Knowing she is leading with her heart instead of her head, Madison McKenzie accepts a job offer from Derek Jackson that sees her heading for an extended stay on his ranch. He’s everything she shouldn’t be attracted to, but the older man has slipped into her heart.
Derek Jackson has been alone for a long time and he certainly isn’t going to start going after a woman the same age as his son. So why did he offer Madison a job knowing that she would have to spend time living on his ranch?
Her attraction to him is obvious, which certainly isn’t helping his resolve to stay away from her. He needs to do something to make her stay away from him, and he comes up with a plan—he’ll date a woman his own age!

Derek is different to everyone she’s ever met before, and significantly older than she should take interest. He’s in his late forties to her twenty-five, Madison is two years his son, Tanner’s junior. Derek decided to ignore the attraction existing between them and began dating Dee. From the gossip she’d only moved into the area three months ago and set her sights on Derek from the very beginning. Twice a week Madison sits through dinner at the house as Dee prattles on about everything and nothing. It’s unclear if Derek pays attention. Madison doesn’t.
Being at the ranch working on the paintings he’s commissioned her to do isn’t doing anything positive for her anymore. Hopefully she’ll be able to move on with her life when she leaves. All she’s doing is hurting herself, watching him date someone else. Witnessing him kiss her cheek as he sees her to her car after dinner.
Then there’s Tanner, two years older than Madison and he approves of Dee as more suitable for his father but disapproves of Madison. Tanner has always been his father’s number one priority, especially after his mother had died and his acceptance of their relationship would mean more to Derek than he’s let on to Madison.
She wants to find true happiness, a man who isn’t ashamed to be seen with her. Someone who will look at her adoringly—as though she’s his entire world but Derek and Tanner can’t seem to move past the age difference. Tanner begrudgingly delivers an ultimatum as a condition to his acceptance.
Is Derek a man or a mouse?
Dee becomes an utter nuisance and one cannot help but assign blame onto Derek’s shoulders for her blatant attempts to insinuate herself into his life and sabotage their growing relationship.
Tanner at twenty-seven needed to grow the bloody heck up. It’s not as though they were strangers and Madison a gold-digger. He also needs to get past the age difference and his selfishness.

Oh. My. Heart! This author gets me every time, especially with this series! It's a spin-off of the McKenzie brothers and follows the lives of their children, hence McKenzie Cousins! Madison (Sebastian and Carla's daughter) and Derek (Tanner's Father) have been in each other's sights for a while now, both being inexplicably drawn to each other. There were times in the book where my heart broke for this couple, so clearly attracted to each other but fighting it because of the age difference. But love knows no bounds. ALL. THE. FEELS!! If you haven't already, pull up a chair, get comfortable, come and meet my extended family.....because that's what it feels like every time I open up on of these books. It's like coming home!

If Only was a fast paced, quick insta love romance. That was sweet, easy to read and had me completely engaged throughout, and with two likable main characters, a few appearances from the McKenzie cousins, including Paige, and little angst. This was a really enjoyable addition to the McKenzie Cousins series.
And I'm really looking forward to reading more from this series. Especially Paige and Seth whose story Princess and the Puck is up next. And I would happily recommend If Only to others. Especially if you're a fan of the McKenzie Cousins series, or just enjoy insta love stories and particularly ones that feature an older guy and a younger gal.
Oh My! I really enjoyed this book! I had been looking forward to this one. It didn’t disappoint, either. These two have been fighting the way they feel for quite some time. Once they give in, though, it's very explosive between them. They light the screen up like the Fourth of July! I love this book! It's a Five Star Read for me!
Awesome Read - we get the love story of Derek and Madison - it proves that age doesn't matter the heart wants what the heart wants and it doesn't matter what ours think.
I was really looking forward to this book, I love Derek and Madison. I am super happy they found their way together, I just wish there was more of their story!
Great catching up with the McKenzies. Derek and Madison finally have their HEA, this was a quick short read but a love story to be frae. Cant wait for Geary and Olivia.
