Leisel Bachmann left her Amish roots and beloved sisters to pursue a career in medicine without a second thought. She has an Englisch boyfriend, Nick Jordan, and dreams of a new life--but those dreams come crashing down when her sister Marie is diagnosed with cancer.

Soon nothing is going as she planned--not her state boards, not her first nursing job, and certainly not her relationship with Nick. As she becomes increasingly discouraged, her aunt shares the story of Leisel's grandfather during World War II and the struggle he faced between returning to Lancaster or being with the woman he loved.

Peace and a vision for the future are difficult to find, and when Nick leaves Pennsylvania for a completely new life, Leisel is faced with impossible choices. Will she stay in Lancaster, close to her family and the traditions of her past? Or learn from her grandfather's story and embrace a life of love and service in an uncertain future?

Leslie is restoring my delight in Amish fiction. I'll be honest with readers; I love Amish fiction and have been an avid reader for many years, but I was getting tired of the predictable plots. This book and series does not follow a predictable pattern and I like that. Thank you, Leslie, for making me want to read Amish fiction again.

I think dual timeline stories would be very difficult as an author to write. They not only have to get the reader interested in one story but two, then keep that interest throughout both stories and ultimately tie the two stories together in a believable way. But that's exactly what Leslie Gould has done in A Faithful Gathering. Two wonderfully written stories that connect in a very realistic way and with characters you'll find yourself cheering on.

I was hooked from the very beginning of this story. There's a lot going on in the story as far as Liesel. She's about to become a nurse and begin her life with boyfriend Nick, who is also a nurse. But things change when her sister fails to show up for her graduation and Nick makes a surprising revelation. Liesel has a lot to think about and a story her Aenti Suz tells about her grandpa Joe may put things back in perspective. Joe's story, which takes place during WWII, is very compelling, and I found myself just as interested in it as I was Liesel's story.

Leslie Gould is a master at dual timeline stories. Just when one character's story is at a pivotal point she switches to the other story and back and forth this goes throughout the book keeping me involved in both stories and making the book a quick read. Add to that her wonderful way of telling a story that makes me quit seeing words on a page but instead the images she is describing, well, it's no wonder she's one of my favorite authors. I'm pretty sure she could write a math textbook I would be interested in but then again, let's not get too crazy. : )

I definitely recommend this book to fans of Amish fiction or those who like a combination of contemporary and historical fiction. While this book is the third in the series it could easily be read as a standalone. I do recommend reading the other two books in the series though because they are just as wonderfully written as this one and you don't want to miss out on a Leslie Gould story!

I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher and was not required to write a review. All opinions are mine.

This is the third book in this series that I have enjoyed, again we back at the farm and with the Bachmann family.
This is mainly Liesel’s story, but really the sister’s and maybe Aunt Suz, as she tells some of the family history. Wow, we are in the present and so involved with what is going on, and then we become engrossed in Gus’s life, he is Suz’s brother and the girl’s father.
The saying that history repeats itself is prevalent in a way that makes them realize what is important and to grab what is being offered.
I didn’t want to leave, and have loved getting to know this family and how their community began and continuing.

I received this book through Net Galley and the Publisher Bethany House, and was not required to give a positive review.

Gould approaches the Amish a different way in this series of books. I like it that she wrote this series from each sister's view point. ( Of course A Faithful Gathering is the best! )
The dual timeline is awesome as well!! Auntie Suz is a wonderful storyteller!!
In a way, she reminds me of my grandfather and the way he told his stories of the 2nd world war. Except they changed with each telling lol! It didn't really matter to me because I enjoyed them and they made me laugh.
I feel like Liesel at times caught at a crossroads not knowing what I really want out of life. I do now though.
I liked how the author wrote with her heart and it is almost like it was her history that she was writing about .
I think that there is some great advice in this wonderful book. Like Gus said" Don't give into fear and don't let it control you" " Do what you were meant to do" "Trust!! A mighty big word in my opinion. Even I have trouble with that! I am just now learning how to forgive people including my dad. He was a sneaky stinker!!
Beathel was a character I didn't really like until there toward the end of the book. She's a perfect example of how fear can control one's life if you let it. That explains why she's so crotchety and mean. She is also a perfect example of how God can slowly change your heart and soul if you let him.
The title for this book is perfect!! I loved how family stuck together down through the years and I don't blame Liesel for not wanting to unequally yoked to a non believer. That has go to be very stressful. You can try and try and the more they will dig their heals in.
I can't imagine not having Jesus in my life. My whole world would definitely be dark without him.
Thank God he came to save us from our sins. For by Grace we are saved and God loved us enough to do just that!!
I admire the Amish for various reasons and I am glad I learned the truth about Jesus. The Ordnung
doesn't save you. Jesus does and it is a wonderful feeling!!
I received a copy from the publisher with no compensations received! All opinions are my own

