(Alternate cover edition of ASIN B07DD83GQV.)

Kara Buchanan relies on nobody but herself.

As an investigative reporter, she’s driven and focused, always looking for the next story: the next corrupt corporation to expose, the next underdog to champion. But it leaves no room in her life for anything else – especially love.

So when a strange old woman gives her a cryptic clue to a story she’s been chasing for months, Kara jumps on it. Little does she know it will lead her to a fate that’s been mapped out for her since birth, an earth-shattering secret about her past, and a man who will unlock her heart.

Aiden Harris feels torn in two. As heir to the lairdship of Clan Harris, his future is already set. But Aiden is restless. Having joined the king’s elite warriors, he has travelled all over the Highlands, searching for something – he just doesn’t know what for. So when a strange old woman offers him the opportunity to travel to the future to protect his clan’s secret, he jumps at the chance.

Little does he know that this will set him on a collision course with his destiny – and the woman who holds the key to his restless heart. Beset by enemies on all sides, can Kara and Aiden navigate the dangers of both past and present to find their true destinies and, in so doing, each other?

Courage of a Highlander is the sixth book in the Arch Through Time time travel romance series. Each novel can be read as a standalone and you don't need to have read the other books in the series to enjoy this one.

Mild variation on the previous books: the heroine does get to go back and bring chocolate and coffee to the time she's chosen to live. Thank heavens 🙄

One could ask why I keep reading these if I just complain about them but they are enjoyable, quick reads... And still 100% my kinda catnip 😂

This is an OK time-travel romance, but I did have some issues with it.

First off, Kara adapted to her unexpected time-travel way too easily to believe. I think she would have been a lot more freaked out by it then she was. Also, the highlanders would have been much more concerned with her strange talk and clothes than they were. They just kept thinking she must be "daft", and accepted her behavior as normal for someone from America. It seemed like they just accepted all her differences way too easily. I didn't buy it.

I liked both Aiden and Kara in this one. I did get a little irritated with Aiden a few times, though, because he was often very controlling and bossy. He knew that Kara was from the future, and knew that women of that time did not behave like women from his time (his mother was from the future, after all) -- so he should not have expected Kara to allow him to boss her around. He should have taken the time to explain why it was not safe for her to be so independent.

I didn't believe that Kara and Aiden were in love. They were definitely in lust, but they just didn't spend enough time together for me to buy their love connection.

I did like that the plot of this story was different from the others in the series. It had an interesting twist on the time-travel, with both Aiden and Kara traveling thru time. I also liked the twist on Kara's background. But there were still a lot of similarities in this book and the others in the series. All the love scenes and wedding scenes are very similar, as are the descriptions of the time-travel and the modern women's reaction to it.

One other thing bothered me, and this is minor, but it is a pet peeve of mine. The couple on the book cover should look like they are described in the book. In the book, Aiden is described as having raven black hair. Yet, the cover shows a man with light brown hair. That mistake may not be the author's fault, but it still bugs me.

The story was mildly entertaining, and I did like Irene, so I will read the next in the series -- but I probably would not continue the series if it wasn't free with Kindle Unlimited. Because of the issues I noted above, it gets 3 stars from me.

My rating system is below.
1 star -- Hated it, or did not finish. I usually only give this rating if some of the content is truly objectionable to me, like if one of the main characters does something really awful, and gets away with it.
2 stars -- Didn't like it. This rating usually means that I thought the writing wasn't very good, the editing was terrible, I didn't like the characters, or it had other major flaws.
3 stars -- I liked it, but had some minor issues with it. This rating means that there were minor editing issues, the story needed more character development, it was just too unrealistic, or had some other fairly minor issue. The majority of books I read get this rating – I do not consider it a bad rating.
4 stars -- I liked it a lot. This is a high rating for me, and I rarely give a higher one.
5 stars -- I loved it, and will probably read it again. Very few books are good enough to get this rating from me. The ones that do are usually classics.

An interesting take on time travel romance.

Publisher's Description:

My Thoughts:

This interesting take on a time travel romance drew me in. I like Scottish highland romantic tales and find time travel romance very engaging.
The characters are well developed and this story is very imaginative.

Kara, our heroine is a reporter who is set on a story which will be one to set off her career. She may suspect that the man she is reporting on is dangerous but little does she know how much.

Aiden Harris has traveled all over the highlands in search of his destiny but he has no notion what that entails. When he meets Kara and has the opportunity to travel to the future to protect his clan and their secret he can't resist the chance.

Will this collision course with destiny be Kara and Aiden's undoing or will their love win in the end?

I gave this book 4.0 of 5.0 stars for storyline and characterization and a sensual rating of 3 of 5 flames.
I received a complimentary digital copy of this book from the author to read and review. I also borrowed a copy to read with kindle unlimited. This in no way affected my opinion of this book which I read and reviewed voluntarily.

received an ARC copy of this book and am pleased to leave a review.

This was not your typical time travel romance. Aiden Harris has a big decision to make. As the first son of a laird, his parents expect him to take his place and lead the clan. He's been away for many years, fighting for his king. How can he tell his parents that he wants to leave again? Before he has to make his decision, Irene sends him forward through time on a mission.

Kara Buchanan is an investigative reporter and very much a loner. When Irene gives her a clue to pursue regarding the story she's been writing, she follows up on it, only to find herself in danger. Just in time, Aiden shows up to help her. Ultimately, the only way he can make her safe is to pull her back in time. She is NOT happy. All she wants is to get back home.

