Fergus Mackinnon became the Laird of Achnasheen in the Western Highlands of Scotland at the very young age of nine. Almost 20 years later, he’s very much respected on all fronts within his clan. He’s extremely confident and expects his decisions to be law and his people never question his rule. That is until he comes upon a carriage accident and rescues Marina Lucchetti, an Italian artist there to paint pictures of the region for a commissioned sponsor. She’s independent and talented, answering to no one, including her father who is traveling with her. When she and Fergus collide, it’s pretty explosive.

Fergus always believed that his mate would be someone who would obey and respect his decisions and points of view, without question. When he found himself inexplicably attracted to Marina, it was confusing. She was equally as appalled at her feelings for someone who was the antithesis of her ideal man. And therein lies the rub as these two grappled with their feelings. I really liked both of them for who they were and their commitment to staying true to self. It was delightful seeing both of them off their game and figuring out what to do with these feelings they couldn’t explain.

One of the real treasures of this story was the authenticity of the characters. The dialects of both were well researched and I truly felt like I was “hearing” the Italian woman and the Scottish laird. The setting was also lush, beautifully described and an essential part of the story. While it may have taken too long for their relationship to develop (a bit angsty for me), it was lovely once it did. This was a beautiful story with two well-designed characters who were quite different from those typical of the era.

(I received an advance copy from the author in exchange for an unbiased review)

I am an observer, not the heroine...I am an observer, not the heroine...

I tell myself frequently that I must learn to be an observer when it comes to reading. I have a habit of slipping myself into the role of the heroine. Whether it be as a damsel in distress, ruler of the world, seductress, mad scientist, fierce executive, content housewife or even an artist, I become that person. BUT the problem is I am not all those things in real life and sometimes I just don’t get the part I’m supposed to play.

I can’t be unemotional while playing the fierce executive. There would be words and maybe some yelling if I was expected to *Do as I’m told* without any input. I’d feel like a goose if I attempted to be a seductress. An artist…HA HA HA!! I’m also not the type of person who puts her career ahead of love or family. My independence wouldn’t be my burden when I need help. My own happiness wouldn’t be sacrificed to make a point for women’s rights.

So, playing Marina was a little tricky for me. She’s fiercely independent, puts her career ahead of everything, a seductress without trying and an accomplished artist. All of those things are hard for me to play…THEN…SHE’S OK WITH BEING A MISTRESS!!!

Oh boy, my eye was twitching, arms were crossed and I was squirming with uncomfortableness. It’s just something I struggle with in historical romance. Now, sex before marriage in a contemporary…bah…hardly a consideration. Sex before marriage in a historical romance…I’m swooning like a scandalised matron.

The thing is though, it wasn’t an insult to Marina. Even though Fergus (we’ll get to him soon) is doing it for his own pleasure, he’s actually giving her an opportunity to get what she desires without consequences. Her career and reputation will not be ruined by having an affair away from prying eyes.

OH…ENLIGHTENMENT!! Not every woman wants to put a ring on it (nodding my head with this knowledge FINALLY sinking in).

Now Fergus…I really liked Fergus and his bossy ways but I have to admit that his offer of pleasuring Marina left a bad taste in my mouth. Oh his, *mo chridhe* this and *mo leannan* that, you’d think he’d have cottoned on a little earlier that it wasn’t just about the sexy times. Bloody knuckleheads, the both of them. I knew it was more than lust from almost the beginning.

Full credit goes to Anna Campbell for giving us a hero that can step out of his comfort zone, doesn’t give up at the first hurdle and isn’t afraid of putting his heart on the line. Fergus was definitely a hero I came to admire and love by the end.

OK, the storyline was good, the sexy times were HOT and the characters were original and engaging. If I could find fault with anything, it would be that their love story was it. Sure, her career and concerns for her career were interesting but I almost missed that it lacked drama. SHOCK HORROR!! There wasn’t any outside force trying to steal the fair maiden, they weren’t embroiled in a whiskey rebellion and lives weren’t really in danger. Sure, there was a couple of scenes where Marina’s life was at risk BUT Fergus was there.

HE’S A SCOTTISH LAIRD WITH MUSCLES AND STUFF!!

Of course, he’s going to save the fair maiden. Maybe I'm not supposed to have as much faith in Scottish Lairds or something? It’s just that I haven’t met (read) one yet that doesn’t have herculean strength and force of will.