This was a story close to my heart in several ways. The nursing aspect (my son is an RN), WWII (my father-in-law served in the military during that time), the cancer diagnosis (I was diagnosed with cancer seven years ago), the end of life Hospice care (I went through that with my mother) and the difference in beliefs within a family.
An unusual career choice for a woman brought up in the Amish faith, Leisel attends and graduates from nursing school. She feels God has called her into this profession. Not having joined the church yet she is not shunned but there is a strong resistance from her mother. She also meets Nick, who is already working as a nurse. They form a friendship and a bond as they work to achieve their dreams even though they are of different faiths and beliefs.
Leisel comes back home from the big city when she finds out that her sister has been diagnosed with cancer. As she begins helping her sister, her maiden aunt Suz begins telling her about her grandparents and their courtship and struggles. He was Amish and she was an army nurse. This was during WWII.
It was interesting to me reading this present day about Leisel and Nick and the past about the grandparents and how their struggles were similar in that their upbringings were so different. There is real community conflict when an Amish person turns to the English world. I shed a few tears and got choked up a time or two when reading of the struggles some of the characters faced.
My main takeaway was to pass on the stories of our families and their lives so that they live in the hearts of future generations.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher through the author but was not required to write a review positive or otherwise.

This final installment of The Sisters of Lancaster County is captivating! Leisel's entire future is toppled when unforeseen circumstances place her in a very vulnerable position. Her story continues in tandem with her aenti's revelations regarding her grandfather's experiences during World War II. Leisel's future becomes unclear as events surrounding her cause her to question her choices.

Characterizations are well portrayed throughout this thought provoking novel. The story moved at a fast pace, and with a high degree of diversity. This is unlike the usual mainstream Amish fiction. It goes beyond the traditional Amish community daily living experiences. I found it to be very refreshing as well as educational.

Relationships are strong points throughout this book. Family ties are important, although many times strained. Working through differences of opinion and belief systems are points of contention at times, but Leisel's faith is strengthened through adversity. I thoroughly enjoyed this book, and learned some interesting information regarding the ways that Amish men have participated in wartime activities.

Leisel Bachmann’s story was attractive from the first page till the end as readers was left wondering which life style she would choose—back to the Amish, totally English or joining the Mennonite. This dual time line kept the pages turning to see how the history of Leisel’s father during WWII would play out compared to her own life. Aunt Suz, Nick Jordan, sisters Jessica and Marie as secondary characters all played an important part in Leisel’s life. I admired how Leslie Gould brought Leisel to her own relationship with God despite her upbringing and the strong young woman she became by the end of the story. It’s sad to see this dual timeline Amish series come to an end. I enjoy the creativity of Gould with her Amish tales that are in the present but a story of a previous relative that the primary heroine/hero can relate to.

I was not required to write a review of this book, as I borrowed it from our inter-loan library service (I waited over two months after requesting it, as there were so many requests). I have simply expressed my own thoughts.

A Faithful Gathering ( The Sisters of Lancaster County - Book 3 )
By: Leslie Gould
A Faithful Gathering is book three in The sisters of Lancaster County Series. I love the story and the characters , both were well written and realistic. This is Leisel’s story. She is a very caring lady and puts others before herself. She is faces with some difficult choices to make. The story is like reading two stories in one. It deals with the past and the present . The story also deals with some subjects that goes against the Amish. How do they handle them?
I was given a complimentary copy of this book , bit was not told that I had to give a positive review. All opinions are my own.

This is my first time with this author.
I felt like the story started off slow with long chapters but, with each chapter it got better &better. There was a spin on the story that Gould went after and I really got into that.

I really liked this, it was one of the better Amish romances I’ve read and the best part of the series. I loved its nuances and complex characters. These books tend to be quite moralizing and very black-or-white, but this one had that extra dimension that made it believable.

