Boy meets girl, boy wins girl, boy nails girl -- boy’s gone by morning.

I think for sure it must've been a dream because there’s no way a guy could look like that, touch me like that and be so in tune with me on every known level, and disappear, leaving me with nothing but a good story to tell my friends.

When he walks into my bar three months later, everything I thought I knew and what we’d had disappears in the blink of an eye and the blinding light of the three-carat diamond on his fiancée's hand.

It seems what I thought was a dream is now my most complicated reality, and I've got absolutely no idea how to fix it - or if I even want to.

Overall Opinion: This started off great. It sucked me in, I was fully engaged, and the pages were flying (or tapping...🤔). Then the drama started. It was a little too OTT for me personally. I think the h was understandable, but I just didn't get the H! Maybe because we never got his POV until the very end..? His behavior would run majorly hot and cold with him heavily pursuing her, then ghosting her, then showing up with a fiancé, then heavily pursuing her...etc. He would also flip-flop from "doing what's right" to giving in to his desire to be with the h. It was all so exhausting tbh. I also was completely disappointed in the super quick and short ending. I'm classifying it as a HEA, but I really wasn't happy with the ending at all. After all the melodramatics, why not allow us some happy peaceful times before the end?!

Brief Summary of the Storyline: This is Kenzie and Millen's story. They meet one night at the bar Kenzie manages, and sparks instantly fly. Kenzie makes him work for it though, and challenges him to come back the next night. They dance around each other and eventually spend a hot few nights together before Millen has to go back home in another city. Months later after being ghosted, Kenzie is shocked to see Millen engaged to a woman with whom she has a bad history with. Things get complicated, and Millen works to get his one shot at winning Kenzie back. There are some sexy times and some big secrets revealed...and they get a HEA ending.

POV: This was told in Kenzie's POV (short epilogue in Millen's POV).

Overall Pace of Story: Good until the end. I never skimmed and I thought it flowed well other than the abrupt ending.

Instalove: Kind of. The love feelings sure do seem to develop quickly, but I'd definitely say instalust.

H rating: 3 stars. Millen. He was a mixed bag. I'm not sure how I even feel about him. He was confusing most if the time in how he would behave 🤷🏻‍♀️

h rating: 4 stars. Kenzie. I actually liked her more than the H! I felt bad for her past, and I liked how she valued honesty.

Sadness level: Low/moderate. I teared up some, but never needed any tissues.

Push/Pull:Yes

Heat level: Good. They have some good tension, chemistry, and scenes -- but not so much it takes away from the story.

Descriptive sex: Yes

Safe sex: Kind of

OW/OM drama: Yes

Sex scene with OW or OM: No

Cheating: Yes

Separation: Yes

Possible Triggers: Yes

Closure: This had a pretty abrupt ending with a super short epilogue. I would call this a HEA, but I was disappointed in the ending.

How I got it: I got it with my Scribd subscription.

Safety: This one should be either Safe with exception or Not Safe for most safety gang readers depending on personal preferences.

Review @ Vanilla & Spice Books

Awkward, meet Mortifying. Also, here are Shame, Embarrassment, Anger, Disgust, and over in the corner there is Complete and Utter Confusion and her friend I’m Going to Have to Move States and Join a Women-Only Commune with Cats and Unlimited Batteries.

Can you imagine how you would feel if you met the man of your dreams, the mirror of your own soul, the puzzle piece that falls into place effortlessly? And now imagine him being ripped away from you only having to face him after three months, engaged to another...

“Love isn’t perfect,” he says gently. “It’s how you work through it all that’s important. The hard stuff, the obstacles, the highs, the lows, the triumphs, and the tragedies. It’s a beautiful pain that’s always worth it if you’re both willing to work to make things right.” - Kenzie's dad

Kenzie Sharp is one of those heroines I can't get enough of. She lives by pretty simple rules and one of her most important one: no lies. Ever. Honesty isn't just a word to her, she lives it, daily. Kenzie's last name is pretty suitable because she's sharp as a tack, funny and a straight shooter. She will have you question your own moral compass because the things she does in this story go against everything she ever believed in, and probably against everything you as a reader believe in. Yet, it is easy to judge when you haven't walked in the other person's shoes. So I found myself understanding what she went through, why she acted the way she did, because in all the things wrong in her situation, she never lost sight of herself in it.

