Out of Sync

Rate this book
Everything has been out of sync since he walked away from James. Is it possible to make it right?

Ten years ago, Morgan Weaver walked away from everything he loved—his burgeoning career as a composer, his cello, and his best friend, James. Family obligations and guilt keep him tied to a job he hates, and his dreams have collected even more dust than his instrument.

James Shepherd was left reeling when Morgan abandoned not only their dreams of writing and performing together, but their friendship. James forged on to become an internationally known musician, but he’s always felt Morgan’s loss and has never been able to shake the feeling that he’s responsible for the other man’s choice to leave everything behind.

A simple request from Morgan’s sister brings the men together in a way neither of them expected, and long-denied desire bubbles to the surface overwhelming them both. Knowing it’s only temporary, Morgan finds himself lost in a haze of submission, finally able to experience being at James’ mercy and determined to enjoy it while it lasts. James, however, has other plans and is equally determined to show Morgan he can have all he’s ever wanted—including what they have together.

I always enjoy when one of my favorite reads is released in audiobook format. I appreciate “rereading” the book in the more dynamic format, especially if the narrator helps bring the emotion and characters to life. This is true of Out of Sync by Bronwyn Green.

Once a promising musician, Morgan Weaver walked away from what he loved to fulfill his father’s expectations. Now he’s stuck in a job he hates, working for the family business, spending little time outside the office. He hasn’t composed or played music in years, not since he walked away from his dreams, and the man he loved.

James (Jamie) Shepherd continued playing music after school, creating a life doing what he loves and is now a successful musician. Once roommates, James and Morgan haven’t seen each other in over ten years. However, James remained friends with Morgan’s sister, so when he finds out that Morgan is refusing to play at her wedding, James decides to confront the man who used to be his best friend, bringing them together in all the best ways.

From my original review (October 2015):
“Right from the start, Out of Sync captured my mind and heart. I found myself engrossed in Jamie and Morgan’s story, uncovering what happened that drove a wedge between them, and watching them rediscover their passion and love for both music and each other. … The author does an amazing job capturing the longing and heartache both men have felt over the years. When they finally come together, it is amazingly sexy and passionate. I ached for the pair as they navigated the bumpy road to happiness. And their journey is filled with detours and potholes, causing this reader to cry out in heartbreak. I love the emotion the author packs into the story, crashing into me from all sides.”

The narration by Mr. Diamond adds value to this heart-wrenching and lovely tale. He pours so much emotion to the already packed story. He reaches deep for anguish, passion, and joy, adding soul to the characters. His voice and accents are lovely to listen to. But while I love Mr. Diamond’s voice, the Narrator, James, and Morgan’s voices are all similar, and I got confused over who was speaking, especially during moments of fast-paced dialogue. Slowing down the speed probably would help with that, but at 1.25x it just sounded too slow. (I listened at 1.5x.)

In the end, I found myself completed re-engrossed in Jamie and Morgan’s story. Mr. Diamond’s performance, while confusing at times, adds much to the story, taking this “A” book to an “A+.”

My Ratings:
Book: A+
Narration: A-

So good!
I loved this book so much! My first Bronwyn Green book and I’m in love with her writing! I listened to the audio of this, and the narrator brought so much emotion to an already beautiful story. I was helpless to fall in love with Morgan and James, and the music that binds them together. I haven’t read any of this author’s other books (yet) so I can absolutely say this can be read as a stand alone.

New love is great, but I love a second chance story.
They already share a history and know each other so well.
10 years is a pretty big gap.

Not overly agnsty.
Glad to see Morgan get out of that job.

3.5 Heart Review by Roberta

When I saw the blurb for this book, I was very intrigued. I love a story regarding second chances and lovers reuniting. This book was so wonderfully sweet and just made me smile. Well, smile and make me want to hit someone.

So, with that in mind…here we go!!!

Morgan Weaver is a man whose life isn’t want he wanted for himself. He has ALWAYS wanted to play music. However, that wasn’t what his life became. He did what was expected of him by his father and had taken his rightful place as the heir apparent. Unfortunately, that isn’t working out for him. His heart isn’t in it. He does what he must to get things done, but it’s just a job. It’s not what makes his heart soar. It has been so damn long since Morgan has picked up his cello, that he wouldn’t remember what to do. Morgan is just so damn unhappy. Not only is he working a job that he really hates, but he’s been denying himself the chance for love and companionship.

