Left at the Altar #3

Husband Material

Rate this book
She left me the week before our wedding.

Said I wasn't "husband material."

Actually, I'd have to agree with my ex on that matter...because I'm just better off alone. But everything changed for me the day I met a mysterious beauty sketching on the beach.

Giselle...

We had one magical night together...and then she was gone--a French beach fairy who danced away with the dawn.

I searched until I found her again.

And now I can't let her go...because maybe I am husband material after all.

Raine Miller has been reading romance novels since she picked up that first Barbara Cartland book at the tender age of thirteen. And it's a safe bet she'll never stop, because now she writes them too! Granted Raine's stories are edgy enough to turn Ms. Cartland in her grave, but to her way of thinking, a hot, sexy hero never goes out of fashion. A former teacher, she's now writing sexy romance stories full time. She has a handsome prince of a husband, two brilliant sons, and two bouncy Italian Greyhounds to pull her back into the real world if the writing takes her too far away. Her sons know she likes to write stories, but gratefully have never asked to read any, thank God! Raine loves to hear from readers and to chat about the characters in her books. Gage Danielson is a wealthy architect who grew up in Charleston, South Carolina. He spends his days working & surfing, and lives in a beach house on Folly Beach. After two years living together his fiancé leaves him with nothing but a note a week before the wedding saying he isn’t husband material. Maybe marriage wasn’t in the cards for him.

Then he meets a gorgeous, mysterious woman named Giselle sketching on the beach. She’s free spirited and like a breath of fresh air. She’s unexpected and exciting. They spend one passionate unforgettable night together and then she’s gone. He knows nothing about her including how to find her. They shared an intense physical connection, and had a wonderful time together. She brought a light into his life, and he wanted to see her again. He never expected to find someone like her. Soon they are addicted to one another and falling hard. Will he realize how much she means to him before it’s too late? Maybe he just might be husband material after all.

-Our first kiss changed something inside me. I couldn’t explain it, but I certainly felt whatever it was, wrapping around me, growing and building as our lips moved together.

-I wouldn’t ever forget this moment with her.

-I didn't believe love was even possible for someone like me. And then I met a girl on the beach who changed my mind.

This was a wonderful, sexy beach romance about finding the one your meant to be with. When you find your person everything just clicks and falls into place. It’s about taking a chance on love, and following your heart. Husband Material is the 3rd book in the Left At The Alter series, a collaboration of six New York Times Bestselling Authors. It’s a fun, fabulous, steamy novella I really enjoyed!

Gage's fiance called off the wedding by way of a hate-filled letter describing all of his faults. She accuses him of not being husband material and will be alone for the rest of his life. Gage thinks she might be right.

Out of all the women Gage has dated, he's not once felt a special spark for anyone. He resigned himself into thinking marriage is just about finding someone compatible. Only Gage and Cassidy were not so compatible. He actually feels relief when she calls the wedding off despite how badly she did it.

The last thing Gage expected was to meet a mysterious French woman on the beach who will turn his world upside down. When Giselle disappears after their one night together, Gage goes on a frantic search for her.

Gage and Giselle's story was a refreshingly fun summer read with hints of a whimsical and romantic love. For a short novella, this felt like a full length novel.

Their affair may have started out fast but the author wrote this in a way that let you get to know both characters. The pacing was perfect. I hope to find out if the rest of the Left at the Alter series is similar.

Sweet, light, and fun! If you’re in the mood for a quick and light-hearted read, this is a great choice!

The book opens with a brutal, but entertaining “Dear John” or “Dear Gage” letter in this case. Our hero, Gage has been dumped in dramatic fashion by his former fiancé, Cassidy. We learn quite a bit about his personality and thoughts on relationships through this letter. But a chance meeting with a beautiful stranger changes not only our perception, but Gage as well.

