I first met Dr. Sultan following a session she presented at an Association for Assessment and Research in Counseling conference. Her presentation was amazing and I felt inspired to move forward with a heuristic inquiry for my dissertation research study.
This book was critical to my understanding of heuristic research. Before reading Dr. Sultan's book I was feeling lost and uncertain about how heuristic research works. This textbook is comprehensive, easy to understand, and very well organized. It is rich with information about the multiple processes and phases of heuristic inquiry and the appendices are invaluable! Dr. Sultan's tone throughout the book reflects who she is as a person: warm, engaging, experienced, and immensely supportive, and grounds the reader in the importance of being authentic and present.
Dr. Sultan, I cannot thank you enough for writing this book for those of us who have felt, for a very long time, the absence of a research approach that offers a voice to more silent populations and demystifies research for all of us researchers who have been told by other voices that qualitative research is not legitimate. Your book puts those oppressive voices to shame!

Fundamental for any researcher exploring social, cultural, historical phenomenon. It almost reads as a how-to guide for evolving past neo-liberal lenses and opens the possibilities for relating and meaning making in our human and more-than human world.