A Faithful Gathering by Leslie Gould is the third and last book in The Sisters of Lancaster series and it just might be even better than the first two. It is another wonderfully inspirational book by one of my favorite authors of Amish stories. This particular series follows three Bachmann sisters and A Faithful Gathering tells Leisel's story. Leisel has pursued a nursing career and is suddenly drawn back to her family with a medical emergency. Because she steers clear of conflict, she has often given up dreams. Would she ever get them back? Will she have to give up her dream to become a nurse? What about the man that she loves? Will their relationship be derailed as well? The Bachman family that has been slightly fractured by the choices the individuals have made. Watching how God mends and strengthens these relationships is delightfully inspiring. I love the characters in Gould's stories. She portrays them realistically and the reader is easily drawn into their lives. I really liked Aenti Suz; she is practical and fearless and introduces Leisel to her grandfather's story which she never heard before. This second story embedded into Leisel's story takes the readers back to World War II and is just as compelling as Leisel's. The author does a marvelous job of stopping at just the right point in one story to pick up in the other. Strong themes of family and faith are woven throughout the book as the author portrays vibrant and realistic characters who deal with the nonresistant lifestyle of the Amish, learning what it means to care for those who are suffering and understanding the true meaning of grace, God's grace and love. Leisel has lived a life in fear that God would punish her at every turn. Is life really black and white? The author has expertly written a captivating story that will remind readers that God is in the hard times of our lives, molding us, making us stronger and we can trust Him to give us the desires of our hearts as we learn to delight in Him alone.
I received a complimentary copy of the book from the author. I was not required to write a review and the opinions are my own.

A FAITHFUL GATHERING, by Leslie Gould
Leisel Bachmann has her life all planned. She’s completed her nurse’s training with only the state boards still waiting for her. She and her English boyfriend, Nick, are dreaming of a happy future together.
Then, in seemingly no time at all, the pieces of Leisel’s plans lay scattered at her feet. If anything can possibly go wrong, it will. Her confidence is shattered, as are her dreams with Nick. As she struggles to get her bearings and make new plans, her aunt shares with her the story of Leisel’s grandfather’s experiences during World War II. At first Leisel is interested only in the account as a story, then she begins to see what her aunt is trying to tell her about the choices she faces.
A Faithful Gathering is a fascinating novel. I enjoyed both the contemporary sections and the World War II story. Medical details and military history added an enlightening layer to Leisel’s life.
Leslie Gould is a wonderful writer. I felt I was right there with the characters’ aspirations and struggles. I highly recommend this book!
A Faithful Gathering is Book Three in the Sisters of Lancaster County series, but it isn’t necessary to have read the earlier two books—although I recommend A Plain Leaving and A Simple Singing as well.
My thanks to the author and Bethany House for my review copy.

A Faithful Gathering is a compelling novel. While A Faithful Gathering can be read alone, I suggest you read the books in The Sisters of Lancaster County series in order. It will help you to understand the family dynamics. I thought A Faithful Gathering was well-written with relatable, yet complex characters and set in beautiful Lancaster County. We get Leisel’s story in A Faithful Gathering. She is on the cusp of fulfilling her dreams when her sister, Marie is diagnosed with cancer. When a series of events leave Leisel feeling discouraged and doubting her choices, her aunt shares the story of Leisel’s grandfather, Joe Bachmann. Joe’s draft number comes up in 1944 and, as a conscientious objector, enlisted in CPS (Civilian Public Service). It was interesting to learn about CPS plus AFS (American Field Service). I was not aware of these two divisions previously. The historical elements were beautifully incorporated into the story. I liked how the past and present flowed together. We see how fear comes in many different forms and it can hinder (even cripple) an individual. Prayer, faith and listening to God’s guidance are Christian elements in the story. We must pray to God for Him to lead us down the right path. If you have faith, you know God will provide. The Sisters of Lancaster County has a heartwarming ending. One of my favorite sayings in the book relates back to a woman who has one thing after another go wrong in her life and she believes God is punishing her. The phrase is “sometimes we’re tested, but that doesn’t mean we’ve done anything wrong”. We must remember that God will not give us more than we can handle. Leisel was being tested in A Faithful Gathering. It was nice to see Leisel develop as an individual and in her faith. A Faithful Gathering is clean, Christian novel with realistic characters and situations that will touch your heart.

This is an Amish story that deals with some sticky issues for the Amish like military service and medical service. Leisel was raised Amish but she has always been interested in being a nurse so she breaks away and becomes a nurse. She has an English boyfriend , Nick who is also a nurse. Leisel is still bound by her Amish beliefs even though she has no intention of joining the Amish church. When Nick decides to join the Air Force, Leisel cannot get her head around it because she does not believe in war.

