Kaguya is the vice president of their prestigious academy’s student council and she's in love with, Miyuki, the president, and he with her! BUT both are well aware that in love there is always a winner... and neither wants to be the "loser!" As both are geniuses and quite proud they spend each day laying in wait for an opportunity to get the other to confess without losing face... only Chika, their secretary seems ready to innocently mess up their careful machinations.

At first I was leery to read this manga because I heard rumblings about the art being poor... I'm telling you upfront to ignore those people!! After 3 volumes I have come to seriously ADORE the art. It isn't your typical boy's art style and that may be the disconnect because its a bit too tongue in cheek to be an automatic girl's manga either. This is for readers who enjoy something a little different from the norm! I love it so much that I NEED to check out the paper volume too...

The great thing is its a perfect story for males AND females as the POV is pretty much split 50/50. Also its about more than this slow burn romance... it has competition and what it means to be an elite, plus we see how neurotic winners can be and how lonely it is at the top. I LOVE how true to themselves Kaguya and Miyuki remain no matter what. The last battle really hit the spot and highlights the conundrum these two are caught up in. It's so, so good!

I flew through this volume to be honest! I just had to see what would happen next... if that's not tension I don't know what is. This is in part due to the fact we really get to jump in with two new characters after concentrating on our leads and Chika for the previous 2 volumes. And I ADORED Ai, Kaguya's assistant and Ishigami, the Treasurer! I wanted to know what would happen with them next...

The plot was soooo entertaining! Kaguya and Miyuki are too hilarious but now we get slightly different punchlines and outcome due to our two newcomers... It really made the story POP! The more we got to know Ai and Ishigami made the littlest interaction so much more... more understandable, more funny and more heartfelt! Soon Chika will be joined by these two in thwarting the games afoot between our two lovebirds... and I can't wait for the games to continue!!

Ai and Ishigami's introductions have really expanded the world that Kaguya and Miyuki and their friend, Chika occupies in the Kaguya-sama: Love Is War series.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Authenticity
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Tension
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Plot
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Art

This is a multi-volume series and there may be references to the plot of those volumes... SO READ WITH CARE! Here is my review of 1 |2 |3 |4 |5

A cute & funny enemies to lovers manga series! Chika Fujiwara is my favourite character by far, even though she isn’t one of the main couple! She is a lot smarter than the others give her credit for.
Is Kaguya trying to kill the Student Council Treasurer, Yu Ishigami? He certainly seems to think so. Will this change Miyuki’s feeling towards Kaguya? This chapter was a highlight because it had some great creepy image frames of Kaguya and Chika covered in blood - in a horror art style!

Started reading this series more or less by accident, and after the first book I was very close to dropping it. Not bad, somewhat amusing, but it felt as if the schtick with two students trying to get the other one to confess their feelings first would wear thin quickly.

But it turned out to be one of those manga series which succeeded to both transform into a genuinely empathic story about interesting characters you want to spend some time with, and the schtick turned out to be better and better. The author is constantly commenting on the happenings, and I laughed out loud all by myself a couple of times thanks to great timing and perfect ending comments on some of the episodes.

The thing making it go to 5 stars though was the courage to dare to go completely serious for a few chapters dealing with Kaguya's background and family. No jokes, no comments, just excellent and sad characterisation. And when the tone then goes back to jokes etc, they feel even better with the deepened knowledge of Kaguya. I really hope it will continue being as good as it's gotten as far as I've read.

Chapter 21
(Read images right to left, and hover over them to see chapter sources [not compatible on mobile])

Good stuff once again! I can already tell that this is going to be big. From what I’ve read just from the manga itself, it seems like this is already quite big in Japan (referring to the fact that apparently the first volume sold out on the first day).

The first two chapters absolutely slayed me, they were so funny. If the hilarity of those chapters were the standard for all chapters then this series would easily be a 5/5 series. Unfortunately, none of the other chapters continued the laugh train that those two started. They were still good though.

Chapter 25

For this volume I decided that to aid myself in rating the volume as a whole I would rate each chapter separately and then take the average of each individual chapter rating and set that as the rating for the volume as a whole. We’re getting mathematical up in this bitch.

