I Didn’t Want It to End!

Listen! Emerson and Ro are everything! I so didn’t want this book to end. I understand the dynamic of growing up in church being a pastor’s daughter. So this story appealed to me in so many ways. I love how Ro and Emerson were what each other needed, even though they didn’t know it and weren’t looking for it. I need more of them Nicole! A follow up on them please or at least in book 2 of this series.

What a trip!

If Nicole Falls set out to write a story that was an intimate, cleansing journey for the characters and the reader.... Yup... She succeeded!

As per my norm, I did not read the blurb.... At all. So I had no idea where the story was going and quite honestly I wasn't even sure if it was going to be romance. It was soooooo much more. Emerson and Ro were #blacklove personified. I was a willing and silent passenger throughout their 'Road to Love.' Everything about their trip was worth it. This is my favorite read of 2018 thus far.

Great Read!

What a cute love story of two strangers traveling back to their hometowns to find clarity and closure to ongoing family drama. While getting acquainted with one another Roosevelt and Emerson are learning that they're going through similar situations, that leads them to learn how to console and support each other. On this journey love creeps into the picture through the calm and peace they both bring to one another. They both found refuge in one another by traveling to each other's hometown to keep that bond that they formed together. Roosevelt sacrifice himself by getting on the boat for her class reunion, while disregarding his motion sickness. Emerson finds out he can sing and supports him by going and encouraging him to continue on that path. My lesson from this story reminded me of a song that I vaguely remember. I know only the first part of the hook right now, but I know it's going to come when I'm finished my review. Its very simple, you have to live and learn. Learn how to forgive, learn how to forget and learn how to have patience. I think even though one side has been hurt and still hurting, the ones that are doing the hurt is also hurting but just doesnt realise it. Their parents were hurting too. It's just they had to learn how to except change and to remember things never stays the same. A lot of us get complacent and comfortable in the routine that we don't consider feelings, change and growth that some of us do. We just expect that things should be done this way or that way not even considering what is wanted. This story was great. I loved the adventure and lessons. Great 👍Read!

Found love on a lonely highway

This story is the perfect analogy for the blues song, "I found love on a lonely highway!" Her impulsive decision to drive home causes Emerson and Roosevelt's paths to collide. Her decision to stop and help a stranger leads to them getting to know each other better. Despite the long journey ahead, a second chance unexpected meeting allows Em and Ro to take their own off course venture, creating more quality time bonding. They were open and completely free with each other, saying and doing things that came to mind. Both have some internal and external healing to do, causing to be each other's sounding board. I would love to see more from this couple in the future.

This is a dual first-person POV road-trip + return-to-hometown romance with a strong voice, caring protagonists, and good humor.

I really liked how Falls balanced the development of the romance and the character development. I love finding "similar protagonist" romances (as "opposites attract" often dominate), and Emerson and Ro have a lot in common, from their backgrounds--they both grew up in Jehovah's Witnesses families, and religion is the cause of estrangement between themselves and their parents--to their current situations, traveling cross-country from L.A. to the midwest, hoping they're now strong enough to weather the onslaught of the past and their tricky family situations.

One difference is that Ro has been in therapy (another thing I love in romances; protagonists who've been in therapy make me more confident that the overall HEA narrative won't be "and this relationship will fix all your problems~~"), and that shows up in his attitudes and actions. That doesn't mean he doesn't make mistakes, but his character development isn't as steep as Emerson's, and his perspective helps the both of them a lot.

And Emerson! Overwhelmed, searching, buoyant, stubborn, hilarious Emerson. I loved the way she balanced who she was now with who she had been (and what other people thought she was), and she remained true to that, even when she was anxious while dealing with her father.

So Much!!

Man! There was so much to this book, so many heavy yet thoughtful themes that tugged at the heart has lingered in the mind. I never knew a lot about the JH religion but have had friends and associates that were ex-communicated for some reason or another—this book explored that tremendous damage that is a result of following man’s standard instead of God’s standard of love.

The love story that ensued was so rich. Even when Emerson was on my last nerve and I felt that Roosevelt should have been calling her brat instead of Nat, I still found their journey to love all encompassing and captivating. And for the record, Ro is most definitely that $&))-

Finally, I wish that Emerson wasn’t as bratty and immature. I get her being hurt/wounded but she was a lot! She just barely had enough redeeming qualities for me to accept her bagging Ro, IJS. I also wish that her depression/anxiety/mental health issues would have been flushed out more and that there was some more in-depth info on how she fell out of communication with her besties.

Overall, this book was was superb!

Emerson and Roosevelt unpacking mutual dysfunction families

Forgiveness is not for the other person, it's to release you from the stronghold in which that unforgiveness has on you.

Reading Emerson and Roosevelt's story the connectivity of family trauma and religious upbringing was woven into the fabric of the story that you couldn't help but feel the weight it had on each of them. What you come to see is everyone needs an outlet and an unbiased view to show them how to move forward.