The story goes back and forth between Leisel and the story of her grandfather, an Amish man who was an ambulance drive in France during WWII in a Civilian group that used conscientious objectors. Leisel’s Aunt tells her the story of her grandfather and also the story of the aunt’s fiancé who died in Viet Nam doing medical service as a conscientious objector.

The story is an examination of the main character’s beliefs and her final conclusion of what is God’s will for her life. The story is very well crafted and keeps you guessing till the end. It portrays some of the conflicts between the Plain world and the English world and how people on both sides choose to deal with the differences. I enjoyed this story and would recommend it to those who love Amish stories and also those who love WWII stories. I was given a Kindle edition of this book for the purpose of a review.

There’s much to love in this new book by Leslie Gould. The Bachmann family sisters were raised in a traditional Amish family, but all three have chosen different paths. This story focuses on Leisel. She’s left her Amish roots to become a registered nurse and is making marriage plans with her English boyfriend. Nothing goes quite as planned for Leisel, especially after her sister begins to undergo treatment for cancer. Leisel decides that she needs to return home to take care of her sister. A conflict comes between Leisel and her fiancé, and leaves Leisel feeling as if she does not belong in either the Amish or English worlds. Her Aunt Suz begins to share with Leisel the story of her Amish uncle as he served as an ambulance driver in World War II. As Leisel hears his story, she begins to view her own life from a very different point of view.

This is a “split time” romance that works very well. I loved the story of Joe and Martha’s romance in World War II. It was sweet and compelling and fit together perfectly with Leisel’s situation. It’s a good story of facing family expectations; honoring traditional roles; yet having the faith to follow the path that God has specifically chosen for you. The overriding theme is of God’s guidance in our lives, and the unusual ways He may lead us.

This is a sweet and clean book that incorporates the best of faith, hope, and love. I received a copy of this book from the publisher. All opinions are my own.

You don’t have to read the books in this series in order but I think you will enjoy it more to start at the beginning. I enjoyed Leisel’s story. The manner in which her grandfather Joe Bachmann’s story is woven in makes hers more interesting as she seems to be faced with some similar situations as he was. Notice I said similar situations, not identical. He lived during World War II and had passed on before she was born. It wasn’t until she set aside her dreams and plans to pursue a nursing career in order to come home to care for her sister who was battling cancer that she started spending time with her father’s maiden sister and began to learn about her grandfather. I believe the author reinforces the truth that we need to know where we came from in order to be able to face the future with greater confidence. The book takes some interesting twists and turns as the author brings together a few loose ends from the first two books in the series. Throughout much of the book, Leisel is quick to avoid confrontation, much to the consternation of those who love her and want the best for her. Will she get past that tendency? If she does, what does life hold in store for her? Will she ever figure out what she really wants in life and then go after it? I received a copy of this book from the author. This is my honest review. All opinions are strictly my own.

My Reflections:
This is the third and final book in the series labelled "The Sisters Of Lancaster County" Leslie Gould is a fantastic authour she always pens her books with interesting facts and an array of complex characters. You never find yourself wandering through the pages of her novels. T
his book is taken on slightly different than her others, The main character, Liesel is at a crossroads in her life she is in a very vulnerable position and must choose how the rest of her life will play out (as much as anyone can.) I enjoyed the dual storyline Aenti Suz is wise and a fantastic storyteller! Many life lessons and tidbits of wisdom can be gleaned at the knee of a wise elder. I adored how relationships were a center point to this story though true to life they bore strain and conflict, such strife is the way of bonding, faith building and strength in may hard-won relationships.
I found many interesting facts along the pages of this story many centring on the Amish lifestyle and how they conducted themselves in war times. I attend a Mennonite church and have heard some stories, but it was nice to delve a little deeper into what the men did during the war.
Al in all this is a fantastic read, and I would recommend it to anyone who loves a good Amish novel!

A Faithful Gathering is book 3 in the Sisters of Lancaster Series and my favorite. I loved the relationship all three sisters had with each other. I loved how supportive of the sisters were when one of them came down with cancer. It has been four years since the death of her father and when Liesel left home and the Amish way to go to nursing school. She fully embraced the English life and even had a very supportive English boyfriend. Her life is turned upside down when she returns home to care for Marie. I loved Aunt Suz, the storyteller in all three of the books and she had a story to tell Liesel which was the story of her father who was Liesel's grandfather. I enjoyed both stories and kept turning the pages to find out what happened. Would Liesel get frustrated and return to the plain life or would she continue her dreams as a nurse? What about Gus and his involvement with an army nurse? And what about the relationship the sisters had with their sour puss mother?I could not put this book down until I found the answers and I was satisfied with the ending.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from Bethany House Publishers through NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own. This book is due for release on February 5, 2019

A Faithful Gathering is the third fantastic book written by Leslie Gould in her series The Sisters of Lancaster County. This story has a lot going on in it and really keeps the readers interest. I really enjoyed the parts in which Aenti Suz tells Leisel the story of Joe. This made the story even more intense. I enjoyed all the characters in this story and thought that they told the story wonderfully.

