I am not used to reading thrillers. Most of you are aware of this. But when Mrs. Kaur Sidhu contacted me and provided me a blurb, I was intrigued. She had me.
Storm is not your typical psychological thriller. It may not even be described as a dystopian novel. It takes place in a world that resembles ours very, very, closely; at the same time, there are some people born with supernatural powers, like Venice, Storm’s psychic grandmother, with the uncanny ability to predict the future. There’s also an underground agency that operates and monitor people’s moves without their knowledge.
This novel opens up on a frightening note: Evan Storm, the main character, has been experiencing some vivid nightmares for months; nightmares where he always gets some snippets of his past self. In a past life. An Evan that beat up his wife on a daily basis and hurt her in the most despicable ways.
Present Evan doesn’t know what these nightmares might mean or imply, but he’s so horrified by his past self, he goes looking for some answers.
At the same time, a new neighbour moves in and when Evan goes knocking on her door, he looks at the woman, and sees the doppelgänger of his past wife. The woman he hurt in those nightmares...
I was hooked. After that point, I knew I had to move faster through the story and get to the bottom of this. And when it was finally revealed that I was flabbergasted.
I loved, loved, loved, Venice’s character and most of my favorite lines, belong to her. A therapist with the ability to see the future and the burden of knowing what her intromissions might entail. When she decided not to alert her granddaughter about her husband’s impeding accident, I felt for her. A power like that, a burden like that, could drive anyone out of his mind. And yet, Venice was able to survive such a knowledge with her mind still intact…
I really enjoyed this book. And given the cliffhanger, the only question I’m left with is: where’s the second instalment?

As an avid fun of thriller novels, I was pleasantly surprised to see "Storm" ticking all the boxes, luring me in from the opening scene! Everything weaves together in such a captivating way that i kept wanting to read more and more.
Storm follows the story of Evan, a young man who's been recently having nightmares of his (not so noble) previous life. One day he meets his new neighbor, a doppelgänger of his "past-life" wife, Shadow. While trying to make sense of it all, Evan will find himself amidst a secret agency and long hidden family secrets!
I was hooked from chapter one. I loved the slightly futuristic setting and the variety of different characters, all morally grey! The plot is well thought out with a pace just enough to keep me interested!

Right away we are brought into the relationship of Derek and Samantha. Derek is an abusive husband and Samantha really does nothing but try and pelase him.
Then we Meet Evan Strom and he is in the future... well, his story takes place after Derek is gone. (Not a spoiler just a fact that’s important to Evans story) He is having nightmares and his overall health needs help.

⭐️Love that right away i was pulled right into the drama of their lives. And it kept me pulled in.
⭐️I liked the writing style and enjoyed the characters. But...
-2 The story seemed all over the place. I had to back tract and reread thinking i missed something because so much happened but I didnt know how we got to that point.
-1 It drew me in right away but I lost interest just as quick. Diabolical... meh. Gripping... it started out that way. Thriller... not so much.
The characters were plastic and once you figure out whats happening (because of the confusion I found while reading) the layout of the story was easy to see ahead of time.

This is one intense, twisted, addictive, complex, jaw-dropping novel! The aura of suspense increasingly bumped up my anxiety, notch by excruciatingly-taut notch. The palpable tension held me in thrall. The twists made me audibly gasp in shock. And, the fast pace of the wildly-captivating plot kept me swiping the pages feverishly. The characters were so realistic, showcasing the strengths and weaknesses present in us all. I did not want to put this novel down!

Storm: It’s a Curse to Remember is Book One in a series but can be read as a standalone novel and is a thriller which deals with past lives.
Evan Storm wakes up with terrible nightmares every morning about a past life where he is an abusive husband. He and his sister are orphans, and his psychic grandmother raised them from when they were small. Evan has just met his new neighbour Shadow Hex, and is shocked to find that she is the reincarnation of his abused wife from his previous life. Evan feels a bond with her and knows immediately that he must protect her at all costs. What Evan doesn’t know is that there is a secret agency out there that deals with problems for wealthy clients and that one of their agents, Marvin, used to be engaged to Shadow. Marvin wants her back and will use everything in his arsenal, which could include getting rid of Evan or anyone in his life. Can you fight against one who actually doesn’t exist? Evan’s sister Denise has her own problems, as her husband was in an accident and has lost 7 years of memories, including the knowledge that he has a son. Is there a happy ending in anyone’s future?
The story had a good idea behind it, but a lot of things let it down. Firstly the formatting was completely out. Letters of words were divided up between lines and many words had no spaces between them. Some pages had lines between paragraphs and other pages had paragraphs which just ran into each other. Sometimes the word order was incorrect and other times there were prepositions missing which changed the meaning of the sentence. The paragraphs were filled with head hopping and you could get multiple POV’s in a paragraph (including in some instances the POV of a cat). The only tie-in I could see with Denise’s story was the parallel between memories lost in her family, while Evan is struggling with more memories than most in his. Otherwise, the two parts don’t fit together at all and indeed have no impact on each other. Without giving away too much, the ending was very strange for me. Many past life memories are brought in which have no bearing on any of the current characters and actually make the ending more confusing. The intense fear of the agency and the build-up to a confrontation fizzles out and I hope that some of the character’s paths are expanded on more in the next book.
A story with past lives interfering with present ones as well as secret agencies with evil agendas does sound intriguing, but the story needs work to make it more coherent. I had to remove stars for the editing and formatting as well as for the storyline which left me hanging. I wish the author well and hope that she continues and grows in her writing.