Anyways, Anna Campbell has again delighted my senses with a captivating highland historical romance. Sure, my eye twitched, but once I put on my glasses and started observing instead of playing, it all came good. I can’t wait for more in the series.

Short and sweet, this is a snack before dinner kind of romance. The heroine was burned by a married cad back in Australia, and is not quite ready to handle the completely nude Italian man drinking an espresso in the apartment she's rented. She's more of a cappuccino girl. ha. Not really.

Anyhoo, the couple decide to live platonically as the H goes about doing what he does, and the h is an apprentice to a famous designer. Proving that this is not an HP, the heroine actually works, and the couple wait for more than 5 minutes to leap into an affair.

Points off when they do the H monologues to himself, It will be as long as the passion lasts...." Ho hum. I hate that.

A minor major misunderstanding along the lines of an engagement announcement with the H and an armful of Italian bombshell has the heroine pack up and leave. The universe smacks the H with a skillet and a HEA ensues both romantically and in employment.

Mucho caliente.

Fergus is a wild Scots warrior. Marina is a popular artist in Florence. They meet when Marina has a carriage accident with her father. They are strongly attracted. He loves her spirit. Hero and heroine become lovers. They fall in love he wants marriage but she is an artist and she doesn’t want to sacrifice her career. She is afraid she will lose her identity as an artist if she becomes a wife. But he is proud of her talent. He loves her and supports her fully and he proves it. Marina accepts his marriage proposal and they get their sweet HEA. We get a sweet epilogue with pregnant Marina and hero and heroine blissfully in love. Great read with loving characters. I recommend!

A challenging, amusing and fun romance between two stubborn and self-confident people. Fergus is Laird of his estate and Marina is an artist who has overcome prejudice and barriers to achieve success. When an accident brings them together, sparks fly. I adored Marina. It is rare to find a heroine as independent and unique as she is. The author is an excellent story-teller. I enjoyed this book very much and will be looking for more from this author.

MS Campbell has taken me on magical trip back in time to the Scottish Highlands, my dream holiday location, with the start of her new series. I always look forward to a new Anna Campbell book and I have never been disappointed, this one is a beauty, sensual with such witty banter and humour throughout, this journey to a HEA that is between two very strong and stubborn people will have you turning the pages, clear your calendar because you are not going to want to put this one down once you start.

Marina Lucchetti is an artist a very good one and she has stood her ground to make her name in her chosen field against the men and she is one fiery and stubborn heroine, she and her father have travelled to the wilds of the Scottish Highlands so she can do some paintings, but when disaster strikes her world is turned upside down when she is rescued by the devilishly handsome Laird Fergus MacKinnon, and the sparks fly.

The Mackinnon as he is known to his people is a strong man, a ruler one who’s orders and wishes are always completed but when he rescues the beautiful, feisty and spirited Italian artist from the raging river well let us say that his life is about to change, he has never met a woman who is so determined to choose her own path in life and the next few months are going to prove delightful to say the least with some bickering that had me smiling.

What a story this one is I loved it from page one, these two people are so made for each other both strong and feisty they both stand their ground but when cupid shoots his arrow and it finds its mark there is no turning back for them, love and emotion flows from the pages, I must say it takes a bit for Fergus to convince Marina that together they can fly to the moon and back but when he does the stars shine, bliss. Thank you MS Campbell another keeper, one that I highly recommend.

The book opens with a young Fergus MacKinnon meeting Hamish and his cousin Diarmid on the moors late at night, the younger boys are lost and Fergus leads them to safety. They have an amusing discussion of what they consider the perfect wife and Hamish and Diarmid don't agree with Fergus, who believes that a quiet, obedient, sweet woman is the ideal wife...

Fifteen years later, Fergus comes across the scene of a carriage accident and see a stunning woman trapped inside. He rescues her and her father, bemused by the woman who doesn't do as she is told and seems to think that she can help. He takes them to his castle, her father's leg is broken and she learns that he will be required to stay for at least a month.

Marina Lucchetti is an artist, she is 1/2 Italian and 1/2 English, but has been raised in Italy. She has worked hard to earn recognition for her art and is very independent and self sufficient - she doesn't like this man telling her what to do or what is best for her or her father - she was commissioned to paint Scottish landscapes for a client is dead set on going to Skye. When Fergus informs her that her father will not be able to go and tells her she should stay at Achnasheen and paint - she bristles - she doesn't care how handsome the man is, he is not her keeper and will not dictate where she goes!

