What did I like? Besides the obvious, being about mystery and active children, this one was the best that I have read so far in this series. The action was believable and fun, the kids were I think more involved on a higher level than before. Here’s another book to be shared with my children and grandchildren. I have decided that this series should be in the school systems for kids to read. They are a lot better than some of the horrible books that have tons of violence and no direction for children to learn from.
What will you like? A well-written storyline with awesome characters that have been growing since he first book. Each book has shown that you don’t have to have cuss words or major violence for it to be an enjoyable read. I have shared these books with my grandchildren and they are always clamoring for more. I love the location and the year that the books are set in. These are active children that have adult respect given to them and they have the same for the adults. They show ingenuity in solving their mysteries along with lots of guts something that our kids today have forgotten how to use. The other thing I like about these kids is that they love to be outdoors and exploring. Something that is nonexistent now a day!!! Highly recommend all the books in the series for all to enjoy. A 'Thrilling Adventure' is what the book promises and it sure delivers one, end-to-end!
I enjoyed reading every bit of this book even though the target audience is perhaps children:-) It is gripping, engaging, and easy read so I make a start thinking I would finish it in bits and pieces, but couldn't move away from it. It was so interesting that there was a compelling need to complete it right away! So I was done, over a couple of hours and a cup of tea, forgetting all other activities! The books kind of brings out the child in you if I may say, and given the simplicity of narration it seems almost real and makes you feel like you're involved in the story. It makes you take on a character and think what you would do if you were actually in it! A number of nail biting as well as aha moments later I happily conclude it was definitely worth a read and left me wishing if only it were longer, so I could go on. If only this was made into a movie I could watch it again and again just to re-live the moments. The author has penned down a wonderful story that would appeal to kids and adults alike, and I hope there is a sequel at some point. Highly recommended!
The Mystery of the Crown Jewels by Paul Moxham This book starts out with the kids getting an unexpected visitor: Nadia from a previous book and they learn of the kings birthday celebration that they are invited to, in Monrovia. Parents let them travel with her and they meet the circus people and are given a tour of where the jewels are kept. While the performance goes on the jewels are stolen and everybody is searched high and low. Joe thinks the jewels could be in the lions cage because nobody would ever search there. He watches and sees the lion tamer with a ransack and he meets Mr. Chang and hands over the sack.... They follow and chase and a fire erupt almost killing one boy. Others come to the rescue.... for a bit.. So much more action as they trace the jewels and try to recover them.... Fire on the plane, blowing up, bridge falling apart as they cross and so many more dangerous scary things....
