I can't stand Wes Sullivan. There's only one problem: he's my new roommate.
Wes is a cocky military man. He might have left the Army, but the Army hasn't left him.
I hate everything about him. How he tries to control everything, including me. How his mood is always stormy and serious. And especially how good he looks in just a towel.
I can't stand the sight of Wes's gorgeous abs, because it makes me want him... ...and he's all wrong for me.
Okay, we have two problems.
Scratch that—three problems.
The third problem is that he knows my darkest secret now. He understands. And if he leaves now, I won't just lose his half of the rent. I'll lose my heart.
This book is part of the Amelia Wilde universe, and should be read after Before She Was Mine.

Loved the dynamics and relationship between Whitney and Wes. Wes is a soldier dealing with his own demons and Whitney is an aspiring actress who lives life to the fullest. Amelia does it again with another great love story that proves sometimes opposites really do attract. I really enjoyed this book.
Blurb: A wounded war hero struggling to survive meets his match in the one woman he never saw coming...
"...an insanely all consuming intensely passionate affair of the heart..." –Jackie, Amazon reviewer
Wes Sullivan is everything I loathe in a man. Too strong. Too controlling. Too serious. He left the Army, but that Army attitude won’t leave him.
And me? My spirit is so free that no man can contain me. Screw rules. Screw routines. Maintain that element of surprise.
My only job is to get him to the church on time for his sister's wedding. Kissing him isn’t part of the deal. Neither is falling for those lightning eyes, for that rock-hard body.
We’re both flirting with disaster But he’s one rule I have to break…
Whitney and Wes's story is a fun and upbeat love story about two totally opposite people finding each other. This book takes you through a lot of emotions but in a good way. I really enjoyed it, couldn't out it down, great book.
When Whitney meets her best friend's brother, it's under less than pleasant circumstances. She's determined to get his fine rear end to his sister's wedding and he's determined not to go. No, not because he doesn't approve of his sister marrying his best friend, or because Wes is a jerk, but because his military induced PTSD was triggered the night before during the bachelor party when their cab was in a car accident. So now he's out of sorts, his neck is hurting even more, and he doesn't think he can handle a loud wedding right now. But Whitney is absolutely determined and she eventually gets her way (by kissing him to shut him up) and drags him to the wedding.
Wes isn't exactly sure what to think of his sister's loud, annoying best friend aside from that he thinks she's hot. So when he becomes her roommie a few months later, sparks are bound to fly all over the place. After awhile the two give into their obvious attraction despite their completely opposite personalities and things are sorta OK. Except not really, because Wes still hasn't admitted there's anything wrong with him and Whitney's relentless poking at him to get beneath his outer layer of control is bound to make things end with a blowup. And when that blowup happened, I was really cringing because it wasn't pretty. I felt really badly for Wes mostly, because Whitney was such a whirlwind and OK, really annoying a lot of the time and really obnoxious when they blew up at each other. And above all, I felt for him because it was obvious his PTSD was making its entrance in a big way and Whitney couldn't seem to just leave it alone, leave him alone and let him be for a second, instead only thinking of her own desires as usual.
She's actually why the 4 instead of 5 stars. I wanted someone a bit more mature for Wes, someone a bit more understanding of where he was coming from, and Whitney was not any of those things. I do like that their opposites were exciting and sexy, but in the long run I'd fear for their relationship because she never seemed to develop an understanding of what a veteran suffering from PTSD would need in a permanent partner. Aside from her, though, I loved After I Was His. It flows really well, it's sexy and emotional and the characters are well-drawn and fully realized.