But she does admit that she can't go alone and she doesn't want to leave her father alone, she grudgingly agrees to wait to see if the landscapes will be acceptable. But if they are not, she is leaving.

Fergus and Marina are both strong, independent, stubborn people and they clash quite a bit at the beginning, but they are both reasonable and Marina does see the merits of Fergus' suggestions. Things are going well and she realizes that she likes him, but her art must come first and to be successful, her reputation must remain pristine. When Fergus suggests they become lovers, she is opposed, she has too much to lose. But when she has a brush with death, she reconsiders and they embark on a temporary affair.

As the weeks pass, they grow closer and neither is looking forward to saying goodbye - but Marina's life is in Italy and Fergus is tied to Scotland - can there be a HEA?

I really loved this story - It was a straight up love story, no villains, no complicated plot to follow, just a boy and girl falling in love and learning that love is worth any sacrifice. Sigh... Marina and Fergus are wonderful characters, both strong and used to being in charge, watching them learn to compromise was both amusing and poignant. The love scenes in this book were steamy without being overly graphic, the very few secondary characters are great and added to the story without competing for attention, the banter between Fergus and Marina is very entertaining and the ending is sigh worthy. If you are looking for a really good love story without a lot of complications and side stories - this is the book for you!! I am happy to recommend this book and look forward to Hamish and Diarmid's stories!!

Absolutely Stunning!! I love handsome rugged Highlanders, especially if they are created by Anna Campbell. The MacKinnon, Fergus is Laird and used to people obeying him without question. His word is law, one tells him no or argues with him ever. Until the day he rescues a headstrong lass and her injured father from a carriage accident on his land. Fergus has met his match.

Marina Lucchetti is a talented artist who has been independent for a long time. She travels with her father as a chaperone, but she is the one in charge. She has always been able to fend off unwanted advances from men who think she is available for seduction because she is unmarried and an artist. She will never fall in love or marry. Her art is her life and there is no room for a husband who would expect her to put him first over her art.

Of course, they are immediately attracted to each other. Fergus doesn't see the harm in enjoying each other while her father's leg heals. When he finds out she is an innocent he knows that she is out of bounds. If Marina doesn't want him he will respect her decision even though it will be torture.

Marina is out of her depth with Fergus, she has never met a man like him, she has never been tempted before. She is confused and uncertain for the first time in her life. She knows that her art has to take precedence, but her body is telling her something else entirely.

Will Marina and Fergus be able to keep their hands off each other. You have to read this book.

Anna is a master storyteller. I loved Fergus and Marina. Both are strong, stubborn and honorable. The respect that they have for each makes this story so amazing. Fergus recognizes Marina's vulnerabilities and will not take advantage. Marina knows she is safe with Fergus, he will protect her with his life.

Anna's writing is witty and emotionally satisfying. The sensual attraction is hot! She will keep you enthralled from the first page to the last. I am a fan and will be adding this one to my keeper shelf with all my other Anna Campbell Historical Romances. I highly recommend this book.

This is another sizzling sensual story that will have you turning the pages as they heat up on a match made in heaven for two people who are made for each other, Australian fashion designer Sonia Rossi and gorgeous handsome Italian Lorenzo (Renzo) Veracini sends sparks of lightening to each other on their first very sensual meeting.

Sonia has taken up a position in the House of Conti this is what she has always dreamed of and is determined to do well so getting caught up in a relationship is not in the plans after her last relationship that left her feeling dejected, but what can a girl do when she meets the flatmate she didn’t know was going to be there in all of his glorious nakedness and he does make her feel so very good.

Renzo is staying at his cousins apartment and is stunned when he discovers that his cousin has allowed a friend of hers to stay there for a while and he discovers what a beautiful feisty and in need of some good loving woman, has walked into his life and he woos her so lovingly and with such care that soon he is hard pressed to not want to spend all of his waking hours with the beautiful Sonia.

Really how long does it take to fall in love? When the heat and magnetic pull between two very beautiful people is so strong and Renzo is so good at treating Sonia the way she deserves to be after her last relationship, of course true love must have its ups and downs but happiness prevails, this is a quick steamy and sensual read that left me sighing and smiling what a fabulous story I loved it, thank you MS West for another awesome story one that I highly recommend.

This is a story of two people who both believe they are in charge , dominance abounds causing unease between the two .
But who makes it out on top , or maybe they can come to a more amicable arrangement.
A wonderful new book from Anna Campbell, she pours such emotion and power into her characters, it’s hard to put her books down once started , but would you really want too with such a stunning backdrop of the Scottish Highlands to keep you amused.
Loved both the book and adore this author.
Can’t wait for more.

