This book took me by surprise. I’ve loved Ward's work for quite a while, but she kicked it up a notch with a more picturesque, almost lyrical style. With phrasing like, “A flaxen brow lifted in a smooth arc over an oceanic eye,” and “Maybe I was in love with her. Not falling in love but already floundering in the depths of it, wading through the rolling hopes and the heady desires,” Ward really takes her work to the next level with this book. I don’t know if she was channeling Thoreau, Austin or Alcott, but I’m eager to read more from her with this style!
Sadie Danes is a theater critic who finally has the chance to interview the actor she's been crushing on. Tate McGrath is a self-made man with deep, dark secrets. As the two grow to care for each other, Tate's reluctance to open up to Sadie threatens their nascent relationship. Kept secrets are something that had a dramatic impact on Sadie's childhood, but as much as it hurts, if Tate can't share the deepest parts of himself, Sadie will have to walk away.
Ward is a must-read author for me, and although I had eight other books releasing the same week, all ahead of this one, I just couldn’t pass up grabbing an early copy of The Interview, as well as purchasing my own copy. One of the things I love about much of Ward's work is that she’s not afraid to tackle the tough but relevant issues. Her books make me think, evoke a wide array of feelings, restore a little hope in humanity, and encourage me to do my part to make the world a better place.
Sadie was a fascinating character because she thought she had it all together but learned through her relationship with Tate that there were a few things she needed to work on. Tate came from a horrendous childhood and managed to become a gifted, successful actor, yet the scars from his past still effected every aspect of his life. Through his relationship with Sadie, he learned a new way to deal with his childhood damage, and the healing finally started to happen. These two squeezed my heart in so many ways and I was completely on board in seeing them work things through and get their happily ever after. Their story is sweet, tender, steamy, emotional, healing and uplifting, and a definite must-read!

This was a nice story with a serious theme & likable characters. Your heart will hurt for Hero & his brother but I wasn't too crazy about the heroine. I can't pinpoint it exactly but I guess I was disappointed in her reaction when Hero finally tells her teh truth about his past. I just expected something "more" from her then what we got. For instance, if someone I loved told me a tale like that I would be crying bullets, hugging, have mega empathy & understanding, etc. - Not to say that she wasn't understanding and all, but something in her reaction was missing for me I guess....

To take the words literally out of Sadie's (heroine) mouth - Wow, just...wow. This story had me hooked from the star. The first half was mostly light and funny. The banter between Tate and Sadie was most enjoyable. The Coin restaurant scene was the best. I laughed a lot in the first half of the book.
And then in classic Alice Ward story, there had to be gut wrenching emotions and that's how the second half of the book was. I was bawling from the emotions, from the what of Tate's secret that was revealed.
This was an amazing read. It was well-thought and well-written and I was sucked into it from the first scene to the last. Alice did an amazing job with this book and I can't wait to read what she comes up with next.

Vivid descriptions,complex characters, well meaning friends and a loving brother are all contained in this steamy gripping romance built around the reclusive Broadway Actor Tate and the Theater Critic Sadie. Removing the facade to unveil Tate's dark and twisted past as well as Sadie's broken home brought poignancy as well as a deep understanding to the characters personalities while providing a cathartic purge to the characters resulting in a roller coaster of emotions,learning to trust and reveal one's true self, and finally a happy ending.
This novel is best if read by someone over 18. The seemlier side of being homeless in California as well as adultery are relayed.

What do you do when your job is to interview your celebrity crush and sparks fly? You roll with it and find true love. But when the story delves into a past that Tate would rather not make public will Sadie interpret that as his feelings are not real? Or will the actor finally walk into the light and be freed from his horrific past. With beautifully written characters and so much depth to the storyline that I did not want it to end - this is a must read. Once again, Alice Ward creates characters and worlds that the reader wishes they were part of.

I thought this book was so good! When Sadie scheduled an interview with Tate, the Broadway star she has crushed forever she knew it would be great for her career. As these two met and spent time together the attraction was there and strong. When secrets arise are they too much to get past? I enjoyed their story as they both had to realize what was important in life and in their heart. Huge fan of this author and this one did not disappoint.