3.5 Stars After I Was His by Amelia Wilde is the story of Whitney and Wes . Wes is dealing with the pain emotionally that was left after him and his friends sufferer a tragic attack while in the military. So certain things set off his emotions and the night before his sister and best friends wedding he had an attack. Whitney is the maid of honor at her best friends wedding so she wants things to go perfectly. When the best-man/brother doesn't show up she goes looking for him. Whitney is tough with him and gets the job done by getting him to the wedding. When Wes needs a place to stay while starting a new job his sister sets him up with Whitney who needs a roommate. They still aren't hitting it off at first but they slowly start to become friends and then more. I read this in one sitting but I didn't feel the connection I so love to get when reading a book...but overall did enjoy their story.
Arc review for honest review. Wes is Whitney's best friends brother he came back with ptsd from the army. Whitney's a women of strong fortitude's and can't help wanting help with falling for him. What a awesome story of love.
Wes, Summer's brother from Before She Was Mine, carries a lot on his shoulders. He also expends a lot of energy appearing normal. He doesn't want to ask for help, he doesn't feel he should need it. Like a lot of guys I'm sure, Wes can't reconcile his feelings when he came home from Afghanistan with his body intact. Whitney, Summer's best friend and former roommate, projects a similar facade. She is an insurance agent to pay the bills but keeps trying to become a working actress. When these two collide at Summer's wedding, sparks flew and almost caused spontaneous combustion. Then fate steps in and suddenly these two opposites are in close proximity. Will this end in happily ever after or nothing but ashes?
I knew that Wes would be a challenge after meeting him in Before She Was Mine. But he didn't frustrate me as much as I thought he would. He is holding on so tight that you can't help but want to hug him. Whitney came across as almost flighty in Summer and Dayton's book but it becomes apparent very quickly that she is also holding on by a thread. Its just her acting ability disguises it better. Some authors tend to write the same characters over and over, changing the details but at heart they are the same. I have more than a few of them on my auto buy list. But Amelia Wilde has a beautiful gift for making different characters that SHOW us their personality, their flaws and weaknesses. You cannot help but fall in love with her characters. I was so sad to finish After I Was His, I didn't want it to be over yet! But oh my, this is a perfect example of sweet and sexy romance. Ms Wilde is a fantastic storyteller, I cannot wait for her next book!
After I Was His by Amelia Wilde is the story of Wes Sullivan (big brother of Summer in Before She was Mine) and Whitney (best friend of Summer). It all starts at when Whitney has to go hunt down Wes at Summer and Dayton wedding. And from there a relationship begins.
I haven't read Before She was Mine and I kind of feel like I am missing some of the story about Wes and Dayton's deployment and the cause of Wes' PTSD. It seems glossed over. I didn't feel the connection between Wes and Whitney. It seemed that all they were doing was complaining about each other. Wes was too rigid and set in his routine (to help with his PTSD) and Whitney was to carefree, flighty, and spontaneous. This book was just okay to me.
Rating: 3 out of 5

Wish I could give it 10 stars!! What an amazing book Amelia Wilde has gifted us with! Wes Sullivan has recently left the Army after suffering an IED attack in which his best friend was seriously wounded. Now he is faced with Whitney Coalport, his sister’s best friend, as she exerts her strong willed impulsive spirit to bully him into standing up at his best friend and sister’s wedding. That is just the beginning of the roller coaster ride which is this story. You will find yourself laughing, cheering and crying throughout their journey. Your heart will ache for Wes and the struggles he is going through. Your heart will break for both of them as they struggle to find their fit in each other’s life. But, oh what joy you will find in their story!
Amelia Wilde weaves an engaging tale from beginning to end. You should be prepared to settle in for the whole ride because once you start you will find it hard to put down. The storyline flows smoothly with interesting and solid characterizations. Ms. Wilde has a way of holding you in the grip of Wes and Whitney’s journey from which you will find it hard to let go! I highly recommend this very appealing read!!
I am voluntarily providing an honest, unbiased review of an ARC of this book.
Wes & Whitney have a great love affair. Amelia has a way of bringing military afterlife into the forefront of these books. Even when these men and woman get out of the life they still are in, and they have problems. Amelia writes these into her book and brings another person (Whitney) to bring love and laughter into their lives. Wes is dealing with PTSD and while doing that he and Whitney are opposites that just work. This is a very enjoyable story.