Individual Chapter Ratings
Scale:
3 stars: made me laugh a couple times. Medium enjoyment.
4 stars: made me laugh quite a few times. Good enjoyment.
5 stars: made me laugh hysterically for essentially the entire chapter. Very high enjoyment.
Chapter 1: 5/5
Chapter 2: 5/5
Chapter 3: 4/5
Chapter 4: 3/5
Chapter 5: 3.8/5
Chapter 6: 4/5
Chapter 7: 3/5 I was shown a cover for a beach chapter, where was the beach chapter!?
Chapter 7.5: 3/5
Chapter 8: 3.5/5
Chapter 9: 3.5/5
Chapter 10: 3/5

The math adds up to a total of 4/5 stars (slightly rounded), which is good because that’s what I was planning on rating it anyway.

Through my reading of this third volume of Kaguya Wants To Be Confessed To, I realized something. These characters are actually exactly like me. Both Kaguya and… Guy whose name starts with “S”, overthink the frick out of every single situation, and this is actually what makes this series so funny. But, you know what, that’s actually just like me. So many times I end up thinking myself out of doing something just because I was overthinking! And the reason I overthink is also usually because I’m a shy little bean. (///∇///)

Chapter 25
So I thought this page was too cute. (ノ^///u///^\)

So yeah, anyway, good stuff as usual! I’m having a good time reading through this series, highly recommended!

The war of love rages on!

This time we get a lot more of Yu, who I'll be honest...is fucking hysterical.

Warning, there is some play on wanting to die and suicide here. So if those are triggers for you this manga might not work for you. But for me, knowing it's jokes, made me laugh a lot. Yu "I hate everything" view is funny to me. I also love Chika in here, and she continues to be a blast. Both Kaguya and Miyuki love for each other but refusing to say it goes on in the best ways.

Book: Kaguya-sama: Love is War, Volume 3
Author: Aka Akasaka
Rating: 4 Out of 5 Stars

I am still having a great time with this series. I don’t know what it is about this manga this is making me have such a great time. I like the simple nature of the plot and the characters. It’s nice to be able to pick up this series after a long day and enjoy the petty nature of the series.

One thing that I like is the small cast and setting. This series follows just a hand full of characters and much of the plot takes place in the student council room. Normally, this would not work for me. However, the way the author presents the story and the arcs just makes it work. This slower paced and everyday life somehow gives me the chance to escape. It brings you back down to earth and makes you enjoy all of the simple things.

The punchlines between the characters and getting their inner thoughts only adds to the overall story. I personally don’t think the series would work without getting both of their inner thoughts. I don’t know why I found this so amusing. Kaguya and Miyuki just knock the whole thing together. We see them trying to break each other, yet both have feeling for each other. It’s a matter of seeing who came break first. It’s just one of those high school romances that you see that the characters are supposed to be with each other, but they don’t see it. I do like this slow burn though. I think that when they do get together it will have more of an impact. This desire to see what is going to happen is what keeps me going and keeps me reading. I just have to know what they are going to do to each other next.

I know a lot of people don’t like the artwork, but I find that it works. Is it the best? No, but it works for the story that the author is telling. I love the simple style and how the facial expressions are right there and add so much to the story.

If you are looking for a simple manga, I encourage you to pick this one up.

The love war between these two dorks continues in this 3rd volume, as regular romance tropes are put to the test. Things like sharing an umbrella, sharing headphones, and various other ways in which both Miyuki and Kaguya are trying to save face. As usual, each chapter ends with a declaration of who won this round, but I think overall, Kaguya is winning. She is honestly more cunning, more prepared and has the added advantage of Hayasaka as a helper. Meanwhile, Miyuki is trying to maintain his cool genius guy demeanor, but accepts help from Chika to gain an edge.

