C.S. Lewis meets CSI...when Amazon Bestselling author Michael Angel presents a new short novel in the 'Fantasy & Forensics' series.
She was summoned to Andeluvia against her will. In Centaur of the Crime, LAPD Crime Scene Analyst Dayna Chrissie had to solve a royal murder before war broke out between human and centaur.
But she's not out of trouble yet! Now Dayna's got a brand new case. When one of Andeluvia's dragon riders is found torn apart by his mount, she's got a golden opportunity to prove her worth to the new ruler and his nobles.
Dayna suspects a murder most foul. When evidence of a darkly plotted murder surfaces, she's got her work cut out for her. Yet in a land of treacherous nobles and war-mongering knights, Dayna must decide how far she'll go to uncover the truth - and what price she's willing to pay to expose it!
Note: Forensics and Dragon Fire is a short novel set in time between Book 1 - Centaur of the Crime and Book 2 - The Deer Prince's Murder.

Dayna's been put on probation for ditching her security detail on her previous adventure. Now she's got to prove to an overeager psychiatrist that she's fit for duty, in addition to perils of the more magical sort. Because Andeluvia needs her again, this time to investigate an "accidental" death that's so convenient some people suspect there might be more to the story.
This book has more focus on the mystery, although there's still some movement on the personal front, as Dayna's confronting her anger management issues. (And Galen's take on the whole rubber band "Snap out of it" bracelet is hilarious.)
Despite some similarities to the previous case in terms of diagnosing the corpse and site of death, there's plenty of new material too. For one, Dayna's not lacking for suspects. Pretty much everyone who worked with the deceased hated him for one reason or another, so it's more a matter of narrowing down who was MOST likely.
We also get a closer look at the dragons, which is something I had been curious about since last book. I like how disdainful Shaw is of the whole business. He's all for the superiority of griffins.
And I like at the end how Dayna has to confront what justice actually is, once she knows the truth.
Overall this is a much faster read than the first book (I didn't check if it was shorter but it feels shorter). It's still a good time. I rate this book Recommended.
This is a delightful book for me - then again, I enjoy the science of forensics.
Being cross-worlds is a delight, and this book does it well. The author does not let the story in one world cross into the other, which is a great temptation for some. Solving a case against all odds is a rough assignment, and having your skills questioned in a different way (and in a different world!) makes for an adventure without needing swords. The main character and others work together, using skills that are unique to them and their location, to start to solve the crisis. Using basic techniques, both situations are moved forward - and a bit of magic never hurts!
Another wonderfully imaginative tale. Dragons, griffins, magic deer. And murder. A great mashup of fantasy and detective thriller. It's fun to read a female protagonist who does not jump into bed with the male lead, but is smart, yet can kick tail when needed. And what a very cool setting! I can almost feel the dragon's hot breath on my own skin and smell the stink of sulphur breath. Not an overly long story. Just right for a quiet evening or afternoon.
Galen, the Centaur Wizard; Shaw, the Warrior Griffin; and Liam the Fayleene princeling are eager to help Dayna solve this latest mystery. She has the know-how, they provide the magic.
The Fantasy and Forensics series is becoming one of my favorite series. Fortunately, Michael Angel has written quite a few so I'll not run out of reading material.
This particular book is a short novel and a big bargain for only 99 cents.
Having solved a royal murder in the previous episode, our intrepid forensics expert, Dana Chrissie, is once again called to Andeduvia - this time to solve the murder of a not-very-well-liked, dragon-riding knight (purportedly by his young steed). Lady Chrissie, as she is know there, has quite a time separating lies from truth to discover the real murderer. This novella is another enjoyable romp into the world of centaurs, griffins, and murder by Michael Angel. I recommend it.
This novella is an excellent medical/detective fantasy. I love the world of Andeluvia and it’s marvelous characters. I loved book one of this series and can hardly wait to read the next. I highly recommend it.
Disclaimer: I received a copy of this ebook from the author and this is my honest and freely given opinion.
Short story about a human forensics expert who has been shall we say 'seconded' to a magical realm. After solving the murder of the king (in an earlier book which I am now keen to read) she has been offered a job and this story is a short story of a crime she solves while contemplating that offer and dealing with her suspension for disappearing in her ordinary life.
I enjoyed this Fantasy and Forensics story a great deal. I laughed out loud at Chrissie's interaction with the counselor. The writing is clever and easy to relate to. (The only negative for me is a rare smattering of curse words.) I have and will read more of the series.
I LOVED this book. I like the CSI aspect of it as well as being in a medieval setting. The characters are GREAT! Who could resist a centaur and a griffin as sidekicks? It has DRAGONS in it. The story is a murder mystery. I won't spoil the story. I can't wait to read the next book in the series. This one can be read as a stand alone I would highly recommend it.
I really enjoyed this short novella as it was a lot of fun while being anything but straightforward and I would love to see more like it in the future.
I was not able to read the first story but this one more than made up it in many instances. There is humor and action coupled with forensic details which made for interesting reading since all of the action occurred in a magical medieval setting. Well worth reading
A very interesting tale taking place between two worlds. From this world, a woman Police office magically travels to another world of dragons and other mythical animals to solve a murder.
A great read and hard to put down. Makes a great escape from the everyday life.
Dayna, Galen, Shaw and Liam make a great team in this medieval story. Dayna remembers to use her other abilities not just scientific ways to solve crimes. These are wonderful characters.