You'll love Sadie and Tate's romantic story. She's a theater critic and met him when she interviewed him. The book is so well written and emotionally charged. You'll cry, you'll laugh and you'll weep with joy. Well defined characters and an enchanting story. I read a reader copy and voluntarily chose to write a review. Plenty of secrets and lots of twists to keep your interest.

The Interview by Alice Ward a five-star read that you will need to revise every page of. How does Alice Ward keep coming up with these amazing characters, mind that being said I don’t think its just the characters that makes this story, there is a depth to the story as well, its almost a story within a story when the history is revealed, and the story unfolds. Tate is one of my favourite men by this author, he could be just your typical main man, but he has an enigma quality to him, he’s an easy man to fall for in the end.

I’m going to start off by saying that no matter what I write in my review, it’s not going to give this book the extolment it deserves (yep, had to look up that word…I couldn’t even find the word within me to express my feelings of this book). Honestly, when starting out the book, it was a little slow to me, but that did not last long at all. The more I read, the harder it was to put down. Any extra time I had, I would use it to continue reading Sadie’s and Tate’s story, even if I only had time to read just a few pages (which was torture in itself because I didn’t want to stop). ‘The Interview’ evoked about every emotion out of me: amusement, angst, anger, sadness, heartbreak, shock, and most of all, leaving my heart very happy at the end. There was undeniable chemistry between Sadie and Tate..you could feel the sexual desire between the two. They had a playful banter between each other, which I just love. Also on a side note, Sadie’s best friend Jenna…she’s a force to be reckoned with.
This book is definitely going into my top favorites list. I love how Alice writes. Sometimes it’s like reading poetry with her descriptions and making what you read so vivid in your mind. This is the 4th book I have read by this author and one thing I do like, is that she portrays her heroines as strong characters. Yes, they may have heartache, tears, and difficulty trying to get over someone they love, but they don’t just accept what they are being offered if it doesn’t feel right. Some people would rather forgo their feelings to be with someone and some, no matter how much they want to be with someone, cannot compromise themselves (if that makes sense…I don’t have the power of words that Alice has lol).
I would totally give this book a higher than a 5 star rating if I could. I did receive a copy of this book to read and to provide an honest review. I hope you choose to buy it and enjoy the book as much as I did.

This author is always a delightful read for me since she doesn’t seem content to rest on her past success and regurgitate previous ideas. But this story. Whoa. What a mind-bending, heart-rending, emotional overload of a piece she has created with The Interview!
When Hollywood Hunk Tate McGrath returns to his first love in the bright lights of Broadway, the media-shy heart throb agrees to give an interview to theater critic Sadie Danes. What should have been a fairly simple event turned into a romp through several locations in an effort to escape Tate’s raving fan base as Sadie attempts to ask her previously planned questions. They soon discover they have an easy rapport together. Sadie is fun and witty once she overcomes her star-struck shyness at meeting her longtime secret crush. Over the course of the interview, Tate and Sadie both realize there may be more here to work with than just a professional relationship. The author heats up their banter with fantastic prose, with a special nod to Shakespeare that adds beautiful depth.
This story line is full of angst, personal struggles, and characters dealing with baggage from their past. Tate’s story isn’t just his own to tell—it impacts his brother’s life as well. There are secrets to be told, processed, and dealt with. Sadie didn’t necessarily deal with these revelations as I expected her to, due to events in her own past. Sadie Danes is a 26 year old critic that works for The Apple in New York and is assigned to review this play that is starring one of Sadie's all time favorite people, she went to College in Connecticut,,,, her Mom is Marla, her father was David and they are divorced because he was unfaithful with an RN,,,, Sadie has an exclusive interview with Tate McGrath after the new play "Concrete" ends for the night,,,,, she hears an awful lot of gossip just waiting for the play to start,,,, so, she writes it all down as questions to ask to him later,,,,,,
Tate McGrath is opening "Concrete" after a successful career on stage and then Off Broadway and lastly on the Hollywood stage in pictures,,,, he is now back to New York, on stage, for this new play,,,, He also knows he's got a critic reviewer who is going to get an exclusive interview after the play, but when he sees this critic, he ddoesn't mind at all,,,, she's easy on the eyes and she's nice to talk to,,,,and now he wants her to come with him to avoid the paparazzi at a small pizzeria to avoid the paparazzi. and then some people recognize him and they leave again and then he thought that maybe they could go to his place to finish the interview, as the paparazzi cannot follow thrm there,,,,
I really enjoyed this book by Alice Ward, but I haven't been disappoint in her work yet,,,, If you want a great story with a touch of mystery in it,,,, this is the book for you,,,, it's got everything you would want in a book and, of course, it's got those nice, hot, steamy scenes in it,,,,.... l would totally recommend this book to anyone

