Restless Storm

Rate this book

Imagine losing everything you loved. Could you go on?

After her father’s death in an unexpected storm, Madeleine Core knew she needed to leave her home behind. The island of Crystal Cove, surrounded by the very element that killed her only family, reminded her too much of the things she lost. Not even one special person could convince her to stay. Now, two years later, a devastating phone call changes everything.

When a storm threatens to destroy the only place that feels like home, Jake Barron knows he needs to do everything in his power to protect the people who saved him. Including Maddy, the one who left him—and everyone else on this island—and never looked back. Seeing her again after two years brings back painful memories for both of them, the betrayal and hurt as fresh as the unresolved feelings they have for each other.

Maddy is forced to go back to the one place she vowed to never see again—and face the person she left behind without so much as a word. As the deadly storm moves on Crystal Cove, Maddy and Jake try to find a way to fight their fears and doubts. Sometimes two people determined to stay away from each other need a push, but what if their second chance is just as restless as the storm blowing in?

Jamie is an author, wife, mother, reader and coffee lover who loves to take you on an emotional ride with her books.

When she was younger, it was her best friend who got her into writing in the first place. School was boring? Afternoon off? Fanfic writing was what they would do for hours to no end. Publishing, though, hadn't been anything on Jamie's radar until she woke up one day from a very vivid dream. It was one of those you can't get rid of, so she ended up writing it down. And writing some more on it. Until a full story started to emerge. It was her best friend who ended up pushing her to take the next step and put the book out there.

Ever since then, Jamie has been writing all kinds of different stories, all centuring around women or girls fighting against their inner (or sometimes outer) demons. The stories range from Young Adult fantasy, to women's fiction or contemporary romance. Whatever idea comes to Jamie's mind.

When she's not writing, Jamie can be found spending time with her friends and family, sitting on her deck enjoying an Iced Latte, watching one of her million TV shows or simply sleeping (cause let's be honest, sleep is hard to come by with small children). She lives in beautiful Germany where she's currently conjuring up her next book.

"I needed to find my happy. My true happy. God, if only it weren't the one thing I was most afraid of finding."

Restless Storm was my blind date book for August and my first read by Jamie Summer.

"With the water rushing through every piece of my soul, I knew I was finally back where I belonged. I was finally home."

This book is a nice and slow-burn romance read but sadly to me nothing really special. It kept my interest enough to continue reading. It's an emotional story about overcoming loss and fear, learning to open up to love and life again and letting go. But unfortunately it didn't really touch me.

"She was my ocean, my place of peace and quiet. She was my sanctuary. And always would be."

The characters were easily lovable but I missed some character development and I had trouble feeling the connection between Jake and Maddy.

"I reached for him like a moth to the flame, hoping he'd catch me when I fell apart."

However I enjoyed reading Jake and Maddy's story and some of their scenes are really good and intense between those two but mostly the whole story bobs up and down until the storm hits. That's were it gets a little angsty and a little thrilling but it dies down pretty quickly.

"He made me feel alive. He made me feel save. And he made me feel at home."

So boring.

I felt there wasn't much character depth. I didn't get the connection between the two characters.

The book was overly depressing and didn't feel like it was going anywhere.

I’ve spent a lovely afternoon in the garden reading this. I can’t believe this is my first read by this author but after reading this I know it won’t be the last read. Love the cover.

My heart broke for Maddy and it didn’t mend for quite a while. After her father died Maddy fled the island as she couldn’t bare it. Everywhere she looked there were memories. Two years away from the island and she was only surviving day by day. That is until a phone call from Jake was calling her home. She didn’t know if she could cope but she’s strong. I was so rooting for her. The authors words had me feeling as if I was going through Maddys heartache with her.

This is a really well written story about loss and heartache, about taking second chances when you can. This story felt so real that the angst had me holding my breath.

I’m really looking forward to reading more from this author.

My review is 4.3 stars.

I have read many books where where there are events that are horrible. This book revolves around such an event. But the important thing that capture the attention and let you sunk in is the feeling and the emotions beneath the words. Both the character of the story are heart-broken for the reasons and author portrayed the characters very beautifully. I really love how she gambled on the character and story.