The situations are comedic as usual, and while Kaguya is a closeted rich kid, she is learning new stuff every day (sometimes thanks to Chika, who we find out has fetishes LOL) and applying that knowledge to seemingly innocent situations leads to some misunderstandings. This volume also introduces the fourth member of the Student Council - the treasurer, who I feel is inconsequential as he is a nerd who hates romance because he doesn't have a girlfriend himself (*eyeroll*) and is mostly just scared of Kaguya (he is not wrong to be afraid of her, though). There are callbacks to previous volumes, but its okay if you don't exactly remember either. I particularly like Hayasaka's chapter, because it gave sort of an outsider perspective on the Student Council trio, which was interesting, to say the least.

Overall - another entertaining installment in this series!

I feel like the story is kicking off more in this volume (or I'm just getting used to the pacing better?). Overall, I found this volume a lot more entertaining than the prior ones. I really like the addition of the new character in the student council- a completely socially inept first year. While I still don't care for the body comparison jokes- the reactions this character gives to his genuine mistakes is funny (of just cringing to the point of wanting to not exist lol). While I don't necessarily find the "i want to die" jokes funny- the cringe of it all- is. Also that Kaguya now has someone to threaten (not caring about appearances) is nice. In general, I feel like the characters come off a lot less harsh- and more slapstick(?)

We get our first chapter where Fujiwara coaches Shirogane. This time, it's about Volleyball! I love their dynamic.

What I also love is the dynamic between Shinomiya & Ishigami. Ishigami thinks Shinomiya hates him wholeheartedly but she's just misunderstood (at times).

My fav character is Hayasaka and she's finally introduced (properly) in this volume.

In the third volume of Kaguya-sama Love is War, Kaguya and Shirogane are up to their usual antics, attempting to force each other to confess their feelings for one another. This volume sees the battles of the umbrella, the illicit shojo manga contraband, a hilarious French lesson, as well as Shirogane's attempt to be more athletic to try and impress Kaguya.  We're also introduced to the elusive treasurer, Yu Ishigami, a stressed and paranoid first year who seems to believe that Kaguya is out to kill him. Fujiwara and Hayasaka have much more involved roles in this volume, with Fujiwara teaching Shirogane how to play volleyball, and Hayasaka doing everything in her power to bring Kaguya and Shirogane closer together.

I've really enjoyed this series so far, and I felt that this volume expanded the personalities and thinking of the some of the side characters even more.  Maybe I just wasn't in the mood for Shirogane and Kaguya's antics in this volume, so it was refreshing to see them interact with other people than each other. Shirogane's interaction with Fujiwara was one that I found very interesting, because it showed an aspect that we didn't know about her. She's sporty, spunky, and definitely so much more than an airhead. Ai Hayasaka was also a character that I loved very much, her cunning and wit are really useful for Kaguya in the long run. I do want to mention that I feel like at the third volume we'd be seeing some sort of progress instead of the same battles of the first volume, but it's not happening...which is mildly disappointing. That said, I am looking forward to the next volume, hopefully we'll  see some more development of their relationship!

I don't usually like to write a review right after I finish a book, but this is an exception. This book is phenomenal. I feel that this book really solidifies the worth of reading the first two volumes. Having the background knowledge of the characters really helps you to appreciate the stories and understand how these characters end up in the tricky positions that they are in. I felt like each story was hilarious and found myself very excited to read the next one. The artwork adds to hilarity of the characters and a new character is introduced that I feel fits in very well. This series has been a great read so far and I would certainly recommend it to others.
Story specific, I feel this volume has had some of the most interesting stories up to this point. The opening story is one of the best for showing the characters in my opinion and for showcasing why it is that they find themselves in the positions that they are in. A new character is introduced in this volume and it really helps to contribute to the overall dynamic of the group. He is unlike any of the others so I really enjoyed watching his dynamics. Then the closing story really helped to solidify the characters' traits and helped to build each of the characters a bit more in my opinion.

This series gets a great deal of attention, some being overly critical, but I find the series to be a charming and fun one. Volume 3 adds more depth to some of the cast of characters (Ai and Ishigami), and it only further adds flavor and depth to the story. It's fun and the stakes are incredibly high for the characters but very low for the reader. It blends the perfect level of entertainment without fears you will be heartbroken from the results of each story. At least those are my feelings as I complete this book. This series is fun, and to me that makes it a MUST READ! That's something I believe we need more in the world.