Sometimes a 5 star just isn't enough. Saying WOW or that was HOT is not exactly wrong, but, it doesn't come close to saying what I want to say!
Several years ago I took a walk a good way up Mt. Rainier. Turned around. And...…..was speechless! The person who took me, thought I didn't like the experience and even commented such to their family. The fact was, I never felt closer to God, thought clearer, wanted to laugh or cry at the same time at any other time in my life than at that moment.
This story for Tate/Tyler and Sadie and even Artie has moved me. I'm speechless! Yes, Ms. Ward never fails to have those incredible steamy intimacy scenes, the HOT covers, the alpha to drool over and the female lead a fellow female can be proud of. Her quality of writing doesn't disappoint either! Her story once again captivates you so much that it is hard to put it down. But this one was so very different!!!! Just WOW! My patient saw me crying and asked me if I was OK. When I looked at him, he said he never saw me like that before and it scared him. I apologized and said it was due to this story I was reading. That I'd like him to read it, for I couldn't explain in words, but it was simply that good, that amazing that he'd understand once he read it.
I don't often come across books like this. Yes Ms. Ward has produced many 5 star books, even many of my favorites. But this...…..this is a masterpiece. Thank you! This is a walk up Mt. Rainier. I read an ARC and I voluntarily leave my honest opinion.
The Interview is written so well that you become a part of the story from both a scenic perspective as well as emotionally. There is witty banter that makes you laugh out loud, stubbornness that makes you a little hot, sadness for the losses and devastation, abandonment, "grab a fan" hot intimacy, and so much love it's unbearable.
Alice Ward takes you on a ride that starts off gently and starts climbing for that massive fall into an abyss. She literally tore me apart bit by bit until BANG all the secrets from Tate's horrendous childhood come barreling out of the gate and just devastates you.
Sadie is a journalist for The Apple along with her best friend, Jenna (a force of nature). Tate is an A-List movie star in NY for a leading role in a Broadway play. Sadie is assigned to interview him. Sparks fly from the moment they meet but they keep it under control until the inevitable. They both have issues from their childhood that they must confront and deal with. Tate's past is just simply horrendous. As devastating as the reveal and the subsequent events in their relationship are, the ending was wrapped up so amazingly well that Alice made all the pain and tears well worth it!
A definite purchase to read again and again!

An amazing journey, of which the reader becomes a fellow passenger!!
Totally captivating story of Sadie, theatre critic and interviewer and Tate McGrath, Broadway star, turned Hollywood actor, and once again Broadway star. Tate does not grant many interviews, in fact expects this to be his last for the foreseeable future. Sadie has followed Tate’s career from the beginning and is fearful that his stint in Hollywood will have hampered his ability on stage.
The interview reveals much about both characters. Once Sadie overcomes her initial hesitancy she treats him as a person not an icon. The fans keep driving these two deeper into hiding to complete the interview without interruption.
Tate pursues Sadie liking her personality and humor: “She’d treated me like a normal person, which, in my hyper-famous world, was a treat. She was sophisticated and confident without the arrogance that tended to come with such confidence, yet she’d had a measure of quirkiness and uncertainty that made her adorable.”
When it becomes apparent Tate is hiding something Sadie confronts him for the truth, suspecting there is another woman. The results are both devastating and revealing. Definitely a stellar read – which I can give my highest recommendation!!

