This is a great start to a new series. The storyline is well-written, has some twists and promises to be an entertaining and engaging series with answers coming in the next books. The characters are defined, sympathetic and likable. I liked it. I voluntarily read an ARC and this is my honest review
2 but i feel bad because the author was clearly trying very hard and i am sure the story is a labor of love.
The plot was fine ish, but the whole beginning was dumped like a hard boiled egg in the readers lap. I was expecting an omelet. It felt like a first draft, like seriously large chunks were sketched out and hadnt been fully developed.
There is lots of adventure as this young woman learns who she really is and has a difficult future to face. I liked the story and the characters. It had some good twists that kept you guessing.
This book was quite the ride. The heroine, Nala, it taken from places to places without her consent by war and power. She is supposed to be a very powerful wizard but all through the book she never actually came into her power. I actually wonder if she ever will, it would be pretty cool if she actually didn't for a change.
The only thing annoying about this book is that the heroine's feeling about the King are really all over the place so we can't really decide if he is a good person or not. It would seem that he is but her feelings at the first encounter and several times after that make him rather scary as well.
There has been a war between Humans and elves for many years but it all comes to a head when an unknown sorceress begins to attack and take over elven territory. The elves try to find a way to even the odds between them and find her hidden daughter in the general common populace. Nala is the daughter of a farmer and his wife until their village is attacked by elves and she is captured. She then starts on a journey of survival, magic and love - the last one with the most unlikely of places as it is with the enemy. Can she be safe anywhere and find a place where she can be happy?
Lots of drama from the start in this story of one girl's journey through life and the various complications and opportunities that it throws at her. There are plenty of surprises on the way as well as a number of complications. A good start to the series and it gives a promise of some great story-lines in the future. Well written and easy to understand and feel. You will definitely feel a lot of sympathy for Nala and the sheer quality and quantity of changes and complications presented to her.
A wonderful collaboration from 2 great YA authors. Nala has lived with her parents in a quiet village. Periodically, her father goes and raids the elves. But, the elves discover the raiders whereabouts and her family pays the price. Her father is killed and she and her mother are enslaved. Her new family treats her well and she begins to fall for the young Lord. Then, she is taken by the king, told she's not who she thinks she is, and she's supposed to learn how to use her magic. The plot is well paced, the characters are engaging and believable. All in all a good series starter. (I just wish it was not a sequel.)
An entertaining book 1 that was well written and easy to follow. A fun story to set up the world and promises to get better as the series goes. Liked the twists and the questions that are raised. There was no deep plot but what was revealed here was interesting and makes me want to read the next book to see what happens next, especially how it ended. Did not see that coming. Plus I liked that the story was a clean read with some kissing. I liked Nala's character and thought even though she has it rough, it could have been worse.
Hmm I kind of enjoyed it. The story base is a good but there were so many holes In it I kept going back to see if I had misread it. The world is a bit Vague, so humans and elves are at war why? The main character is strong half the time then a tittering teen. She has her first kiss, loves it so great, then within 10 minutes seems to have completely forgotten it when she gets her next one. Couldn't understand why she never questioned herself about all that's happening to just accepts it all and moves roles a little too easily. I will wait and see what next episode brings
I soooo loved this fantasy book. From the start to the (too soon) end, I kept turning the pages. This book is so fast paced and full of adventure. Just as you think the storyline is going in one direction another twist and plot pops up and you are wondering What The Heck?!?!? Loved it. Nala is kidnapped by Elves and sold to one of their own as a slave. Talk about shock to the system. That, however, is only the start of her adventure as what follows is an adventure with action and romance. A must read book.
This book is just not interesting enough for me. Although it's the first book there is just too many questions and not enough answers. There is a plot but I don't know what it was, there were too many variables to be able to tell who to take sides with. Not much action and a little juvenile.
Touched by Magic is the first book in the Magic Truth series. While you could read this as a standalone, it does end in a cliffhanger for the next book. There is violence. This is a slightly different storyline for magic, elves, and humans. It is definitely worth reading and I can't wait to read more in this series to see what happens next.
This book is so brief, I don't even know how to judge heroes from villains. As with all K.N. Lee stories, the world building is exceptional and I was pulled into this world and it was as vivid as if I were there. Characters were well-developed and sympathetic and I'm anxious to see what happens next. Yes, of course, it's a cliffhanger.
I have this book 4 stars because her adventure was just becoming really very good and then it ended. What happens next? The characters were wonderful. The story line was great. The ending needs to be much longer, another 400 pages of so at least. Worth a read.
Wizards, Elves and magic make up this amazing storyline, with a touch of romance, a dash of adventure and all the thrills of a incredible read! Get ready to be sucked right into this book!
What a fantastic series starter filled with tons of twists and turns. The story had me captivated from start to finish, I have so many questions and am excited for more of the series so I can get answers.
This was hard to write because I’m not sure what to say. I honestly couldn’t get into this at all. I felt confused throughout the story. The characters well I couldn’t get a feel for.
