ones, but all of them. Also the details of the action scenes and the follow through of all those different threads. Excellent series and thank you for sharing your imagination with us.
Per usual outstanding! Per usual ended to soon! Per usual need the next one now! Per usual thanks for writing these wonderful stories! Love the Bad Company name! Very curious as to what their ultimate agenda is. It was a good thing BA made the mistakes in a more controlled environment, so that she doesn't make a final mistake later when they reach the Leath home world. Really liked the art work of the different aliens.
Enjoyed Bethany Anne and the gangs latest adventure. My complaint is that while some parts were fantastically fleshed out, descriptive, and complete...... Other parts felt like they were missing a page or paragraph, or skipped over to return later, but never did. especially the closer to the end we get, which was a drawback as the battle is one of the main things I was looking forward to and lots was glossed over or just missing 😟
This has been an amazingly entertaining series since book one. The ability to spread so many stories from such a simple start, and yet still have them all feel like they belong is amazing. Every time someone asks about a new series recommendation, this is the first one suggested! Sort of glad that work kept me from reading this on the day it came out, now I don't have to wait as long for the next one.
Reason for just 4 stars is that not even 25% of the book was actually about BA and we need more BA Michael Anderle and less boring Tabitha. I really liked the parts about Badcompany though was hilarious some of it. The BA fight scenes where not what I had been waiting for, really disappointed about those. You seem too be skipping so much BA as we continue in the series this is a misstake because Bethany-Ann is the no.1!
I won't recap about the story; I know I don't read reviews to get a rehash of what is already included on the book page. What I can say is that this is one of the best books I've read in the series. The author was appropriately descriptive without overwhelming you with details. The pacing and action were perfect. I recommend you read the books in order to get the full development of existing characters and the proper introduction to new characters. Love Bethany Anne!
The Best Sci-fi,Paranormal, Military, End of the World, and others book out there
Started this series cause I found book 1 free and I'm so glad I did. The author manages to hit just about every possible type of fiction genre while having everything make sense. The worst part is it will addict you from the start and the next thing you'll find yourself 17 books in bumming cause book 18 ain't out yet.
Loved it! Lots of the humor I've come to expect from t he TKG books. The action was beyond what was seen in the previous books. Kept me glued to my seat to the end. The best part was the return of the Queen Bitch and the introduction of Nathan's daughter Christina who is the perfect mix of both her parents with the obvious strong Bethany Ann influence. Can't wait for the next book!
