I was interested in Yoga as an expansion of my Calisthenics to gain insight into- and learn the principles of Yoga, to try out some exercises and gain a deeper understanding of it and what it does for the body and how one can practice it. This book was Golden! So simple, anyone can understand, and easily get started. I only ever read this book, and I feel now I know and understand Yoga enough for my liking and could if I wanted to become a more serious practioneer. This book came complete with exercises fully illustrated in detail for how one goes about doing the various with complementary text explaining each exercise and how it should feel and what one can expect from it. Really good read, everyone should read this book truly. Yoga is a very old practice which has historically proven to improve lives and allowed us to gain access to both a deeper understanding and heightened control of our bodies via breathing as well as unlock our potential for movement and strengthen us for everyday life. Vital knowledge for our current sitting-focused society and lifestyles.

I've wanted to get into yoga for quite some time now but instead of just jumping into doing exercises I wanted to learn about what it actually does for the body and the mind. And this little book is great for complete beginners - like me!

One of my favourite actresses inspired me to get up and start doing something and so I bought a mat, whipped out some sporty clothes and found an online course.

A lot of "beginner" courses already expect you to know some of the terminology, such as "sun salutations". This book explains these in a simple way. I love how it explains all of the poses step by step - if it was an audiobook you wouldn't even have to look at what your instructor is doing, it gives so much detail about which muscles to move, when to inhale and exhale.

The book goes through standind, seated and lying poses and not only does it explain each pose, it also gives you suggestions about the sequence, in which you should use them.

It was a useful little read when I was first starting out with Yoga. It helped me understand some of the terminology and a few basic bits of etiquette in class. I imagine it won’t be any use to anybody already savvy with Yoga though

Good book, nicely illustrated and a good step-by-step reference guide for the positions and concepts behind yoga practice.

This will happily occupy the shelf next to my yoga blocks and joss sticks! :)
