Create beautiful pots by hand—using the time-honored techniques of coil, pinch, slab and others—with easy-to-follow instructions for every procedure, and 168 step-by-step photos.
I am new to teaching clay classes and bought a bunch of used books seeking as many different descriptions of techniques as possible so I can have lots of ways to introduce concepts to all kinds of learners. This is one of the shorter books I purchased but probably the BEST in terms of visual aids, examples of finished projects, and written descriptions. It’s great. I especially love the photographs of the cross section of how to make a pinch pot. Going to be so helpful for my youngest students in elementary school.
Am I lucky to have incidentally stumbled upon this humble-looking and seemingly unknown book! This book teaches the basic methods of hand building. It does not teach you how to form, for that, you have to study anatomy, but the pinch pot method to make finger puppets and the fiber glass armatures were new to me. I'm glad I picked it up!