I love Leisel and Nick but when their story fell apart I realized that not everything has a happy ending. I loved the faithful bond between the three sisters and how they all pitched in when a situation occurred. I understood the feelings of their Mamm but not the fact that she could treat them so coldly. This is what makes an incredible story come to life. The author has done a remarkable job with this story and series.

I was not given a complimentary copy of this outstanding book to read and review. I was not approached by anyone to post a favorable review. I have rated this book with five stars for meeting my expectations of a fabulous story that I can highly recommend to others.

Congratulations to Leslie Gould for writing this outstanding story for her readers to enjoy. I look forward to reading more amazing stories from this author in the future.

A Faithful Gathering is an Amish romance novel by author Leslie Gould. The ebook I reviewed was not the final text. Although this is book three of The Sisters of Lancaster County series it can act as a standalone. However, it is so good the reader will want to read all three books in the series.

I especially loved hearing the story about Joe Bachmann who was Leisel Bachmann’s grandfather. Because it made me think of my own grandparents.

I became devoted to the characters as they seemed very real. Nick, Leisel’s finace`, was eager to join the Air Force. As an Anabaptist Leisel did not agree with his joining the Air Force and was not sure she could marry him. Marie, Leisel’s sister, was hospitalized with cancer.

I almost forgot I was reading a story as I felt I was walking and listening along with each character. I hated to see this story end and I recommend it to fans of the Amish & Mennonites.

A Faithful Gathering by Leslie Gould is the third book in the Sisters of Lancaster County series. I was first introduced to dual-time novels in Leslie Gould's writing and have fallen in love with these books. I have greatly enjoyed reading this beautiful series.
Leisel Bachmann grew up in an Amish community, but decided that she wanted to pursue her love of helping people and becoming a nurse. After graduating from nursing school and before taking her boards, Leisel finds out that her sister was diagnosed with cancer. Her English boyfriend, Nick Jordan also shared with her that he was planning to join the military, which is against her Anabaptist beliefs. With these and many more challenges heading her way, she questions what her future holds. Could God be leading her back to her Amish roots?
You will definitely want to read A Faithful Gathering to find out the rest of Leisel's story and the encouragement she receives from her Aunt who shares Leisel's grandparents' story with her. This book and the entire series is one you will want to reread over and over again! A beautiful treasure!
I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book from the author and publisher and have given my honest opinion.

Not your typical Amish romance! I really appreciate the unique approach Leslie Gould has taken with this series. I read book one, loved it, skipped book two because I didn’t much care for the sister it featured but now that I’ve read the third book I definitely have to backtrack and read the second one. I should have trusted the author all along.

Tough subject matter, both past and present (this is a dual timeline story as we observe WWII through the eyes of Leisel’s grandfather) highlight the real struggles of finding peace in the midst of trauma and pain.

Leisel grew up in a less that ideal enviroment, left her Amish community to pursue her calling as a nurse and returns home to support her sister diagnosed with cancer. She’s caught between two worlds, which, sadly (for me) includes two fellas. So…a bit of a love triangle adds yet more angst to the mix.

Love the way her grandfather’s experiences being conscripted into the Civil Public Service during the war carry into Leisel’s present day. The timelines are woven seamlessly and make an emotional impact.

A stirring redemptive story of faith and hope.

I received a copy of this book from the author, I was not required to give a favorable review. This was the third in this series and also about the third daughter/sister. Leisel was the baby sister who decided to follow her dreams and become a nurse and had not joined the church yet. Her older sister Jessica was married and a mom and had joined the church, her sister Marie married a Mennonite and was a mom and very happy and now Leisel was was almost done with school and getting ready to take her boards. Her friend/boyfriend Nick was already working at the hospital as a nurse and was trying to figure out how he was going to payoff his loans and was thinking of joining the Air Force, but Leisel did not agree with that. Then Marie got sick with stomach cancer and Leisel went home to help take care of her, but in doing so but a lot of things into question. But she learned about the history of her grandparents and what they went through during WWII, this is a wonderful story of following both your heart and your faith. Thank you for another wonderful book Leslie.