Her puzzle piece is Millen Ross, heir to the Ross empire. He is endearing. Stubborn, with an iron will, fiercely loyal, caring, cocky and sweet. He lost his shine a bit when he returned into Kenzie's life but I worked through those feelings because I did have an inkling that not everything was as it appeared so soon Millen was back in my good graces. I loved how easy-going he could be but also determined when he set his mind on something, and that's what he needed with Kenzie because she sure challenged him at every corner.

“You completely and utterly intoxicate me. You just have to breathe and I’m reeled back in.” - Millen

Millen's and Kenzie's connection was palpable and credible. Their banter was super-entertaining, especially in the beginning and I found myself smiling a lot as they got to know each other. And their chemistry? Off the charts!

“Do you realize that apart from the two times I’ve been in your car, we usually have a giant piece of wood between us?” I say, opening the menu in front of me despite always ordering the same thing every time I come here.
When Millen doesn’t say anything, I look up to be met by a huge smirk and a raised brow. “Huge?”

After closing this book I feel completely sore and spent, emotionally, BJ Harvey hit where it hurt most with this story. There were times when I thought the angst was too much. It was physically painful. The minute one setback was in the past the next one was already waiting to strike and I felt a little bit put through the wringer. The last chapter and the epilogue really made up for it. There is no couple who deserved their HEA more.

“When we’re apart I’m broken. When we’re together I’m whole.” - Kenzie

No, this book isn't safe but despite all the roller coaster rides it's real. It makes you feel, most certainly uncomfortable too and gives you food for thought. I definitely found myself asking what would I do. It's easy to judge if you have never experienced a love like this or yours was an easy transition.

...there’s a lot to be said for never giving up and fighting for your own happiness. Because when you find that person you’re bound to be with, one thing I’ve learned is to hold on and never let go. - Millen

Go into this book with an open mind, remember that things aren't often what they seem and keep going even if the main characters' actions go against the grain.
BJ Harvey has some major talent. I loved how she sprinkled humor into the story. Her words have a very pleasant flow, which grabbed me right from the start and kept me invested.

With so many authors out there it's hard to pin down one favorite but BJ Harvey definitely has proven to be a new addiction. I'll be coming back for more and definitely for the next in this series.

Hero has cheated on OW with heroine beyond any doubt.

https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

I do not care why, I do not care what kind of arrangement it was. Cheating is exactly what it is. Cheating. And other party knowingly taking part in cheating is an equal loser.

Also, this hero’s love? Is worth shit.

You do NOT just cut ties with the love of your life when you promised you’d call, and you DEFINITELY do NOT show up with your fiancée without prior warning specially when there was no fucking closure.

People who loved this book and fangirls, admire this book at your own space. Do NOT come to my non-review and express your disappointment at my negative thoughts. Just to make it clear, this review does NOT effect the ratings.

I would appreciate an update if he slept with his new fiancé, or any OW during 3 months 'separation' (after he 'disappeared').
And if there is cheating in this book.

Thank you!

I wanted to like it. I really did. But in the end it felt like something was missing.

First of all, the characters felt kinda bland. I finished the book a couple of hours ago and I can‘t even remember their names. Not a good sign...I

Secondly and foremost, I didn’t feel their supposed spark. They meet at a bar one night and have a Date the next Saturday. They spend one weekend together, that‘s it. And all they do during that short amount of time is have sex. I know sexual attraction is important but love is not solely based on that. Their „relationship“ stayed superficial at best. I did not feel a connection at all.

Also, the H turned out to be a dick in my opinion. I get his reasoning behind ending things before they even had a chance to really start but boy, the girl you claimed to love three months later wasn‘t even worth a text message saying that they weren‘t working out or whatever?! He took the coward‘s way out! He didn’t even warn her that he was coming back into town with his freaking fiancée! I kept wishing that the h would wake up and realize her feelings for his best friend with whom she had a friends-with-benefits-arrangement. Add some unnecessary drama with the fiancée aka her childhood nemesis and voilà, the cliche is perfect.