Here’s what I loved:
The writing. This author’s exquisite writing has been a favorite of mine for years. Her prose is pretty and expressive. She has a knack for pulling the audience in with her descriptions and that fact that the reader gets a bit of the inner struggles of each character.
The main characters, Gage and Giselle are fun. They’re flirty and just plain old fun together. He’s able to open up in a way he he’s never been able to do with her. Things happens quickly, but you get a true sense of his character development over the course of the novel.
The setting, plot, and pace are all appropriately executed. I didn’t have any major issues with either. My only slight hangup was Giselle’s backstory. I have lingering questions about her. Other than that, I really enjoyed this one.

All in all, it’s a great light read. Recommended.

Wow, the hero was such a man! You know how I know this? Because the author mentioned how much casual sex hes had over the years and how much he loves women and how they love him. Im soooo glad I know all of this useless information so I know how much a real MAN the hero is!

Said no one ever.

Also, the guy on the cover of this book has an extremely punchable face.

4.5 ‘French Beach Fairy’ Stars

Oh là là!!! What a perfect little summer read! Sweet, super sexy, fun but a whole lot of emotion, Husband Material packs quite a punch for a novella and holds a grip on us from start to finish.

Gage has just been left on the altar with a very ‘explicit’ letter by his ex bride, that has he completely losing hope of ever finding someone to share his future with…

“She’s definitely right about one thing,” I said suddenly. “I’m not husband material, and I think I’m meant to be single. For good.”

And like the best things in life, a beautiful French girl, Giselle pops up in his beach and in his life, unexpectedly and makes him, after the initial shock at each others chemistry, change his mind little by little.

She’d given me so many. Smiles. In a short time, I’d become rather addicted to Giselle’s smiles.

Her palms pressed along the contours of my chest as if she were a sculptor hand-fashioning her creation—molding the clay to her will—and I was her clay. Willingly.

There were so incredible and amazing things that made me fall in love with Gage and Giselle, first of all how could is see someone who is your namesake – very rare for this girl and always gets me giddy when I do – and that you share so many both similarities and dreams. I adored this woman, she was so very sweet and passionate, but also so mature, strong and in touch with her feelings, she was the perfect female character!

There was something about Giselle that was so diverse and so physical. Like a wild creature in its natural habitat. Except her natural habitat was everywhere. She knew where she wanted to be and she just…went there.

And Gage, oh my… He was such a deliciously sexy, tough guy, but with such a secret tender heart that simultaneously craved and feared to find his soulmate, and his own HEA.

Uneasiness that I was heading into some dangerous uncharted territory…for my heart.

Giselle was the one who’d given me far more than I could ever give to her.

Giselle was all about expression…in everything she did in her life.

How could I not fall for him when he was so completely and utterly smitten by his ‘French Beach Fairy?! From that very first look we could see and feel his enchantment. And how he did everything in his power to find her, more than once, yep, totally swoon worthiness right there. That, the love and care, the steaming HOT- or should I say scorching – sexy times and that last EPIC love gesture made him go straight to my best book boyfriend list!

Giselle was one lucky, but just as wonderful, woman, and just as deeply in love and devoted to him as he was to her.

My beautiful surfing man just does not yet know the depths of what he could give if only he would allow the love to break through the hurt that lived in his heart.

Raine Miller surprised me with Husband Material, considering I never expected that she could still pack all the emotional depth and range that she got us used to in her brilliant storytelling talent, but boy was I wrong! It was everything I was hoping for and more, and one of the best novellas I have ever read! And those little Easter eggs were awesome! A bit more of epilogue – we all know how much of an epilogue wh@re I am, lol – and it would have been the full five stars. I need even more Gage and Giselle, and their future HEA, which I’m hoping we’ll get considering the author’s note that Gage’s friends are getting their own books. Let the stalking begin! <3 <3 <3 <3 <3

Giselle was it for me. My girl.

The point is, my gorgeous Gi, you are my home. Wherever you want to be is where I will live.”