An emotional roller coaster of a ride between Tate, a famous actor who returns to Broadway and Sadie, a reporter who reviews plays and gets an exclusive interview with Tate. A great read with steamy scenes and sensitive issues that the author tackles beautifully. My heart hurt for Tate and even a few tears were spilled on his behalf. Sadie was a different story, I did like her and my heart hurt for her as well but what she does near the end...I lost respect for her, even though I sort of understood why she did what she did but it also left a huge question that was left unanswered regarding her....did she tell him her secret ? I also didn’t like what he had to do to prove himself to her, he should want to do it for himself, not her and considering the secret she had no right to make him feel like she did and be cold towards him.
A read with ups & downs, laughter & anger, and a man I wanted to shield from the world, wrap up in a blanket and hold him close. A read I would have loved to give 5 stars and more because of the depth of emotions that played out and would have until what Sadie does when returning home from their trip.

This was an emotional read that will suck you in and give you all the feels! It was heart-wrenching, smoking hot and the passion was incredible.

I really need to say this before going through with the review. At first I had some doubts about this story. Don't get me wrong but when I started reading this book and I realized that I took the story for granted, I was a bit confused because I'm used to Alice's surprising stories. On the other hand as the events continued to develop, my interest had been poked and then I understood that Alice once again had pleasantly taken me aback. So if initially the story seems a typical romance between a famous actor and a theater critic, no worries because there is so much more than this. In fact Tate, the main character, is actually hiding some deep secrets that could destroy what he has gained through these years but mostly he can ruin his wonderful relationship with Sadie. So this book is not only so overwhelming, owing to those secrets that will soon be revealed in front of the reader but it is also a wonderful story between two people with past issues that finally find their happily ever after.

Went from Enjoyable to Not
The Interview had a lot going for it, the mysterious Star and the witty Critic who was about to have the biggest interview of her career. When they meet you felt the sparks, Sadie was funny and quirky while Tate was at his panty melting best. The prose started to be a problem, too much that at one point when a question was asked it took a page and a half before the answer was given, by then I forgot what the question was and had to go back. But I was engaged in the characters enough that I kept going. Then Sadie turned into someone I started to despise. After Tate shares with her his devastating secrets by taking her to see what he never wanted anyone to know, she makes it all about her. Really? Dating a guy, a famous one for a month does not entitle you to become this "oh poor me" witch who claims to be falling in love, but leaves him again after he pours his heart and soul out about the worst times in his life. Sorry Romeo, but there are other Juliet's in the sea.

“The Interview” by Alice Ward is an amazing book you must read. The book flowed so well between each scene. This book was exciting from the first chapter. Tate and Sadie have terrific chemistry and a sizzling hot romance. I enjoyed these two characters tremendously and they are very well developed so you feel like you know them both intimately. Tate is an A-List movie star who is back on Broadway. Sadie is a Broadway critic for a New York paper who gets a hard to come by interview with Tate. Sadie and Tate hit it off immediately. Early in their romance Sadie realizes that Tate will not share anything personal with her and this is where the emotional rollercoaster begins. I won’t give spoilers so you just need to read this gut wrenching, moving book. There is romance and excitement throughout the book. If you read this book you won’t be disappointed. There is a theater critic named Sadie, who gets the opportunity to interview an actor that recently returned to the theater after being in two extremely successful blockbuster movies. She has been following his career since it began and is in awe of his acting ability. Then there is Tate, who is a gorgeous alpha mega star but still down to earth. When they meet there is just something about Sadie that draws him in. He can't believe how well they get on and continues their interview to keep talking to her. One thing leads to another and they start to date. Tate has a big secret though and won't really discuss anything really personal with Sadie nor take her out in public. Will this be the down fall of their relationship? You'll need to read the book to find out. This book tackles some serious topics and deals with them well. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and it is definitely an easy one click.

It’s a well written story, the characters are great, and I loved that the story seems to be simple with the description of how Tate seduces Sadie, but the second part with his secrets, was unexpected. Alice Ward manages to talk to us about social problems (no spoiler) without being annoying, and I liked the way she gives the keys to the reader to have a thought of these problems, even if the story is a romance.
Sadie is a theater critic and she was following Tate’s career, an actor, before he was famous. He started to have a diva reputation, and even if she’s attracted to him, she hopes she will know with an interview, how much he changed. But after few hours with him in his world, she discovers a man who is completely different of what she was expecting.
But, he didn’t tell her everything and trust is the most important thing in her life in a relation.

