What Remains: Quarantine contains three short stories leading to up the events that took place in What Remains: The Outbreak. Each short story gives more depth to the chaos that devastated the nation of Japan.

Minori is a young, hard-working news reporter looking for her big break. She searches for the reason behind military occupation, amidst rumors of civil unrest, occurring in a city north of Tokyo. Digging into the why the military is present she discovers a horrific truth, and won't stop until she exposes it to the nation.

Yuuto enlisted in Japan's Self-Defense Force to make something of his life. Instead he stands guard at a military base that rarely gets visitors. One morning that changes; quickly the military is called to action to stop a virus that is spreading like wildfire through the nation. Yuuto and his platoon are sent to Tokyo as a last ditch effort to stop the infection. Isamu is a simple bus driver for the metropolitan area of Tokyo. The military asks for Isamu and his fellow drivers to help them transport rioters to stop an uprising, but it's quickly made clear that something isn't what it seems.

Dr. Fumio is considered one of the top researchers of his field as a Virologist. He gladly accepts his government job, complete with his own lab, assistants, and nearly unlimited funding. The only thing about his job he doesn't enjoy is the secrecy behind it. Secluded in a secret lab he spends most of his time sleeping in his small office, tirelessly working towards a breakthrough of any kind.