That’s what I believed, so it became my truth. She had been sent from heaven or somewhere to find me…and save me. To be mine. Forever.

I can only imagine how hard it is to write a short story and to give everything to a reader.

Raine has written a fantastic sexy book. I really enjoyed reading this amazing fast-paced story with gorgeous main characters - I just loved the amazing chemistry - and unexpected surprises.

5.0 Star Review Husband Material (Left At The Altar 3#)
Raine Miller’s writing style is effortless and she had me riveted to this book from start to finish. Although a novella Ms. Miller still manages to give us a complete story with depth and characters that you can relate to. Husband Material was well written and flowed well.
This was a fun, quick read. Neither Gage or GIselle are looking for love and yet through fate they meet and connect on many levels.
I really liked Gage and Giselle and would love more of them. Their chemistry sizzled and the banter between then them was humorous. This book made me smile throughout my read and if you are looking for a good romance, then one click now.

Husband Material was just the perfect summer read novella which includes the settings and characteristics I love in my romance novels. Add to that the Easter eggs found here that Raine Miller loves to add to her books and I was in reading bliss with a new book by my favorite author. Gage and Giselle were the perfect hero and heroine and I just really want more and more of them. Love their chemistry, the bohemian in Giselle, and the romance that makes my heart happy. Oh oui!

4.5 Stars!

I've seen several people say that this is the perfect summer read, and I agree with them 100%. Raine brings us the engaging, sexy story of Gage Danielson, whose fiancé dumps him via a not so nice letter she leaves behind for him. Is he upset about it? Yeah... Is he devastated over it? Nah... Truth be told, it sounds to me like he dodged a HUGE bullet when she runs off with one of his supposed friends.

When Gage sees Giselle sitting on the beach one day, drawing, he feels a strong connection with her. She's beautiful, and French, and she's looking at him so intensely...he doesn't really know what to do with himself.

Raine does a masterful job of fitting a lot of content into this novella. I loved seeing Gage and Giselle together, the way he was so gullible and fell for all of her teasing. The comfortable feeling they had with each other even though they really knew nothing about the other. And especially the change that Gage went through from thinking he wasn't husband material at all, to desperately wanting to spend his life with Giselle. The sexy times were oh so sexy! Mama Raine knows how to write a sex scene!

As a die hard fan of her books, I absolutely loved finding all of the Easter Eggs she hid throughout this story. Now I am anxious to see what becomes of those little tidbits! More books!!

Fans of Raine are going to love this novella, and if you haven't read her yet, this is a perfect story to get you started. I'm off to explore the other stories in the Left at the Altar series!

Husband Material is a standalone novella by Raine Miller and part of a series of books called Left at the Altar. Other participating authors are J. S. Scott, Ruth Cardello, Sawyer Bennett, Minx Malone and Melody Anne. I love the concept of such collaborations with one main theme which is executed by every author in their own way.

Since I'm a huge fan of Raine's work and consider her one of the most talented authors I ever came across I couldn't wait to get my hands on this novella. It's a sweet, sexy and low angst beach read. If you're a fan of insta love stories with a HEA than this book is right up your alley! Grab this story and find out what happens when Gage, a handsome and successful architect who was recently ditched by his awful fiancee, meets Giselle, a beautiful and free-spirited French artist who unexpectedly turns out to be the woman of his dreams. Both of them have been burned by others and must now learn to trust their hearts.

I've enjoyed Husband Material and give it 4 stars!

When your ex fiancé sends a “dear john” letter and tells you that you are not the marrying kind and your destiny is forever loneliness what do you do?

Gage is the laid back successful surfer whose heart has been trampled. He turns to some self reflection and realizes that love is not for him. However, chance meeting with beautiful French artist Giselle on the beach turns his world upside down. Is it possible for the broody man-boy to really find happiness? Can Giselle’s free spiritedness unlatch the key to his heart?