I thought this book offered a good read. The storyline was well thought out and written with plenty of twists and turns to keep you glued to your seat. Will definitely be reading more from this author.

Storm: It's a Curse to Remember by Gurpreet Kaur Sidhu centers around Evan Storm, a man who can remember his past life. Night after night for the past couple of months, Evan has been having terrible flashbacks to his prior life where he horribly abused and mistreated his wife. Unable to figure out what these memories might mean, Evan decides he must accept his fate. That is until a woman moves in next door to him that looks eerily similar to his wife from his previous life. And although Evan sees this as his chance to right his wrongs, Shadow’s ex-fiancé has other plans.
When I first read the synopsis of this book, I was so intrigued by the reincarnation storyline. I haven’t read many books about reincarnation, but the idea has always interested me and this story seemed promising. Unfortunately, I was unable to get into this one. The major issue that I had with this book was that there was too much going on. Between the reincarnation storyline, Evan’s sister Denise’s problems, his father, and the Secret Eye agency, I felt overwhelmed by all of the details. On top of that, the alternating and seemingly unnecessary perspectives were distracting to me. I love when a book is told from multiple perspectives, but the story will lose me if the perspective alternates too quickly or without apparent reason. And that's exactly what happened with this book. The perspective alternated very quickly, sometimes by paragraph or even just a couple of sentences, and unnecessarily sometimes (i.e., writing from Mr. Jingles, Shadow's cat's perspective).
So while this was a great concept for a book, the execution is what lost me. Please keep in mind that this is just my experience with the book. I've seen plenty of positive reviews of this one, but it just didn't work for me. Huge thank you to the author for gifting me a copy in exchange for an honest review.

This was a very engaging story and premise with lots of action that held my attention. I found some parts a little confusing at tines and had to re-read certain sections but all in all I think it’s a good read.

Welcome to Lake View. An average suburb of average people where Evan Storm lives. Evan has been having horrible nightmares. Vivid, terrifying nightmares where he does things that are completely out of character for him. More terrifying is waking from that nightmare to find the object of the nightmare standing behind you.
Derek is the object of that nightmare, but why is he haunting Evan? And why do they look so much alike? Evan’s peaceful life as a school teacher is turned upside down by these nighttime visits. Derek’s mom, Venice, just happens to be a psychic who possibly could help with explaining these nightmares, but Venice has her own agenda to keep. Add in Shadow, a new neighbor with nightmares of her own.
Storm is Book One of a new series by debut author Sidhu. The combination of paranormal and thriller and secrets sounded so compelling I couldn’t wait to get my hands on this one. In many ways I was rewarded with reading adventure, in other ways, not so much.
I have mixed feelings about this book. The story was interesting and kept me engaged. At times, I struggled with the wording or dialogue. The names of some of the characters and locations seemed almost comic book like. Overall, the paranormal side of things kept this book interesting enough. I wanted to know what was going to happen to Derek and Samantha. What secrets was Venice hiding? What had happened to Shadow, and why was she so familiar to Evan? The premise of the book was fabulous. I loved the ideas, it was the execution of these ideas that struggled.
Most likely I would want to follow the characters of this book through the series to see where they land. Without spoiling, this book wrapped things up a bit too neatly at the end. There are few questions that remain, nothing as sinister as how the book started. I am curious as to where Ms. Sidhu is heading with the next book. As with some other books series and first-time authors, time does improve both the story and writing. I hope that is the case with the next book in this series.