Another thing I didn’t like was the cheating. I know some people wouldn’t even consider it cheating since the whole engagement was part of a business merger and the H didn’t have feelings for his fiancée. But he knew she (however bitchy she may be) had feelings for him and besides, being in love does not justify everything. Hurting other people in the process is selfish and not okay, even if you are oh so in love with the person you are cheating with. The H and h could have waited until he called the wedding off or something. It also did not feel true to the h‘s character. She prided herself on always being honest and never cheating or being the other woman. Yeah, that totally worked out. But I guess it was okay in her case, because she was in love and love is complicated (whatever).

The writing in itself was okay. Unfortunately that was just not enough in the end 🤷🏼‍♀️

Edit:

My kindle broke and this is the last book I read on it, so I‘m fully blaming this novel for that!

Okay, I‘m kidding. I‘m just unreasonably sad right now 😭

Lots of angst and drama in this one. However, the H is weak. The h didn't stand by her commitment to herself. So, H spends a weekend pursuing her, then a week later takes her to dinner - he leaves early in the morning (he lives/works out of town) indicating he will be in touch and for her to text him so they meet again - because he is so into her. She doesn't hear from him again. She leaves him a very strong email on the subject and gets on with life.

3 months later, the H with his fiancee appears where h works. The fiancee is the h's nemesis and the OW waves a huge rock on her finger in front of the h. The H corners h and says he can't stay away from h and to give him a chance to explain - they can work this out. He thought he could stay away.

Ok - I can't even...while the H/h end with a HEA, I say the h will be raising a child before she even has one. He can't extricate himself from the situation honorably (he isn't in love with OW, she trapped him, it's a business deal, his mother is dying and he has to do this for her and save the family business...blah, blah, blah). h had it right in the beginning - run away - run far away.

So DNFed @52% just couldn't take it anymore. I have a bad habit of finishing a book even though I don't like it. But just couldn't make myself finish it.
This is clearly MY Opinion.

This started off with one heck of a bang, and I was gobbling it up like a good'un. But then somewhere the drama-lama, complete with the evil manipulative diva fiance, all got a bit too much and I went from inhaling it to rolling my eyes at the antics.

Millen really needed to man up from the beginning, I hated the way he did a runner on Kenzie. She was honest and upfront with him from the get go, he wasn't. I don't have a problem with cheating in books, real life is a whole other story. I really liked Kenzie, she's strong, honest, funny, snarky and way too good for Millen.

My reviews typically have some spoilers...I'll tag them, but the Goodreads app will not hide them...they will be in []'s...FYI

It shouldn't be a surprise that this book has cheating. Depending on how you feel about cheating; it may turn you off, but it's not exactly typical. If you're on the fence this spoiler will lay out the scenario.

Kenzie Sharp and Millen Ross have an instant connection (like insta-love-lust) They spend a couple of great days together and part with Millen promising to be in touch...but he ghosts her...no text...no calls. FF 3-months, Kenzie is working when in walks her HS nemesis "Lana fucking Mason" sporting a huge engagement ring, and Millen by her side. I didn't find the content a big deal; my major gripe is with the pacing of the plot.

The book starts with a prologue of Lana coming into the bar, and introducing Millen as her fiancé. Then we go back 3-months to Kenzie and Millen meeting and work our way forward for EIGHT chapters. Yes, it takes until 40% of the book, and the arrival of chapter 9 to get back to the present. Then the author pretty much copy/pastes the prologue, and we read that part AGAIN. Everything is soooo drawn out... she freaks for a couple chapters...then they finally talk and agree to lay everything out so we know what is actually going on...but it pushed off again! He needs to rest...they need to eat..blah blah blah We are 60% in before we ever know what's the deal with Millen and Lana, and how their engagement came about a mere three months after our MC's love match. I wish I could say it picks up, but it still takes several chapters of frustrating stupid filler. Around 75-80% we start to finally move to our resolution, and I did really start to enjoy the book. There was forward movement some actual feeling/drama...we hit a speedbump around chapter 21, and we're back to our holding pattern until our H and h finally come together in chapter 25 (the book has 25 chapters:(
Here's an example-

After the absolute snail's pace of the entire book...we get chapter 25 and a 2 page epilogue and that's it. This book could have been so much better if a)Millen wasn't such a pussy and b)we had more story, less filler and an actual balanced conclusion.