Raine Miller knowns romance like no other and this swoon worthy, sexy story is just the perfect summer treat. Her knack for placing characters so they realize their best selves is what I love most about her writing.

A perfect one sitting read!

This is, surprisingly, my first title by Raine Miller, and I enjoyed it. It's a shorter story, so it is instalove, which works when it is shorter as there just isn't the time to fully develop the backstory and the events leading up to the relationship.

Gage was jilted...recently and seemingly over his socks never ending up in the hamper. However, the reader and Gage himself understand this was merely the final straw, the last thing his ex mentioned before being completely done with him. So, he decides he is not one for relationships and romance is off the table.

Until he sees Giselle, his French beach fairy and realizes that maybe it was only partly his fault that his ex left him, and that sometimes, it is all about the person you are with making you willing to do more, to hunt them down, to see if you can find them again when what you had was supposed to be one night, and maybe to even be willing to chase them around the world, if it comes to that, because what you have is worth fighting for.

I enjoyed this title, and I believed the characters. I wanted more of them, which happens a lot in a shorter story. But at the same time, I thought the parts we were part of, and the parts the author skipped over for space, worked well and allowed the story to flow.

As I mentioned, this is my first title by this author, but it won't be my last. I recommend this book.

Gage is still reeling after breaking off with his fiancée just before the wedding. It was not surprising, since they were not getting along for a long time. What was really irritating was the hate letter she left him telling she had been sleeping with one of his best friends and telling him some horrible things about how cold and unfeeling he was. Let's face it. He was never head over heels in love with her. He was marrying her because he did not want to be alone. It was just the next step that was expected. Now he is really wondering if he is really husband material.

Meeting Giselle by shee accident at the beach changed his perspective immediately. She was a breath of fresh air he did not realize he needed. What started as a one night stand changes everything and he cannot let her go. But she lives in France and he lives in Charleston. Is it possible to have a relationship? Is he suited for any kind of relationship? Can he survive letting her go?

This steamy romance between two opposites will leave you believing love does conquer all.

I am voluntarily reviewing this book. Thanks to the author for sharing a copy with me.

It is with a warm heart that I read every word in this pretty, pretty romance.

Gage is a jaded man, unfit for love until he serendipitously meets a French fairy of a girl at the beach.

Their connection is full of sweet awe, banter and sensuality that catch them unaware. Despite the odds, they fall under the spell and it is so beautiful.

Never have I read a better picnic scene. The strawberries! Every intimate scene is laced with delicious detail. It is a little jewel of poetic feelings. Can two people who randomly cross their very different paths really succeed and not break apart? This story is a testament to that wishful fantasy we all want to believe in. That no matter the odds, love knows best.

An affair by the beach, a fated goodbye, and a life-altering decision. I loved that fateful moment and how Gage reacted. He showed sadness but also courage to fight for what was true. All the secrets spilled out and it was bittersweet to read. Though that part concerning Giselle’s past echoed a bit twisted and uneven, I loved how it didn’t change their feelings and those led to a beautiful future together. So lovely! I’d always recommend this author’s romances.

It's not a secret that Raine's Miller books always will be my top priority in the long list of want to read.
Husband Material is perfect short summer story. It's a story about a hot architect and surfer Gage who gets ditched by his fiancé because he is in her eyes, no husband material. She dithched him by cruel letter, and ran off with a man who until that moment was considered his friend.
Even though she had abandoned him just before the wedding ceremony, he had discovered that, among all his deceptions in life, it might have been his biggest mistake to marry her. Then, unexpectedly, he discovered Giselle, a French tourist who had a bohemian free spirit. She drew his attention and then he discovered that when the woman is fit for his soul, he does have the husband material.
I especially like stories that the heroes of the book are from different countries in the world, it adds great pepper to the plot.
The sex scenes are amazing and it is impossible not to fall in love with their wonderful chemistry .
Highly recommended