James “Jamie” Shepherd is a world-renowned cellist who is an old friend of Morgan’s. James has the world at his feet and yet, the most important thing that he’s ever wanted isn’t there, Morgan. James has always wanted Morgan and the music that they wanted to create together. James is really talented. He can play with so much soul and passion. James has stayed friends with Morgan’s sister and for her wedding…James is going to play and he wants Morgan with him. I love that James is a pushy character when is comes to dealing with Morgan. I love that he knows just how to push his buttons. James is such a strong character and even when he’s a bit vulnerable…he’s still strong and dependable. I love that he wants Morgan in his life and that he’s going to do whatever he has to in order to make it work.

They were roommates in college and one night when things went a bit farther than they were ready for. That moment changed the way things were for both of them and it sent them on their separate paths. I like that these two men have the chance to right the future. You can’t change the past, but you can make a fresh start and these guys have to muddle thru the past in order for them to accept the future. I like that they both want the present and that Morgan has to make decisions based on what’s right for him. I like that each character has to grow up and realize that you can’t make the decision for someone else on how to live your life, you have to make those decisions for yourself.

These two men both grow up during this story and it was so wonderful to see. I love seeing them together and seeing how they relate to each other and just how their friendship grew into lots of love and happiness.

Now, as with most stories, there are those who aren’t the nicest of people. Morgan’s father was that guy in the story. He was so into his business and pretty much bullied his family. To put business before your family is just so damn wrong and this guy hated the fact that his son was gay and made Morgan hide who he was. But as it happens, he got his comeuppance and that makes me happy.

The sexy times in this story was really nice and sexy. I enjoyed seeing their relationship blossom and grow.

Morgan Weaver isn’t happy. He’s in a job he hates, working for the family business. He spends little time outside the office, and he hasn’t composed or played music in years. Once a promising musician, Morgan walked away from what he loved to fulfill his father’s expectations.

On the other hand, James (Jamie) Shepherd continued making the music that he and Morgan loved and is now a famous musician. Once roommates, James and Morgan haven’t seen each other in over ten years. However, James remained friends with Morgan’s sister, Tristan, so when he finds out that Morgan is refusing to play at her wedding, he decides to confront the man who used to be his best friend.

Right from the start, Out of Sync captured my mind and heart. I found myself engrossed in Jamie and Morgan’s story, uncovering what happened that drove a wedge between them, and watching them rediscover their passion and love for both music and each other. With the time that has passed, both men have matured and hardened, providing a hurdle to overcome, yet allowing each to be more comfortable with himself and the sparks between them.

This story gave me all the feels. The author does an amazing job capturing the longing and heartache both men have felt over the years. When they finally come together, it is amazingly sexy and passionate. I ached for the pair as they navigated the bumpy road to happiness. And their journey is filled with detours and potholes, causing this reader to cry out in heartbreak. I love the emotion the author packs into the story, crashing into me from all sides.

Additionally, Ms. Greene creates fabulous settings with amazing details and clarity. One of my favorite examples is a scene early on, when James makes breakfast for Morgan. The descriptions were so spot on that I could see and smell the eggs cooking. It's these kind of touches that make the story come alive and more memorable.

In the end, I really loved reading Out of Sync. Jamie and Morgan’s story is touching, hot, sexy, and sweet, but at its core, it is a wonderful romance that swept me off my feet. Out of Sync hit all the right notes and left me satisfied.

This is a beautifully well-written story. I am a huge fan of Bronwyn Green’s work. She has a gift. The stories never disappoint. Her characters are emotionally charged and rich with detail. I find myself lost in the pages when I read her work. Out of Sync is an m/m story. Morgan and James reconnect in preparation for Morgan’s sister, Tristan’s wedding. The men have a past and parted ways years ago yet sparks sizzle between them instantly. I could hear their cellos playing as I read their story. The relationship unfolds and the romance is steamy hot with a nice dose of kink. Damn! It was hot. These men balanced each other and the ending was emotional yet perfect.

Out of Sync is the fifth book in the Bound series, authored by Bronwyn Green and Jessica Jarman. It could be read as alone but I love series. I like getting a little more of the characters I have already meet and fallen in love with, this story gives you all of that. If you enjoy romance, m/m and a touch of BDSM, this is definitely a must read for you.