Now that’s some angsty beautiful greatness right there! Although this is the kind of romance that completely tears me apart inside, it’s also the type of romance that I absolutely CRAVE! Hands down, 5 STARS all the way!

When it comes to contemporary romance with a comedic edge, Harvey is an absolute STAR in that genre. With ONE SHOT she gives us something unique and different from her usual style, and I couldn’t have LOVED it more! She is bringing the ANGST in spades with this one and it’s definitely NOT your standard happily ever after. She makes you work for that shit…FOR REAL! It’s agonizing, but beautiful in a way you can’t deny. It’s a beautiful pain…one that will pay off in the end, I guarantee it!

Kenzie and Millen, these two have an undeniable chemistry. It’s HOT. It’s REAL. It runs DEEP. From page one, I knew this book would take its toll, but I don’t regret a thing. When it feels like the hope is fading - KEEP READING! Don’t give up on these two characters. I promise you there is an HEA, it’s just not so cut and dry like we are used to and I absolutely LOVE that about this book! I’ve been needing something different to read for a while, and although Ms. Harvey put me through Hell and back, I still LOVE her all the same! If you are looking to actually FEEL SOMETHING in your next read, pick up ONE SHOT today. The feels will flow right off of the pages.

***THREE STARS***
This story had so much potential. It actually started out pretty decent. Kenzi and Millen had fantastic chemistry and the sex was smoking hot between them in this story. I loved the angsty sickness Kenzi felt when she began to believe that she was used and dumped by Millen, after believing there was more between them than just a superficial booty call. I did enjoy the "evil" fiancée Lana though. If this story had a bit more of a believability factor to it, it would have definitely been a solid 4 star read for me.

Kenzie & Millen (such a unique name) could have started a fire with the sparks between them. Kenzie's beauty captures Millen's attention and he does everything within his means to catch hers. Their banter had me cracking a smile and swooning.

Fast forward a couple of months and I felt gutted and betrayed. Though I didn't know the entire story I felt like bit*ch slapping some people until I got to the bottom of this BS!! Once I read Millen's side I still wanted to smack him and tell him to F*ck it all but I could kind of see where he was coming from yet I didn't like it one bit.

The more I read the more I felt gutted and sick because I honestly didn't see a way out of it. But BJ Harvey knows how to work on the emotions and just when you think there is no way out BAM there is but can it succeed?

This was such an amazing read and just argh!!! 4.5 Stars

I have a bit of a love / hate relationship with prologues. The down side can be if it reveals something crucial and then I spend the whole time nervously wondering when this will play out. The up side is the build of anticipation waiting to see how that scene occurs and what it all means :-) So yes, this story starts with a very interesting prologue!

Kenzie meets Millen when he comes into the bar she works at for a drink. It would be fair to say that they have an instant, intense attraction to each other. His beautiful grey eyes draw her to him and the fact that he is absolutely charming adds to the appeal too. The intensity between them makes Kenzie hesitate a bit, this primal urge she has to get naked with him is not something she has experienced before and her mind is telling her to take a deep breath, so the rest of her body can catch up with her thought process.

Millen is very charismatic and charming, he is used to uninhibited attention from women but he is not used to a woman he so clearly wants applying the brakes, when it is obvious they both desperately want each other. However, he is up for the challenge. Patience and time does eventually reward them both and holy shit, when the 'coupling' finally happens, it is deliciously sexy and there is so much heightened feeling between them that is already feels like love.

So how do they get from this wonderfully moment to where they are at in the prologue.... Obviously I am not going to tell you but OMG I went from falling in love with Millen to having him on my shit list. I needed to know how we got from there to here and if he was ever going to redeem himself to me, never mind Kenzie!

How did things go so horribly wrong for them when everything just felt so right? This is a story filled with angst ridden heart ache, puddles of emotion and orgasm inducing sex. When it comes to affairs of the heart, sometimes you only get One Shot.

Some of you are not gonna be a fan of the circumstances going on in this story. This book is not what the book world would deem safe. You've been warned! Now, I hope everyone gives this story a shot because it's realistic fiction. THIS happens. A lot. And until you've walked a mile in the shoes of the people it has happened to, you have no business judging...just my opinion.