Husband Material is book 3 in the Left at the Altar Series but it certainly can be read as a stand-alone I know this because as of now I haven’t read the previous 2 books but that’s about to change because I love the concept of this story. This is a beautifully written love story about two people not looking or wanting to find love it’s full of passion and it’s so positive no angst in this short adorable read.
Gage is spending some time at the beach surfing he needs to get his head together after being cheated on and then dumped by his fiancé a couple of weeks before the wedding and it’s only when he gets this time alone does he realise this is all for the best but a chance meeting on the beach with a beautiful artist makes him wonder maybe it isn’t him maybe he was just with the wrong girl.
This story isn’t about searching for love it’s about love finding you and sometimes that happens when we least expect it. Raine Miller has once again shown us why she is the queen of romance with this short summer or winter (depending on what part of the world you are in) read.

L'amour a lu d'abord. The lovely Raine Miller has done it again; it really was love at first read. I recieved an ARC of Husband Material and devoured the entire book in one sitting. Husband Material is the 3rd novella in the left at the altar series. Raine's wonderful story telling brought Gage's and Giselle's story to life. Gage has been jilted by Cordelia, a week before his wedding, with an angry Dear John letter detailing all his faults and letting him know she has left him for his friend. Weeks later, feeling angry, insecure, and unsure of himself, and his future, Gage finds the lovely Giselle, a French artist, on the beach. A month long romance ensues before Giselle has to return to Paris, and Gage's fear of letting people in seems to be holding them apart. This story does have a beautiful HEA, and I was so sad for it to end. All the Easter eggs in the story were fabulous and I cant wait to read what Raine has in store for us next.

Husband Material is a sweet, short summer read from Raine Miller that she wrote for the LEFT AT THE ALTAR series, which is a collaboration of six New York Times Bestselling Authors. It's a story about a hot architect and surfer Gage who gets ditched by his fiancé because he is apparently no husband material. Relieved to be alone again, he will soon discover, that being ditched by her was the best thing that could have ever happend to him. Everything changes from the moment he meets Giselle, a stunning French artist who evokes unexpected feelings inside him. The more time they spend together, the deeper his feelings go. Will Gage discover that he might be husband material after all?

Being a huge Raine Miller fan I really enjoyed reading this story. It's a fun, angst-free summer read that will put a huge smile on your face. 4 stars!

Let me first say how much I love this author and anything she pens. Her words have melodic flow and she always sets off the music with her prose.

Two strangers, once chance meeting and a lifetime of happiness. Who better to tell me this story the incomparable, Raine Miller?

Love encompasses so much more than just words. It is a feeling, an action and having the right person that can bring the best out in you. You oft times find it when you are not looking. That was a lesson Gage had not learned, until he met Gisselle. Gage was reeling from a shock of pain, and Gisselle was running from a life of pain.

Two strangers, once chance meeting and a lifetime of happiness always totals 5 stars, but then Raine always deserves 5 stars.

A summer fling

Husband Material is a funny, sexy little read. Gage Donaldson finds himself single a week before his wedding. Cassidy didn't even have the decency to break up with him in person, she left a hate letter! The two year relationship was mainly a convenience a way of not being alone, at least it was to Gage.
Gisele was born and raised in France, visiting Charleston trying to escape a troubled past. She is an artist and wanted to be by the ocean.
Gage and Gisele meet at the beach, Gage was surfing and Gisele started drawing him. He thought she was easily the most beautiful woman he had ever seen.

Gage was left a week before a wedding in front of 400 people, yep he was the one who had to cancel everything and lose all the deposit money. It's ok, as his ex said he is not husband material and she was right. Out surfing he meets Giselle his little French beach fairy. Giselle makes Gage feel alive and wanting to keep her around him 24/7. Gage quickly becomes husband material.
Cute fast read that has set the world for many books to come.

I’m in love with these two!
More to review later;)

So later, a week later is now:

Figuring out he is not husband material by is traitor fiancée, is not the best way to settle and to give up on love.