Both the characters of the book Maddy and Jake are written beautifully, there pain and fear is portrayed superbly. I loved the connection between the two. This is a superb example of second chance romance. The agony that goes inside you when you have love inside you but you can express that to anyone, I felt that.

The plot and the story is awesome and they really are complimenting each other really well. I was little afraid of the pace of the story and have my doubts that I may lose the book and the story but Jamie really captured me and never let me go.

Let me make clear once again, I didn’t like the book, I loved it.❤️❤️

I would like to recommend this book to all the readers who are actually searching for a good read to make themselves feel good!

I loved this story.
Maddy ran away from her island home on the death of her grandfather, as she couldn't bear the memories everywhere she looked. She left behind Jake the man she had feelings for.
Two years later she has a call from Jake to say there's a massive storm on the way and the island may not survive it.
With great trepidation she goes back to collect any mementos she wants to save.
She reconnects with her best friend as if no time had passed.
But Jake was a different matter.
What would happen with him?
The story is so well written that I got lost in it and couldn't put it down. Hope you enjoy it just as much as I did.

This story really hit home with me. The realness, how realistic it was, I found myself really connecting with Maddy. It was a emotional story, about loss, fighting your inner demons, learning how to let go and recover, and lastly true love.

✯✯5 Restless Stars!!!✯✯

Jamie Summer has written another amazing story. She loves writing stories with her characters having a love of water. This was no different.

Maddy grew up on Crystal Cove. It’s a small island surrounded by water. Her father was the captain of his fishing boat. One day her father went out on a regular day, for a storm to come out of nowhere. Maddy’s dad didn’t survive the storm. Few days later Maddy got on the ferry and left Crystal Cove. She couldn’t survive without her dad, her last family member. Maddy didn’t tell anybody she was leaving. Not Jake, her best friend the guy she’s in love with or anybody she grew up with.

Two years later and Maddy still has no intention of returning home. Maddy is barely living. She doing nothing but go to work just to stop her mind and hurt from thinking and hurting. Then Maddy get a call from her past. Jake. And, he called to let her know one thing. There’s a storm coming to Crystal Cove and it night wipe out the Island. If she wants anything from her dads house she better come get it before it’s too late.

Jake’s not sure what to expect when Maddy says she’s coming. He does know it’s best he stay away for now. So, he sends Maddy’s best friend Anna and her Mom Grace to get her at the ferry. Jake still doesn’t know what’s going to happen with the storm. His plan is to make sure the residents staying on the island stay safe and they don’t loose anybody else in a storm like Maddy’s dad. His other plan is get Maddy on the ferry off the island before she’s stuck here any longer.

Maddy wasn’t planning on coming home this soon. If ever. And, the last thing she expected was her best friend Anna and her mom Grace to pick her up and with open arms. Maddy expected the people of Crystal Cove to hate her for leaving without a word. But, that was farthest from the truth.

Her emotions were all over the place. Everything made Maddy cry. Luckily she’s got so many people around her to catch her when she falls. The more time she spends with Jake, Anna, Grace and everyone else Maddy realizes she’s been gone long enough. Maddy tells Jake she’s not leaving. Except it isn’t that easy. No tourists are allowed to stay on the island and Maddy has been gone for 2yrs so technically she’s not a resident anymore. Maddy has no choice but to leave her friends and doesn’t know if she’ll ever see them again.

I loved Jake!!! He loved Maddy and everybody on the island. He wanted everybody happy, healthy and safe. Even though he faked a smile when Maddy was gone.

Maddy got in my nerves for about 75% of the book. Her poor me attitude got on my nerves after awhile. Everybody has lost somebody we care about, but that doesn’t mean you leave everybody you care about. But, at the end she made up for it.

I am looking forward to Jamie’s next book. I wish she’d write more from the people on Crystal Cove. ESP Scott and Anna.

What a journey!

The author Jamie Summers writes this book with such passion showing each one of the character's deepest fears and hurt whilst bringing the reader along with every wave that crashes in a storm not just from mother nature but from the storm going on with-in each characters heart.