What would you do if the universe gave you a second chance? Would you take the opportunity to redeem the wrongs of a past life? Would you do everything you could to find all the answers so everyone could get a happily ever after? Evan and Denise Storm were raised by their Grandma after their parents accident. Perhaps Grandma Venice could have stopped the tragedy of Evan and Denise loosing their parents with her gift of sight. What other secrets is Grandma hiding? Evan has flashes of a past life where he was married but mistreated his wife horribly, then Shadow shows up next door and all Evan can do is notice that she looks exactly like his past life wife. Is this his chance to right the horrible things that his past self did, or will Shadow's ex-fiance force her to come back home before Evan can right some wrongs.
Storm by Gurpreet Kaur Sidhu is not the usual story I go for. There is a lot of characters to follow, a lot of history to follow and some special gifts that drive this story. I would recommend Storm to anyone who likes mysteries, thrillers and likes the paranormal.

Storm definitely kept me on the edge of my seat, especially since each time I sat down to read it, a vicious and loud, Florida thunderstorm seemed to be going on in the background. I had no idea what would happen from one page to the next with all of the twists and turns and secrets and lies. The story also has several unique elements like reincarnation and foresight, providing endless intrigue. I did spend a majority of the novel feeling that there was just a little bit too much going on to logically follow. For instance, the side story of Evan’s sister and her husband and child didn’t really seem to fit or help the progression of the main plot. I also appreciated that the story was told from multiple perspectives, but some of the transitions were a bit abrupt for my tastes. The author does a very good job of giving you just enough information to be able to follow the twists while also holding back enough to keep you coming back for more and more. The descriptors are vivid, and the characters are relatable. All in all, if you are a fan of thrillers and a touch of the diabolical, Storm: It’s a Curse to Remember may be a great read for you! From marital disputes, to secret agencies, to romance, Storm is the full package.

I also appreciated that the story was told from multiple perspectives, but some of the transitions were a bit abrupt for my tastes. The author does a very good job of giving you just enough information to be able to follow the twists while also holding back enough to keep you coming back for more and more. The descriptors are vivid, and the characters are relatable. All in all, if you are a fan of thrillers and a touch of the diabolical, Storm: It’s a Curse to Remember may be a great read for you! From marital disputes, to secret agencies, to romance, Storm is the full package.

This book pleasantly surprised me, I didn't expect to enjoy it as much as I did. Everything weaves together in such a captivating way. The opening scene was great and I was instantly pulled in. I just wanted to keep reading and see what was going to happen next. I loved the pacing as well, you could tell that everything was really well thought out. There are also a lot of different characters that are all connected in some way and play an important role in the narrative. (There's a really helpful family tree sort of thing in the front of the book that made the characters easy to keep track of.) I do think this deserves a trigger warning for violence, domestic abuse and, suicidal thoughts/tendencies. So if you are sensitive to any of those topics I suggest you pass on this one.
Storm follows Evan, who has been having dreams of his past life, where he was a man who is physically and mentally abusive to his wife. But Evan is a good person and can't understand why he would do something like that in a past life, or why he's having these memories in the first place. He believes that there has to be a reason, that he has to somehow make up for all the horrible things he's done in his past life. And when he finds out the woman who just moved in next door is the spitting image of his wife from these memories things only get more interesting.
This story is action packed and full of twists and turns, I honestly had no idea what was going to happen. I definitely recommend this one!

Second chances come in the form of reincarnation in this complicated story about the Storm family curse. A family tree helps identify which characters are reincarnated. There are four stories being told: the story about Bruce, the story about Marvin, the story about Denise, and the story about Evan. Only three of the characters are reincarnated.
The story doesn’t hide the reincarnated characters. What is does hide is the reason behind it. I found this secret was anticlimactic. The entire premise was based on this one singular purpose, but it fell short. This was a lengthy and wordy story filling in the gaps with nonsensical information.
Just goes to prove that a prologue can mislead the reader into believing the story will be good. Another disappointing truth is judging a book by its cover. This one was chosen based on the cover and premise and neither delivered the way I envisioned.

I really enjoyed this book and found it to be a real page turner as well as an easy read. However, I did find it a little difficult to keep track of the characters at first and the weird choice of names didn't help.
What I think this book struggles from is that it is clearly a 'part one book' so there is a lot of set up and explaining and not a lot of action. When there is action it's very rushed and jumpy storyline that at times it was difficult to read correctly in your head and I had to go back and re-read paragraphs in case I had missed something.
Having said all of that I did like the book and I enjoyed the flashbacks, almost more than the main story. Like I said because it's definitely part of a series the book struggles from not being able to answer a lot of your questions.
All I can hope for is that we find out in the next book

The storm is a unique book, I can’t think of another book I read of its kind. It’s a mystery, thriller, and romance novel all wrapped up into one.
As the book begins with a look into Evan’s past. I was engrossed from the first chapter. The author ties everyone together and everything in a way that you really don’t see coming.
At first, you don’t realize that everything is related to each other. There are times where I literally gasped in the story line. There is so much I want to say about this book, but it would be a spoiler.
The end does tie up super-fast. A bit too fast for my liking honestly. I’m left with questions that were not answered. I hope there is another book so that we can have those questions answered.