No rush is needed but he meets the girl and everything sparkles between them.

Both have baggage and not willing to tell it right away but they seem so right, easy relationship from the start, not what they were really prepared for.

Not searching for love, but love found them.

I particularly play this part and I’ve convinced myself I’m not searching but if I’m not out no one will find me so it’s a good advice Raine ;)

For love we can bring the best out of each other if we are in the same page and open minded.

Husband Material is a fun, sexy, quickie read :)

English:
One of the most beautiful Raine Miller’s stories, kinda different form her other books but with all those elements that make her create incredible stories. A male alpha (a good one) a sweet girl (but strong and determined) and this time wrapped in an incredibly sweet situation, full of unexpected twists and obstacles to overcome.
Husband Material gets the ovations of the best summer book I read this 2018.
I will be honest and say that I have not read the previous books in the Left At The Altar Series but now, after read about Gage, I definitely will.
With this book Raine Miller amazes me again, reminding me why she is my favorite author, she is able to create a romantic, charming, sexy, filthy and complicated but credible story, that makes you don't want to stop reading until finished the book (and even after finishing it you won’t be able to stop thinking about Gage and Giselle)
I'm so excited about this book and it has put Giselle into my top 5 of favorite heroines, showing that a girl can be sweet and cute but also strong and determined. I loved this character so much!!

This was a fun quick read. It was fast paced, sexy, with lots of fun banter between Gage and Giselle. Which gave it a light feel. Even though there were some heavy moments. Who says you can't fall in love at first site.

This was a great summer beach read!!

Who knew a broken engagement and a subsequent break-up would come down to dirty socks?!?!

But, of course, it’s not just the inability of Gage Danielson to put his dirty clothes in the hamper…it’s more of not being with the right person…not finding that one person who would love him regardless of his habits or miscommunication and that he could love back in the way that matters most.

The way that Gage’s ex dumps him is representative of the selfish woman she appears to be, and even though her final remarks leave Gage questioning who he is and what he wants, her comments say more about who she is and what she needs to do in order to justify her actions.

Fate may be fickle but it seems to lead Gage to the woman who is meant to be his, and even though he doesn’t know a lot about his ‘French beach fairy’ - a woman who seems to understand and see him in ways that no one else ever has - the fact that he can’t stop thinking about her and shares a connection worth pursuing is all the incentive he needs to find the woman who could make him ‘husband material.’

A chance meeting leads Gage on journey of self-discovery and love and despite the obstacles that exist, as long as there’s a chance that there’s a future with his mysterious French beauty, he’ll do whatever it takes and go wherever is necessary to find everything he never knew he wanted and perhaps even needed.

Even though Raine Miller’s Left At The Altar novella is a quick read, it is filled with emotion and heart, and it confirms that any man can be ‘husband material’ as long as he finds the woman who accepts him and all of his faults.

Gage and Giselle

This was beautifully fantastic! I completely fell in love with both Gage and Giselle. Gage is a strong American architect. He’s just been jilted mere hours before walking down the aisle. He knows the reason his Ex left our valid reasons. I think some people don’t open up and let someone fully in their hearts unless they are the one and Gage was no exception. He wasn’t against love and commitment. He just didn’t believe because he never felt anything close to that’s.

Until Giselle

Giselle was a beautiful French artistic wallflower. She’s seen and done too much in her young life. She truly wants to believe there is love and goodness waiting for her, but like Gage has never felt it. Gage surfs into her life and lights up her heart.

These two strangers spend one sexy amazing month together before it’s time for Giselle to return home. She’s completely in love with this beautiful man but is he ready to fall as hard as she has?

“Love
is not just a word with you
Love
is your sweet kiss at the small of my back
Love
is a new smile in your eyes on our third hour mark
Love
is our dirty socks entwined in the hamper
Love
is just you”