Restless storm is a story of a girl who has lost all faith and hope in everything, even the sea that once used to calm her is now a daunting reminder of the life she used to have before that day it took the last part of her heart away and how fate in the eyes of a storm makes her return to the island she once called home and to the one heart she cannot deny her love for.

Maddy is a girl who has chained of her heart and every emotion, an orphan child who through grieve cannot open her heart. Maddy takes us on a journey that reveals how losing those closest to you shatters your heart.

It delves into the impact grieve can have not only on closest family but in a community and how strength in a small community is powerful.

The hero in the story Jake is a man who despite trying to mend his heart to move on can only ever truly love the one who stole his heart and then ran away with that heart.

When a storm threatens to remove the parts of Maddy she once wished to forget it reminds her of the depth of true friendship and the bond shared with a community.

Despite all of this one call changes her current life:

"Why did Jake have to call? Why bother me in my somewhatcontent existence? Because you’re anything but happy in your existence. Because the island, no matter how much you want to deny it, is still home to you".

The strongest path this book takes you on is the story that no matter what home is truly where the heart is even if you try with every inch of you to block it out.

This is the first book of Jamie Summer’s I’ve read and I really enjoyed it! Maddy lost her father, a fisherman, out at sea in an unexpected storm. Growing up in Crystal Cove, the ocean was a part of her as well as the local people. But the death of her father brought much pain and devastation, so she packed up and left the island without much thought of what her leaving would do to the people she left behind. Jake has always liked Maddy in a more than friends way, but he never got the chance to see if there could be anything more since she just left. A surprise phone call 2 years later brings Maddy back to the island to face her fears, deal with her grief, and make amends to the people she hurt when she left.

Both Maddy and Jake are hurting in different ways. Maddy misses her father and blames the ocean for taking her only family away, and Jake is mad & frustrated that she abandoned the island and everyone on it. When they see each other again there is a lot of hurt, anger, and pain. There is also the connection between the two that has not gone away, even after 2 years apart. As they spend more time together they have to find a way to forgive and deal with the pain and hurt if they are going to have a chance for a future together.

The book was very descriptive and dealt with a lot of emotions. I loved the secondary characters as they were important figures in helping the main characters fight through their fears. Overall a great story and looking forward to what the author will be bringing us next.

Received a copy for an honest review.

5 Heart Breaking, Beautiful Stars!!!

I was given this book in turn for an honest review.

When faced with returning to the Island, Maddy once called home, old feelings resurface. Will Maddy find solace in Crystal Cove once again, or will the impending storm destroy the possibility of any second chances?

Jamie summer writes captivatingly and beautifully; she lures you into the story in a way you find yourself never wanting to leave. Restless Storm is a beautiful work of art. As your drawn into the beautiful Island of Crystal Cove, you start to feel a connection to the Island yourself. You find your heart breaking with the fear, these people are facing; hoping, and praying, they won’t suffer any kind of loss during the approaching storm.

Although this story is ultimately a second chance love story, there is a lot more to this story than just the relationship between Maddy and Jake. This is about a community and how this community come together in times of need, how everyone to them is family and they will always have each other’s back. How the place Maddy once called home and its people, can help to heal her broken heart, showing her, everything she needs, is on the Island.

Through both Maddy and Jake’s eyes we experience, how strong, caring, loving, and accepting the people of Crystal Cove are and how lucky they feel to be cared for and accepted by this community.

I was routing for Maddy and Jake from the beginning, they had been dealt a rough path, especially Maddy and she was finding it hard to find her future path. The hurt of her father’s death had given Maddy the feeling that she had lost everything and that the Island had destroyed all she had ever loved. It was clear how deep the love between Maddy and Jake ran, they were meant to be.

This is the first book of Jamie Summer’s I have read, and it won’t be my last. Restless Storm is a standalone contemporary romance novel, perfect for all romance readers.

I really liked this book, suspense, drama, more suspense...my kind of read. Spoilers ahead.....