B.J. Harvey does an excellent job with Kenzie & Millen. They're ridiculously well suited. You can feel the connection thru the words in the story. That's really important in these situations. My heart was invested in these two (almost) from the start. Yeah, I said almost LOL because I too almost passed a little judgement but then I kept reading and all was good :)

This journey was both a little on the angsty side and on the flip side, a lot of fun. Kenzie & Millen made it fun. Both very strong characters with a ton of wit in their banter that made me smile thru most of the book! Their chemistry was ridiculous *fans self* They just made for a really powerful force together. I really liked them a lot! I could have read a ton more pages of just the two of them going thru life! Excellent read all around!

I Voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book

So I would try any book, any genre anything once. I feel that you have to try something before you can give an opinion. So this book was a bit of a change for me. I know that most people don't mind cheating and I didn't think it would be a problem for me, but for some reason from when it happened this just rubbed me the wrong way.

From the minute that Millen and Kenzie met they were attracted to each other. Kenzie is a bar manager and never takes clients home, and she didn't with Millen either. So she gave him a challenge that if he comes back the next week then she would go out with him. And he did. He couldn't stay away because she intrigued him and he wanted to be with her.

The next week they spend an amazing weekend together and he promises to be back and to call. But he never does and three months later he shows up in the bar with his fiancée. And to top it off the fiancée is sort of Kenzie's nemesis. What happened and why didn't he call and now he is engaged how did this happen.

So the story I enjoyed, what I didn't like was the fact that even though Kenzie knew that Millen was engaged, in a relationship she still went away with him and spent a whole weekend with him while he was still engaged. Even though he told her that he wanted to be with her.
I liked both characters and when Kenzie found out some other issues, she stayed away from him until the truth finally came out. Now this is just my interpretation and everyone reads things different, so what I disliked someone else will probably like. So I am not saying don't read this book, I say try it, you might read something totally different to what I read.

All in all, I love this author's writing and will definitely read more of her books.

Millen and Kenzie

This is about true love an the obstacles that get in the way. The first 50% is slow going. I thought the book I was reading was starting at the cheating. However this does the opposite and starts with a weekend relationship between the two but that last for 50% of the book.

Needless to say after skimming a lot. We got to the good stuff of Lana and Drew and what they did. Kenzo needed a backbone and should of been able to stay strong instead of falling on UT if you know what I mean.

All in all, the truth comes out and they get their HEA!

First I have to say that this is the first book I have read by B.J. Harvey and it will not be the last because I was completely blown away by this story. I mean this story had me yelling at my kindle then swooning over this couple and then angry wondering why things were going the way they were going. But I stuck it out and I am so glad I did because this story is a gem. I will say that if you do have triggers regarding cheating men then know that there is that in this book. But in the end things get better and you'll understand why things were the way they were.

Millen meets Kenzie and sparks fly between them. When he sees Kenzie he is instantly attracted to her. The two have one night of pleasure and he's gone in the morning. Kenzie is not sure what happened because sparks were flying between them and she thought he was going to stay around. Fast forward three months later and Millen walks into her bar with a woman on his arm wearing a ring on her ring finger and Kenzie is floored. At first she sees red and wants to give him a piece of her mind but Millen talks to her and says he can explain.

This is where the story starts to pop off and I mean pop off. I wanted to reach in my kindle and knock the eff out of Millen but he reasoning being everything made sense in the end and I forgave him and was happy with the ending. This is a must read and I hear it is going to be a series so I will be reading the other books.

ARC kindly received in exchange for an honest review.

This was my first BJ Harvey book, as I was recently recommended to her by a friend. It took me until I was about 30% in before I really started getting into the book. At first I was just a bit like, not sure if I like anyone etc etc.

Once I really got into it though, man did I speed through this book. There is a fair bit of angst, but its not too overwhelming, and I feel like a lot of the obstacles thrown in the way of Kenzie and Millen, I saw them coming and even worked out the real answers before they were revealed. But that said, it didn't stop me from wondering if I was right and powering through to get to the end.

The ending of the book was perfect and then the epilogue was really great as well.

I think one of my favourite characters in this book was Gaby, Kenzies best friend, and I really hope she gets her own book. I'm still not entirely sure how I feel about the two main characters, but I can say they both were doing the right thing, even if they went about it in weird ways.

This one was a story of unconventional relationships, testing your morals, trusting your instincts and trying to work out right from wrong from the truth.