Aiden needs to keep her safe until they can find Irene, which puts his decision off for a while. However, once Kara leaves, he needs to settle his future. But does he really want her to leave? When he realizes he has feelings for Kara, and she realizes he has feelings for her, decisions must be made. But where in the heck is Irene?

Investigative reporter, Kara Buchanan, relies on no one but herself. She's currently trying to bring down a corrupt businessman and is given a clue by the cryptic Irene MacAskill. While trying to break into the building at the address she's given, Kara is attacked by a dog but is saved by a man who appears out of nowhere. Aiden Harris is trying to decide between two life paths when Irene sends him to retrieve a special object that must be kept out of the wrong hands. When Aiden bring Kara back with him to Scotland in the 16th century, she must learn to rely on others while Aiden soon learns the precious object he saved is not what he originally thought. When the Harris family discovers they have a traitor in their midst, things may soon take a wrong turn.

I'm thoroughly enjoying this series and this book, like the others, is really great. Katy Baker builds onto the families and the characters are both well-rounded and realistic. This is a definite "must-read" but start the series from the beginning.

Okay. I know this is getting old.I REALLY do love this series but, seriously, this has to be my favorite book and couple. This book has many twists and turns in it. For starters, instead of the lead character, Kara Buchanan, going to 16th Scotland to meet her highlander, Aidan Harris, the highlander goes to the 21st Century where he meets her. Then, the fun begins. Obviously you already know that they will end up going back in time to Scotland so it's not a spoiler.

As with a lot of the other books, there is a link to other characters in previous books. The chemistry between Kara and Aidan is very hot. I mean really hot. But you will also know that no romance goes smoothly. There has to be conflict. Jealousy. Anger. Hate. And, most importantly, betrayal. You will need to read the book in order to find out how it all unfolds.

So, come along and join Kara and Aidan on their great adventure through time. And bring popcorn. And chocolate. Because you have to take chocolate 🍫 back to Scot since it doesn't exist there. Yet.

Courage of a Highlander: Arch in Time Book 4
By Katy Baker
Kindle unlimited purchase
This series just keeps getting better. How can Irene keep everything straight she has her foot in a lot of things.
Kara is a reporter and she knows that Michael Devereux is up to some thing and she'll find out what even if it kills her and it just might. When she gets a visit from Irene everything changes.
It has been 3 years since Aiden has been home. He is returning home victorious, having beaten back a Danish fleet set on raiding all along the eastern coast. For that, King James had rewarded him for his efforts. When an old woman comes apon him and asked him to go to the future to stop some thing from happening he can't tell her no. His mother came from the 21 century so he knew what he was getting himself into.
These books have different H and h, and basically the same plot (h goes back in time though an arch and falls in love with H) but the subplot is different in each book. I do recommend this for readers 18 and over.

Swashbuckling and exciting tale

It’s not necessary to read all the previous books but they add history and insight to this story. Aiden Harris is second generation time traveler. Kara is a 21st century girl who doesn’t believe in magic. They are thrown together by Irene MacAskill for a reason they do not understand and have to deal with personal choices, villains in both time periods and their own feelings toward each other. There is a lot of feelings that occur. Aiden is interesting. He’s a warrior, hero, torn between loyalty to his king and to his family. He’s a searcher as is Kara and neither is sure what they are looking for. I suspect there are hints in this book or foreshadowing of books to come. This was definitely one of my favorites. Kara is fascinating and Aiden is so mentally strong. There banter when they are alone is very good and they seem to have great chemistry. I hope they appear in future books.

This novel was the first I have read of this author, thus also in her series as a standalone story and it certainly will not be my last... reaching to the first in the series.

I loved the subtly of this tale, slowly building into a whirlwind of romance, magic and a touch of wisdom. There weren’t too many characters to get your head around to begin with, although many secondary characters came forth as the story progressed. Although it wasn't particularly rich in detail for the era and place made it no less compelling and very much suited the easy style of the author.

I generally base how gripping a book is by the urgency I feel wanting to get back to it when needs must put it down, and this did just that! A lovely feel good story that I thoroughly recommend.

Courage of a Highlander(Arch Though Time Book 6)

The love story of Aidin and Kana. Aidin has a chose to be made. Will he become the liked of Clan Harris or take the Earldom of Marrschal?
Kara must chose between stay in the 16th century or return to the future.
Kara met Aidin when he save her life from a dog and he take her back to the 16th century to get away from a crime boss. Great story.

I loved every word

I adore time travel stories, in fact I love them above all else, and read as many as I can get my hands on.
Katy Baker has delivered an exceptionally good story here. It has everything a reader could want plus a few nice little twists to hold interest and keep moving along at a good pace. If you are seeking a really well written time travel book that has the ability to transport the reader back in time too the this is it.

All of the Arch Through Time books are wonderful! But Courage of a Highlander is the “Cream of the Crop”. The very Best of them all. Kara and Aiden’s story is filled with action, mystery and romance. I especially love time travel medieval romance and this ranks in number one position with a very few others. I recommend Courage of a Highlander so highly, I think everyone should read it they are a fan of this genre!

What a wonderful story. Two people, separated by centuries, met and together they will fullfillntheir destiny and that of their highlands. They fought against evil through two worlds, they deceived betrayal, ambition and greed. They discovered love and accepted willingly their fate as protectors, as guardians of the highlands. I couldn't stop reading once I started and so will you.

Good

I skipped books three, four and five, however, I still really enjoyed this book. I'm sure it would have added to the dynamic if I had read the previous stories. This one was a little different which I appreciated and enjoyed.