I am beyond thrilled to announce that After I Was His is officially LIVE and available on Amazon! This is an intense, heartwrenching, heartwarming military romance with an enemies-to-lovers twist. Readers of Before She Was Mine will absolutely LOVE catching up with beloved characters Summer and Dayton.

I just read an insanely all consuming intensely passionate affair of the heart between a bad to the bone, surly Vet whose Military days have left him in a constant turmoil state of mind. And a one women whirlwind, who fears the unknown, loves living fancy-free, but deep down enjoys what a structured life has to offer. When this unlikely pair come together, everyone else should step aside! Wes is the gasoline to Whitney's fire, and these two are helpless to put out the flames! Woo! Now that was some emotional mayhem! I loved Wes and Whitney; then I would dislike them, sometimes one more than the other. Oh. My. This all heart, no holds barred tale shows what happens when two people stop pretending and life gets messy-- I. Loved. Every. Maddening. Sweet. Heart Breaking. Moment. Of. It. I honestly couldn't get enough! Well written, laced with humor and hints of savagery. ( the pretzels pure savage) True to life characters and a storyline to match this book ticks off the things I look for in a romance novel and then some! Amelia Wilde rolled out the red carpet of feels for us when writing After I Was His! #OneClick Material Right Here!
I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader copy of this book. We pick up right where we left off, at Summer and Dayton’s wedding. Wes is nowhere to be found and Whitney is in search of him. These two have never met she’s only seen pictures and when these two meet its explosive and not in a good way. Wes is dealing with PTSD and is in denial which is making his life harder than it needs to be if he would only get the help he needs, because all it takes is one wrong sound and he’s put back in the war zone. These two are polar opposites, she’s outgoing, no plans, no predictability, but for Wes he needs order, control in his life and Whitney is messing everything up. He’s not the guy she usually falls for, it’s and opposites attract relationship, or is it? How will Summer react when she learns they are together? Can Wes get past all the quirks that Whitney has or will he come to the end of his rope with her spontaneity? No spoilers here, I want you to grab this book to find out what happens with Wes and Whitney. I loved this book, it was sooo good I couldn’t put it down until I was finished. I highly recommend it!
Where do I start? Amelia Wilde did it again. I love this story. It took me through a roller coaster of emotions. From chapter one it caught my attention and I knew I wouldn't be able to put this book down.
After I Was His is a story about two characters who are completely the opposite. Two fictional characters with real life stories. Both Wes and Whitney suffered two different traumatic tragedies.
Wes the combat veteran who is serious, calm, a planner, and likes control. Wes suffered a traumatic accident while deployed. Whitney is happy, energetic, spontaneous, and wants to live life to its fullest. Whitney lost her father in a tragic accident.
Both Wes and Whitney may be complete opposites and get on each others nerves but little do they know that they complement each other. As their story develops you fall in love with them in their own unique way.
The story is layered so well that once you start you’ll keep on reading. You will read about the war hero who is trying to adapt to the real world after being in the Army and is suffering from PTSD but refuses to seek help. You will also read about a girl who is so energetic but deep down wants to be loved and live life.
From beginning to end is great . The epilogue was a great way to end because it shows you how two people can compromise and complement each other.
I really enjoy the enemies to lovers trope. Its one of my favorites but I think I have discovered that I cant listen to the audio books for "smut" fiction. Mostly because I just dont like the strong ego male voice of them. I dont enjoy their internal monologue about how hard they get despite treating the girl like absolute shit to cover the fact that they find her attractive. I dont like that the girl falls for it based off of nothing but their looks and somehow that's what binds the story together. I think this is a genre I need to let go. or at least only read the physical book so you dont get an overdone, macho male view.