Maddy lost her beloved father while he was out in his fishing boat. The ocean that she loved took him during a storm. She was so devastated that she left the island she had lived and loved her whole life to go to the mainland and live, or rather go thru the motions of living. Jake was her love from the island, after 2 years he reached out to her to tell her the upcoming storm was gonna be the worst any of them have ever seen, and if she wanted to save her father's house, she better come quick. She did, ran back and grabbed the few things she could, while realizing she loved the island and needed to be there, and rekindle her live with Jake. But the mayor considered her a non resident and made her leave during the storm. All she did was worry, while Jake and everyone she cared about fought for their lives during the worst storm the small island had ever seen. They survived and Maddy moved back immediately, and they all lived happily ever after.

"With the water rushing through every piece of my soul, I knew I was finally back where I belonged. I was finally home."

Touching and poignant, the story, although a little slow at first, transformed into a beautiful tale of introspection, human survival, facing your demons, and finding your place in the world. It touches on many emotions, went in a direction I didn't expect, and I got so involved that I stayed up until the wee hours to finish! I enjoyed the sweetness of the couple, the layers of the story, and the secondary characters felt real and genuine. Once the couple got past all of their reservations, and obstacles, their connection was pretty solid, and the story is so well-written, you hardly notice that they don't get much time together considering the life and death situation. I overall enjoyed it and thank the Author for providing a copy to review.

Restless Storm

Wow. I'm a fairly new fan of Jamie Summer so I'm not super sure of what to expect from her work. If the fact that I devoured this book in a few hours says anything, I'm clearly a fan.
This book follows Maddy going back to the island of Crystal Cove for the first time in 2 years. She grew up there, but after a tragedy she moved away without looking back. An impending storm and a phone call from Jake bring her back to the island. Following Jake and Maddy and the other inhabitants of the island over the course of the few days was intense. I found myself biting my nails through the storm. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and would gladly recommend to anyone!

Absolutely loved this book! This was my first book I’ve read by Jamie Summer and I feel like she knows how to pull on the heart strings. She made my heart hurt with the struggle that Maddy was going through and then the build up to her finally coming to terms with everything and finally letting Jake into her life was the best feeling.

I loved the secondary characters also! They were a huge part of the story and written so well that you feel in love with them.

I have fallen in love with the way Summer tells a story. I picked this up because I'd read her other works and loved every part of them. The same can be said for this, a heart-breakingly tender love story that comes from a place of pain, recovery and just plain love. I was on the edge of my seat throughout the book, wondering if Maddie and Jake would be able to make it work. The book is told from dual POV and I loved every second of it. Highly recommended!

I received this book via Quirky Blind Date with a Book on Facebook. Many thanks to the author also.

This is my kind of book, a slow burning story where I was constantly willing Maddy to get a grip and talk to Jake. The setting of the story is brilliantly done and the danger element kept me reading until I was done.

A definite recommendation from me.

After the devastating loss of her father Maddy needs to leave the small island they lived on because the memories are to intense to live with. When a severe storm threatens the island and her old house. she needs to return to collect items that were important to her. What she collects are much more important than memories.

This book hit me like a storm! It's sweet yet has a enough action to keep you on the edge of your seat.

Maddy Core was raised by her loving father after her mother died when she was a child. She works alongside him in his fishing business. When a storm that no one could predict kills her father, she's left lost, lonely and confused.

She realizes she can no longer stay on the island, the only place she's ever called home without him. She decides to leave and start a new life as far as possible.

When she gets a phone call from Jake Barron telling her she's needed back on the island will Maddy be able to overcome her fears and return home to the people she once considered family.

A 4 star story that dealt with loss and grievances. Everyone grieves in different ways. This story demonstrates that.

Maddy left the island where she grew up after the loss of her father because she was unable to delay with it. She also left Jake behind. She returns unwillingly to save momentum’s in her family house. There is a storm coming that could jeopardize the island’s future. Jake is there to help her go through it all.

This was a beautifully written story with a storyline that unique in it’s way. It was a slow easing into the story with minimal drama. It was mostly about sadness and grieving.

Standalone told in a dual POV with an HEA.