How wonderful! We have two strong willed, confident and poised people looking for, and finding, love without knowing it. They drive each other crazy with their dictatorial assertiveness, which turns into, “Me thinks thou dost protest too much.” Watching them each learn the art of compromise was charming! I completely enjoyed this story. Once again, Ms. Campbell brings us characters that we can get behind, cheer for and enjoy.

Marina Lucchetti has worked so very hard to gain the position she has in the art world. She is convinced that there is only one way to have what she has fought so hard for…a loveless life. She is spirited and yet underneath very vulnerable. It is this vulnerability that Ms. Campbell brings out and allows to shine. Marina is a beautiful mix of all things woman.

Fergus Mackinnon has overseen his clan since he was nine years old and has a rather warped idea of women. He believes that women should be biddable and willing to take direction, HIS. His sisters and all the women of the clan have always shown deference to him and along comes Marina. She is NOT having it. The charming characteristic of Fergus is his desire to protect the women in his world. This leads to his world being tossed head over heels by Marina.

This is the first in a new series by Anna Campbell. We meet the other two Lairds in the prologue and I am anxious to meet them in more detail. Each of them told us their ideas of women when they were all young. I am excited to see how Ms. Campbell upends each of the other men and the strong women she brings to them. I also enjoyed that this was a full-length novel and not a novella. More chance to flesh out the characters and their journey. Well done!

A headstrong Laird used to be obeyed without hesitation, a feisty and independent woman who should have no place in his organized world.
But the more time Fergus spends with Marina, the more he becomes intrigued with this practical and talented woman who’s trying to stay afloat in a world ruled by men.
This is the first book of the Laird most likely series and like every one of Anna’s stories, it’s a journey through time and a rollercoaster of emotions.

Oh how I just love good banter in a story! The Laird's Willful Lass by Anna Campbell is book 1 in The Lairds Most Likely series. I am truly in awe in Anna’s writing and her stories. Her characters come alive, her descriptions so vivid that you can picture it all in your mind and this story is very original plus it is just a joy to read. I can’t say enough about this historical highland book. This story has a carriage accident, injury, kindness, artistic talent, beautiful landscapes, perseverance, attraction, banter, willfulness but does it find love. Travel back in time to Scotland and find out in this wonderful and delightful story! I highly recommend that you do!!

Oh I've loved this so much!!
I wish I hadn't read it to read it and to be amazed again (which I'm going to do anyway), or that it would have lasted longer. I'm struggling to find HRs that give me these feelings these days.

Anna Campbell is one of my favourite, and Tempt the Devil is no doubt one of the best romances I've ever read, but also when I'm not that into one of her novels there is no doubt that her writing is wonderful.
I will tell you that I liked this even more because, being Italian, when I read that one of the protagonists is a fellow country-person I am always hesitant. Generally in fact, Italian traditions, food, vocabulary taken into such contexts are often wrongly presented or misspelled, which just changes my disposition towards the whole story (just cos I don't like these types of imperfections, which are easily avoidable; definitely not because of a strong patriotism). And here there are none (there is one actually but not a big deal), on top of a prisable pick of italian terms and expressions.
And then the hero is a Scotsman, which is another favourite of mine.

Moreover, crucial is that everything is made unforgettable by a great characterisation of the protagonists, their love story and the setting. There is so much realism and passion here.

I'm aware this is a weird review but I can assure you that The Laird's Willfull Lass is just perfect.

The Laird's Willful Lass is the first book in a new series, The Likely Lairds by Anna Campbell. It was fantastic and I honestly couldn’t put it down!

Marina Lucchetti is a successful artist from Florence, Italy who has been commissioned to paint the Highlands. While traveling with her father they have a carriage accident and that’s when they meet up with our hero, Fergus Mackinnon who is Laird of Achnasheen. Marina’s father’s injury from the carriage accident has them stranded at the castle for several weeks....

I absolutely love Marina. She’s a strong, independent and successful woman for the time. Fergus who has been Laird of his clan since he was 9 is use to always having everyone follow his orders without question. Who doesn’t love a handsome arrogant Highlander? ;-) These two together were perfect and the banter between them was entertaining and humorous. There’s an immediate attraction between them from the moment they meet and Anna did a fantastic job of giving us a story to remember! Such a fabulous read from beginning to end! I highly recommend this book and can’t wait for the next book in this series!