This is the first book that I have read by Gurpreet Kaur Sidhu - I can say that it is not the typical book that I would be found reading BUT once I started reading it, I found it hard to stop!!! This is the first book of a series but you can read it as a standalone novel.

This book is so refreshing and different it is awesome, it started slow but after awhile it drags you in and you have to read the rest. The characters are great and more understood during the book, lots of twists and plots! Evan has lots of nightmares He doesn't get, no one seem to be able to help him, will he ever find out what happens to him?? His sister Denise has her own struggles with a husband who had a accident and doesn't remember the past especially their son. I personally loved the grandmother! And then their is Evan's new neighbor.
It is all about second chances would you take it ?? Even when you have to go through hell and back?? I am curious where the author takes us in the next book!

A gripping thriller. Characters are believable and it's an unusual story, well written and 'unputdownable'. Leaves the reader with a feeling of unease. If you're interested in reincarnation/karma and love a thriller then this book combines both and is definitely for you!

Storm started with a very intriguing take on a futuristic thriller. The potential for twisted past life karma to affect the protagonists current life is interesting. Although I found some of the writing and description to be a little forced I was rarely able to put the book down.
The plot could have used a bit of tweaking and an extra chapter or two more to tie up so loose ends. Overall though Storm is worth reading for those interested in a mysterious thriller with a futuristic feel.

I recieved this book for an honest review from Netgalley.
This stories premise had so much going for it. The reincarnated characters and the crossing of paths, but it really fell short for me. I almost stopped at page 100. I wish there was a bigger climax and the overall story was more clear. Sad disappointment for me.

What would you do if the person you loved in a past life moved next door in this life? Storm addresses this as well as also dealing with lies, deceit, and secret agencies from which to fear. With plenty of twists and turns this novel kept me enthralled from the beginning. This is a very good debut and I can't wait for Book Two to be delivered. I highly recommend this thriller!

I was not sure what to expect from this book because this is a new author to me. There were twists and turns I did not see coming. I was looking for a little more out of this book but I enjoyed it. I think I read this book in one sitting- I couldn't put it down! I loved getting to know the characters and see the mystery unfold. I can't wait to read it again for a 2020 reading challenge!

Evan has the gift of being able to remember his past lives. When he happens upon someone important from a previous life, he thinks it must be a sign and does all he can to make their relationship work this time around. But in doing so, he puts his life in danger because there is someone who refuses to allow Evan to rekindle this relationship.
This book pulled me in from the very beginning. The premise is a bit different between Venice being able to see the future and Evan being able to remember his past lives - it kept me intrigued. I did find the SEA story line to be a bit confusing and felt like I could have used a little bit more background on SEA and some of the agents. Overall, this was a great book with a new concept and I enjoyed the storyline.

Thank you to the author for sending me a copy of her novel in exchange for an honest review! I loved the premise of this book and the plot was captivating. I got hung up on some of the wording, and sometimes the shifts in time and perspective had me a bit confused and having to flip back and re-read through sections. Having said that, there were many suspenseful parts where I could not put this book down. If you're a fan of thrillers, you should definitely pick this one up! Overall I enjoyed it, and I'm interested to see where the author takes things with the second book in this series.

Action packed thriller with secret agents? Give me more!
My first text message to the author was to give me the next book. Haha.. I need to know what is going to happen next! I need more action, more thrill, more fight scenes (please tell me there will be more fight scenes). And I need it now! Wow.. I sound like a demanding child now. Oops.. it’s just because it’s that good! I really enjoyed it.
As a person who loves action packed movies, this book was all the while playing like a movie in my mind as I read it. It was exciting and interesting (though I feel like it should be heavier, with greater suspense and danger).
It was a fast paced read, written in a way that covers every POV which gives readers an insight into each character’s feelings and personalities. It was a little confusing to me at first but I got a hang of it after a while. It was a refreshing experience which I also enjoyed.
I can’t wait for the sequel of this book! It’s going to be great! Please hit me up when it is released. Haha.

Right off the bat this book grabs you if you have ever considered past lives. The idea that we learn from each life and how that precious life effects our decision making. This has been an obsession of mine since a child. Evan comes from a family of people who can see in different ways. But he struggles with his recent past life. It effects his own relationships and his personal life almost in an unhealthy way. I enjoyed this book so much. And am so thrilled to have been asked to read and review this book. At times the details can really hit home and can be hard to witness... But we'll worth every minute of reading. Looking forward to other books by this author