Reading this book release for me the process of having to forgive my own father. The impact of loss and upbringing is key to how we navigate through life.

You'll appreciate Emerson and her quirky ways. You'll respect Roosevelt and how he's in touch with his feelings but also a strong alpha male.

Read it slow so you can catch all the nuggets.

First I thought this was a Christian romance with all the church and Jehovah's witness chatter. But soon learned that religion was the cause of Emerson's issues with her parents. Anyway it could be because I'm a lapsed Southern Baptist 🤣 but religion interwoven into the plot annoyed me. I don't like the church all up in my romance especially if the characters are doing the nasty. I prefer the characters to be heathens like me. LMAO!!!

I liked Emerson ok. She annoyed me at times especially when she refused to call Roosevelt by his nickname. Who is she to decide?

Looking forward to next book

Emmie and Ro...love their journey and discovery

Road to Love is an amazing story of growth, forgiveness and redemption. Emmie and Ro are dealing with past hurts. Wounds that were caused during the heat of anger. Emmie had unsettled issues with family members and so did Ro. This is part of why they clicked. Ro and Emmie bonded during a road trip...which I adore! This book is full amazing characters...friends and family of Ro and Emmie. They all contributed to making this book totally awesome! Nicole Falls gets it right again.. Check it out💗

Nicole Falls does it again!

This was a story of 2 people who weren't looking for love and met in THE most random, could-have-been-the-beginning-of-an-ID Discovery-episode way!😜😂 Ms. Falls explored some real life issues and complicated family dynamics with honesty and humor. Ms. Falls is the best at weaving old school and on trend phrases and culture to give us an amazing story! The best thing is, this is just Book 1. Can't wait to see what the other REC Shop Divas stories!

Road to ❤️

She did it again! Nicole Falls is a masterful wordsmith that draws you into these characters’ lives and makes you feel all of the emotions from belly busting laughter to soul shaking sobs.
Emerson and Ro are two complicated individuals with similar emotional baggage. They help each other navigate reconciliation with their loved ones and discover each other at the same time.
Go head and cop this one...it’s worth it!

Great!

I’ve read a few of Nicole Falls’ books so I trust her to not need to read the blurb before diving into a story. I was not let down. I enjoyed every everything about this book: the secondary characters, the scenes, the relationships, and the struggles.
I live 2 miles from a Freddy’s Frozen Custard place, but I’ve never gone. This book made me want to go over there for a burger and concrete.

It was good

I've come to expect a good story with some hilarious moments in a Nicole Falls book, and this one didn't disappoint. Emerson has internal battles that affects her life immensely. Her family issues have to be dealt with, whether she wants to do so or not. Ax murderer (Grace is crazy lol) aka Ro has family issues as well that he has to face. These two had so much in common, it's no wonder they were drawn to each other.

Road to Love is also an accurate description!

Although the story spanned over a short period of time, It felt like a long road to Emerson and Roosevelt finally becoming a couple. Emerson got on my nerves; she was a bit of a brat. Roosevelt was a dream - calm, cool, yet n touch with his feelings. I loved the way the author weaved in deep-layered family issues and how the characters worked to resolve them.

Emerson needed a getaway from all the built up tension & stress in her life. She decided on going home for a short while but her flight was canceled. Ending up driving the long distance, by chance she meets a stranger on the road. Her & Roosevelt hit it off easily & decide they like & want to see more of each other. They trade info & keep in contact. But it turns into more than just phone calls & text messages

Great story

Loved how it started and how I perceive it to end for me. Their story was alike in so many ways besides his dumb daddy. The religion thing on both ends is what brought them mostly together with their family problems. Loved this book and the time frame for it was great also!

Oh yeah!

Wow! This was a great read. Why? 1. The plot was very different, unique. 2. Nothing was completely typical and I couldn't confidently predict what would happen next. 3. Main characters had parallel family background stories but it didn't seem redundant. I was disappointed when the story ended. I wanted more! Sequel please!

Great Read

Love's highway can have potholes filled with ex's and new baby momma Misses,, add dysfunctional family drama, long distance drive to your hometown, and a meltdown, and a handsome stranded stranger and you've got "A Road to Love". A romantic "take me away" read you don't want to put down till the end.

Cute Story

I enjoyed reading Emerson and Roosevelt's story. Neither one of them were looking for love on their journeys home, but they found each other. They were so cute together. I'm glad both Emerson and Roosevelt were able to solve some of their issues with their parents. I'm also glad they were able to figure out how they would make their relationship work.

It seemed like it was a long road.

How is it that two people who lives practically mirror the other meet out of the blue? I mean even down to having issues with a parent. Felt the working through process dragged for the both of them. And then it ends like THAT? I will have to see if I get more of Emerson and Roosevelt.