My oh my. Where do I begin. The Laird's Willful Lass is a great beginning to a new series by Anna Campbell and we get to meet the other two lairds in the prologue. Based upon my great satisfaction with this read, I am really looking forward to the next two reads. God bless Scotland and their lairds!

Anna has done a wonderful job developing the two main characters, Marina and Fergus, who are the two most likely or unlikely protagonists you'll ever meet. Strong-willed. Dictatorial. Unwilling to compromise. Fiercely independent. Once I got into reading their story, their romance, it became apparent they were each other's Yin and yang. And how sweet it was. And sexy. And surprise...I didn't have to worry about any subplots: a mystery to solve, secrets withheld, villains run amok. Just a lovely, highland romance.

There’s something wonderful about settling down with a good Scottish Highlands romance, and this one hits the mark! From the beginning the sparks fly between Mackinnon and Marina. The banter between this overbearing, over protective laird and independent and self-made woman was captivating as the attraction grew and became so much more than either expected. Another great read from Anna Campbell. Looking forward to the next in her new series.

As reviewed at Roses Are Blue: https://wp.me/p3QRh4-Nc

Marina Lucchetti is a talented Italian artist who is touring Scotland, intending to paint some of the beautiful landscapes to fulfill a commission. The coach she and her father are traveling in suffers a devastating accident due to their reckless driver. Fergus Mackinnon, who witnessed the incident, manages to pull Marina and her father from the coach before it plunges into the water. Marina's father suffers a badly broken leg, which leaves him unable to travel for awhile. Fergus offers them the hospitality of his home for as long as they would like. He's actually glad for the company, as visitors are scarce.

Fergus is Laird of Achnasheen, and chief of his clan. He came into that responsibility at the tender age of nine, so he's used to responsibility and taking charge. The females he knows bow to his will and judgment, so Marina is a bit of an eye opener for him. Marina had to battle her way to be accepted as a female artist in a male dominated world. She's lived a circumspect life, travels with her father, and has an unblemished reputation. She concludes that there will never be a place for romance in her life as long as she's dedicated to pursuing her art.

As Fergus acts as Marina’s guide while her father recovers, he becomes more attracted to the opinionated and modern lady. He erroneously assumes that her self assurance and independence also indicates sexual experience, so he blatantly requests to become her lover. Though Marina is tempted, she won’t take any chances on damaging her reputation as a serious artist. Everyday they are alone with each other in the beautiful Scottish countryside, and Marina decides to finally give in, and they begin a passionate and affectionate affair. When the time draws closer for Marina to return to Italy, Fergus realizes he’s in love and doesn’t want their relationship to end.

My favorite aspect of THE LAIRD’S WILLFUL LASS is that the whole story is basically Marina and Fergus spending time with each other and falling in love. There is no outside interference, just two strong willed people who will have to make compromises if they are to have a future. I also really appreciate that neither of them was too stubborn to listen to the other’s opinion, or to reevaluate their own thoughts on the way they feel things should be. I love the sacrifice Fergus was willing to make, and I love Marina’s response even more. THE LAIRD’S WILLFUL LASS is a romantic and satisfying read with plenty of steam and heart.

Anna Campbell brings her amazing talents from the London ton to the Scottish Highlands. The chemistry between Fergus McKinnon, the Laird of Achnasheen and Marina Luchetti an artist from Florence is amazing. From their first meeting these two mixed like oil and water and yet, they are attracted to each other like iron to a magnet.
The two are strong, stubborn and have fixed opinions about how their lives would progress. Fergus thought he wanted to marry an sweet, compliant woman and Marina didn't want any man to get in the way of her painting.
Anna Campbell brings out the best in both characters and you can't help but cheer when their Happily Ever After finally comes.

This book is amazing. I really loved it. Anna made Scotland so approachable and she did it justice. I visited it last year. I've seen the Eilean Donan castle and it is marvelous. I've also been to Skye and it is just wow!
Back to the book. Marina is the most amazing girl. I love her stubborness and not being afraid to speak her mind. That was admirable in that time.
Laird is very powerfull and also stubborn. He is the man of his house and his land. But when it comes to it he isn't afraid to show a lassie his soft side and his true feelings.
Truly an amazing book!

Wilful indeed

The first meeting between Marina and Fergus happens in perilous circumstances and the mad ride between them doesn't end there! Anna Campbell starts off big and just gets bigger.