I really loved Aenti Suz hands down she was my favorite character in the book. I would say this book is geared toward young adults. I would say the characters still had a lot of learning to do and the author used the situations through out the book mature them for sure. I really enjoyed the story of LT. Shaw and Joe, when the story would move away from them the author had away of keeping your attention and leave you wanting more to find out what was going to happen next.
While I did find Leisel a little immature some times I also found that what she was facing was forcing her to grow up and evaluate her life and her choice. This book is from a first person point of view Over all this book is a good clean read and suitable for all ages. I received an advance copy from the publisher via NetGalley. Why have I never read this author before? This is the third book in The Sisters Of Lancaster Series, but I had no problem reading it as a stand-alone. I just want to read the previous books as this was so good. I loved the way she tackled an Amish woman whose love for medicine caused her to leave to pursue a nursing career and how it is tied together with her grandfather. Aunt Suz is a delight and her masterful storytelling as she recounts her fathers story is what keeps you staying up all night to finish. This author handled time slip with precision like a fine choreographed dance. Definitely should add this to your must read list.
I won a copy of this book. The honest review and opinions are my own and were not required.

What sets author Leslie Gould apart for me is that she consistently digs below surface issues of the Amish and presents their reality--a lifestyle complicated by the many choices set before them. Will they remain with their more conservative brethren the Amish or will they worship with the Mennonites? Or, will they enter into the lifestyle of the Englishers with whom they work? As is true of her sisters, Liesel Bachmann is an interesting character with unique hopes and desires which sometimes conflict with her upbringing and heritage. Yet, over time, she figures out what is really important to her and follows her dreams. Gould makes the story all the more interesting by introducing Liesel's grandfather (via a time slip) from whom Liesel learns valuable life lessons.

Leslie Gould finishes her Sisters of Lancaster County series with another enjoyable story in A Faithful Gathering.

As in the previous books, the story highlights one of the Bachmann sisters but also involves details of other family members. The present-day decisions that must be made are impacted by the ongoing story of Bachmann relatives from generations past. The lives of characters from both time periods provide an engaging story filled with complex details.

I highly recommend this book, as well as the entire series, to fans of great Amish fiction. The story could work as a stand alone but is more enjoyably read as a series conclusion

Thanks to the author and her publisher for providing a copy of A Faithful Gathering. I am happy to share my own thoughts in this review.

A Faithful Gathering tells the story of Liesel, the third Bachmann sister. Ms. Gould did a good job tying the whole series together in this book. With Liesel’s story, we see how each sister views the others and observe their interactions. This book completes Mamm’s story as well as Aenti Suz’s. The time slip element adds important depth to the story, as does Suz and Liesel’s experiences volunteering and serving for emergency relief. I’m not sure it matters in which order one reads these books, but readers will definitely want to read all three to enjoy the story of the Bachmann sisters.

I received this book from the publisher but all opinions are my own.

This may be one of Leslie Gould’s best yet. The story flows naturally, not feeling contrived like some Amish novels seem. This one deals with “real” characters who experience genuine struggles in authentic ways. Leisel, an ex-Amish nurse-in-training second-guesses her decision to leave her family and whether her boyfriend is the right man for her. I was quickly caught up in the tale and emotionally invested in the outcome. The novel tugs at the heart as it deals with losses and love. It’s a time-slip story, with Leisel’s grandfather’s World War II experiences shared by her aunt. The parallel tales fit well together. I received a copy from the publisher. All opinions are my own.

In this third book of The Sister’s of Lancaster County we again find a mix of Amish and Military. Gould does an excellent job of writing both into her stories.

Leisel left her Amish home to pursue a nursing career. She didn’t leave her Amish faith however. While waiting to take her state boards, Leisel receives news that her sister Marie has cancer. Family is everything to her so she packs up her study material and goes back home to help with Marie’s care.

Leisel’s English boyfriend, Nick, had mentioned to her the idea of joining the military to pay off his student loans. Of course, having been raised Amish, she wasn’t happy with that idea and wouldn’t really discuss it with him.

When she finds out Nick enlisted, she broke up with him even though it broke her heart. She just couldn’t be with someone in the military. Whenever there was time, her Aunt told Leisel stories about her grandparents. Her grandfather was an Amish man who drove ambulances during the war. Her grandmother was an army nurse. How did they work things out? Did he leave his family and community? Did she become Amish? Does their story help Leisel?

Pick up a copy of this book and read Leisel’s story. You’ll thoroughly enjoy it!