DNF at 51% due to the unispired writing, which includes the liberal use of clichés, words that mean the opposite of what the author thinks they mean, cheesy pick up lines delivered by an extremely lame “hero,” and a TSTL heroine who thinks she has a spine but is, in fact, a dickmatized doormat. I should have known this was a clunker when Kenzie’s cute and classy (her word, definitely not mine) first date outfit involved a satin bustier and wedge heels. BJ Harvey, get thee some fashion sense and a dictionary.

3.5🌟

One Shot by B.J. Harvey.........Wow, That prologue! It hooked me into the story immediately. I had to make myself read slowly, as all I wanted was to get to the part of the story that the prologue teased us with. I felt the angst right from the beginning with this read, as I knew what was coming. One Shot was 5 stars for me, as I enjoyed the story, but also because of the angst. I love reading books like this - that have you sitting on the edge of your seat wondering what is going to happen next, was the ending I wanted for Kenzie and Millen ever going to happen because obstacles just kept getting tossed out there!!

The chemistry between Kenzie and Millen is crazy from the get-go, and the easy banter between them makes it seem as though they have known each other longer than they actually have. However, Millen doesn't give much away initially, definitely keeps his cards close to his chest. Poor Kenzie is so torn at times throughout this book........Does she do what she feels is right? Trust in Millen and his reasons? Give in to her feelings and hope for the best outcome? Ahhh, the angst in this book most definitely kept me reading and engaged with the story.

Kenzie's best friend Gaby - I am so looking forward to reading her story and finding out what was going on with her. She was an awesome bestie to Kenzie, and always looked out for her. Definitely looking forward to reading more in this series, there are a few other characters that I now need to know more about.

You want to get in at the beginning of this series. There was a lot here to take in. Great characters. Great friendships. A smart, witty, strong, female, Kenzie. She had the most unbelievable encounter every and it was all gone by dawn. Cinderella this was not but hey, a girl had a right to dream. That was until he returns and this time he was not alone.

The drama (family and other), the sadness, the pain, the laughs, the tears, the honesty, the intensity. One read and so much that could make you very happy you picked up the book or make you wish that you did not. I got a full body read that gave me a chance to experience a full range of emotions. I was taken on that ride, that journey, that discovery. Millen and Kenzie were h2o, the meshed until they didn’t. The working was jut pure chemistry and compatibility. The not working was interference, obligations, and enemies.

Must read and don’t stop. You will get frustrated. You will get aggravated. You will want to throw you eReader/print copy, whatever. But you have to stick with it. You will love this read. Its intense, consuming, and gives so much.

I am excited to see where BJ takes us next. There are some really good characters within this read. Some are not so nice, others are supportive, each have a story that could be told and enjoyed.

WOW... where do I start reviewing this story! I was lucky enough to be given an ARC of this book for an honest review. This book is about a boy and a girl who fall into an extremely intense relationship that is fraught with angst, family loyalties and challenges that will make you laugh, cry and want to throw your kindle! The chemistry between Millen and Kenzie is off the charts hot.. from their first meeting the sparks fly and for a short time they’re inseparable... until Millen leaves only to return months later engaged to Kenzies nemesis Lana Harris! His family responsibilities have bound him in a loveless engagement but the bond between him and Kenzie can’t be denied by either of them the pull is just too great... will family loyalties win out and deny Millen and Kenzie their happily ever after or can true love conquer all. A must read story... a fantastic start to an AMAZING series I can’t wait to see where BJ takes this series next.

Once I started reading, I couldn’t stop! I had to find out how Millen and Kenzie happened and why they stopped happening. Not safe for those looking for “safe” books but an awesome read! And not just saying it because it’s based within close driving distance of my town 😊.

Kenzie never flirts or picks up any of the bar patrons at work. Except Millen is a bit different. And seriously, reading his comments and their sexy banter made me want to take him home!! Everything is going well until he ghosts her and shows up back at the bar with a few surprises in tow.

At times you want to smack Millen for what he’s done and other times you want to hug him and console him. Such a great read. I hope Gaby gets her HEA. She’s too sassy not to!

Kenzie falls for Millen and thinks he is the one. Three months later they meet again and he is engaged. This book is filled with the ups and downs of their relationship and their fights to stay together. Good Story.
