The second in the multi-author, post-apocalyptic blockbuster series. Detention camps, curfews, food shortages, and a deadly virus … and that’s only the beginning. America is in turmoil. The running of the country has been completely taken over. Thousands of people have been detained, many still suffering the effects of the bombings, and with no release in sight. When local farmer, Joe, finds his town overrun with foreign soldiers, he immediately begins to stockpile his produce, preparing for what might come. Workers arrive to take over the running of his farm, but he eventually discovers something more sinister at play. On the other side of the country, Cal is facing his own problems and must make a difficult decision that could put his life in danger. There are whispers of a resistance in the air, but what will the cost be?
This book continues the series from the first excellent book by Devon Ford and this is a worthy successor. The story is top notch and leads us to what should be a great next book. I want so much to give it a 5 but I can't because there are just TOO MANY writing errors. Careless names Lillian-Lilian-Lillian, wrong word usage (women's shoes are heels and not heals), grammar (her and her brother) and many, many more. A mediocre editor could have helped a lot of this. Writing is a craft and an art like any other and this author has the great talent for concocting great plots but lacks a lot of the technical skill to execute a great story. That this is so easily remedied yet never attempted is a shame.
I didn't care for the story despite it having an engaging premise. The characters are uninteresting and this installment fell flat in what should have been a chilling and prescient telling of what's to come if we fall asleep at the wheel. On to the third and final one.
It was good to see a continuation of the "Burning Skies" series, and that the underbelly of deceit was so deftly revealed as the invasion unfolded. This author has an understanding of the ways the citizens of the United States of America have and is embracing the various media that are at play in this country with regards to changes that are being pushed upon them. Maybe this book will cause the masses to regard personal research as a more valid education to reality than the many "entertainment" shows that seek to divert eyes from the real problems we face. This book was a good read, I read it faster than any other book in recent memory, and well worth the time to do so.
First off all, what a unique idea having a different author write a book in the series.
I have been a fan of Jacqueline Druga for years. Love all of her books except a few...she has written over 100 . That said...I love this book. Looking forward to Book three. Favorite true quote: Control the food, control the people.”
Really good follow up to the first but the author should sack her proof readers! I have only given 4 stars because the book is full of typos - the story really rated a 5 star but the numerous errors got really annoying. Still well worth reading though and i'm looking forward to part 3.
This is book 2 in the Burning Skies series. A really good book series will introduce new characters and plot lines in each book. Fortunately this is one of those series. The new characters are engaging and the plot expands in ways that make it clear more books are coming.
I'm really enjoying this series and cannot wait for more.
It’s not a bad plot line but there is absolutely no wrap up at the end of the first two books. It’s less of a trilogy and more of one book delivered in three parts. The proofreading is terrible. There are too many spelling and autocorrect errors to overlook.
I am just binge listening to the series and love the idea that it is written by different authors. The series is strangely addictive, combination of interesting story and great narration.
Straight onto book 3.
Again great benefit of audible plus get to find new authors/narrators/series at no cost apart from time.
What a fantastic 2nd act for this series! I really appreciate the different takes on the same characters, while also introducing new ones to the series!
This was also my first book written by this author and I do think I will be looking into more of their work after I finish this series!
I am really excited to move onto book #3 of this series!
Great book! Anxiously awaiting book 3. The authors worked together to mesh their styles providing seamless books that were very well written and enjoyable.
Boring book despite an interesting premise. The characters are flop around--this episode was flat and should have been engaging. The writing felt like it was done by a 9th grader. On to the third and final one.
As usual Jacqueline Druga can really draw you in! She picks up the story of people trying to survive the apocalypse. You never go wrong reading one of her books!
Slightly outside the genre I am currently reading, but so glad I started this trilogy. Good flow between the authors and the storyline is progressing logically and enjoyable to read.
The Burning Skies is a fast paced post apocalyptic survival book written by different authors. Fallout is the second book written by of Jacqueline Druga.
This is a fantastic book! Plenty of action, from beginning to end. I was truly sorry to reach the end of the book. I can't wait to read the next one in this series!
Did not blow me away, as it was hard to connect with the main characters, but there were a few interesting wrinkles thrown in that were unique to the dystopian thriller.
I listened to the audiobook version of this novel with Neil Hellegers at the microphone - well done.
The story remains compelling as the USA reels from the Chinese invasion. The architect and leader of the invasion continues with the implementation of her plan which includes trying to convince the world that China is on a humanitarian mission. Other countries are sympathetic, but also afraid to get involved. This is somewhat reminiscent of Red Dawn and the book even makes several references to the movie.
What I am enjoying is that each book in this series is written by a different author. The first two books of this series flow flawlessly together and are both well executed.
I am headed to book 3, where I presume the US kicks back.