First, this book can be read as a standalone however, I would recommend reading Before She Was Mine. That way you will get an idea of what is going on and how the fluidity works with these two books. I have to say, I really enjoyed the character development in this story. How Wes and Whitney evolve and become a couple. Wes will get on your nerves. Not gonna lie. But I love a redeemed hero. Especially in Wes. The emotions and pain he was holding on to. Then you have Whitney who is all sass and pushes just as hard. Throughout this story, you have a strong push and pull relationship with these two but the tension both emotionally and chemically is insane! They just explode together. If you are looking for a great story of redemption, look no farther. This one has all the qualities you need. Jerk hero, strong yet broken heroine and sizzling passion that is off the hook.
Amelia you did it again. This story all about Whitney and Wes. There story brought me on a emotional rollercoaster of a ride. They had a didn't get on with each but as time went on they grew to like each other plus there chemistry was off the charts. Want more your just going have to wait till it release's June 5th. I would highly recommended it. I voluntarily reviewed this Advanced Reader copy.
“They say that opposites attract. Nobody ever talks about what happens when they collide.” Those two sentences is why this book After I was His is a phenomenal read. Amelia Wilde made Whitney and Wes come alive with words.
The lady is so clueless. She has no thoughts for anyone but herself. It's like the author tried to make Whit the exact opposite of Summer.
I totally went in reading this one expecting to hate Wes for all the shit he did in the previous book. But no, definitely, the lady was absolutely a wreck.
Book two of Wounded Hearts series was incredible, I loved the first book but book two was so freaking good. 😁 Wes and Whitney, damn that banter, Wes was amazing, that guy changed for sunshine Whitney. 🌼 Beautiful story. ❤️
Story of Wes and Whitney. Wes is Whitney’s best friends (summer) brother who is married to Wes best friend Dayton. I really wanted to love this story, but unfortunately it was predictable. Wes had PTSD and was struggling with getting back to normal life. They met at summers wedding and then summer asked whit if Wes could be whits new roommate as the commute to work was too far. Sadly I skipped a lot of it. Loved Wes character and sometimes whits but it was just a little too wordy and took half the book to get into there story.

I received this as an advanced copy for review and I really enjoyed reading the story of Wes and Whitney as the try and balance their very contrasting personalities. One with a need for order and routine founded from his military past and events witnessed. The other with her spontaneous, wild and adventurous life. I found myself at times nervous for how either one would react to a given situation, almost trying to figure out a compromise that would work for them. I was left feeling like there is definitely more to come from this pair …. Hope I’m right! REVIEW BY LESLIE
REVIEW BY MARIBEL RATING: 5 STARS Whit is summers best friend and her maid of honor. Things are going smoothly so Whit has a couple of Mimosa's. Here comes Summers mother to tell Whit that there is a problem and they need to tell Summer. Summers brother Wes is missing and no one can find him. So they go to tell summer and Whit tells summer don't worry I have it under control, give me 15 minutes. Whit goes on her way and checks the bar inside the hotels, near the hotel and then she thinks to herself maybe the groom didn't check his room. So whit goes there. She knocks on the door until Wes comes to the door. She doesn't give up on getting Wes to come to the wedding. Wes is out from the Army and having some issues Adjusting. Whit has her own issues. Whit needs a roommate and Wes needs to move close to his job. The commute is getting to him. Summer sets it up so that Wes has some where to stay and Whit has a room mate. Opposites attract Wes and Whit are so different. Whit is a free spirit and Wes is finding that out. Wes keeps to himself since coming home from the army. They try and get to know each other and make things work for the best, but its not easy for them. My heart broke for Wes and Whit with the circumstances of there life. It hasn't been easy for them and they deal with it differently. This book was really touching and I enjoyed it so much. I hope to read more from Amelia Wilde. Thank you United Indie Book Blog for allowing me to read this book.
