Catherine Forrester Siddall has spent her entire life fighting darkness and the things that live in it, feuding with demons who want to use her for their own purposes. While investigating what should be a routine haunting, she encounters something that even she never considered to be a real possibility. The woods around her go black, and when she comes around things have changed. It's not until she encounters a local man that she realizes just how her situation has been altered. Catherine must not only adapt to life with her new frontiersman companion, but also try to find out why, and how, she has come to be in the past and how to get back. Things get even more complicated when something begins attacking the locals, leading Catherine and Garrett to seek out further help. She never expects that help to come from a man with a story all too similar to her own. This is the first novel in the Catherine Siddall Series.
A. M. (Ashley) Sanders was born in the Midwest, but eventually found her way to England for a while via a History degree and an Archeology masters program.
She has always had a passion for books and reading, which evolved into creating her own stories, inspired by the tales of the supernatural that have captured her attention for years.
I felt that the author blended humor, historical fiction, and supernatural phenomenon to create a well rounded read. Very good plot line and a dynamic story. The main character is complex and yet very relatable. I can't wait for the next book!
A good solid start to a new series. The beginning starts off a bit slow, but it's worth it to keep going. You won't be disappointed. Even somewhat knowing what the book was about going in, the plot was executed in a way I wasn't expecting and I really enjoy when that happens.