The Interview by Alice Ward is full of complex characters, rollercoaster of emotions, sizzling chemistry and a fantastic plot. Sadie and Tate’s relationship will have you awwwing over how great they are together and then feeling your heart break at how everything is going between them. There is the right funny moments and then the emotional FEELS will about take you out. I find that Ms. Ward writes stories that have you laughing one moment and crying the next. I enjoyed the complex relationships shown in this book and the trust issues which ends with if Tate and Sadie finally end up together. This is a story that will have you reaching for tissues because of the serious rollercoaster of emotions all thru the story. This story hung around long after the book was over. This is a book you should read if you love gripping emotional romance reads.

This is another terrific story from Alice Ward that drew me in from the beginning. I loved the interactions and flirty banter between Sadie and Tate when they first met. Their attraction is immediate and intense and their romance unfolds organically. Tate’s secret past however, puts their future into jeopardy. Can he come clean about the dark demons that haunt him and the secrets he keeps to protect his brother? And what about Sadie – can she move forward knowing that Tate’s evasive about his early life? This story is very well written and features well-drawn characters. There’s laughter; the joy of a new romance; secrecy; mystery; tragedy and heartbreak – a wide range of emotions. It’s pretty much what we’ve come to expect and enjoy from one of Alice’s books. I received an Advance Reader Copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

This was another incredible gut-gripping book by Alice Ward, and I just loved it. It started out as a rather cute interview story with great
characters, and then Wham, the reader is thrown into a world of appalling secrets, unbelievable surprises and heartbreaking pain. It reminded me of the story of Humpty Dumpty--he was sitting peacefully on his wall, and then he fell and nothing and no one could put him back together again. There seemed to be no way that all the painful issues presented in this book could be resolved, but then Alice brilliantly, piece by piece, put the story back together again and made it one of the most beautiful love stories that I have ever read.
I volunteered to review an arc of this book. After reading it, I had to buy it. I highly recommend it. It would be a shame to miss out on the pleasure of this story.

This was a fabulous read. It will take you on one emotional rollercoaster ride. Trent is a famous actor who has returned to Broadway and Sadie is a reporter who is interviewing him after his opening. What starts out as an interview turns into so much more for them both. Trent has secrets about his past that he doesn't want to get out. These secrets have caused him to not have serious relationships. When he starts caring for Sadie more than he thought he could, he knows he needs to tell her everything. Sadie knows he is keeping secrets and when she confronts him, what will happen? If Trent tells Sadie about his past will she stay with him or leave like he is afraid of? Alice did a great job telling this story and when Trent's past is revealed it is heartbreaking. Have some tissue nearby. This has dual pov and I could not out it down.

Alice Ward has brought her A game to this one. The Interview is a well written story that flows easily with relatable and lovable characters and sub-characters. Sadie Danes is a Theatre critic for "The Apple", a newspaper in New York. Tate McGrath is a Broadway Star turned actor that has returned to Broadway. There is only going to be one interview given during his performance this run, and Sadie is the journalist who get to do it. She's followed his career since he first appeared off Broadway. Trying to be professional and not go all fan girl is the goal. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and was pleasantly surprised at the twist it took in the telling. True to Alice Ward style, the passion between her main characters is off the hook. A great read.

Im amazed every time I pick up and read a book by Alice. This book was no different. You get pulled in thinking , hey I know where this is going but by then the story has captured you and it’s changed. Sadie is just a girl trying to find her place in life. Tate seems to have found his. Both have had their hearts broken in different ways. Sadie come to Tate looking for a story but what she finds is so much more. While Tate has been protecting his life from the world and only letting them see the pieces he wants, something has always been missing and maybe Sadie can fill that void but at what cost. It took me a little bit to get into it but once I did I couldn’t put it down. I’m always looking forward to Alice’s next book. This one was great! Enjoy!