After I Was His is the second book in the Wounded Hearts series, and it’s Wes and Whitney’s story. The first book, Before She Was Mine, shows Summer, Wes, and Dayton as childhood friends. Summer and Wes are siblings, and Dayton is Wes’s best friend. Fast forward, Dayton and Wes are military buddies who both toured in Afghanistan and were in the same horrific explosion, a result of a land mine. Dayton found Summer and they are now a couple. After I Was His follows almost immediately after the first story.
Wes Sullivan is a war veteran, now stateside, he’ battling with himself trying to get ready for Summer and Dayton’s wedding. A panic attack doesn’t help the struggle to maintain control while Wes is in denial that he suffers from PTSD. He grapples daily with the memory of the crushing sound of metal each time he hears a fender bender. Whitney Coalport swoops in wielding her maid-of-honor duty to ensure Summer gets the wedding she deserves, and that means the best man needs to show up at all costs. Confrontation only makes Wes more stubborn and determined to dig in his heels. But when Whitney kisses him, it’s enough to calm his demons and distract Wes.
Wes thinks Whitney is all wrong, ridiculous and vibrant and self-centered and pushy. As a struggling actress, Whitney knows all too well the happy facade she presents is a mask to hide behind. Though people see her as effortlessly funny, brassy, and sarcastic, it’s to hide how vulnerable she feels. She sees more to Wes than the cold and aloof man he shows to everyone. Somehow these two broken souls help heal each other keeping the demons at bay. But how long can Wes deny help for his nightmares before it drives these two lovers apart?
I love the sigh-worthy romantic ending to this story. Amelia Wilde brings us a well-written romance with emotion and characters you can love. I received and voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.
Two broken souls whose parts made one beautiful whole
In some ways this was a very typical contemporary romance and yet through good writing and some wonderful characters this had very unique feel. This is an author who I know writes solid love stories with likeable and believable characters. I loved the sound of this book from the blurb, who can resist a damaged military hero? Or a frenemies-to-lovers story?
Wes is a former soldier, silently struggling to forget the horrors he has experienced and filled with guilt. Whitney is an aspiring actress, determined to maintain a positive attitude and to always make the best of what life brings her. Wes loves order, calm and control, Whitney is spontaneous and loud. Can they find enough common ground on which to build a relationship?
I didn't immediately warm to Whitney as a character. However as I got to know her, and more importantly got to know about her, I really fell for her. She is such a strong and determined character and never lets life get her down. Wes broke my heart with his stoicism, even if he was being pig-headed about getting help. This pair perfectly fitted together despite being totally wrong in so many ways. I really believed in them as a couple and thoroughly enjoyed reading their story.
The ending - oh the ending - it just made me melt. Best of all the epilogue wrapped up the story perfectly.
There is a good mix of romance, steam and angst, with some wonderful humour and some contrasting serious moments. Unless you prefer clean/sweet romances then this is a contemporary romance that I am more than happy to recommend.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
Another slam dunk for Amelia Wilde! AFTER I WAS HIS is an engaging story with lots of passion that is off-the-chart hot and will keep you captivated and glued to the pages of this fascinating storyline. This book maybe fiction, but the storyline can be related to true-life situations. I really enjoyed reading this book and the momentum of the story keeps you wanting to read more. When reading the story, it may make you feel sad, confused, appalled, and even euphoric. From the very first page, I was spellbound by these fantastically described characters that you will find yourself falling in love with. The story about Wes Sullivan and Whitney Coalport is scintillating. I laughed at times during the banter between Whitney and Wes. Wes is an alpha male who also suffers from PTSD from his time in Afghanistan, but also likes to be in control and Whitney is the lucky recipient of his ministrations. It is clear that Whitney has affected him in ways no other woman has before, and I loved how he constantly pushes against her barriers to get to know her—despite her defiance at times. I was rooting for them throughout the story. I also enjoyed the secondary characters as well. The scenes are well written, fast-paced and flow smoothly from one scene to the next while the strong charismatic characters draw readers in and refuse to let go. I recommend this book because the story will pique your interest and draw you in from the beginning.
